Restoring win 10 on a laptop. The easiest way to recover. How to return the operating environment to its original settings

Exist different ways combating errors and malfunctions in the system. But if the damage operating system are too serious, a rollback may be the only correct solution to the problem.

Preparing to downgrade Windows 10

Before returning to previous version Windows, you should perform a number of preparatory steps. They are required specifically when rolling back to an older version of Windows; when returning to a restore point, these actions will not be relevant. It is worth taking care of the following points:

  • provide stable connection with the Internet - in some cases, files during rollback must be downloaded from the network. This means that without a constant and stable Internet connection, you will not be able to roll back Windows to a previous version. However, if you perform all actions using a system image or files remaining after installation, then an Internet connection will not be required;
  • prepare drivers before rolling back - if new versions of Windows are able to download hardware drivers on their own from the Internet, then more old version you will have to do this manually. Of course, you can download most of the drivers after installation, but without the driver network card you will not be able to access the Internet. This means that you should download it in advance and save it to a portable drive;
  • make sure that the device's power supply is stable - if we are talking about a laptop, be sure to connect it to a power outlet during installation. If the battery dies during a rollback, a number of problems may arise;
  • save valuable files- despite the fact that the rollback is performed without formatting the system, there is a risk of losing files if problems occur. It's better to play it safe and save your most valuable data to a flash drive. In addition, please note that you will have to reinstall all games and programs if the version of Windows changes.

When you're done with everyone preparatory actions, you can proceed directly to a system rollback.

Downgrade Windows 10 to an earlier version of Windows

Return to the previous system from Microsoft relevant if you installed a build curve or you just didn’t like Windows 10. Within thirty days after installing the system, you can perform a rollback. It’s worth clarifying here that if you installed Windows 10 over Windows 7, then you will return to it. The same is true for Windows 8. That is, when you roll back, you will not be able to directly select which version of the operating system you want to return to. Do the following:

Files for restoring the previous operating system are stored for no more than a month. After that current function will be unavailable.

Rollback Windows 10 after a month

The monthly limit is given for a reason. This is how long files from the previous version of Windows are stored on the hard drive. After this period, the only way to roll back to previous Windows will reinstall Windows using the installation ISO image. However there is little trick, which allows you to extend a given period and roll back after a month.

Increasing the possible time limit for rolling back Windows

If you are not sure that you will be able to make the decision to roll back within a month, or you just want to play it safe and leave the possibility of returning for the future, it is worth taking some measures in advance. All actions must be completed before the thirty day period expires. First you need to change the file display settings:

After these manipulations, folders with old Windows data will become visible:

  • $Windows.~BT;
  • $Windows.~WS;
  • Windows.old.

These folders are located in the root of the system Windows disk. You need to hide them from the system: to do this, just change their name in any way convenient for you. Due to the name change, the system will not be able to detect this data and it will not be deleted after the thirty day period. In the future, if necessary, simply return the standard names and rollback.

Rollback Windows 10 using bootable media

To roll back Windows after thirty days you will need:

  • image of Windows 7 or Windows 8, respectively. You can download it from any site convenient for you, but make sure that it is a clean image and not a modified one. It is not recommended to use versions of Windows that have been subject to changes by users, if only because of their unreliability;
  • activation key. It is not necessary to complete the rollback, but sooner or later you will need it to full use systems;
  • the drive itself - a flash drive or DVD - for recording an image before installation;
  • program for creating a bootable drive - for the purposes of this article we will use Rufus program, since it is very easy to use and requires virtually no user intervention.

We'll look at the installation process using the example of going back to Windows 7. Once you've got everything ready, do the following:

  1. Insert the flash drive into your computer and run the program.
  2. Select your drive in the first line of the program.

    Select the drive where you want to burn the operating system

  3. Find the line “Create a boot disk” and check the box there. After that, click on the picture next to it and select the operating system image.

    Click on the disk image and select the operating system image

  4. Set the partition recording scheme to GPT.

    Select GPT as partition scheme

  5. Burn the image to the USB flash drive. Then close Rufus and restart your computer.
  6. During the reboot, you need to open the Boot Menu to select the drive. A button will appear on the screen to help you do this. Usually this is the F11 or F12 button.
  7. In the Boot Menu, select your drive to begin installation from it.

    In the Boot Menu, specify the drive on which you burned the Windows image

  8. Select your system language and keyboard layout at the beginning of the installation process. Enter the required information or leave the default ones. Click Next.

    Enter your operating system information and click “Next”

  9. On the next screen, simply click on the “Install” button.

    Click on the “Install” button

  10. In the next window, select the installation type. Click on "Update" because you need to replace the operating system and not format the drive. If you select the “Full” installation, you are guaranteed to lose all your data, be careful.

    Select "Update" to replace your operating system

  11. Select the disk partition for Windows installations. The main thing is that it has about twenty gigabytes of free space. You won’t need as much for installation, but it’s better to always leave a reserve for correct operation systems.

    Select a disk partition that has enough space to install Windows

  12. Wait for Windows 7 to finish installing instead of your current operating system.

    Wait for the installation to finish

  13. After installation is complete, follow these steps: important settings. Enter a username and, optionally, a password for your account.

    Create an account to use your computer

  14. Then enter your operating system key. Or you can click “Skip” and activate later.

    Enter key Windows activation, if you have one, or click "Skip"

  15. Check the time data and current date.

    Enter your time zone, current date and time

  16. Complete system setup. The system rollback has been successfully completed.

    If you see the desktop, the rollback to an older operating system was successful

Rollback Windows 10 using Command Prompt

Windows 10 Command Prompt won't let you go back to a previous version of the operating system, but it can help you restore your current version by rolling back the state certain files to their original value. To do this you will also need to write down boot disk with the exact version of Windows 10 that is installed on your computer. Refer to the instructions in the previous section if you have problems with this step. Then do the following:

To restore, simply enter one or more of the following commands:

  • fixboot - will perform repairs boot utility Windows;
  • bootcfg /rebuild - will restore a damaged operating system boot file;
  • cd repair copy SYSTEM C:\windows\system32\config - will repair the settings of your operating system and return them to the default value;
  • copy J:\i386\ntldr C:\ - will restore correct reading necessary for work Windows files. Moreover, in this team, instead of letter designation J should be the letter of your CD/DVD-ROM itself, and instead of the letter C - the system drive.

After this, your computer should at least turn on and load the operating system. But if you want to fix other problems, you should do full scan system for errors:

Wait until the files are scanned. To replace damaged or missing data, you must also have a boot disk inserted for your current operating system.

This method will restore the functionality of all key services by rolling them back to their initial value.

Rollback Windows 10 using restore points

A restore point is created by the user if necessary, usually before installation important programs. Such “points” are necessary to quickly return the system state to its original form. Roughly speaking, during the process of their creation, all files important for the operation of the system are copied. That's why current point recovery, on the one hand, will help you fix damaged files or lost settings, and on the other hand, it will allow you not to roll back too far, once again risking losing data.

Before using or adding new recovery points, you must make sure that correct setting this opportunity. For this:

  1. Press combination Win keys+ X and select Control Panel.

    Press the Win + X key combination and select “Control Panel”

  2. Find the “System” item and open it with a mouse click.

    Open the "System" section in the "Control Panel"

  3. And then go to the additional system parameters section by clicking on the corresponding button.

    Open advanced system settings on the left side of the window

  4. In this window, go to the “System Protection” tab and select your system disk. Then open its settings.

    Select your system drive and click the “Configure” button

  5. Make sure the “Enable system protection” checkbox is checked, and then specify how much space on your drive is allocated for protection. The space you choose determines exactly how many recovery points you will store and, as a result, how far you can go back using this service.

    Set the switch to the “Enable system protection” position and set the required disk space

  6. Accept the changes.

Adding new restore points

Before you make any major changes to your computer, you should create a new restore point. This is done as follows:

Rollback to a restore point

There are several ways to return to a restore point.

Through "System Restore"

The "System Restore" utility is located in the "Recovery" section of the "Control Panel":

  1. Run the System Restore utility.

    Open the "Recovery" section in the "Control Panel"

  2. The program will prompt you to roll back one step to the nearest created restore point. Either leave the setting at this point and use it, or put a checkmark on the line “Select another restore point.” Click Next.
  3. Click the Search for Affected Programs button to see what changes you have made since creating this point. Be sure to review them to ensure that nothing important is deleted.

    You can choose the optimal point by studying the time of its creation and the programs it concerns

  4. Reset your computer. If this helped you solve your problem, then nothing more is needed. If the system still fails, then you should select an earlier one as a recovery point.

Through a special menu

Another option is to perform a system rollback through a special menu. To do this, do the following:

  1. Maximize the window Windows notifications 10 in the lower right corner of the screen.
  2. Open your operating system settings.

    Open "All Settings" Windows in the "Notification Panel"

  3. In Windows Settings, go to Update & Security

  4. Open the Recovery tab and select Special options downloads".

    Find "Custom boot options" and select the option to restart your computer

  5. Enter OS Diagnostics and select System Restore.

    Select System Restore as the reboot method

  6. Select from which point the rollback should be performed.

Via "Command Line"

The last option for rolling back to a restore point involves using command line. The advantage of this method is that in case of serious problems with the computer, you can use it before the system boots:

Returning Windows 10 to its original state

To get a clean system, you previously had to completely reinstall it and format the disk. But in Windows 10 it is possible to return the system to its original form by rolling back all changes after installing the system itself. All installed programs and the games will need to be reinstalled.

To reset the system, follow these steps:

  1. Open Windows settings via the Start menu or Notification panel.
  2. Go to the "Update and Security" section.

    To reset Windows to original state Click "Start" in the "Recovery" tab

  3. In the action selection window, indicate whether, when you roll back the system to its original state, you also need to delete all files and data. If you select “Remove everything,” then after the reset you will only have the installed operating system.

    Specify whether files should be retained during reset

  4. In the last window of the program, you need to familiarize yourself with the specified data and click on the “Reset” button.

    Review the information and click "Reset" if you are satisfied with the settings

  5. Wait for the process to complete and Windows return 10 to the original state will be completed.

Programs for rolling back Windows 10

Sometimes it is worth using programs to roll back Windows 10 to previous versions, since, for example, there is an annoying bug in which, even if the thirty-day period has not expired, the rollback to previous version button does not work.

Rollback Utility

This program will allow you to easily use the files of the old system on your hard drive to perform a rollback. It is very simple to use, but it is distributed as an image and requires writing to boot drive for correct operation. This article has already indicated how to do this.

The rollback process in the Rollback Utility program occurs without user intervention

The main advantages of this program:

  • the rollback process is very simple - the program itself determines the versions of Windows to which a rollback is possible;
  • accessibility - the program is distributed on the official website for free;
  • saving files - when rolling back, the program saves the files of your current OS. This means that in case of failure, you can always return everything as it was.

Windows Repair

The difference between this program is that it will not help you return to your previous operating system, but it will solve many other problems. It allows:

  • reset your operating system to its original form;
  • roll back registry edits and other changes to system files;
  • fix various errors;
  • restore the system.

The program has paid version, but the free options will be enough to perform a system restore. As a result, this is an excellent solution for both experienced users, and for beginners.

With Windows Repair you can restore every element of your computer

Errors during system rollback and ways to fix them

If the ability to restore the system has failed, the buttons are not active, or the rollback process simply does not work, using safe mode will help. For this:

Safe mode loads only the services necessary to repair your computer. He's not suitable for full-fledged work devices.

System rollback hangs

If the system rollback freezes during the process, try the following options:

  • select an earlier recovery point - this will be helpful if the error already existed at the time you created the rollback point or if the recovery point is damaged;
  • try to rollback through safe mode;
  • reset the system to initial settings, if “softer” rollback methods do not work;
  • Reinstall the system if a reset is not possible.

If the problem is damage to system files, you should scan the system via the Command Line. To do this, enter the command “sfc /scannow”.

Another option is to restore the system from the boot drive:

How to return to Windows 10 after a downgrade

If you downgraded Windows 10 and later regretted it, you don't have many options. If a rollback has been made systematic methods, then you should reinstall Windows 10. To do this, you will need to use the utility from the official Microsoft website.

If you performed a rollback from using Windows 10 Rollback, then the files of your operating system have been saved, and you can return to it through the same program. To do this, after recording the program to the drive, do the following:

Restoring the system, as well as rolling it back, allows you to fix certain problems. And if you create restore points in time and know how to use all the necessary capabilities to restore system files, then any Windows problems 10 will not be afraid of you.

Having problems with Windows 10 and can't fix them? Damaged system files and traditional sfc team/scannow doesn't work? See how to use the DISM feature to fix corrupted system files or restore them from the original system image without reinstallation Windows 10

As a rule, in case of problems with system files, use SFC utility, which scans HDD for errors and corrects them. But still, this first aid remedy does not always bring the desired results. Another DISM utility is available in the system, which we briefly mentioned in previous articles, which can fix problems with damaged files in Windows 10. This time we will look at the full range of DISM functions, describe various use cases and show how to use it to restore damaged system files from the original system image (component storage).

This feature is designed to patch and prepare WIndows images such as OS boot disk, system recovery tools, etc. These images can be used to reinstall or restore the system in case of problems. When using the SFC utility to scan and repair a disk, problems with damaged files can only be resolved using the appropriate image from the component store on the hard drive. When this image is damaged, the system cannot retrieve system files from the component store and therefore cannot restore them using the SFC function. It is in this case that the DISM utility will help us, which will solve the problem with recovery images and allow the SFC function to complete its work correctly.

How to use DISM utility?

Restoring system files using the utility is not difficult. With this application you can restore components using the same principle as using SFC via the command line. To open the command line, press the combination Windows keys+ X and in the menu that appears, select “command line (administrator). Then in the console you need to enter the DISM command with the appropriate parameters.

We can add additional parameters to the DISM command, with which you can check, scan and restore images different ways. Let's look at the most important combinations.

DISM with CheckHealth parameter

In the command line console, enter next command:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Using this option, you can quickly check the image and individual components system installations that are stored on disk for damage. This command does not make any changes - it is completely safe. CheckHealth provides information about the status of the operating system package. This is very useful option when we want to safe way check if any system file corruption has occurred in the component store.

DISM with ScanHealth option

This option works similar to CheckHealth, but takes a little longer due to a more thorough scan, but also does not fix anything. It is worth using when the previous /CheckHealth option indicated that everything is fine, but we want to make sure that this is definitely the case. Enter:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

The scan may take much longer than with the previous option (approximately 10 minutes). If the scan stops at 20% or 40%, you will need to wait - it may seem like your computer is frozen - but it is actually scanning.

DISM with RestoreHealth option

If the first and second commands unloaded a message that the images were damaged, it is time to restore them. For this purpose, we use the /RestoreHealth parameter. Enter the following command in the command prompt console:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

The option uses Windows Update to repair damaged files in the Component Store. Scanning procedure and automatic recovery may take approximately 20 minutes (sometimes longer). DISM detects a failure, creates a list of damaged files, and then downloads them from Microsoft servers using Windows Update.

How to restore files from a specified source using the RestoreHealth option

Sometimes it happens that damage to the operating system is much wider and affects the service Windows updates. In this case, the RestoreHealth parameter will not be able to repair damage to the image because the system cannot connect to Microsoft servers. In this situation, you should perform another operation - specify the path to the Windows installer, from which “working” files will be downloaded without using the Internet and the update center.

To do this, you need the Windows 10 installer on a DVD, flash drive, or ISO image format. The latter can be downloaded via Media application Creation Tool for Windows 10.

Download the version for Windows 10 (32 or 64 bit), run the application and follow the wizard to download the ISO to your computer. After the image is downloaded and saved, go to the Explorer window and double-click on ISO file with the installer to install it. In the This PC window, check which letter was assigned to the mounted image (for example, the letter "E").

If you have a bootable DVD or USB drive With Windows installation 10, then you don’t need to download anything - just insert the disk or connect external media, and see what drive letter was assigned to this drive in the “This PC” section.

After the drive with the Windows installation is detected by the system and we know the letter, it is time to use the appropriate DISM parameter, which will indicate the path to this media. To do this, enter the following command:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:E:\Sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

Please note again that if in our case, a DVD, flash drive or ISO image If a different letter is assigned than “E”, then change it in the above command. After pressing Enter damaged files component stores will be restored from the original Windows installer along the specified path.

Fixing errors in Windows

Once you have completed all the above steps, you now need to use the SFC utility again to fix errors in the system from the recovered Windows images. Type in the command prompt window:

sfc /scannow

Sometimes it may be necessary to scan the system three times to completely eliminate all errors. SFC now has access to restored images in the component store and can completely restore damaged system files.

Windows 10 has proven itself to be a very reliable and proven system. But even carefully designed software is not immune to the unsuitability of some applications, file corruption and other unpleasant moments.

In such cases, you may need to roll back the system to a time when it worked properly. This can be achieved using the built-in recovery feature in Windows 10. We'll show you how to reset your settings correctly and get your computer back up and running quickly.

When using any system recovery or repair method, it is always very important to first back up your data. This can be done using free tools, which are included in Windows package, cloud storage or third party software.

While you are using your computer, Windows periodically writes brief description system (applications, data and the OS itself), which is stored on the hard drive.

Then, when faced with problematic situation, system restore will allow you to return to previous state, so eventually the data will be saved.

The good thing about this process is that all documents, images, etc. will remain unchanged, while all applications you installed after the rollback will be deleted. When things go wrong, this is the sure way out of a difficult situation.

Important! One drawback, although quite an important one, is that you probably never turned on the save feature. Do this first, because otherwise the system will not be able to perform a restore, since it will not have saved versions.

To prevent this from happening in the future:

At least if you run into problems in the future, you'll be covered.

How to restore your system using the Settings menu

This is the simplest way:

How to restore your system using startup options

An alternative way is to start the process by restarting your computer. So you need to open:

Windows 10 will complete the process, reboot and start working fine.

Note! This method should resolve any issues you're having with your PC, but if they persist, you may want to completely format your drive and start again.

Return working copy of Windows 10 using this method is not as easy as it seems. If something wrong happens to the system and other options do not work, then this is perhaps the only way. The above solutions are only suitable if the device starts without errors and generally works normally. Sometimes the problem is so serious that the computer is not even able to start, which means you will not be able to start Windows recovery.

All you can do is start the system in safe mode. This will give you access to the command line, which will help you restore previous copy using simple commands.

Let's figure out how to return working condition system using the command line.

Step 1. Start your computer and hold F8 until the advanced menu appears Windows options. Some laptop models (such as Lenovo) require you to hold down the Fn key.

Step 2. Select "Safe Mode using Command Prompt" and then press Enter.

Note! If your computer boots without problems, press Win + R and type cmd in the Run box.

Step 3. If necessary, log in using account administrator. Once the command prompt appears, type the command rstrui.exe and then press Enter.

Note! This command is slightly different depending on the system version.

Step 4. Next, the Windows Recovery Wizard will open. Use the recommended backup or choose one yourself, then click Next. Follow the instructions below to complete the recovery.

However, this method is suitable for advanced users, as beginners may find it difficult. Sometimes you receive an error message: "Windows cannot find a system image on this computer." It's better to take advantage

Video - How to run System Restore on Windows 10

Hello.

Folk wisdom: There are two types of people - those who do not yet make backups, and there are those who already do them.

Needless to say, a backup created on time can save a lot of nerves, time and data. In general, Windows 10 (as far as I have become familiar with it) is a fairly “stable” system, at least in comparison with Windows XP, and it is much more difficult to “kill” it with your incompetent actions. But still...

In this article I want to dwell on the most common questions regarding Windows recovery, creating checkpoints and other issues. The article will be useful for those who are simply thinking about what to do if Windows “flies” tomorrow, and for those for whom something has stopped working (errors and crashes have begun to appear), and for those who no longer boot Windows and he wants to get his computer working again. So, I will consider all the questions in order.

How to set up the creation of system restore points

Important note: I don’t know why, but in Windows 10, by default, the function of automatically creating checkpoints (to which you can rollback Windows) is disabled! Therefore, I think that the first step in an article of this kind is to show how to enable this function. What's strange is that before this, in Windows 7, 8 - this function was always on!

Actions in order

1) First we open panel Windows management , go to the section " System and safety", then open the “System” section (see screenshot below).

System and Security / Windows 10

3) After, you need to select the system drive (on which Windows is installed - it is marked with an icon) - usually this is " local disk C:\(system)", and click the "Configure" button.

  1. switch the slider position to " Enable system protection";
  2. move the slider to the right - we determine the place, which will be allocated for recovery points;
  3. save the settings (clearly shown in the photo below).

Now system protection is enabled, from time to time Windows will do backups. By the way, the more space you allocate on your hard drive for backup copies, the more more points you will have. As soon as the space is used up - each new point will overwrite the old one...

Creating a checkpoint manually

By the way, immediately after enabling automatic creation of points, I recommend creating a point manually (especially if everything is working as it should for you so far :)).

To do this, click the "Create" button, the tab is still the same "" (by the way, this button has become active (previously it was impossible to click on it)).

Creating a restore point

After which, Windows will “think” for a minute or two, and a checkpoint will be created (by the way, Windows will notify you about this in a separate window). Actually, that’s all for the sim about “manual” work...

Note! I recommend creating a restore point manually whenever you are going to change drivers (for example), or perform any actions with the system registry.

Running recovery from Windows

How to open the recovery window (option 1)

Open the Windows Control Panel at the following address: Control Panel\System and Security\System

Then in the window that opens, click the "Restore" button (shown in the screenshot below).

After which, the "" window should appear. Windows will warn you that this operation will not affect your documents, but drivers and programs installed before creating a restore point will be deleted. Click next...

Afterwards a window with recovery points will appear. Now you need to select the desired point and click next.

Selecting a restore point

By default, Windows selects the most recent (i.e. most recent) point and prompts you to agree and click next. The last point is not always the solution to the problem. You need to select the point at which Windows was running for you normal mode. You can navigate by the date the point was created and its description.

Note:

  1. some points may be marked as "critical". There is nothing wrong with this; usually, they are created during a system update;
  2. If you select a specific point and click the "Search for affected programs" button, you can find out which programs will be changed when you roll back the system. For example, you will find out which programs will not work after a rollback - i.e. they will have to be reinstalled.

The last step is to agree and confirm to roll back the system to the previously created restore point. The computer will then restart and the changes will take effect.

System Restore: Confirm Rollback

Second way to open the recovery window

There is another faster and easier way to open the recovery window in Windows 10. To do this:

  1. open the search window (the “magnifying glass” icon is located next to the START button);
  2. enter the word “recovery” into the search bar (most likely, you won’t have to enter the entire word);
  3. Among the results found, open the one you need (each step is illustrated in the screenshot below).

How to roll back Windows 10 to a restore point if your computer won't boot

It’s good when Windows at least boots and you can normally open the control panel, the security section and enable the rollback function. And when does it not load? In this case you need installation DVD disk or flash drive. In my article I will focus on the second :). So, first things first...

Preparing and creating a bootable USB flash drive (if you don’t have one)

In general, I advise more than once, but it is better to use the flash drive with which you installed Windows - do nothing, save it and have it in reserve. Such a flash drive will help you out more than once. If your Windows won't boot and you don't have such a flash drive, you'll have to ask a friend or neighbor for help (if you don't have a second PC/laptop).

Remark! In order not to repeat myself (especially since the topic is extensive), I recommend that you read the following article on my website:. The article provides all sorts of options creation bootable flash drives: Windows Xp/7/8/10, UEFI, multiboot, etc.

BIOS settings. Selecting boot media (i.e. “our” flash drive)

To boot from installation flash drive with Windows - you need to configure the BIOS accordingly. In general, there is nothing complicated about BIOS setup(in terms of changing the loading order) - no. Rather, the problem often lies in an incorrectly written bootable media.

In general, in my opinion, it is much more convenient to use a special boot menu - Boot Menu (English title). It can be called up when you turn on your computer/laptop. The point is that in this menu you can select the device from which to boot the computer (without going into the BIOS at all!).

Each manufacturer has its own hotkeys for entering the Boot Menu, for example, Acer laptops have F12, Samsung laptops have Esc. Press them immediately after turning on the computer/laptop. After this, usually a special menu appears in which we must select our media (an example is shown below). An expanded list of manufacturers is also available at the link below.

Hotkeys (buttons): boot BIOS menu, Boot Menu, Boot Agent, BIOS Setup. Laptops and computers -

System rollback using a restore point

If the flash drive is written correctly, the Bios is configured correctly, then the Windows installation should start. Please note that on the screen on which you will be asked to install the OS, there is a link “” at the bottom of the window, and you need to click it (see screenshot below, note: green arrow).

In additional parameters - select the very first tab " System Restore (system restore using a restore point)" (see screenshot below).

Then it should open standard window with a proposal to roll back the system to a previously created point.

Recovery of boot records

By the way, it is not always necessary to look for a backup point and roll back the computer to it. When Windows stops loading (suddenly, for no reason at all), it is most often due to damaged boot records.

To restore them, just go to the " Extra options " (cm. previous step articles) select the tab not “”, but “” (see screenshot below: green arrow under number 2).

Windows itself will automatically diagnose and try to restore functionality.

Addition. Even in cases where the OS tells you that an attempt to restore boot records failed - try rebooting the computer, more than once in my “practice” (despite this error), after a similar procedure, Windows loaded successfully.

Creating a full system image

Windows 10 has one good backup option - creating an image of the entire system on separate disk or DVD discs(you will need several pieces, in my opinion it is better to use external hard disk, or a second disk - if you have 2+ of them in the system).

The difference between this method and classic restore points is that this method creates a complete archive with all programs, drivers, user files, settings, shortcuts, etc. that are on the system.

Note. It makes sense to create such an image when you have everything set up and everything works well. Typically, this time comes after 2-3 days after installing Windows.

Creating an image

1) First open control Panel, then section " system and safety", then " Backup and recovery" (an example is shown in the screenshot below).

3) Now you need to specify the media on which the image will be saved. Usually, they choose an external hard drive (or a “large” flash drive of 64 GB, 128 GB, for example).

4) Here you need to indicate which disks you want to archive. Windows, by default, includes the drive on which it is installed and several system partitions. If this is not enough for you, you can include other local drives.

Note. Pay attention to the space that will be needed for archiving. Windows will show you free place on your media and the required archiving location. When choosing a few more local disks- the required space for archiving will increase in proportion to the selected disks.

Using an image. When you start having “problems” with Windows 10, you can quickly and easily roll it back completely to its previous state using this image. To start recovery from such an image, there are 2 ways:

  1. - use a recovery disk;
  2. - in the Windows setup program, select: Diagnostics/Advanced options/System image recovery.

Addition. By the way, make a complete hard cloning disk can be used with third-party programs (many of them, frankly speaking, have much more options and are more convenient to use than regular means Windows). For example, such programs are: Acronis True Image, EASEUS Disk Copy, Paragon Drive Backup Personal, etc.

We fix the functionality + clean Windows from viruses using AVZ

It's no secret that problems with Windows are often caused by viruses and adware. Often for this reason, many users want to restore their Windows OS. If you start to have advertising banners on the desktop, on sites (where they did not exist before), the browser constantly opens tabs (which you did not ask it to open) - most likely you have picked up adware (this “infection” is very popular now).

To get rid of all this “good” and restore the computer’s functionality, I recommend using the utility - AVZ.

AVZ

One of the best antivirus utilities, no installation required. Works with all popular Windows versions: XP, 7, 8, 10. Main tasks solved in it:

  • - SpyWare removal and AdWare inserts, modules (more relevant than ever - advertisements and other goodies constantly pop up in browsers);
  • - search and elimination of Dialer (Trojan.Dialer);
  • - neutralization of Trojan programs;
  • - closing holes (BackDoor);
  • - removal of network and mail worms;
  • - neutralization: TrojanSpy, TrojanDownloader, TrojanDropper, etc.

In addition to neutralizing viruses, this program can restore system settings, close some "holes" by setting optimal parameters. Let's get down to business :).

1) Virus check

This is the first place to start working with AVZ. Even if you have an antivirus installed, you can still run it computer AVZ will not be superfluous. The fact is that this antivirus utility “sees” and finds a lot of “good” that ordinary antiviruses miss.

To scan your computer for viruses, run AVZ, select the drives (be sure to select the system drive) and click the START button. Fortunately, scanning is quite fast (relatively third party programs of a similar kind).

The second thing I recommend is to set the optimal settings (it’s no secret that not all default settings in Windows provide the optimal level of security). So, AVZ finds such problematic settings and offers you to fix them (the program fixes them itself automatically).

To run such a wizard: go to the "File" menu and select "".

Quite often, “problems” with Windows also occur due to the fact that viruses and adware change some system files, edit files, and introduce “malicious” lines into them. Because of this, for example, you see ads in your browser, even on sites where they shouldn’t be!

You can also restore many system settings in AVZ if you go to: " File/System Restore". The program will offer a whole list of various options for recovery (all options are shown in the screenshot below).

Note. If you unknowingly check all the boxes and click restore, then nothing criminal will happen, just the system settings will return to their original form, as if you had just installed Windows.

I'll wrap this up, have a good and quick fix of Windows!

The procedure for restoring a Windows 10 system is quite simple. There are several alternative ways which will be discussed in the article. You can perform recovery in the following ways:

  • System rollback to a checkpoint;
  • Restoring the OS using an image or distribution on external media.

Rollback points

The option to roll back the system using restore points is designed to solve problems associated with failures when installing programs, updating drivers, making changes to registry settings, etc.

Rollback mode allows the user to return the registry, system files and other settings to one of the checkpoints created automatically by Windows or manually by the owner.

Comment. When the system is rolled back to a checkpoint, the user's documents and other files will not be affected.

Algorithm:

You can roll back the system to a checkpoint even when Windows does not boot at all. In this case, when the user tries to start the OS, a warning window appears:

Click on additional options recovery. We launch the diagnostic program by clicking on the appropriate menu:

Enable system recovery mode:

After selecting this item, a familiar window appears. In it you need to select a checkpoint for rollback. That's the whole answer to the question of how to restore Windows 10 using a checkpoint.

Restore Windows to its original state

If the system recovery mode failed to get rid of the problems that arose, then it is replaced by the rollback to basic settings function.

The initial state of the restored OS may look like this:

  1. Fully saved user files and some utilities. However, all device drivers, some programs and personal settings reset;
  2. Complete removal of all personal data of the owner. The option can be compared with complete reinstallation Windows via BIOS.

Comment. If Windows 10 - factory system computer, then a third option appears. It represents a rollback of parameters to factory settings. In this case, absolutely everything is deleted, including files from non-system drives.

The method indicated in the note is radical and is used extremely rarely.

System rollback algorithm:

As soon as you make a choice, the OS rollback will begin, which will last from 40 to 90 minutes. The duration depends on the number of files being saved/deleted.

System rollback via BIOS

If the system does not start at all, then the only option is to restore Windows through the BIOS. To do this we need a disk with an image or distribution ( installation file) operating systems.

Before inserting OS media, you need to configure the BIOS to read from a disk/flash drive. To enable the BIOS, use the following keys: Delete, F8, F10, F12, depending on the motherboard.

Comment. There is one problem in Windows 10: the window between direct launch system and the ability to load the BIOS takes a few seconds. If you do not know the purpose of the keys, you will have to restart the PC several times.
