Comparison of iPhone X and Samsung Note 8

, undoubtedly attracted a lot of attention during the official announcement. This is due to both its capabilities and its cost. The model has a difficult task - to erase the bad reputation of its predecessor and make users believe that the Note series is safe and upscale.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or S8+ - what to choose?

Note 8 and S8 plus are almost identical, if you are only interested in what to choose and whether it makes sense to overpay 20,000 rubles for Note 8, then we will not drag our feet and answer your question right away - most likely not. But, there are nuances :) So, why does Samsung want an additional 20 thousand? There will be some spoilers ahead, so be forewarned. 1. S-Pen stylus Actually, not a single smartphone now has a stylus. Its advantages are not so obvious and not many people understand why it is needed at all. If you are among them and the stylus itself is not interesting to you, then you are unlikely to use it. You can either use the stylus or not - there is no middle ground. I have friends who have been using Note line smartphones for a long time and they can’t imagine how it’s possible without a stylus? But at the same time, there are friends who have never used a stylus, and one of them was not even aware that he had one. In general, if you have not used a stylus before, you do not know what to do with it, then it is unlikely to be of use to you. On the contrary, there is no point in telling people who love styluses about its advantages. 2. Screen You understand, it’s funny here - 6.3 inches and 6.2 inches. The screens are identical. 3. Dual camera I believe this is the only really noticeable benefit. The main module and front camera are the same as the S8/S8+, but a second camera has appeared with a set of really interesting functions.

Should you buy Note 8 instead of S8+?

Personally, I think there is no point. If you were going to buy the S8+, then buy it. By the way, its battery is slightly more powerful: 3500 mAh in the S8+, versus 3200 in the Note 8.

Appearance and design

The Galaxy Note 8 is a 6.3-inch smartphone, which means you should expect to see a larger device in front of you. However, for such a large screen the dimensions of the device are quite acceptable. Holding the smartphone in one hand is comfortable, since the width of the device is very similar to a classic 5.2-inch smartphone. Note 8, however, is noticeably longer, so the top of the screen is almost impossible to reach with the thumb of the hand in which the smartphone is lying. Below you can compare how the Galaxy Note 8 stacks up against the 5.2-inch Moto G5 Plus and the 4.7-inch Galaxy A3 (2017). The thickness and weight are a little more than the Galaxy S8, but still ok. The smartphone is 8.6 mm thick and weighs 195 grams. In the image and likeness of the company's current top devices, Galaxy Note 8 has a glass back panel, which, like the screen, has a slight curvature at the edges. True, this curvature is more moderate than in the Galaxy S8. So the design looks a little more angular, but that's not necessarily a negative. Between the two glass parts, which are protected by Gorilla Glass 5, there is a metal frame that is clearly distinguishable from glass when touched. As you might expect, the glass back of the model is again a fingerprint magnet, which is one of the downsides. As a plus, however, we will include a waterproof case with an IP68 certificate, which allows you to immerse your smartphone to a depth of up to one and a half meters for 30 minutes.
From the front, the smartphone looks quite attractive, mainly thanks to the two curved sides that make the side bezels almost invisible. There is very little space under and above the screen. For example, there is no physical Home button. As in the Galaxy S8, the Note 8 has three touch buttons on the screen, while the main button recognizes pressure, and pressing is accompanied by a slight vibration. The idea behind this approach is that even if the touch buttons are hidden during gameplay, pressing the Home button will instantly take you to main screen. Pressing it can also unlock the device. In a small area above the screen there is a front camera, a speaker, an LED notification indicator, proximity sensors, light sensors and iris recognition.

At the rear, the dual camera is what attracts the most attention. Next to the camera there is an LED flash and sensor heart rate. There is also a fingerprint scanner, and it is also located next to the dual camera. A little lower Samsung inscription, and even lower you will see the model name, markings and other inscriptions.

Like the Galaxy S8, the Note 8 has a Bixby button located just below the volume buttons. At first, you might confuse it with the power button, which is on the other side, as it looks exactly the same. At the bottom there is a headphone jack, a USB Type-C charging port, a built-in microphone, a speaker and an S Pen, which can be easily pulled out and put back in without the risk of it accidentally falling out. Above are slots for Nano-SIM cards and microSD cards. There you will also find a second built-in microphone.

Screen

The Galaxy Note 8 display again offers a 1440 x 2960 pixel resolution, the same as the Galaxy S8 introduced earlier this year. Here, however, we already have a 6.3-inch display, which gives a pixel density of 521ppi. This is, of course, a very, very detailed picture. The matrix is Super AMOLED, so the colors will be rich and contrasting. In the settings you can set the resolution to a lower one, which should have a positive effect on battery life.

Screen Modes

Super AMOLED displays have a wide color range. Although many screens do not have the full sRGB color gamut, Samsung Galaxy The Note 8 has screen modes that allow the user to select multiple color spaces that closely overlap sRGB. This raises the quality of the screen and its color reproduction to completely unattainable levels. Moreover, like the S8/S8+, it has a very funny effect - everything you shoot with a smartphone camera on its screen looks simply incredible, everything is very bright and saturated, you just can’t get enough of it. But if you transfer photos to a computer or another phone, the quality of the photos suddenly deteriorates. I find this funny and another confirmation of how high-quality the screens are on top Samsung smartphones, while some people manage to complain about it.

Blue light filter

After sunset, when the biological clock prepares our body for sleep, blue light with a wavelength of about 440 nm leads to hormonal imbalance, which leads to a number of negative effects. In the display settings menu you will find a filter of blue color, which affects the screen settings, limiting it, especially in the dark hours of the day. This will reduce eye fatigue. You can also adjust the filter activity level and set the time for it to run. automatic switching on and shutdown. If you turn on GPS, your smartphone will know when sunset and sunrise occur in your area, so it can activate the filter during these periods.

Main screen

This submenu has a few different options, for example you can choose whether you have an internal menu or all the available icons can be located on the main screen. You can also choose how many rows and columns the application icon tile will have, and whether separate button. Finally, you can hide certain apps.

Easy mode

We have previously seen this mode in Samsung models, but this time it has been moved to the display menu. Selecting Simple mode will increase the size of all applications and icons, so Homepage as a result, it will contain fewer of them. You can choose in advance which applications you want to receive fast access. Faster and more convenient access to your favorite contacts will also be on one of your home screens.

Navigation bar

You can customize the color of the bottom bar with touch buttons, swap the back buttons and the demo button open applications. You can also unlock the phone by pressing the Home button harder, and you can adjust the pressing force at which the unlocking will be triggered.

Edge screen

Here you will see two options that you can turn on and off. The first configures what information is displayed on the side of the screen when panned from right to left. You can choose a panel that includes frequently used apps, favorite contacts, weather, sports scores and more. Another functionality of this Edge screen is as an indicator light for various notifications. Of course, you can specify notifications from which applications will be shown there.
Display settings also have several other functions, such as preventing accidental taps on the screen when it is in your pocket, changing the appearance of icons, adjusting brightness, font, and much more. You can even choose what resolution the screen will have and which apps can be displayed in full screen.

S-Pen stylus

Galaxy Note smartphones are the only smartphones that have a stylus - S-Pen. And this stylus can be called unsurpassed. I know several people who are so used to it series that they cannot imagine changing their smartphone to anything else - precisely thanks to the advanced features of the S Pen. But let's start with the stylus itself, which, as usual, is hidden in a special niche located in the lower right corner of the smartphone. This is possible thanks to the clickable part of the stylus - it is responsible for pushing the S Pen out of the slot. The stylus also has a button that presses and holds a note twice on the screen - also on the screen.

Battery

Just a few weeks before the launch of the Galaxy Note 8, many expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that the smartphone will only have a 3,300 mAh battery. This, with a really large high-resolution display and advanced features, didn't look very good and didn't bode well. Dry numbers indicate that the battery capacity has decreased to 3300 mAh, and the screen resolution has increased. If you use the phone mainly with Wi-Fi, it will work for about 6 hours with the screen on. If you switch to mobile data transmission and use only LTE and Bluetooth, the time of continuous operation with the screen on will decrease to 3.5-4.5 hours, depending on the brightness of the screen. This is far from the most top scores, but considering that in most cases the Galaxy Note 8 can last until the end of the working day on one charge, they are quite acceptable. And you need to remember that the Galaxy Note 8 has wireless charging, so you can charge it immediately when you come to the office or home, without reaching for a cable. As mentioned, the smartphone apparently supports fast booting, and the entire process itself takes about 1.5 hours. In everyday work, fast charging has helped me out more than once. Even 15 minutes of charging gives you at least a couple of hours of extra work.

Settings and power saving modes

There are two modes in the battery menu that can limit battery consumption. The first "moderate power saving mode" makes a few minor restrictions, which slightly increases battery life. However, the second one, which is called the maximum energy saving mode, is more interesting. It limits the maximum screen brightness, performance mobile chip and mobile data. Available only basic applications and settings. You can also find out the approximate operating time in this mode. The menu also contains consumption information various applications at different periods of time.

Software

The Galaxy Note 8 runs Android 7.1 Nougat, and you can be sure that it will be one of the first models to receive the next update. Android versions when it becomes available. Of course, the smartphone has the latest version of Samsung's user interface, which we saw in the Galaxy S8. Overall everything is good.

Bixby

Bixby is another new product that appeared during the announcement of the Galaxy S8. This is a new virtual assistant that even has its own physical button. It can be called by voice (holding the button), text or touch. You can even capture an object with your camera, then Bixby will start searching for it. Bixby looks up how much it costs and where to buy it, gives information about different attractions and places you can visit, identifies QR codes, etc. In addition to pressing the button, Bixby can be brought up by swiping right on the home screen. It finds information about everything you need - last news, upcoming tasks, weather forecasts, diaries and everything else.

Retinal scanner

Besides the usual fingerprint sensor, one of the latest and most interesting things to come to the Galaxy S8 was the retinal scanner, which is also available on the Galaxy Note 8. It detects your eyes quickly, but in my opinion there are many nuances that make The fingerprint sensor is much more convenient. In order for your eyes to be scanned, you must hold the device against your eyes at a certain distance. Additionally, unlocking will not work if you wear contacts or glasses. But in any case, this is a really interesting way to unlock a smartphone, which you can show off to your friends a couple of times.

Performance

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes in two versions when it comes to mobile processor. In the US and China, the model comes with the Snapdragon 835, while in Europe it comes with the Exynos 8895, which we used in our tests. The Exynos 8895 has eight cores, the first four - Exynos M1 - clocked at up to 2.3 GHz, and the second with Cortex-A53 architecture and up to 1.7 GHz. Samsung has improved the architecture of its Exynos M1 cores, increasing power and reducing power consumption. The Exynos 8895 is the first processor to be built on a 10nm FinFET process, making the Galaxy Note 8 even faster, reducing power consumption by 40% and increasing performance by 27% compared to its 14nm predecessor. The chip supports LTE Cat 16 communications, providing download speeds of up to 150 Mbps. Chip support also includes 28MP front and rear cameras, a 4K screen, and 4K video recording at 120fps. Thanks to its dual image processors, the Exynos 8895 also supports dual cameras. The mobile chip also has a new graphics chip Mali-G71, which with 20 cores provides 60% higher performance than its predecessor. Samsung also says the chip will remain cool even after heavy load, and power consumption is significantly reduced. More information about Exynos 8895 can be found on the official website: http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/Exynos/w/solution/mod_ap/8895/ Galaxy Note 8 has 6GB random access memory.

Temperature

Along with performance, we always measure how hot the device under test gets after prolonged use. In this case, the upload was shooting 4K video, which is one of the most difficult operations for a smartphone. 4K videos are limited to 10 minutes, so we will check immediately after the video ends maximum temperature in three different areas on the back of the model.

Galaxy Note 8 camera

The Galaxy Note 8's camera is one of the major upgrades over the S8. It is implemented according to the already popular “dual-camera” scheme for smartphones, including a second wide-angle one, which has a 2x optical zoom. Zoom can be activated using a small button and may not be available depending on conditions. This happens when the camera software decides that under these conditions you are better off using the main camera. In addition to optical zoom, the second camera can also create a bokeh effect. This is a Live Focus feature that allows you to adjust the background blur both during and after shooting. In any case, both sensors have a resolution of 12 megapixels, dual LED flash, the main camera has an f/1.7 aperture (exactly the same camera in the Galaxy S8/Galaxy S8 Plus), and the second has an f/2.4 aperture. Another difference is that the main camera boasts ultra-fast dual pixel autofocus. Both cameras have optical image stabilization, which is a first for us in a dual-camera smartphone. The most important, Galaxy photos Note 8 is really cool and fully corresponds to the flagship level. The smartphone does high quality photos graphs even in low light conditions, thanks in particular to fast autofocus and optical stabilization Images. The front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and an f/1.7 aperture. There's also Intelligent Autofocus, which tracks faces to ensure everyone in the photo is in focus. The front camera settings have several shooting modes, including widescreen, which allows you to take photos with big amount people, a selective focus mode in which you determine which object in the photo should be in focus. Of course, there are also various effects, filters, stickers, etc.

Camera menus and functions

The camera menu is practically no different from the Galaxy S8. This is called through the slide on the right includes several modes. Professional mode gives access to various settings such as shutter speed, exposure, ISO, white balance and more. There is also a panorama, different video speeds, and even a “Food” mode that makes photos more appetizing. Swiping left gives you access to a variety of filters that will make your photo more impressive. There are also various stickers available here.

Slow-mo

Conclusion

Samsung's Note line fell into disrepute after the fiasco with its latest representative. The Galaxy Note 8 seems to be almost perfect, but you will have to shell out a considerable amount of money for it. Either way, it will amaze you with its appearance, including the curved glass on both sides, both front and back. There is also a fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor and retina sensor, which appeared in the Galaxy S8. The display has increased to 6.3 inches. This screen size is more typical of small tablets than smartphones, but thanks to minimal side frames dimensions are within reasonable limits. Let's not forget the S Pen, which brings additional functionality not available to other smartphones. The Exynos 8895 mobile processor is also the best Samsung has to offer, paired with 6GB of RAM for excellent performance. In addition to high performance, the chip heats up relatively little after prolonged use. Last but not least, the camera module has received an update, which now includes two 12MP sensors with optical image stabilization. The photos taken with it are really cool.

Pros of Samsung Galaxy Note 8

  • Waterproof (IP68) and heart rate, fingerprint and retina sensors
  • Design improvements - curved display and minimal bezels around it
  • S Pen with various handwriting options
  • Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution, high brightness and contrast and accurate colors
  • Android interface 7.1 New + TouchWiz
  • Powerful Exynos 8895 mobile processor with Mali-G71 graphics card and 6GB RAM
  • Adequate case temperature after prolonged use
  • Dual 12-megapixel rear camera with optical stabilization, more modes and manual settings

Disadvantages of Samsung Galaxy Note 8

  • The case is a fingerprint magnet
  • Most expensive Galaxy model Note

Owner's review after use

When the first Galaxy Note came out, many people laughed at the device and its large size. Undoubtedly, few expected Samsung's enormous smartphone to be a commercial success, let alone an entire series that would still be around six years later. Now we have the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. It's big, powerful and functional smartphone, which attracts geeks.

But at the same time Samsung time The Galaxy Note 8 is very similar to the Galaxy S8+, which hit the market a few months earlier. Next we will show how these two animals differ from each other.

The Galaxy S8+ is a huge smartphone, but the Galaxy Note 8 is no less. In fact, it's slightly wider and taller, as it houses a 6.3-inch display (versus the S8+'s 6.2-inch). With a slightly larger screen and less rounded edges, the Galaxy Note 8 feels a little chunkier. Thanks to the so-called infinity display, which occupies almost the entire front panel, both models have a narrower shape. Therefore, despite the size of their screens, they are not difficult to hold and use. It should be noted that the Galaxy Note 8 is noticeably heavier.

In any case, both smartphones are very similar in their designs, with the impeccable superiority achieved through the use of curved glass and metal. If it weren't for the different color options, you'd have a harder time telling them apart. Their displays look equally bright and colorful, with an always-on display feature and an identical set of on-screen navigation buttons. And yes, both are protected from dust and moisture according to the IP68 certificate.

Software and Interface: Using the S Pen

The situation changes when we take out the S Pen stylus. It's only found in the Galaxy Note 8, and it's one of the key differentiating features that elevates the user experience with the device. new level. That's a fancy way of saying that you can draw with the S Pen on the Note 8. For example, by taking the accessory out of its dedicated slot, you can quickly jot down a note right on the lock screen. Or send someone a handwritten note as a GIF so they can see how it was created. Or you can draw a mustache on your selfie. The Galaxy S8+ doesn't have an S Pen, and even if you buy the stylus separately, it won't work with the smartphone.

Apart from a large number of built-in stylus-related functions, the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8+ are almost identical at the software level. Both run Samsung's latest user interface, along with all its bells and whistles, including personal assistant Bixby and sliding sidebar. Both models support the multi-window feature, but the screenshot of the Galaxy Note 8 shows that this mode adds the ability to view other open applications.

Both smartphones work with the Samsung DeX dock, which allows you to connect a keyboard, mouse and monitor. If you already have this accessory, the company has confirmed that it is compatible with the Note 8.

When it comes to security, both phablets give you several options to lock your device and its contents: facial recognition, iris scanning, and fingerprint reading. Unfortunately, the location of the latter is just as inconvenient as on the S8+, but at least the biometric sensor is no longer near the camera, which reduces the likelihood of getting the lenses dirty.

Hardware: Note 8 has more memory, but smaller battery

Like any Android flagship, the Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 have top-end specs: fast and power-efficient 10nm processors, plenty of RAM for smooth multitasking, and plenty of expandable storage for all your files. But the Galaxy Note 8 has 50% more RAM than the S8+: 6 GB versus 4 GB. In the short amount of time Phonearena used the Note 8, they didn't notice any difference in performance between the two, although multitasking should theoretically improve. Additional RAM will allow software load more applications into memory, and do not constantly start them from scratch.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with a slightly smaller battery, presumably due to the fact that some of the internal space is taken up by the S Pen slot. The difference in capacity is 6% - not much, but still a deterioration. Since the Note 8 and S8+ have very similar hardware, the Note 8 is expected to score lower in battery performance tests than the S8+, but still on par with its competitors.

Camera: twice the capabilities

And now we come to the most exciting feature of the Galaxy Note 8 - the dual camera on the back. Although this is Samsung's first smartphone with a dual camera system, the concept is not new at all. The phablet has a regular 12-megapixel camera along with a 12-megapixel telephoto lens that offers 2x zoom, similar to the iPhone 7 Plus. Like Apple's smartphone, the Note 8 lets you blur the background of your photos (bokeh effect) using Live Focus. But unlike the iPhone, the Note 8 has optical stabilization on the telephoto lens for clearer shots, and it also allows you to adjust the amount of blur.

However, the main camera is identical to that installed on the Galaxy S8+. The same goes for the 8-megapixel front camera with optical image stabilization. Therefore, photos taken by two smartphones look the same unless the Note 8 uses the secondary camera with 2x optical zoom or Live Focus. Samsung already has one of the best smartphone cameras in the Galaxy S series, so upgrading the main sensor for the Note 8 certainly wasn't a priority.

Price and release date

Despite the fact that the authors spent only a couple of hours with the Samsung Note 8, they are confident that it is an excellent smartphone. Even if you're not a fan of the S Pen, the dual camera seems enough to make you choose the Galaxy Note 8 over the Galaxy S8+. Of course, the Galaxy Note 8 has a whopping $930-$960 price tag, but the Galaxy S8+ isn't cheap either, costing around $800. Samsung is also adding accessories to sweeten the deal for early Note 8 buyers: a 360-degree camera or charging pad plus a microSD card.

It's time to compare the freshly baked Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8/S8 Plus, and thus decide what to choose. The new phablet was presented at the next Samsung Unpacked 2017 event on August 23. This is the third flagship of the Korean brand, but it differs from the other two in the presence powerful tool called S Pen.

All of these devices use an almost identical hardware platform, but the Galaxy Note 8 still offers more than the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, but is noticeably more expensive. Let's break down all the differences so you can determine which is best for you.

Appearance and Design

We see a similar design in all three smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is quite a bit larger than the Galaxy S8+, which in turn is larger than the regular S8. Their body is made of metal and glass, which is present on both sides. The manufacturer uses very durable Corning Gorilla Glass 5 - it is hard to break and even harder to scratch.

With a pen on board, the Galaxy Note 8 is larger and heavier than the other two flagships. Its height is 162.5 mm, the width is 74.8 mm, and the thickness is 8.6 mm. It weighs 195 grams. Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus was 0.5 mm thinner, 1.5 mm narrower and 3 mm lower. And it weighs as much as 22 grams less, although everything becomes clear if you remember that the Note received a significantly less powerful battery. Possessing dimensions 148.9 x 68.1 x 8 mm, Samsung S8 is the most compact. It's 40 grams lighter than the Note 8 and 22 grams lighter than the Plus.

All smartphones as one are certified to the IP68 standard, thanks to which they can be submerged under water to a depth of up to 1.5 meters. While the S8/S8 Plus screens are unable to respond to finger touches while underwater, the S Pen new Note 8 works great in these conditions. This way, the user can take photos and record videos underwater or when the display is wet.

The frames on the left and right are almost invisible, but on the top and bottom they are as thin as possible. Above the screen are speaker, front camera, iris scanner, light and proximity sensors. There is nothing underneath, the Home button has become virtual, and the fingerprint sensor is located on the back, like on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. All mechanical buttons are placed equally on these three gadgets. On the left side is the volume rocker and activation of the Bixby voice assistant, and on the right is the power/lock key.

The SIM and memory card slots are located on the top of both the Note and Galaxy S8/S8 Plus. There are differences below. While the Galaxy S series devices have a speakerphone, USB Type-C and 3.5 mm, the new Galaxy Note 8 also has a slot for the S Pen.

Display

In this area, there are even fewer differences between these smartphones. The physical resolution is the same - 2960x1440 pixels - the same aspect ratio, but the pixel density is different. The reason is that the Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch screen, the S8 Plus has a 6.2-inch screen, and the Note 8 has a 6.3-inch screen. Consequently, the smallest gadget boasts a density of 570 PPI, the medium - 529 PPI, and the largest - 521 PPI.

In all three cases, Samsung uses Super AMOLED technology, which is compatible with the Mobile HDR Premium standard. The picture quality, in fact, will be almost equally good on these gadgets. Maximum brightness The screen doesn't disappoint either.

These devices, without exception, offer the functionality of an always-on screen, displaying useful information in standby mode. This way, you don't have to wake up your phone to see if there are any missed notifications.

Cameras

The main difference between the new product and the flagships released at the beginning of this year is its dual main camera. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus received regular cameras, and the Note 8 boasts a pair of 12-megapixel sensors that are located on the back. One of them can take wide-angle photographs, and the second can zoom in without losing quality - this is a 2x zoom.

The wide-angle lens has an aperture of f/1.7, and the telephoto lens has an aperture of f/2.4. Both the S8 and its brother at one time acquired cameras with an f/1.7 aperture, so in poor lighting conditions they should take photographs just as well as the Note. The front cameras are identical on all three phones: 8-megapixel sensor, autofocus and f/1.7 aperture.

Filling

The hardware platform of the new Note has undergone changes compared to the S8, but not dramatically. These smartphones are based on the same chipset - Exynos 8895, running on clock frequency 2.3 GHz. In the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the company increased the amount of RAM from 4 to 6 gigabytes. Volume permanent memory remained the same (64 GB), but the new device can also be purchased with 128 and 256 GB of ROM. You can increase your storage space using a microSD memory card on all models.

No matter how strange it may seem, but powerful battery has a 6.2-inch Plus. It received an autonomous power source with a capacity of 3500 mAh. Inside the Samsung Note 8, which is noticeably thicker than the other two devices, there is a 3,300 mAh battery, while the S8 has a 3,000 mAh battery. We still have to find out the battery life.

Each of the above-mentioned flagships comes with headphones from AKG. The accessory is sold separately at a price of 100 dollars or 6 thousand rubles.

Software

Samsung released the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus with Android 7.0 Nougat pre-installed, while the Note 8 came with Android 7.1.1 on board. In any case, the user receives the latest version of the Samsung Experience user interface, meaning the UI design will be the same on all three devices.

With the Galaxy Note 8, you get advanced capabilities through the S Pen. They are missing on the other two flagships. For example, by pulling out the stylus from your phone while it's in standby mode, you can quickly create a note. This pen allows you to instantly translate words from one language to another, and also create GIF animations from videos in seconds.

Price

According to available on this moment According to information, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in the basic configuration will be 15 thousand rubles more expensive than the Galaxy S8 with the same amount of built-in memory. Consequently, the 6.3-inch model will cost 10 thousand rubles more than the Plus.

It's up to you to decide whether it's worth paying extra for the S Pen, 6 GB of RAM and a dual main camera. By the way, the Korean manufacturer recently introduced the S8 Plus in Russia with 128 GB of ROM and 6 GB of RAM, but this version will cost you 65 thousand rubles.

Let's sum it up

If you want a phablet with a huge screen, but don't care about the S Pen and dual cameras, then it's probably better to save money by getting the Galaxy S8 Plus. In return, you get a more powerful battery, which is also very important. A fan of the Galaxy Note series will definitely take the new product and learn how to take portrait photos and surf the Internet underwater.

Samsung Note 8 will definitely offer more high performance than the Galaxy S8 thanks to 6GB of RAM. It also looks more attractive due to the fact that it is available in a variant with 256 GB of internal memory. Unfortunately, the memory card slot is hybrid on all three gadgets, so if you want to use two SIM cards at the same time, it is better to choose a more expensive model that has more free ROM space so as not to use microSD.

There are few such irreconcilable competitors in the technology products market as Apple and , which have been fighting for smartphone sales for many years. Over the past few years, Samsung has improved the design of its devices and now offers beautiful glass and metal devices that are eye-catching. As an example we can name: this large smartphone, which no other model on the market has.

In September, this device had a serious competitor. The announcement took place and then, where the design received changes in the form of a glass back surface, the processor was significantly improved and the new iOS 11 system was used.

Both devices have great cameras. The Note 8 was the first Samsung smartphone to feature a dual rear camera and telephoto lenses for zoom and portrait photography. The iPhone 8 Plus has improved portrait photography, which introduced.

So, which of these devices should you choose? Let's try to find all the pros and cons.

Design of iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8

Samsung did a great job switching from cheap and uninteresting plastic smartphones to a combination of glass and metal a few years ago. As far as Apple is concerned, the iPhone 8 Plus feels like the fourth generation of the same device since . There have been very few changes over the years. It seems that Samsung is the leader in the beauty of smartphones. Note 8 has a futuristic edge-to-edge screen and a sleek look, unlike the iPhone. However, the latter is also evolving: a glass back surface has appeared, thanks to which the device feels better in the hand. The silver and gold versions make fingerprints less noticeable, so the case looks cleaner. The gray iPhone, like the iPhone, gets dirty much more with fingerprints.

There are two important things to say about the glass on both smartphones: it scratches easily and is likely to break if dropped. It is recommended to buy cases, but even without them, smartphones are not as slippery as some other models with metal cases.

It should also be said that both devices are very large. The Note 8 is narrower but also longer, while the iPhone 8 Plus is very wide. Most often you will have to hold them with both hands.

The size makes it difficult to use the Note 8's fingerprint scanner, which is located on the back of the case next to the camera. This is a big inconvenience; on an iPhone it’s much easier to reach the scanner.

Also, both smartphones are heavy, but not too heavy; rather, they give a feeling of solidity when held in your hand. iPhone weighs 202 g, Galaxy Note 8 195 g.

The devices are protected from water; for the iPhone it is IP67, for the Galaxy it is IP68. The first number means the same level of protection from dust, while the second indicates the ability to be immersed in water to a certain depth, in this case a meter and a half meter for 30 minutes.

Screen iPhone 8 Plus vs Galaxy Note 8

These smartphones currently have the best screens available on the market. For the iPhone, it's a 5.5-inch LCD panel, while the Note 8 uses a 6.3-inch AMOLED panel. Both are set to 1080p resolution, but the Note 8 can be upgraded to Quad HD.

Besides size, the difference between the screens is their shape. Samsung calls its screen Infinity Display for its lack of bezels. The result is a screen-to-body ratio of 83% versus just 67.5% on the iPhone. This significant difference allows you to immerse yourself deeper into the content on the Galaxy screen, and more of that content fits on the screen. Below remain virtual buttons, which can sometimes block the view.

The main parameter in all screens is colors. iPhone supports DCI-P3 standard, which contains more colors than most regular screens. On the latter, the image looks dimmer. The Note 8 also produces rich colors by default, although you can choose other display modes.

For the first time, the iPhone now supports True Tone technology, which was previously . This is where the white balance adapts depending on the ambient light, resulting in typically warmer and more natural colors in rooms.

The Galaxy's screen is brighter outdoors, although the brightness of both phones is among the best and there is little glare. Minimum brightness is also the same and allows you to strain your eyes less in the dark.

The iOS and Android operating systems are two fundamentally different platforms that do the same things in different ways. The new iOS 11 is installed on the iPhone, and Android 7.1 on the Note 8 with the Samsung Experience shell. iOS looks more colorful and runs smoother, but Android has better notification organization.

Let's look at the key advantages of iPhone and its operating system. Firstly, there is the iMessage app. The instant messaging service is used by most iPhone owners in the US, but not in other countries. Since it is not available on Android, this messenger keeps users in Apple ecosystem, where they have many friends and interlocutors.

The new iPhone supports augmented reality applications based on Apple's ARKit framework. One of the first applications on it is for stargazing, another for buying IKEA furniture, there are tools for measuring dimensions using a camera and a game. Android in this case acts as a catch-up.

To others advantage of iOS is a store App Store. Here games and applications appear earlier, and some are not found anywhere else. The store received visual update, improved scaling, changed fonts. There is support for 3D Touch and screenshots with annotations.

Android's superiority lies in the level of customization through graphic themes and icon packs that the iPhone lacks. There is a split screen between two applications, which iOS does not support. The Note 8 lets you save pairs of apps to run at the same time, which is handy when you use the same combinations.

Edge feature available: A small panel on the side that gives access to shortcuts, favorite contacts, weather and stock information.

An iris scanner is supported for unlocking the smartphone, which works well when the device is close to the face, but cannot compare in reliability with the fingerprint scanner on the iPhone. One more strong point Galaxy is DeX dock. If you install the device into it, you can connect a keyboard, mouse and monitor and get an analogue of a personal computer with the ability to work on big screen. This option is good for test work, reading websites, viewing photos and videos.

Apple Siri vs Samsung Bixby vs Google Assistant

Competition in the smartphone market is also between virtual assistants. On iPhone it's Siri, on Android it's fragmented as usual and there's Google Assistant and Samsung Bixby. Siri has an important advantage: you can use it directly on the lock screen without having to unlock your smartphone. Here you can set alarms, reminders, calendar events, etc.

Google Assistant better understands voice commands and the context of what is said. Bixby is the weirdest option. This assistant has one superpower: it can do work inside applications. However, you need to speak phrases accurately, the level of voice recognition is not so high and in general this assistant must catch up with the other two.

Stylus

In addition to the docking station, Note 8 has a distinctive feature in the form of the S-Pen stylus. The iPhone can't do anything against this. Not all users need a stylus on their smartphone, but if they do, the Note 8 is the only choice.

Simply remove the stylus from the hole and you can start writing, drawing, or using it to navigate the interface. You can write notes on the screen without unlocking your smartphone. It's easier to edit photos and perform tasks that require precision. The stylus is useful for artists and designers.

iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 performance and memory

These two smartphones are the fastest on sale, but in a practical sense in 2017 this doesn't really matter. The iPhone is powered by Apple's new A11 Bionic processor, and the Note 8 is powered by the Snapdragon 835. These two processors are built on a 10nm process, which means increased power efficiency compared to previous-generation chips.

Apple processor is 6-core. There are two large cores for complex computing tasks and four smaller ones to reduce power consumption. Snapdragon 835 8-core, there are four large and four economical ones. The amount of RAM on the iPhone 8 Plus is 3 GB, on the Note 8 6 GB, but you need to take into account different operating systems and best job with memory on iOS 11. In tests, the Apple A11 Bionic processor leads by a wide margin over all competitors and is even able to withstand Intel Core processors in MacBook laptops Pro.

That being said, the iPhone doesn't feel any faster than the Galaxy. Sometimes the latter exhibits a lot of stuttering, but it still doesn't seem slower when opening applications.

In the most complex tasks The iPhone's computing capabilities are in full effect. For example, if you need to download a 4K video to iMovie app, processing of this video will be several times faster than on Note 8, but it’s unlikely that many people do such tasks, especially every day. Such performance is rather a reserve for the future, but has no practical significance today.

For gaming, the iPhone is also a more attractive option than the Galaxy Note 8 in the long run. It's not just speed, but also the App Store: games appear here first and often don't appear anywhere else.

The iPhone 8 Plus has two flash memory options: 64 GB and 256 GB; memory cards are not supported. Note 8 only has a version with 64 GB of memory, but there is a slot for microSD memory cards.

Cameras iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8

These are not just two of the best smartphones, they are also... best smartphones for photographing. Both devices have dual rear cameras with telephoto lenses for zooming in and portrait mode for blurring the background. Let's skip the specifications and go straight to the quality of the cameras.

The camera apps in both cases launch quickly and take photos quickly. When comparing, the first thing you will notice is the difference in colors. The iPhone produces more realistic colors, while the Galaxy adds more saturation. Which option users will like best is a matter of taste; in some cases, preference may be given to the iPhone, in others to the Galaxy. The latter processes green color with a slight yellowish tint.

In terms of sharpness, the Note 8 wins, the photos come out cleaner and more saturated. The iPhone lacks definition at the edges of the image, while the Samsung smartphone remains stable throughout the entire photo.

You could say the Note 8 is better at taking photos, but the difference is minimal.

Portrait mode and live focus

Portrait mode is the hallmark of these cameras. Here the background of the image is blurred and the object in the foreground comes into sharp focus. On the Galaxy, this feature is called "Live Focus" because you can change the level of blur, whereas on the iPhone this level is preset.

A big problem with image blur was handling the edges between the subject and the background. The Note 8 does a better job of this, delivering a seamless transition where the iPhone shows artifacts. However, the results may depend on what and where you shoot.

The Note 8 produces sharper photos, while the iPhone lacks detail. Dynamic range at Galaxy is better The iPhone tends to capture highlights that are too bright, while the Galaxy retains image detail better.

iPhone 8 Plus received new effect Portrait Lighting, which the Note 8 doesn't have. This effect has four settings:

  1. Studio Light: Highlights the face without harsh shadows
  2. Contour Light: highlights the edges of the face with deep shadows, illuminates the center of the face, creates more contrast
  3. Stage Light: Similar to a contour light, but changes the background to black
  4. Stage Light Mono: Similar to the previous option, but changes the image to black and white with a little grain
This allows you to add saturation to your face portrait photography, but in terms of its usefulness it is hardly superior to conventional filters.

Video

When shooting video, the iPhone has an advantage. The device supports 4K at 60fps, which is a significant leap forward in terms of image quality, especially if the subject is moving. Once you get used to shooting like this, you won’t want to go back to 4K 30fps. Naturally, you will have to pay by doubling the file size. If you plan to use this format frequently, it is better to buy a model with 256 GB of flash memory.

Samsung also promises to upgrade the Note 8 to 4K 60fps in the near future, but that hasn't happened yet. Even at 30 fps you can see what's below dynamic range and worse video stabilization, as a result of which the videos on the main module turn out slightly shaky. If you switch to the telephoto lens, the iPhone starts to lag because there is no optical image stabilization on the sub-module and it looks shaky.

Note 8 uses traditional JPEG and MP4 formats, which take up more space but are recognized on all operating systems.

Sound

On the Note 8, the only speaker is located at the bottom of the body. It can be quite loud, but the clarity and clarity of the sound lags behind the iPhone. The sound is too blurry and vague, so it's best to listen to music on iPhone speakers.

Using headphones improves sound quality, but the iPhone doesn't have a jack for it. Headphones with a Lightning connector have become no longer on sale over the past year. The package comes with some great AirPods, so you can use them. It also includes an adapter between Lightning and 3.5 mm jack. The Note 8 has a classic connector.

There were no problems with telephone conversations on these smartphones during testing. Some users of both iPhone 8 models have reported static noise and clicking, and Apple has confirmed the issue. She's about to release software update soon.

Battery life Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs iPhone 8 Plus

If other aspects of smartphones are developing by leaps and bounds, then their batteries have remained approximately the same for many years. The iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 are capable of working throughout the day between charges, but if the load is high, they may not last until the evening. With a light load, the result may be a day and a half, but hardly two.

In everyday iPhone work able to last a little longer thanks to energy savings in standby mode. In this case, the capacity iPhone battery equal to 2675 mAh versus 3300 mAh on Note 8. Obviously, the difference in power consumption of components and the operating system makes itself felt.

For the first time, the iPhone supports wireless charging, which appeared on Android three years ago. At the same time, the device comes with a slow charger and you will have to spend about $50 for a fast one. On Android they are usually included in the package.

If you buy it, you can charge your iPhone from zero to 40% in about 30 minutes. This is a significant increase compared to the slow charging of all iPhone Plus devices.

The Qi wireless charging standard is supported, which has also been available on Android for many years. Wireless charging is slower and most adapters typically deliver 7.5W of power, but you don't have to keep your smartphone near a wall outlet. Apple is working on its own wireless charger, but it won't be released until 2018 and will be expensive, so for now you can use third-party models. Note 8 also supports wireless charging, including 2x faster Qi 1.2 standard.

Conclusion

Let's compare prices. iPhone 8 Plus 64 GB and 256 GB cost $800 and $950. Note 8 64 GB costs $930. Thus, a Samsung smartphone is more expensive than an iPhone, the difference is quite significant.

Otherwise, the choice depends on user preferences. In some aspects, the two smartphones are equally good. The Apple processor is faster, but not real speed it is almost not reflected. In some cases, the iPhone camera takes better photos and videos, in others the Galaxy camera takes better photos.

If you are a video enthusiast, the iPhone has 4K 60fps, better and faster than the game, video and image editing apps, there is the popular iMessage app.

Today, smartphones are more accessible than ever. You can find a model for $100 (or even less) that will allow you to stay online and access all your favorite social media, watch videos and other media content, and often also take good photos. However, today we will not talk about them.

Such inexpensive devices are optimal for people on a limited budget or as, say, a child’s first smartphone. The flagships are truly attractive: they combine large high-resolution screens, advanced cameras that shoot at the level of SLR cameras, powerful processors, with - where would we be without it - a thoughtful and eye-catching design.

This year, prices for top-end smartphones have crossed the $1,000 mark, but at the same time, these devices offer truly cutting-edge technology. It makes sense that by paying that kind of money for a smartphone, you will get a unique user experience. However, what exactly can current flagships offer? Today we decided to compare two premium devices: Apple iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Design

2017 was a turning point in the history of smartphone development. They have changed significantly - in particular, thanks to the spread of frameless design. In the end, almost everything large manufacturers smartphones supported the trend and released at least one device with minimal bezels around the display. Note that at the beginning of the year this was not so popular: the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 presented then have the usual rather wide frames. However, by the second half of the year the situation had changed significantly. You can notice this just in the example of the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8.

Of the two models, the Note 8 is definitely the larger smartphone: it is larger in size, screen diagonal, weight and thickness. And, in general, if not for the concept of frameless design, it would be more appropriate to compare the iPhone X with the Galaxy S8 - they are more similar in size.

Getting back to the size, it’s hard to ignore the size of the Note 8. While the display width of both models makes it easier to use the smartphone with one hand, it’s more high screen The Note 8 makes this difficult. In practice, this means that reaching a notification or quick settings panel will not always be easy - which may be critical for some users - especially girls with small hands.

There is a dual camera setup on the back of both devices. The iPhone X has modules arranged vertically with the flash in the center, while the Note 8 is horizontal. At the same time, in the Korean model the camera is centered, while on the iPhone, according to established tradition, it is located in the upper left corner. When comparing both devices, you will notice that the iPhone X's camera protrudes above the surface of the back panel much more than the Note 8's.

Connectors and buttons

At the bottom of both devices there are speakers and a charging port (Lightning and USB Type-C), and in the case of Note 8, they also add a 3.5 jack headphone jack, which has not been available in iPhones since the seventh generation. Samsung also found room for a slot with an S Pen stylus. On right side Both smartphones have power buttons, and on the left there are volume rockers. Also on the left iPhone side The X has a silent mode lever, and the Note 8 has a Bixby assistant button.

Let’s not forget to mention that both models lack – yes, we are talking about physical button"Home". At the same time, the Galaxy had to move the fingerprint scanner to the rear panel (not the best location, given the proximity to the camera and the stretching of the fingers required to reach the scanner). In the iPhone X, there was no need to move the scanner anywhere: it was replaced by unique technology– but more on that later.

Display

Although the displays of both smartphones seem similar when looking at the specifications, in reality there is a huge difference between them. Among the similarities, it can be noted that they are conditionally frameless and have a similar aspect ratio (18.5:9 for the Galaxy and 19.5:9 for the iPhone). In addition, in both cases OLED panels with rounded edges are used.

As for the title of the best frameless, this is a moot point. On the one hand, the Galaxy Note 8 has visually no frames on the right and left sides, while on the iPhone they are clearly visible. However, the iPhone clearly leads the pack when it comes to bezels above and below the display. This was achieved due to the notch at the top, which became the calling card of the smartphone. It houses the front camera, speaker and Face ID sensors.

However, Apple gets a couple of points for the aesthetics of the smartphone: using this notch, they managed to not only minimize the bezels, but also make them almost identical on all sides, resulting in the impression that the display actually occupies the entire front panel.

Both displays have a high level of color reproduction, but Samsung wins here due to the ability full control over color balance. On the other hand, used in iPhone True technology Tone automatically adjusts color scheme under lighting for maximum user convenience. Due to automation, this method is simpler, but at the same time it means that even if you wanted to manually configure nothing, it will not work.

As for brightness, the iPhone X clearly wins here. The minimum brightness of both displays is 2 nits, while the maximum is 640 and 518 nits for the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8, respectively.

Interface and functionality

When comparing iOS and Android smartphones, it’s hard not to fall into the eternal thoughts of “which OS is better.” Instead of discussing the pros and cons of operating systems, let's turn to the distinctive features of the devices themselves.

For Note 8, this is, first of all, the proprietary S Pen stylus. Its capabilities have increased significantly compared to Note 7. In particular, it is now possible to draw quick notes directly on the display when it is turned off. Another distinctive feature of this device is its voice Bixby assistant compatible with S Pen. In addition, there is even a dedicated button for activating the assistant. Although Bixby has several interesting tricks, many users complain that they often press this button accidentally.

As for the iPhone X, its uniqueness lies in the fact that it can be controlled without any buttons, styluses or other input means. It takes time to get used to it. If swiping from top to bottom to unlock can still be called intuitive, then swiping to the middle of the screen for multitasking mode will be a more difficult task. Surely in the first days this movement will not work out the first time, but over time you can get the hang of it.

It is also worth paying attention to biometric scanners. For Apple, this is the previously mentioned Face ID, which uses a special TrueDepth camera with infrared sensor(like the Xbox Kinect) to recognize the user's face. In Galaxy, you can observe several sensors at once. First of all, this is the usual fingerprint scanner, which is located on the back panel next to the camera. There is also an iris scanner – also quite an interesting technology, but less accurate and safe compared to Apple’s development.

Users note that in most cases Face ID works correctly and quickly. The only minor inconvenience is the need to swipe across the screen after the scanner has triggered in order to go to the desktop. At first this seems like an unnecessary procedure, but it’s quite possible to get used to it. Samsung system allows you to start working immediately after the user has been defined. However, the scanning itself takes much longer than Face ID and is easier to fool. Galaxy also cannot recognize people wearing glasses. Therefore, it is much faster and more convenient to use a fingerprint scanner. However, it is not so easy to reach it due to its location.

Processor and memory

It is quite logical that these flagship smartphones equipped with top processors. Like most Android flagships of 2017, the Galaxy Note 8 received an 8-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (there is also a modification with a chipset Samsung Exynos, but this article discusses the modification with Snapdragon). Installed in iPhone X latest processor from Apple called A11 Bionic. It is also used in the eighth generation iPhone.

Subjectively speaking, both chipsets are amazingly powerful for mobile devices and are ready to withstand almost any load – at least for everyday use. However, with a solid amount of data available (from benchmark results to manual battery life comparisons), it's clear that the iPhone has the edge. In almost every existing test, the Note 8 shows more modest results.

The Galaxy Note 8 wins when it comes to RAM capacity (6GB versus 3GB for the iPhone X). However, the platforms on which these devices operate have too many differences for dry numbers to reflect the real capabilities of these smartphones. You just have to take into account that, as in the case of processors, the amount of RAM is more than enough for both devices.

As for flash memory, the minimum volume in both cases is 64 GB – which is quite expected for flagships. And if the iPhone X is available in only two variations (64 and 256 GB), then the Note 8 offers more choice (there is an intermediate version of 128 GB) and, in addition, supports micro SD cards, which makes it a winner in this regard.

Camera (photo)

Galaxy Note 8 was the first smartphone where Samsung used dual camera. This is not the first generation of such modules for Apple, but the hardware has been improved compared to the iPhone 7 Plus. The systems have a lot in common: the modules in both cases are 12-megapixel (one telephoto and one wide-angle) and are equipped with an optical image stabilization system. The aperture is also practically the same. However, similar characteristics do not mean that these models photograph in the same way.

The front cameras are more different. The Note 8 has an 8-megapixel module with autofocus, while the iPhone X has a 7-megapixel TrueDepth module, which uses a 3D face scanner during shooting.

Although the fact that companies call smartphone cameras wide-angle or telephoto does not mean that they are the same, the viewing angle of the main ones iPhone cameras The X and Galaxy Note 8 are quite similar, which makes comparisons much easier.

In Auto mode, photos from the Note 8 have slightly less contrast than the iPhone X. As a result, colors on the Note 8 come out more natural, while on the iPhone X they are brighter, and the edges of objects stand out more. In general, it’s difficult to say which is better - it’s more about the preferences of the person taking the photo.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8:

HDR works well in both cases, but the iPhone X does a better job with highlights (such as bright skies) and the Note 8 with shadows. Both devices use a second module to blur the background with a bokeh effect, but there are also unique features. In particular, the iPhone X offers a special portrait mode with the ability to get rid of the background, and the Note 8 camera allows you to change the subject of focus after the photo has been taken.

It is worth noting that the iPhone X offers portrait mode not only for the main but also for the front camera, which in itself is rare. It's worth noting that the front camera handles this kind of shooting amazingly well. In general, Samsung's efforts are noticeable, but Portrait Lighting is easier and more convenient to use for any user without much knowledge of photography.

Camera (video)

Samsung offers a variety of video shooting modes on the Note 8, including both regular videos and those optimized for the smartphone's super-wide screen. Although the iPhone X has a more modest mode choice, it outperforms its competitor in terms of technical parameters thanks to the ability to shoot in 4K at 60 fps.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8:

The Note 8 features faster manual focusing on close subjects, while the iPhone X is faster on focusing further away. The sound is quite clear in both cases, but on the Note 8 it is a little louder.

Multimedia

The screens of both smartphones look great when watching videos in high resolution no problems arise. But the sound quality is radically different.

The Note 8's built-in speakers sound good - until you start comparing them to the iPhone X. In addition to the fact that the iPhone's stereo speakers produce much richer and more immersive sound, timbre also plays an important role.

However, the Note 8 has big advantage in the form of a headphone port. Although iPhone users often listen to music through the headphones that come with them, it’s worth a lot to have the choice and not doom yourself to constantly wearing a 3.5 jack to Lightning adapter. True, this is only relevant if you continue to use wired headphones.

Connection quality

Neither the iPhone X nor the Note 8 have any noticeable flaws when it comes to audio or video quality. Overall, it's less than you'd expect from a $1,000 smartphone, but it's still worth mentioning when it comes to the phone.

Autonomy

Optimizing battery consumption has always been not an easy task for manufacturers. This is not surprising, given that top-end hardware, as a rule, is also the most energy-consuming. A special “expense item” in this case is the OLED displays that both models are equipped with.

Apple smartphones have never been different large capacity battery, so the 2,700 mAh in the iPhone X is more than worthy within the line. The Note 8 has a larger battery – 3,300 mAh. It would seem that the Note 8 wins in the battery comparison, but do not forget that these flagships have different screen sizes, processors and operating systems.

During a custom battery test, the iPhone X lasted more than 8 and a half hours, while the Galaxy Note 8 did not last even eight. Although both new products support wireless charging technology, it’s more interesting to see how long it takes to charge them from 0 to 100% the good old wired way. The adapters included in the kit were used for the test.

The Note 8 charges almost twice as fast: 102 minutes versus 189 in the case of the iPhone X. Considering the fiasco with the Note 7 batteries, it’s nice to see how much work has been done in this generation.

Bottom line

Both models justify their cost and, although they have a number of characteristic features, are an excellent solution both in terms of performance and camera quality, ease of use and adapted software.

It's hard to talk about any of these devices as a bargain. In any case, you are buying a premium device at an appropriate price. At the same time, a considerable part of the cost goes towards an attractive design and a couple of unique functions like TrueDepth in the iPhone or S Pen in the Galaxy. If you just like Apple smartphones or Samsung, it makes sense to pay attention to the Galaxy S8 or iPhone 8. This way you will not only get an excellent smartphone with the latest hardware and the coveted logo, but also save tens of thousands of rubles.

Note 8 and iPhone X, in turn, are aimed at super-fans for whom it is important now to have a smartphone with capabilities that are not available in others price categories. And there is nothing wrong with that - after all, each of us has different requirements for a smartphone.

In most cases the choice ultimately comes down to operating system: Do you prefer iOS or Android? If we summarize the points of comparison described above, it turns out that the advantages of Note 8 include the S Pen stylus, slightly more realistic color rendition when taking photos with the main camera, and significantly faster charging when using the included adapter. iPhone X features superior performance, a more attractive and ergonomic design, good battery life, quality built-in speakers, and ease of use with one hand.
