How to set up and use Apple Music on your smartphone. Apple Music service - how to use

Before version 8.4, the “Music” icon will automatically change to a new one.

Immediately enable the ability to listen to censored tracks - they are in Apple Music quite a lot (“Settings” -> “General” -> “Restrictions” -> “Music, podcasts” -> move the slider).

You need to update iTunes 12.2 on your computer.

Apple Music doesn't currently work on Apple TV and Android, but it should appear there.

How much to pay

The first three months the service is free. Then Russian users will have to pay 169 rubles per month (in the US, a subscription will cost $10), there is also a “family subscription” option - for six people together it will cost 269 rubles.

If you don’t want to use Apple Music, you can disable the service like this: “Settings” -> “Music” -> turn off “Show Apple Music”; “Settings” -> “General” -> “Restrictions” -> turn off “Connect to Apple Music”.

Why is this necessary?

Apple promises to provide the user with three new features:

unlimited access to more than 30 million songs, for which you do not have to pay individually; radio stations; a social network where you can follow the news of your favorite musicians.

All this is indeed provided, but with some reservations. First things first.

Apple Music is several services in one.

“For You” Tab- here you can select the genres you are interested in and your favorite musicians (and also make sure that your unloved ones never appear on Apple Music), then Apple will produce selections with names like “Ladies First: Gentle Indie, Part 1” and “Midnight Mood.” Collections change throughout the day. You can reset the settings by clicking on the access icon at the top left. personal information(at the same time, get yourself a nickname).

"New"- new releases and top charts by genre: both all at once and individually (there is even children's music and Russian chanson with top artist Mikhail Bublik). Here you can also find the latest releases and playlists such as a selection of Russian pop music and songs by musicians who performed at “Invasion”, “Trips to the Dacha with Friends”, “On a Bike with Pop Music” and “On a Bicycle to Rock Music” .

"Radio"- a service that selects music on demand, where music for training and for relaxation are separately highlighted. Abroad - including in Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan - available most interesting radio Beats 1 with DJs from Los Angeles, New York and London including Zane Lowe and soon Dr. Dre. For some reason it is not available in Russia (it would be great to make it your alarm clock), although there are options.

"Playlists"- here are playlists that you can compose yourself from tracks in Apple Music.

"My music"- your usual music library, to which tracks saved from Apple Music are added.

How to listen to Apple Music offline

You can save any song found in Apple Music for listening without the Internet (yes, regular search also works, and, by the way, there is a lot of Russian music here). To do this, click next to the song “Make available offline.”

But remember that you are not downloading music. The files, because they are protected by DRM (digital right management), do not belong to you - after three months, if you decide not to renew your subscription, they will no longer be available in your music library. However, you cannot listen to them in another program or upload them to another player.

Moreover, if you plan to upload all the music from your computer to iCloud, know that Apple will add DRM protection to it - and you will not be able to download back those files that have an equivalent in the Apple music library.

Thus, you get a legal (sic!) music service with a developed recommendation system. Is not special offer, but since it's already available on your device, why not give it a try? Moreover, Spotify in Russia does not work without special add-ons - and, according to information as of February of this year, will not work for the next three to five years.

Apple Music also works with Siri - and, on the one hand, it's convenient. On the other hand, maybe she’s not all

Flaws

Numerous complaints that after connecting to iCloud Photo Library and installations new iTunes the music collection becomes confused because the existence of different versions of the same track (and sometimes the service mistakes a Radiohead cover for a Weezer album cover).

The interface is far from ideal - that is why Afisha also writes its own version of “How it works.” In addition, in order to get to the page of the musician you are interested in while listening to a track, you need to click on the three dots next to the track name, click on the name again and only then on the musician’s page. In general, in other applications many things are made much more convenient. For comparison, to turn on music playback in Shuffle mode, you have to go through 14 steps in Apple Music, and only 4 in Spotify.

There are other bugs in the mobile application, such as videos not always playing, a volume control icon appearing in the middle of the screen, problems with turning on iCloud- and not only. From native Apple apps You're expecting a little more stability.

Spotify has a Connect feature that connects all your devices to one network and allows you to use one gadget (like your phone) to control music on another (like your computer). This is wildly convenient, but for some reason Apple used the same word for a social network, but compatibility different devices is still poorly developed.

You can't see what your friends are listening to right in the app.

You can mark the songs you like, but then this list is not available anywhere for viewing.

Apple Music is not available in countries such as Türkiye and Israel.

There are quite monstrous-sounding Russian-sounding playlist names like “Delicacies in trip-hop style,” while Russian-language descriptions of the musicians are often missing.

Sound quality

It was previously reported that the bitrate of music in Apple Music will be 256 kb/s - the information has not been confirmed, but, according to some studies, tracks in Spotify still sound better. However, the difference is insignificant and is really significant only for those readers who have good audio equipment and are seriously planning to use it to listen to music through streaming services. They sound best on Tidal - which, however, does not work in Russia.

What do the musicians think?

Conclusion

Apple hasn't revolutionized or come up with a streaming service that will be used by all, or perhaps even most, listeners around the world.

However, Apple Music now looks especially attractive not only for those who do not need to look for rare music, but also for the Russian user. Apple allowed us to try the most complete and accessible mobile app- from those on this moment free - for streaming music, simultaneously limiting App Store capabilities of applications working with VKontakte. It will be interesting to talk about Apple Music in three months, when the service becomes paid and it will be logical to compare it with offers from Yandex, Google, Zvooq, Deezer and Microsoft (as well as Spotify, Tidal and other services, if they are ever available in Russia) - and find out whether Russian users will be willing to pay for legal content. If yes, this will change something, and Russia will cease to be one of the world's most pirated music markets.

I hope these Apple Music tips and tricks help you get started using the new Apple Music service.

1. Disable automatic renewal subscriptions.

You may not have decided yet whether you will use Apple Music after free three months - or decided that you won't. To prevent Apple from automatically charging your card when the trial period ends, go to your profile using the icon in the upper left corner of the application, select View Apple ID, enter your Apple ID password, go to the Manage Subscriptions menu, select an Apple Music subscription and turn off auto-resume. If you suddenly want to use the service after trial period, you can subscribe to it at any time.

2. Replace the Connect tab with Playlists.

Expected for many social Connect network, built into Apple Music, continues the legacy of Ping - this is still a rather pointless thing, and the tab with it is probably the one you use the least often. If desired, the Connect tab can be changed to a tab with playlists. Go to the settings menu General - Restrictions (you probably already go there to enable playback of songs with obscene language, which is periodically reset due to a bug) and turn off Apple Music Connect, after which you can forget about this social network. At least for a while: in public iOS beta versions 9 this switch is no longer there, and Connect cannot be removed from the application.

3. Make a more detailed selection of your favorite musicians.

It's possible that when you first launched Apple Music, you didn't think twice about choosing your favorite genres and artists, and now the For You tab gives you inaccurate or one-sided recommendations. To fix this, go to your profile using the icon in the upper left corner and select Choose Artists For You. First, you will be asked to select your favorite genres: remember that the most favorite ones can be marked by clicking on them not once, but twice, and unfavorite genres can be removed by holding your finger on them for a few seconds. The performers will appear on the next screen. If there are few of your favorites among them, click on the More Artists button in the lower right, after which mugs with new names will pop up. When your selections reasonably reflect your music preferences, tap Done and Apple Music will begin making more accurate recommendations. To make them better, don’t forget to put hearts on your favorite songs and albums - you can even put hearts on songs from your lockscreen.

4. See lyrics from the extension in the notification center.

To do this you need to install the Musixmatch Lyrics Finder application, launch it and go through initial setup, turning on the display of the extension in the notification center, and then wait for the application extension to appear in the list of extensions. When you add the Musixmatch extension to the Today screen, it will automatically pick up songs playing on Apple Music and spit out the words that are currently being played - almost like karaoke.

5. Use Siri with Apple Music.

According to you Siri team can include any song and album - but they do not have to be in your library, and the application does not have to be running. Through Siri you can quickly add songs to your library, include more similar songs, when you listen to the radio, play songs of a specific genre and period, play randomly and much more. Siri also has Shazam built-in: ask Siri to recognize the song currently playing near you and let voice assistant listen to her a little. If everything goes well, you will be shown this song in Apple Music, and if you want, you can add it to your library.

6. Search your listening history for your favorite songs.

If you often listen to playlists or the radio, then you probably come across great songs whose names you immediately forget. To avoid losing them, open the mini-player below while playing any track, click on the icon with three horizontal lines and dots (to the right of “next track”), then swipe down - this way you will see the playback history. You can also find out which album the track currently playing is from: in the opened mini-player, click on the ellipsis at the bottom right, and then on the top strip with the art, name of the artist and track. You will be taken to the album, which is expanded completely using the Show Complete Album button.

One of convenient functions Apple Music is the ability to share with friends and your followers on in social networks what you listen to. To do this, click on the ellipses button next to the thing you need, select Share and most convenient way. Experience shows that people listen to music much more willingly when you give them a direct link to it, rather than just telling them the name of the album or artist. Unfortunately, you can't subscribe to playlists on Apple Music yet individual users (like Spotify), and therefore The best way sharing your collections means giving direct links to them.

8. Set your alarm clock to a song from your Apple Music library.

In the Alarm tab of the Clock application, enable editing of alarm settings, select Sound, and then Pick a Song in the Songs section. After that, you can find the track you are interested in in the Apple Music library and wake up to any song you want.

If you have or were planning to subscribe to iTunes Match to create a music collection with tracks not purchased from iTunes that can be downloaded from any device, Apple offers annual service- this is included in Apple features Music. This subscription costs 5 times more and to get it, you must turn off automatic renewal of Match before the end of the current subscription. You can do this through managing your Apple Music subscription.

If your Apple ID is a family ID and not a personal ID, and you are not its administrator, you must agree to the notice that every purchase you make will be mandatory sent to the ID owner for approval.

Tell us about your preferences

By clicking 1 or 2 times on the icons with the names of your favorite genres, you can tell the program which tracks you would like to listen to in the future. Filter playlists

By default, the list shows both your playlists and those created by people you follow on Apple Music. You can't store them in folders on iOS, but you can remove other people's playlists from the list of visible ones in your library.

This means that tracks from Apple's library and all other downloads that are not in iCloud Music Library will be available. All of these tracks will be available for playback from all devices, but there is still a 25 thousand track limit for the latter type, as was the case in iTunes Match.

Eddie Cue, Senior Vice President Apple By software recently tweeted that Apple is working to increase this figure up to 100 thousand tracks by the end of 2015.

New music on Apple Music

Through a special catalog you can see all the new iTunes releases - the list is in many ways reminiscent of the first page of the iTunes Store. It's worth checking from time to time if you rarely visit the store after subscribing to Apple Music. Note that not all positions from the Tunes Store are available in the Apple Music library.

The New page has numerous categories, including those dedicated to significant events in the music industry. This works like a news bulletin, but because large quantity The content process may seem time consuming. You can use curated playlists with collections of tracks from famous music publications.

  • Links to the pages of your favorite groups on social networks
