Slow Sync technology. Improved portrait mode

In September 2017, Apple announced the release of three new smartphones: IPhone 8, IPhone 8 Plus and the cutting-edge IPhone X. These three phones can be purchased for $699, $799 and $999, respectively. And although the eighth models look very interesting, most people are focused on the X model, which will go on sale on November 3rd. However, there are many reasons why you should buy the eighth iPhone rather than the iPhone X.

These two smartphones have the same “stuffing”

Functionality is one of the main reasons why you should choose the eighth iPhone over the iPhone X. Their functionality is almost identical, they have very similar technical characteristics. Each of the three phones houses the A11 Bionic neural chip and M11 motion coprocessor. The only difference is how smartphones use their features. iPhone X uses these chips to support the facial recognition function, which is not present in the eighth model.

Fingerprint recognition is a proven feature, but facial recognition is not

Since the release of the iPhone 5S in 2013, Touch ID, or the fingerprint scanner, has changed the way people use their smartphones. Now, using a fingerprint, you could unlock your phone, refuse a complex password, and also pay for goods. Touch ID is a proven feature that works reliably. And at the moment it is unknown how well facial recognition will replace Touch ID.

The eighth iPhone supports both fast and wireless charging, just like the iPhone X

All three new phones support the same wireless charging standards, as well as fast charging. The downside is that you will have to purchase additional accessories if you decide to use one of the new charging methods. Today, Apple offers you to purchase several different charging platforms for wireless charging, as well as a special charger to speed up the process.

The iPhone 8 Plus has almost the same camera as the iPhone X.

If you buy an iPhone in order to take high-quality and beautiful photographs, then the 8 Plus and X models have identical cameras. The eighth iPhone also takes good pictures, but the Plus model has an additional telephoto lens, which significantly improves the quality of the image and allows you not to lose it when zooming in. The only difference between the iPhone 8 Plus and X cameras is that the latter has optical image stabilization for both wide-angle and telephoto lenses, which allows you to take clearer photos, especially in low-light conditions. In the iPhone 8 Plus, this function is present only for the wide-angle lens.

The front cameras of the two models are also identical except for a few additional features.

On paper, the front camera found on the 8 and 8 Plus models is identical to the one found on the iPhone X. All of these cameras have 7 megapixels, an ƒ/2.2 aperture, and can also shoot video in 1080p quality. The only difference is the "exclusive" software features that the iPhone X has: portrait mode for the front camera, Portrait Lighting, which allows you to remove the background from a selfie for a more dramatic effect, and Animoji, a feature that allows you to send to your friends animated emojis that imitate your facial movements and can even speak in your voice.

The eighth iPhone doesn't have the dreaded bar at the top of the screen

The camera is the only place where the iPhone X's continuous display, which stretches from edge to edge in all directions, is interrupted. The resulting stripe looks truly terrible. Fortunately, there is no such strip on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

iPhone X is more expensive than iPhone 8

The iPhone 8 starts at $700, while the larger 8 Plus model will cost at least $800. As for the iPhone X, it will cost you at least a thousand dollars. Then it's simple math: you can save from 200 to 300 dollars if you buy an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus, which are also new and modern.

If you are replacing the seventh iPhone with the eighth, your covers and cases will fit

The sizes of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are almost identical to the sizes of the previous models in the line. New phones are a little heavier, so they differ slightly in height, length and depth. However, each difference is less than one millimeter, which means that your old cases will fit the new phones. The dimensions of the iPhone X are completely different from the sizes of previous models, so your cases will not fit it, and this is another cost, given the considerable cost of the device itself.

You can find the eighth iPhone on sale

Considering the fact that absolutely everyone is focused on the iPhone X, you can easily find and purchase the eighth model. At the same time, the iPhone X is in huge demand, which Apple is not always able to satisfy, so many people will wait weeks after the release of the smartphone to get it, while you are already enjoying your brand new iPhone 8. which has all the main advantages of the iPhone X, but is cheaper.

I noticed a very interesting thing. During two days of active use of the new eights, I showed them to many friends. And the scenario was always the same - everyone snatches the 8 Plus out of my hands, but it remains unattended. Makes me wonder... What did Apple do so cool in the new generation? We'll figure it out iPhone 8 Plus review.

Bundling or Apple's boundless greed

The box is now painted in the color of the iPhone inside. This is, of course, great, but the company would be better off spending the money to put a Lightning to USB C cable inside, which, by the way, costs 2 thousand rubles separately. Using it, we could at least connect the new iPhone to a MacBook, or to another modern laptop. Fortunately, USB C is now being actively implemented by everyone. By the way, a wide range of original iPhones, from 4S to X, is presented on the apple-original website, at low prices!

But no! Instead, the Cupertino team left the outdated 1-amp charger. From the master's shoulder, so to speak.

In addition, inside are regular wired EarPods with a Lightning plug, an adapter from it to a mini-jack and... stickers. There is nothing else interesting. You can see for yourself by watching my unboxing.

Design - the same thing for four years

The new plus makes several impressions. Here are the key ones.

Lord, how healthy he is!

The iPhone 8 Plus is the worst example of a smartphone with a 5.5-inch screen. Why did I raise this topic again, since this was already clear with the example of the 6 Plus? Because this perfectly demonstrates the manufacturer’s relationship with its fans: “everything is for their sake, so that they feel good, so that each new generation is more comfortable than the previous one.” Yeah!

The market is full of smartphones with the same screen, but in a more compact body. Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi have been particularly successful in this.

A smartphone is inconvenient anytime, anywhere. It barely fits into the front pants pocket. If you still shoved it there, got into the car and drove off, God forbid, they will call you. It’s simply impossible to take the device out of your pocket while moving and not dig it into a pole.

However, a large display is truly a boon. Surfing the Web, scrolling through your Instagram feed, typing on a normal keyboard - all this is much more convenient to do than on. When I was using the latter, I found myself thinking that I needed to stop and concentrate in order to type without errors. Plus allows you to use it in a more relaxed way.

How to show off now?

For the fourth year in a row, the same front panel. Nothing, literally nothing new.

Oh yes! Apple now claims the glass is 50 percent stronger. I didn't check this, but I'm sure one of you will do it sooner or later.

But I tested the device for something else - for scratch resistance, and the new iPhone failed the test.

In just a week and a half of use, scratches appeared on both the display and the back cover. This is completely out of the question!

All the changes are at the back - now we don’t have smoothly polished metal, but tempered glass. But with an oleophobic coating, which is of very high quality.

There is no exact information on the type of glass. They say this is the latest generation of Gorilla Glass, and this, if anything, is the fifth version.

Such a panel was installed at the back for one single purpose. The nosebleed smartphone needed at least some innovation, so it was decided to place wireless charging inside. However, this cannot be called an innovation, because “skis” have been actively using this technology in their flagships for four years now.

Since a special coil is used under glass for this purpose, the battery had to be reduced in size. We write down 225 mAh as a loss (the 7 Plus had 2900 mAh, but now it’s 2675).

He's never black!

Have you looked at the “ass”? We have already realized that black iPhones from the current line are no longer available. Now we have space gray or Space Gray. Actually, as it was before.

Personally, I don't like it. The back panel looks okay, but it's not exactly a "wow" thing.

Things are even worse with other colors. Look at the golden one, the back of which is white in the light, but is “rusty” indoors?

The silver version is the most boring. For conservatives and those who are not at all embarrassed by the huge frames on the sides of the screen.

It slides, but not like that

One of the main tactile-visual iPhone 8 Plus specifications— it’s still slippery, but it’s not comparable to its metal predecessor (not Jet Black). The glass on the back definitely adds a touch of grip. Well, how? Not much, 30-40 percent.

However, due to its large size, dropping the smartphone on the floor and now saying goodbye to both glasses is still a piece of cake. So purchasing a cover is strictly required.

If anything, iFixit has already disassembled the new product and gave it 6 out of 10 points on the maintainability scale. This means that if something happens, repairing a new product will be more difficult than the same seven (7 points).

Plays louder

As in its predecessor, the sound comes from two speakers at once: from the main one at the bottom and the speaker at the top. The latter sounds quieter, but adds good stereo.

The new Plus plays louder than the old one. By 25% according to official statements. I’ll check this later in a separate review, where I’ll compare both generations of devices, but for now we’ll take Apple’s word for it.

The sound itself is of high quality and loud, not even above average, but rather closer to the maximum of what I have heard. And of course, the 8 Plus is a little louder. Another argument in favor of buying its older brother.

Little things

The antenna frames are now very short and visible only at the ends. If anything, the base of the case is made of 7000-series aluminum (it doesn’t bend, that is), and Apple also talks about some kind of “steel base.” Apparently it's inside the case.

The physical buttons are made very carefully and do not wobble in their grooves. Not a single manufacturer of Android smartphones pays attention to this - everything rattles like a rattle. But not the iPhone.

Don't worry about the protruding camera. Here we have sapphire glass, so it will be extremely difficult to scratch the lenses.

The display is nothing new. Practically...

There's nothing new about the iPhone 8 Plus screen. Unless they added support for True Tone technology. The bottom line is that a special sensor next to the front camera monitors the ambient light and adjusts the temperature of the screen colors to a specific situation. In short, the screen becomes either very yellow (in a room with low lighting) or slightly yellowish (in bright sun).

And no, this is not Night Shift. This setting works separately. If, of course, you activate it.

Compared the screens of the iPhone 8 Plus and . That's what came out of it.

If you compare it head-on, it becomes obvious that the 8 Plus display renders colors a little more pleasantly. The youngest ones are sharper and have a slight green tint.

A strong deviation along the diagonal axis shows that this is a very ordinary IPS matrix. Yes, it’s high quality, no doubt about it, but it still floats like a whitish fog. This is not AMOLED.

Apple tirelessly claims that the screen here is “Retina HD”, that it is new and all redesigned, that it supports the extended P3 color gamut and all that, but in reality the display easily looks like someone’s Optic AMOLED.

What's new in hardware?

Over the ten-year history of the iPhone, Apple has accustomed consumers to the fact that after the announcement of a major version of smartphones, a continuation of the “S” line comes out. Therefore, this year many were waiting for the 7S model. But contrary to established tradition, the Cupertino team immediately showed the iPhone 8. What is the new product and has the device deservedly skipped a whole generation?

The new product was shown on September 12 at the Apple presentation at the Steve Jobs Theater. A few days later, pre-order of the device became available, and on September 22, sales began in some “first wave” countries. Russia entered the second echelon and the smartphone appeared on our shelves a week later: September 29.

Technical characteristics of iPhone 8

The characteristics of the iPhone 8 have improved significantly. It received the Apple A11 Bionic processor. In it, 4 cores are energy efficient, and the other 2 are productive. The new controller ensures a smooth transition between them when necessary. It is important that the engineers managed not to reduce autonomy. By the way, the A11 Bionic chip is designed to work with neural networks. This means the device will perform tasks more intelligently in many use cases.

  • Display: 4.7-inch IPS with a resolution of 1334x750, PPI - 326
  • Processor: Apple A11 Bionic
  • Cameras: 12 MP main, f/1.8; 7 MP front
  • Permanent memory: 64 or 256 GB
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Battery: 1821 mAh
  • Interfaces: Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC
  • OS: iOS 11
  • Weight: 148 g
  • Dimensions (WxHxD): 67.3 x 138.4 x 7.3 mm

Appearance

The new product did not receive anything fundamentally new in its design. It's still the same look and feel of the iPhone 6 from 2014. The layout of the elements is the same: at the front there is a display, a Home button and sensors, and at the back there is a camera and flash. The large frames on the front have also not gone away; after all, the “eight” is not at all similar to the iPhone X.

For lovers of fashionable framelessness, this will be a huge minus. But in terms of practicality, this solution gives the new product a few points of advantage, since in the event of a fall, the risk of the display collapsing is slightly less. The iPhone 8 did not receive an aluminum case; now only the side frame is made of metal, and there are glass panels on the front and back. At the same time, it was possible to maintain protection from water and dust according to the IP67 standard.

This was probably done for the convenient introduction of wireless charging, which also debuted in the new product. But now the smartphone inevitably needs to be hidden in a case, otherwise expensive repairs cannot be avoided. In addition, Apple claims that the glass on the back panel is very durable (and expensive) and should not break. Practice shows that behind these words there is more deceit than real benefit.

Still, the iPhone 7, made of brushed aluminum 7000 series, calmly withstood even serious falls on an uneven surface. And if you don’t take into account the Jet Black version of the smartphone, scratching the device was not so easy. The glass in the iPhone 8 behaves fundamentally differently and is likely to show a large number of traces of use.

Many may also be upset by the lack of a MiniJack for headphones. The included headset is connected via a lightning connector. There are two ways to get out of the situation: use an adapter or Bluetooth headphones.

Display

The display also remains unchanged for the fourth year: the same 4.7-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 1334x750. The dot density is 326 PPI. The time-tested screen is still a kind of standard in the Apple world. It has excellent viewing angles, natural color reproduction and pleasant contrast. And unlike OLED technology, there is no unpleasant pixel burn-in effect.

But one cannot help but blame Apple for still using a display with such a low resolution. Most competitors have been using Full HD or even QHD matrices for a long time. And these are not just marketing ploys, since the difference between the Retina display in the iPhone 8 and the Full HD matrix in another top-end smartphone is noticeable.

Among the innovations, the TrueTone function is notable. Previously, it was used only in expensive iPad Pro tablets, but now this feature has appeared on the iPhone. The essence of its work is to automatically adjust the white balance depending on the lighting. If we look at typical usage scenarios, TrueTone will make the displays “cooler” in bright daylight and go into warm colors in the room.

This technology should not be confused with another tool - Night Shift. It changes the display temperature based on the time of day rather than the lighting. Although both functions make the screen readability more pleasant and the eyes less tired.

Performance and Memory

Another extremely important feature of the iPhone 8 was the abandonment of PowerVR graphics accelerators. The iPhone 8 has a 3-core processor of its own production. The company claims that the new chip is up to 30% faster than its predecessor.

In fact, the smartphone shows approximately the same results as last year's model. All applications and games work flawlessly: there are no stutters or fps drops. In this regard, the smartphone is ahead of many competitors, and the low screen resolution played an important role in this.

In terms of memory, everything is also excellent. There are 2 permanent storage options to choose from: 64 or 256 GB, no microSD slot. The RAM size is 2 GB. The values are quite acceptable and should be enough for most tasks.

Cameras

The main camera remains largely unchanged. There are the same 12 MP cameras with f/1.8 aperture, but a faster matrix and a new filter have been introduced. The gadget works with HDR enabled by default. This was probably done so that the resulting images, even without processing, would look more saturated. This is exactly how the cameras in Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones work.

Although, unlike its competitors, the gadget from Cupertino produces natural colors and does not bother with over-sharping. During the day, the resulting photos are at an excellent level, at night things are a little worse, but the result is still acceptable. We can confidently note the improvement in the quality of pictures in poor light compared to the iPhone 7. Unfortunately, the new product does not receive support for the “Portrait” mode, which is available in the Plus version.

Among the minor improvements, it is worth noting the improved flash. Now, when shooting in the dark, the diodes adjust the intensity and the background is not darkened, but remains as light as the main subject.

Videography has also received noticeable innovations. iPhone 8 is capable of shooting 4K videos at 24, 30 or 60 fps, and recording at 240 fps has become available in Full HD mode. Stabilization is present, and the device is among the best in video quality.

System

Separately, it is worth considering the operation of the operating system. iOS 11 works well, but there are rare animation jitters or errors with font display. In this regard, the iPhone 8 is not unique; almost all Apple smartphones began to perform worse after updating to version 11 of the system. But new products always receive bug fixes and, probably, the G8 will function more smoothly.

Among the nice things about iOS 11 is the widespread adoption of machine learning. The company talks about the work of neural networks in Siri, the camera and some other elements of the system. Due to the A11 Bionic processor, tailored for such tasks, such functionality will develop more and more over time.

AR

Apple places great emphasis on augmented reality technology. Along with iOS 11, ARKit was introduced, with which developers can create various software in this area. There are already a huge number of games and applications available that use AR. For example, you can now easily measure distance, height, throw a ball into a virtual hoop, or control your army, which will fight right in the room.

The potential of the technology has not yet been revealed, so soon the App Store will be filled with interesting augmented reality content. To prove this conclusion, we note that after the announcement of ARKit, Google began developing its own technology and so far the “good corporation” has not been able to demonstrate interesting results.

Autonomy and battery

iPhone 8 has a 1821 mAh battery. By the standards of devices from the Android world, this is just pennies. But in reality, a smartphone can work all day from morning to evening without any problems. Based on the numbers, the following results are obtained:

  • Talk time: 14 hours
  • Music listening time: 40 hours
  • Surfing the Internet: 12 hours
  • Video playback: 13 hours

The measurements were carried out under ideal conditions, so in reality you should expect slightly lower values. In general, the new product works approximately like the iPhone 7.

But the nice thing is that Apple has finally introduced wireless and fast charging into its device. But Cupertino, in their favorite manner, made the functions additional and did not include the required accessories in the delivery package. To use fast charging, you need to buy a MacBook power plug and a Lightning to USB-C cable from the official store. The kit will cost almost 7 thousand rubles.

The same situation applies to wireless technology. Although Apple used the well-known Qi standard, the corresponding docking station must be purchased separately. The average cost of such a device is 2 thousand rubles. In total, to unlock all the functionality of the iPhone 8, you need to spend an additional 9 thousand rubles.

We noted the bad, now about the good. With fast charging, the smartphone can be charged 50% in 30 minutes, and 100% charged in about 75 minutes. Through the Qi standard, everything happens a little slower and as a result, the gadget is fully charged in 3-4 hours. But in this case, it is the elimination of wires that is important, rather than the speed of operation.

iPhone 8 price

In Russia, iPhone 8 is sold at a price of 56,990 rubles for the 64 GB version and 68,990 rubles for the 256 GB model. Prices are high, especially compared to tax-free states in the US, where the new product sells for $699 and $849. Therefore, when buying a smartphone abroad, you can save a lot of money.

1. Taking pictures without using the touch screen

Just call Siri with a long touch on the Home button and ask her to turn on the camera. To take a photo, press any volume button on your smartphone or headphones.

2. Emergency reboot

In those rare cases when the iPhone freezes or you need to free up the device's RAM, an emergency reboot will help. Just hold down the Home button and the Lock button for 10 seconds.

3. Triple press the Home button

Go to the "Accessibility" item in the main iPhone settings. Scroll down to the “Keyboard Shortcuts” tab - a list of functions will open in front of you. Triple-clicking the Home button launches VoiceOver, color inversion (useful for reading), some display settings, on-screen zoom, and Switch Control or AssistiveTouch.

To turn on the magnifying glass by triple-clicking the Home button, simply select the appropriate item in “Universal Access.”

4. Double tap the Home button sensor

Perhaps all iPhone users know that double-clicking the mechanical Home button opens the application selection window. But not everyone is aware that double tapping the button sensor “lowers” the screen a little, allowing owners of large smartphones to easily reach the top icons.

5. Using 3D Touch

If you have an iPhone 6s or later, using 3D Touch can make your life a lot easier and save time. This technology will speed up movement between applications, make typing more convenient and...

6. Reassigning volume buttons

The iPhone has two volume settings: the first is for calls and notifications, the second is for music and applications. Turning off the “Change with buttons” toggle switch in the sound settings will fix the ringer volume in its current position and transfer control of music and applications exclusively to the side buttons.

Work with text

7. Undo last action

Just shake your smartphone, and iOS will offer to undo the last action, be it typing, pasting or, conversely, deleting text.

8. Quickly enter a domain

In cases where the keyboard prompts you to quickly enter domain.com, hold your finger on this button. A list of popular domains will open in front of you, where you can quickly switch to cherished.ru.

9. Removing the microphone icon from the keyboard

The microphone icon between the space bar and the language change button is intended for voice text input. You can remove the icon by moving the “Enable dictation” slider to the inactive position in the keyboard settings.

10. Listening to the text

iOS supports Screen Speak. To enable it, activate the slider in the speech settings: “Settings” → “General” → “Universal Access”. To have iPhone speak text on the screen, swipe down with two fingers in any app.

Safety

11. Create a letter password for unlocking

If you don't trust four- or six-digit passwords and don't like Touch ID technology, you can set a long one.

Go to the password code settings and select “Change password code”. The system will require you to enter the old combination first, and then the new one. On the screen for entering a new password, click on “Passcode Options” and select an acceptable option.

12. Improve Touch ID accuracy

To help iPhone recognize you more confidently and quickly, create multiple prints of the same finger.

13. Create hidden photos

If you take photos in the standard camera application, they will be saved in the library. To protect a photo with a password, you need to resort to a trick. Turn off photo export and set a password in the Notes app settings. To take a secret photo, go to create a new note and tap on the camera icon. Once the photo is taken, click on "Export" and select "Lock Note."

14. Guided access

We often give our smartphone into the wrong hands to “pass a level in a game,” “read an article,” or “watch a video on YouTube.” If you don't trust who will be using your iPhone, turn on Guided Access in Settings: General → Accessibility → Guided Access.

When handing over an iPhone to someone, triple-click the Home button to turn on Guided Access, and the person will only be able to use the open app.

Siri

15. “Whose iPhone is this?”

If you find a lost iPhone, Siri can help you contact its owner without entering a password. Ask her “Whose iPhone is this?” or “Who owns this iPhone?”, and a window will open in front of you with the name of the owner of the gadget.

So that the person who finds your iPhone can find you in this way, go to Siri settings and in the “Data” tab, assign a contact with information about yourself.

16. Male Siri voice

Not everyone knows, but our faithful electronic assistant can speak in a pleasant male voice. This option is available in Siri settings.

Calls

17. Calling the last number dialed

To repeat the last call, it is not necessary to go to the “Recent” tab. Click on the green handset on the screen with keys, and the iPhone will offer to call back the last number dialed.

18. Quick access to favorite contacts

To quickly dial important numbers, add them to the Favorites tab in the standard Phone application. Swipe right on the desktop to go to the widget panel. Scroll down and click “Edit”, and then tap on the plus sign next to the “Favorites” widget. Now you can call your loved ones faster and even when the screen is locked.

19. Detection of an incoming call in headphones

Answering calls using headphones is sometimes much easier than reaching for your phone. To find out who is calling you without taking your iPhone out of your pocket, turn on the “Call Announcements” toggle switch in your phone settings.

Messages

20. Deleting old messages

Deleting irrelevant messages will help bring order to your correspondence and free up precious megabytes of memory. Find the “Leave messages” item in the settings and set the required time after which the messages will be deleted.

21. Saving traffic in “Messages”

To avoid wasting traffic on heavy attachments, turn on low quality mode in your message settings.

22. Time of sending messages

One of the non-obvious functions of “Messages” is viewing the exact time of sending. Just swipe from the right side of the screen.

Alarm

23. Setting up a call from Apple Music

The ability to set your favorite song as an alarm is not a trick, but a basic iPhone feature that many people don't know about. When creating a new alarm, click on the Sound tab. Rewind the list to the very beginning, before the standard ringtones, find a panel with familiar names and click on “Select song”.

24. Snooze alarm

To reschedule the alarm to a later time, you don’t have to look for the corresponding button on the screen. Press any side button and iPhone wakes you up again in nine minutes.

This interval was not chosen by chance: old mechanical alarm clocks could not count exactly 600 seconds. They did not take into account the current minute and began counting nine minutes from the next one.

Safari

25. Search by word on a page

Enter the desired word in the address bar. In the drop-down menu under the search engine suggestions, select “On this page.”

26. Recently closed tabs

Go to the screen that shows previews of open pages, and hold your finger on the “+” button. A list of recently closed tabs will open in front of you. This is useful if you accidentally closed a long-open page that is difficult to find in your browser history.

27. Convert a Safari page to a PDF file

28. Opening links in the background

Other basic applications and services

29. Spotlight as a converter

Swiping down on any iPhone screen opens Spotlight. Its use significantly reduces the time spent searching for something on a smartphone. Spotlight provides results from many applications: it will help you find the desired episode of a podcast, a message based on a keyword, or a person on Twitter. Also, a standard search engine can act as a converter. Just search for "1 usd" or "15 inches in cm".

30. Convert slow motion video to regular video

If you've been playing around with the slow motion feature and accidentally shot something in slow motion that would look better at natural speed, it's easy to bring the video to the original tempo without additional applications. Open the video editing section and adjust the values on the speed bar. This strip is located above the timing field, where we usually cut the videos.

Level 31

The compass in the basic application is practically useless in the city. But if you swipe the screen to the left, you can get a level - an indispensable device for repair and installation.

32. Optimizing Apple Music storage

Turn on Storage Optimization in Music Settings and iPhone will automatically delete songs you rarely listen to. This will only happen when the device’s memory runs out.

To set the minimum amount of music that will not be deleted from iPhone, you can set the storage size.

33. Geolocation reminders

Task managers in the App Store offer a lot of functions, but standard “Reminders” are also capable of a lot. For example, a basic application can remind you to buy milk not only at 15:00, but also when you visit the store. To enable this function, select “Remind me by location” and find the desired geolocation in the task settings.

34. Turn on power saving mode

If your iPhone has more than 20% charge left, but the nearest outlet is still very far away, it makes sense to switch to power saving mode. To enable the mode, just ask Siri about it or find the corresponding item in the battery settings. In these settings, you can also find a list of the most energy-consuming applications and close them in a timely manner.

35. Silent charging connection

You can avoid vibration when connecting the charger to your iPhone by opening the Camera app before connecting the Lightning cable. The device will begin to charge, and your light-sleeping relatives will not be awakened by a sudden sound.

The upgrades are all on the inside. Here are the best new features of the iPhone 8 and .

1. New glass body

At first glance, the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models look the same as last year's, but now have a glass body that Apple calls the most durable of any smartphone. The side frames are still made of stainless steel, which separates the two glass panels.

The colors have also changed a bit. The new models are only available in Space Grey, Silver and Gold. Rose Gold and Jet Black have been removed. Space Gray looks darker than the previous version, and Gold has more of a copper tone.

2. ProcessorA11 Bionic

The heart of the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus is the new A11 Bionic processor, which can be called the biggest update to the models. The new processor consists of six cores, two of which work at full power, and four are energy-saving. This processor is not only faster than the Galaxy S8, it even outperforms some MacBook Pros! Full power cores are 25% faster than A10 Fusion cores, and energy efficient cores are 70% faster.

In addition, Apple has developed its own graphics processor. It has three cores and is 30% faster than the A10 Fusion.

A11 Bionic was developed for machine learning and augmented reality. New games and apps using augmented reality should just fly on the new iPhone models.

3. True Tone

True Tone is one of the best features on the iPad Pro, and now it's available on the new iPhones. True Tone technology automatically changes the screen brightness based on the ambient light level.

4. Improved cameras

The iPhone has the best cameras in the entire smartphone market, and they get even better every time. This also applies to iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone 8 still has one main camera, while the 8 Plus has a dual camera. On the iPhone 8, Apple added a better sensor and color filter.

The A11 Bionic processor uses artificial intelligence to optimize photos in real time or even before they are taken.

Both models retain the main 12MP camera with a 1.8f aperture, wide angle and optical image stabilization. The iPhone 8 Plus also has a telephoto lens with an f2.4 aperture.

Both phones now feature a Quad LED True Tone flash that better illuminates the subject and suppresses noise.

5. Portrait mode is better

The best feature of the iPhone 7 Plus just got even better on the iPhone 8 Plus. In portrait shots, details are sharper and background blur is more natural. Most importantly, you'll be able to take better photos in dimly lit environments.

6. Portrait light mode

Portrait Light Mode is a new feature in Portrait Mode. You can now add lighting effects to portrait photos. To do this, you just need to focus on the object and choose an effect from twelve options. These include natural light, studio light, stage light, etc. Stage light darkens the entire background, but does not affect the subject.

The effect can be selected before shooting or applied to a finished photo. The feature is only available on the main camera of the 8 Plus, but on both cameras of the iPhone X.

7. 4 K from 60 fps and slow motion at 1080p

The new models can finally shoot 4K video at 60fps. This isn't a feature you'll use every day, but if you need to record fast-moving subjects (like kids or pets), 4K at 60fps will do the trick.

In addition, the slow motion mode has also become better. Now you can shoot in HD 1080p resolution at 240 fps.

8. Wireless charging

Thanks to its glass body, iPhone 8 supports wireless charging. And this time Apple didn’t come up with something of its own, and you will be able to charge the new models with any Qi-standard device. In the future, Apple will sell Belkin and Mophie accessories in its stores.

However, Apple announced the release of its own accessory that can simultaneously charge iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods.

Memory options and price

The 32GB storage option is no longer available. New models will be sold with 64GB or 256GB of memory. The iPhone 8 costs $699 and $849, and the iPhone 8 Plus costs $799 and $949. You can order new models from September 15, and they will appear in stores on September 22.
