How to remove a program in Windows. How to remove a program in Windows How to remove a program from a Windows 8 computer

When you install an app on Windows 8, you can't download it from a website like you can with desktop programs.

All of them are installed from the Windows Store. This makes it easier to find, install and update your applications. The latest updates are installed automatically, although you can disable the automatic update feature if you wish.

To do this, in the Store charms, open the Settings option and click in the top right corner of the App Updates screen. On the settings page that appears, you can manage automatic application updates.

Attention. If you're running Windows 8.1 and manage your computers through Windows Server, you can deploy, update, and remove applications and desktop programs using AppLocker. AppLocker is not available on Windows RT.

As usual, you can install the software on your computer using a CD or DVD with a software installer, or by running it from a flash drive or other external drive through Explorer. You can't install desktop software on a computer running Windows RT because of fundamental differences in the windows experience in Windows 8.1 between PCs and Windows RT devices. Trying to install a desktop program on Windows RT gives an error.

Advice. Always select advanced options when installing software because many software packages try to install third-party toolbars and utilities that you don't need.

To uninstall programs in Windows 8, you need to go to the "Programs and Features" section from the Control Panel. Here you will find all the desktop software installed on your computer. To sort and organize your programs, you can use column headings (title, publisher, etc.). Programs can be arranged, for example, by date and you can see recently installed software. To do this, click the column headings (title, publisher, etc.) once and arrange the programs in ascending or descending order (two mouse clicks).

To remove an app (and software installed on your computer) from the Start screen, right-click (tap and hold) the app and select Remove from App Tray.

Clue. You can delete several applications at once. To do this, simply mark them and click "Delete". This will remove all applications at once.

If you delete an application, it is deleted immediately. If you delete a desktop program, you will be redirected to the Programs and Features page, where you will have to select and delete the desired program.

Attention. The application you are uninstalling may additionally ask if you want to remove this application from your PC.

This usually happens if you are using a PC with a Microsoft account and have installed this application on more than one computer.

Checking the box removes the application only from this PC, but leaves it on your other devices. Unchecked will remove the application on all PCs with this Microsoft account.

Start Screen is a completely new way to work with Windows. Which creates its own problems and new habits. Some people will love and enjoy it, others will prefer to use a regular desktop. In Windows 8, it's much easier to restore your desktop than you might think, and with the exception of the Start Menu, all functionality from previous versions of Windows remains unchanged.

Uninstalling programs in Windows 8 is done using the “Programs and Features” menu, which is available as a separate item in the “Control Panel” of the system. To get to the component manager, go to the Metro interface. To enter tiled mode from the desktop, move your mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen and press the left key to display a menu. Using the keyboard, start typing the name "Programs and Features". On the left side of the window, in the list of results obtained, select the appropriate application using the Enter button or the mouse pointer. If no result appears, select Options from the list of categories under the search bar on the right side of the screen.

A new window will display an interface that allows you to manage the software installed on your computer. This list displays all applications installed on the system. Use the slider on the right side of the window to move through the list to select the desired item. If you want to remove a program, right-click on its name and then select “Delete”. Confirm the operation and click “Ok” after it is completed. When the notification appears, restart your computer to apply the changes.

You can also use the Change/Remove button at the top of the Programs and Features window to remove the selected program.

If you want to remove a program from the Metro tiled interface, click on the bottom left corner of the Windows screen again. After that, find unnecessary programs in the proposed list of applications. You can also search the list by starting to type the name of the application you don't need. If there are no search results, double-check that the program name is correct. Make sure that the "Applications" category is selected under the search bar so that the system scan is completed successfully.

You can also simply remove the program from the Metro interface without completely deleting it. To do this, click on the “Unpin from Start Screen” button after selecting the unnecessary application icon with the right mouse button.

Right-click on the unnecessary program. A menu will appear at the bottom of the system window, allowing you to select possible action options. Click on the “Delete” button and then confirm the operation. The removal of the program is complete and you will no longer be able to use it on the system.

Anyone who previously used only the “seven” may have difficulties uninstalling programs. In the new system, Microsoft has slightly changed the algorithm for cleaning the system from programs that have become unnecessary. Remember that some applications are system ones; removing them can negatively affect the operation of your PC. When partitioning a hard drive, it is best to place all system files in a separate part of it, and store office applications, games and music in another folder.

Windows 8 differs from the “seven” in the absence of the Start menu. For new users this is often not very convenient. They also find it strange to see numerous Metro apps on the screen.

When unnecessary applications are removed, this allows you to free up additional space on your hard drive for your favorite files, photos, games, videos. Today's users install many programs on their computer, but not all of them are needed for work or study or other activities. Some are installed as needed, while others are installed independently, hidden from the user. In any case, you need to know by heart how to uninstall a software product on your operating system. Let's take a closer look at how to remove a program in Windows 7, 8, 10 and analyze the option with each system in turn so as not to mix them together.

In general, the easiest way to remove an application from your computer is to use the built-in uninstaller. This is a file that is in the folder with the installed program and allows you to remove it without using Windows or third-party tools.

The process on Windows 7 looks very simple and does not require any skills. In more detail it looks like this:

Speaking about deleting from the “eight”, we can say that there is nothing special in comparison with the previous instructions. You can just use "Start", find "Programs and Features" and follow the same instructions as for Windows 7.

Again, if you wish, you can use third-party programs, the list of which we have already indicated.

On Windows 10, the process looks a little different, but with the same meaning. Let's look at it step by step:

The user is happy when he manages to install a new program on his computer for the first time, for example, install Skype. There is an even greater feeling of happiness when the user is able to remove programs from a Windows 8 computer for the first time.

Programs are removed from the computer for various reasons, for example when:

  • There is a suspicion that something stopped working on the computer after installing some program. For example, after installing the Windows player, the function keys on the laptop stopped working,
  • you need to update one or another program. In this case, first remove the old version of the program from the computer, and then download it, preferably from the official website, and install the new version of the program. This is sometimes done, for example, with a browser.

How to remove programs from a Windows 8 computer

Let's look at a universal way to remove programs. To do this you should go. To find it, you can type “control panel” in the Windows 8 search bar without quotes and then follow the found link in the search results.

In the Control Panel, go to “Programs”, and then to “Programs and Features”. Here you will see a list of installed programs in Windows 8 (1 in Fig. 1, you can click on the picture to enlarge):

You can only remove a program if you know exactly what functions it performs.

Otherwise, you can “rashly” remove system programs, after which, for example, the sound on the computer will disappear or the video will stop playing.

For example, let's take the Opera browser as a program to be removed.

3 in Fig. 1 – check the box next to the program that needs to be removed,

4 in Fig. 1 – click the “Delete” button.

A warning window will appear asking “Are you sure you want to remove Opera from your system?” Before deleting, the user is always asked to answer the question whether he really wants to delete the selected program.

Rice. 2. You can remove Opera from a Windows 8 computer

Check the checkboxes next to user data (Fig. 3). It is possible that you need to uncheck the boxes next to “Delete bookmarks, contacts and notes” and opposite “Delete passwords and certificates”. If you uncheck the boxes, bookmarks and passwords will NOT be deleted.

After checking the checkboxes, click the “Delete” button.

The Opera browser will be removed.

A window with a green “Download Now” button will immediately appear. If you wish, you can immediately, as they say, without leaving the checkout, reinstall the Opera browser from the official website:
