Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the first in the world to be MOBILE HDRPREMIUM TM certified, which means they guarantee natural tones and colors when viewing content of any quality. Types of games - only the best with bright colors, excellent graphic design and Game Pack support.
  • security and data security: the smartphone was developed using Samsung Knox, a security platform used in the defense sector. In addition, there is support biometric technologies, which the user can choose at his discretion, for example, iris scanners, fingerprints, facial recognition system.

Along with the original functions, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ also have the qualities familiar to the Samsung Galaxy series. This includes water and dust protection (IP68), support for cards up to 256 GB (MicroSD), fast wireless charging, and multitasking.

New principles of interaction with a mobile device

Straight iPhone competitor 8 is a Samsung S8, Samsung developers equipped the device with an original intelligent assistant Bixby. With its help, the user can do much more. Having Bixby is a guarantee easy access to new device functions and the ability to use available applications and services using voice, text commands or touch screen. Voice control can be used while working with the camera, contact list, messages, gallery and settings. In the near future, it is planned to expand this list with new developments. Another benefit of Bixby is its understanding of context, which means it can provide personalized assistance based on the subscriber's interests and location. Bixby also includes image recognition technology, which means you can shop nearby, search for images, and get information about them. In the future, the Bixby ecosystem should unite everything available applications, devices and services, and thus make the daily life of users even easier. In Russia, announcements are constantly being made about expanding the functionality and general availability of Bixby services.

Samsung mobile devices: their ecosystem

For the user Galaxy selection S8 and S8+ is equivalent to gaining access to a variety of services and products, using full force networking opportunities and the potential of new smartphones. For example, one of original functions devices of the presented models support Gear VR (joystick and upgraded glasses virtual reality). The joystick can be controlled with one hand, thanks to which movements are processed more efficiently. Also, smartphones of the presented models can be connected to a high-quality Gear 360 camera (its main characteristic is compactness) and conduct video broadcasts in online mode, create 15-megapixel photos and panoramic video footage in 4K format.
Galaxy S8 and S8+ fully perform the functions desktop computer, for this there is Samsung docking station DeX. Using computing power smartphones, it thus increases user productivity. WITH using Samsung DeX can display smartphone data on big screen and edit them.

Improved support Samsung Health. This is one of the most common Samsung services. Today, 11 million people use it daily (the total audience is 60 million users). The essence of the application is planning and creating an individual training schedule, integration into social networks, as well as the ability to access telemedicine (so far only in the USA).

The ability to quickly make various types of payments via Galaxy S8 and S8+ guarantees payment service Samsung Pay. This app turns your smartphone into a digital wallet that you can use just like a debit or credit card. Now Samsung service Pay is supported by 870 banking institutions worldwide. The number of transactions performed in it has already reached 240 million.

The S8 and S8+ smartphones are equipped with high-performance headphones, characterized by high-quality sound transmission, excellent noise reduction (thanks to a comfortable hybrid fit) and ease of use (the cord has a metallic braid to prevent tangling of the wire).

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will appear in the domestic space towards the end of April. A variety of colors are expected for these smartphones, in particular Yellow topaz, Black Diamond, Mystical Amethyst. The price starts from 54,990 rubles (S8) and from 59,990 rubles (S8+).

In case of prepayment, valuable incentive gifts are provided: free shipping even before the start of sales and the Gear 360 camera.

Does the iPhone 7 seem not perfect enough? There is a way out, because it has entered the Russian market new flagship LG company. What is he like, the only one at the moment Galaxy competitor S8?

LG G6 is a smartphone that is very unlucky. It went on sale at the same time as the flagship Samsung– , automatically finding yourself in the shadow of a competitor. I must say, undeservedly. After reading the article to the end, you will understand why.

When you pick up the LG G6, you realize that you're holding an expensive thing in your hands: a weighty block of glass and metal that doesn't try to appear thinner than it actually is. In general, the G6 was not created to show off. It's reliable workhorse, which is not scary to hold in your hands. The smartphone evokes a feeling of reliability and durability. And there are a number of reasons for this.

Let's start with the features of the smartphone.

Impact resistance

You can drop LG's new product without worrying about the consequences. Of course, this does not mean that you need to drop it on purpose in an attempt to break it, but it can withstand accidental falls without consequences. But the G6's MIL-STD 810G certification makes you want to drop your smartphone and check whether it really doesn't break.

In addition to the fact that the smartphone is practically “indestructible”, it is also difficult to drown it: protection against water and dust according to the IP68 standard is also provided in the device.

Cameras

No smartphone on the market can boast such an approach to a dual camera module. The main camera in the LG G6 takes pictures like in any other smartphone, and the second camera is wide-angle, it captures much more than everyone is used to. What's special, you ask? Do you remember how often you take portraits with your smartphone? How often do you have to move further and further away from the subject you want to include in order for it to fit into the frame? For me, the answers are: rarely and every time. So, LG has worked to ensure that users no longer have to change the shooting point in order to fit more objects into the frame. LG's new flagship is a great option for those who like to take photos with a smartphone, especially those who like to play with the settings in manual mode.

Sound

LG G6 for Russian market boasts a dedicated DAC, which affects the sound quality. If you listen to music using, for example, Play Music, then there won’t be much difference with other smartphones, but if you connect more or less serious headphones to the device and upload Lossless tracks to the device, you will understand what truly good sound is. For connoisseurs high-quality sound dreaming of music smartphone, LG G6 will definitely suit your taste.

Aspect Ratio

LG G6 is the first smartphone on the market with a non-standard, elongated display. Until recently, the standard aspect ratio in most devices was 16 to 9. LG decided to move away from the usual standards and stretched the device display to 18 to 9 (i.e. 2 to 1).

How is this better? Because in applications like Facebook, Instagram, in the browser and in reading applications, it fits on the screen more information. Also, when navigating, you can see one more block than on a smartphone with a standard 16:9 display in vertical orientation.

Of the minuses - this standard is not yet widespread, so most of the content (on the same YouTube video hosting) is played on the device with black bars on the left and right. It’s not possible to “stretch” the picture like in the Galaxy S8 everywhere.

Always-on display

This function is available in the flagship and works. The only thing is that, since this is not an Amoled display, where black color is displayed due to the fact that the pixels are not lit, the Always-on display in the LG G6 consumes quite a lot of charge. But even with active function“always on the screen” the smartphone lasts one day without recharging, which is what is required of a smartphone today.

Battery, performance, screen

And now about the obligatory points of any review. The LG G6 screen is pleasant - the colors are close to natural. After Samsung displays it is perceived as slightly dull, the colors seem softer, pastel, but after a few days of use, this feeling disappears. The only thing we can blame the Koreans for is the way they implemented the rounding of the display corners. It's not as smooth as the Galaxy S8.

LG deliberately sacrificed the new Snapdragon 835 chipset to become the first flagship in 2017, ahead of HTC, Xiaomi and Samsung. The LG G6 has a Snapdragon 821, but don't let that put you off. In daily use the difference is practically indistinguishable. Yes, in AnTuTu G6 will score less than, for example, Xiaomi Mi6, but now it is impossible to find applications that can reveal this difference in real life. LG G6 is a very fast flagship.

In terms of autonomy, the G6 is also quite good. With the Always-on display enabled, the G6 lasts 10-15% longer than the G6, which is a significant difference.

conclusions

Currently the market is average price segment squeezes flagship devices, offering maximum functionality at a reasonable price. LG did the almost impossible - they created a device that is worth paying attention to, which can compete with flagship devices. LG G6 is the most underrated flagship to date. It's a pity, because the device is very balanced and charismatic.

The price of the LG G6 does nothing to help sales growth. 52,000 rubles is expensive, 30,000 rubles in gray retail looks much more attractive. For that kind of money best device can not found. If LG stopped giving away smart watch along with each G6 sold and simply reduced the price by 10-15 thousand rubles, this would be much more effective.

Sony has been installing for a very long time excellent IPS displays in smartphones, so choosing between the XZ Premium and S8+ based on image quality will be a matter of taste. In comparison with Samsung, the fingerprint scanner of the Japanese flagship can already be used without swearing, and based on the quality of the photos, one can preliminarily determine that Sony takes slightly less bright, but clearer pictures with natural color rendition, while Samsung blurs the frame more, but produces a wider dynamic range. And, judging by preliminary comparisons with the iPhone 7 Plus, Sony still saddled its photo algorithms properly. It is high time!

Otherwise - no, excuse my English, know-how: none voice assistants, no exotic camera modes, no edges, etc. But this is not important - the main thing is that the smartphone has high quality camera, display, sound and there were no problems with autonomy and speed. Because we can’t talk about it reliably yet - due to a shortage of supplies of the Snapdragon 835 and some bureaucracy, the XZ Premium will go on sale only in the summer, a few months after the start of sales of the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8.

conclusions

Most of the complaints about the S8/S8+ relate to ergonomics. Samsung didn't remove the fingerprint scanner like Apple removed the audio jack, but it did make the scanner awkward to use. And so that Bixby, into which the Koreans have sunk a lot of money, does not “sink”, it was “nailed” to a separate key and the volume down buttons were put in place. Whether you like it or not, you will use it periodically.

I repeat once again: Galaxy S8/S8+ is not an S7 “with a new sauce”, it is, in some way, a return to origins. Because five years ago, passers-by would turn their necks in the same way at the “huge” 4.7-inch HD display inside the glossy, streamlined Galaxy cases S3. In the same Samsung models first introduced the stupid, as time has shown, voice assistant S-Voice and multi-windows to resemble a computer (and in S8 it “reinvented” Windows Continuum). And even “childhood illnesses” with the display were also typical for the S3 and S8.

I don't like the soapy body design of the Galaxy S8+, and Not I like the way of avoiding inconveniences for old methods of use in order to courageously overcome them with new ones (be it a voice assistant or a face/iris scanner). I don’t like the “bland” sound in the headphones and last year’s rear camera. I don’t like the battery life under load compared to the S7 edge. Logically, now I should say “for the same money it’s better to buy %smartphone_name%!”... but there is no such smartphone.

Sony's flagship will appear only in the "bright future" and it is not known whether it will be better in all respects. LG is offering a relatively slow smartphone for an amount comparable to the S8, which has a screen, optical stabilization, and front-camera worse. Huawei also didn’t come close either in performance or in the ratio of display diagonal to body dimensions, and even in terms of camera quality it almost “jumped” to last year’s Samsung camera.

The “godlike” Xiaomi, as practice has shown, is not strong enough to compete with the flagships of 2017. So the Chinese simply wrapped the Snapdragon 835 in an inexpensive case and installed cameras “slightly better than the iPhone 7 Plus.” Everyone was waiting for a miracle, but what they got was another powerful “Chinese”.

What kind of miracle is it when no one (not even LG, the giant producing OLED matrices) is still able to build a display that is as bright, colorful and correctly calibrated, even if it’s not curved? How did it happen that Samsung, which before the S7 edge even molded the cores for hardware according to a ready-made recipe, built the most powerful processor in the world, cooler than the “craft” chip of the most experienced Qualcomm?

Yes exactly. In 2017, a South Korean company issued great smartphone Samsung Galaxy S8, which is head and shoulders above its predecessors and looks down on potential competitors.

Apple and Samsung seem to have reached an agreement. The first to show the new flagship in the fall and skim the cream off new year holidays, while the latter roll out top-end new products in the spring and deprive gadget lovers of money for a summer vacation.

In this situation, it is difficult to say who is catching up with whom. Either it was a successful response to , or the previous round of the fight remained with Apple, and in this one everyone is waiting for the presentation.

In any case, Apple this moment as a catch-up

What trump cards does Cook have up his sleeve to give a worthy response to his main competitor? Should you wait for the iPhone 8 or go for the Galaxy S8 now?

Touch ID

Perhaps this is the biggest intrigue. Samsung seems to have messed up its biometric sensor on purpose.

One of the main complaints about the South Korean flagship is the poor placement of the sensor next to the camera lens. No one really minds having a panel on the back, it was just a matter of moving the camera to a different location.

Apple can do away with Touch ID altogether. This will be a real fail or creative crisis. Call it what you want, but you can’t remove a useful and popular feature.

Sensor in side key blocking. This is difficult due to the size of the latter; it will take a long time to get used to the new arrangement. In the first six months, all the problems with the solution will appear.

Everyone will perceive the iPhone sensor as surrender. Apple won’t be able to collect an extra hundred emojis on this matter, and at the presentation someone will have to looking smart talk about the need for such a solution.

The real breakthrough will be the fingerprint scanner. I will be the first to shout the cherished word and run to break my piggy bank to buy a new iPhone on the first day of sales.

Display

Samsung has been setting the trend here for several years now. And a new technological matrix, and a screen without side frames, and additional actions With rounded edges screen, and Always function On play into the hands of the Galaxy S8.

The iPhone screen is hopelessly outdated, but it’s still good, but without regard to its main competitor.

We also need to take some time in this direction. The old familiar Retina display with thick frames will simply bury the new iPhone.

Design

Looking at the smartphones of the last five years, we can say that everyone is copying everyone else. Some gadgets have their own features and features, but against the general background this is barely noticeable.

Yes, the Galaxy S8 looks fresh, it’s very pleasant to hold the smartphone in your hand, and the screen is so large and harmoniously integrated into the body that holding it is both pleasant and scary at the same time, just wow from its limitlessness.

The iPhone will again appear as a black rectangle. The antenna stripes, camera edges and its location are of no interest to anyone. In addition, the edges new iPhone will be normal, and not curved, like the Samsung Galaxy S8, which will not only visually identify the frames, but also partially sacrifice the effect total immersion, for which the Galaxy S8 is so famous.

This is clearly not Apple's battlefield. Here, either copy and admit your powerlessness, or continue on the same path, relying on other innovations.

Camera

Any iPhone 7 Plus and Galaxy S8 show at least a draw, and in most cases Samsung flagship takes over. At the same time, the smartphone has only one module, which can do what the iPhone 7 Plus uses a pair of cameras for.

This is exactly the module that should be in the new iPhone so that beautiful pictures can be taken on both the regular model and the Plus. The latter can be upgraded with optical zoom. There is already a 2x magnification, a couple more lenses and a 4x zoom in thin smartphone will be a hit.

Protection

And here Apple needs to catch up with the Samsung Galaxy S8. There is only one way out - a real IP68 inscription in the iPhone specifications and a full guarantee in case of violation of the seal of the case.

Protection can be not only physical. More and more people are now storing things on their smartphones. bank cards, bills and make payments by contactless technology using a smartphone (for example, Samsung Pay), so protecting information becomes extremely important. For these purposes, in addition to a password and a fingerprint scanner, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has an iris scanner for maximum data protection.

You can’t think of anything else in this direction, and we don’t expect anything more.

Iron

Benchmarks and tests of the filling have not interested anyone for a long time. Match two different worlds almost impossible. However, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has the world's first 10nm processor built into it, which not only provides fast work smartphone, but also reduces battery power consumption.

Of course, at the presentation of the new iPhone they will report on increased performance, a new processor, etc., but will it compare to the Samsung Galaxy S8?

It would be stupid to bet on this and spend a lot of resources on development too.

Other features

Samsung is trying to surround the smartphone with interesting and useful accessories. So far these are quite niche solutions, but virtual reality glasses, wireless headphones, compact panoramic camera with live streaming capability, 360-degree camera and docking station to turn your Galaxy S8 into full-fledged computer look interesting.

Apple is still revolving around the iPhone with AirPods and even wireless Beats. they only talk about wireless charging, which at the moment does not seem promising.

Price

Apple will under no circumstances resort to dumping. Playing short will remove the patina of status from the company’s gadgets, and pontoons will immediately run for the Galaxy S8.

Have you ever seen anyone with a modular LG G5 or its stripped-down version for Russia, the G5 SE? I am once at the entrance to the LG office. It seems that the company itself did not believe in its flagship of last year. LG's mobile division has clearly looked at the mistakes it made with the G5's launch and has moved away from experimenting with modularity and focusing on what really matters. The result is one of best smartphones that were tested.

LG G6 is the smartphone that was very unlucky. It went on sale at the same time as the Samsung Galaxy S8, automatically finding itself in the shadow of its sleek, bezel-less competitor. Undeservedly, I must say. In the review I will explain why exactly, and a comparison of the two Korean flagships I'll save it for a separate article. So today we are talking exclusively about the LG G6.

As soon as you pick up the G6, you immediately realize that you are holding an expensive item. A weighty block of metal and glass that doesn't try to appear thinner than it actually is. In general, the G6 was not created to show off. A reliable workhorse that is not scary to hold in your hands like some kind of crystal craft. The smartphone evokes a rare feeling of reliability and durability. There are several reasons for this.

I'll start with the smartphone features. Standard set there will also be a review (performance, battery, display), but a little later.

Impact resistance

You can drop the LG G6 without much fear of the consequences. I, of course, did not try to drop the smartphone on the asphalt (after all, the test device needs to be returned sooner or later), but the smartphone survived falls from different heights in the office (from a pocket, from a table, on a corner, with the screen or flat on its back) easily. I would not dare to test any other smartphone in this way. But the G6's MIL-STD 810G certification simply encourages you to drop the device and see if it really doesn't break. I declare: everything is so, the test G6 is intact. There weren't even more scratches after the previous "test drives". By the way, the rounded corners of the display, which I’ll talk about separately, also serves the purpose of increasing resistance to falls: rounded corners absorb shock more effectively, distributing the load more evenly. Cool. All flagships would like such protection.

By the way, in addition to the fact that a smartphone is difficult to break, it is also difficult to drown it: protection from water and dust according to the IP68 standard is also provided by the Koreans. Anyone else lament the loss of modularity on the G5?

Sound

The Russian version of the LG G6 boasts a dedicated DAC, which has a very positive effect on the sound quality. If you listen to music using streaming services like Play Music, the difference with regular smartphone Without a dedicated amplifier you won't hear it. But once you connect more or less serious headphones to the LG G6 and load lossless tracks into the memory, you begin to understand what truly good sound is. For connoisseurs high-quality sound For those dreaming of a truly musical smartphone, the LG G6 should definitely suit their taste.

Cameras

No one else on the market has this approach to the dual main camera module. LG has made the most successful combination of cameras, in my opinion: the main one shoots like any other smartphone, and the second camera is wide-angle, allowing you to fit much more into the frame than we are used to. I will give a simple example in favor of such a solution. How often do you take portraits with your smartphone? How often do you have to move further and further away from your subject because he doesn’t fit into the frame? For me, the answers to these questions look like this: rarely and almost every time. So, the LG G6 focused on giving the user the opportunity to fit as many objects as possible into the frame without having to change the shooting point. The gallery shows several frames taken from the same point on each of the modules. Check out the difference. It’s hard to find fault with the quality of shooting on each camera. LG G6 is a great option for lovers mobile photography. Especially for those who don’t mind playing with the settings in manual mode.

Is 18:9 better than 16:9?

LG G6 is the first smartphone to hit the market with a non-standard, elongated display. Until recently, the standard aspect ratio for most devices was 16:9. LG extended the display height to marketing 18:9, in other words, to 2:1.

Why is this cool? The ones in the apps like Instagram, Facebook, in a browser or reading app, more information fits on the screen. Or, for example, when navigating, you can see one or two blocks more than on smartphones with a standard 16:9 display in vertical orientation. It has also become more pleasant to work with a smartphone in dual mode. open windows(although I use this mode a little more often than never).

One of the downsides is that the new aspect ratio is not yet widespread. As a result, most video content (on YouTube) plays on the G6 with black bars to the left and right of the picture. It is not possible to “stretch” the picture, as, for example, in the Galaxy S8 (in Youtube it is not possible). But you quickly get used to it and stop paying attention.

Always-on display

How is this so? The LG G6 has an ordinary (albeit very high-quality) IPS matrix, this is not AMOLED, where black color is displayed due to the fact that the pixels do not light up. Nevertheless, the G6 has an always-on screen feature and works as it should (even if it is not as sophisticated as that of its main competitor). The secret is that the display’s backlight is always active, that is, the entire screen area is lit. This consumes quite a lot of charge, but even with Always-on turned on, the G6 lasts one day without recharging, which is what is required of a smartphone today. So the function has a right to exist, although I turned it off after a couple of days of use: the information on the screen in this mode is almost unreadable (only if in the evening).

Screen, performance, battery

Now I’ll briefly go over the mandatory points of each review. The screen on the G6 is very nice - the colors are close to natural. Compared to Samsung devices, it is perceived as slightly dull, the colors seem more pastel. But these sensations disappear after a day or two active exploitation. It’s difficult to find fault with a 2K screen, but it’s possible. The only thing I would blame the Koreans for is the way the G6 implements the rounding of the display corners. It is not as smooth as in the Galaxy S8, the radius of curvature is different from that of the edges of the smartphone, and it does not look as neat as it could.

LG deliberately sacrificed the fresh, powerful Snapdragon 835 chipset when launching the G6 in order to become the first flagship of 2017, ahead of Samsung, HTC and Xiaomi. The LG G6 has last year's Snapdragon 821. But don't let that scare you away from this device. The difference is truly almost indistinguishable in daily use. Yes, Antutu G6 will have fewer “virtual parrots” than, for example, Xiaomi Mi6, but today there are no applications or use cases that can reveal this difference in real life. LG G6 is a very pleasant and fast flagship without any “buts”.

And it’s also pretty good in terms of autonomy. With Always-on turned off, the smartphone lives 10-15 percent longer than the Galaxy S8, and this is a significant difference.

conclusions

The average price segment today, in terms of the totality of consumer qualities, is inferior to flagship devices, offering maximum functionality at a reasonable price tag. Already high competitive market It's not enough to just release flagship devices good smartphone. Here potential buyers expect all the best, unique chips in perfect execution. LG did almost everything they could to convince me that their flagship G6 was worth a look. This is the most underrated flagship today. It's a pity, because the device turned out to be very balanced, and at the same time charismatic. The price of the G6 in official retail does not help sales growth in any way. 52 thousand rubles is very expensive. 30 thousand in gray retail looks much more interesting. For that kind of money you won't find a better device on the market. If LG stopped giving away smartwatches along with every LG G6 sold and simply lowered the price by 10-15 thousand rubles, it would work out unconditionally Best offer On the market.
