Samsung galaxy s8 what colors. All the colors of the Galaxy S8 case and which one is better to buy? Samsung Galaxy S8: user reviews

The well-known leak publisher with the pseudonym evleaks continues to share information about the upcoming Samsung flagships. The other day he posted renderings of three Galaxy S8 color options, which are called "black sky", "gray orchid" and "arctic silver".

With one of his tweets, evleaks also confirmed rumors regarding the European prices of new Samsung products. According to him, Galaxy S8 will cost 799 euros(~50,000 rubles), and the Galaxy S8+ will cost 899 euros (~56,000 rubles). For 150 euros (~9,400 rubles) you can purchase a special DeX cradle for connecting smartphones to monitors as a PC. The new generation GearVR was priced at 129 euros (~8,000 rubles), and the Gear360 camera was priced at 229 euros (~14,300 rubles).

All the accessories he specified will be demonstrated at the presentation along with the flagships, although GearVR, as you know, was already at MWC 2017.

Let's supplement this with data on modifications of the Galaxy S8 with different processors. Thus, the version with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 will be supplied only to Japan, the USA and China, while smartphones with the proprietary Exynos 8895 chipset will be released to other markets, including Russia. For us, this is rather a plus, since practice shows that such modifications of Samsung flagships turn out to be more energy efficient.

Let us remind you once again that the announcement will take place already March 29, and the first sales will start on April 21. We will announce later when the Galaxy S8 will appear in Russia.

Samsung smartphones have long been one of the most anticipated of the year. This is not surprising, because the company is not going to give in and is trying its best to give the user the best. Of course, after the scandal, it was necessary to release an excellent product that, so to speak, would rehabilitate the brand’s position in the eyes of users. And now it’s 2017, and a new creation (even two) was born - . Let's see what this smartphone is like, which has aroused great public interest.

Today the price of a smartphone ranges from $800 to $1100 US. This is not surprising, because flagships have always cost quite a lot.

But in this case, the price is justified, because for this money you can get a number of useful functions and innovations. Why? Read the review and find out for yourself!

Equipment and appearance

In the Galaxy S8 box you can find a standard set: a charging block, a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, a miniature adapter from USB Type-C to USB Type-A, as well as updated headphones developed jointly with AKG.

In the new smartphone, Samsung designers tried to preserve the design ideas inherent in the Galaxy S7 Edge and Note 7. The idea is to reduce the frame of the smartphone as much as possible. And in the case of the Galaxy S8, they clearly succeeded. The frames of the smartphone are barely noticeable, which allows you to fully immerse yourself in the picture of what is happening on the screen. The Galaxy S8 is the alpha and omega of the whole design, the key feature of which is the “infinity display”, as Samsung called it.

It's incredible that they managed to fit a 5.8-inch screen into a 148.9 x 68.1 mm body. It occupies 84.26% of the front panel of the smartphone, and its side edges are slightly curved, which creates the feeling as if you are holding only the smartphone display in your hands.

The main materials of the case: Gorilla Glass 5 covering the front and back panels, as well as an aluminum frame on the edges. The latter is now polished and painted in the color of the body, thanks to this, as well as the tight fit of all parts, it seems that the Galaxy S8 is cut from a single piece of glass and it looks very stylish.

1 of 5

But, as always, beauty requires sacrifice. The phone is very beautiful, but glass is not the most durable material, so the body is prone to scratches (but not as much as).

Despite the fact that the Galaxy S8 has a larger display, the body dimensions are slightly smaller than the Galaxy S7 Edge. At the same time, the smartphone display is not very curved, which practically eliminates accidental clicks, unlike the Galaxy S7 Edge.

The function keys of the smartphone have also changed; now they are virtual, and pressing is accompanied by a slight vibration response.

Also in the settings you can change the location of the control keys, choosing the standard one for Samsung or as in “pure” Android.

The Galaxy S8 case is dust/waterproof according to IP68 standard, it can be immersed in fresh water to a depth of 1 meter and for up to 30 minutes.

Screen

As mentioned earlier, the display almost completely occupies the front panel of the smartphone, and its diagonal is 5.8 inches. Samsung traditionally uses a Super AMOLED matrix, but this time with a non-standard resolution of 2960x1440 pixels and an even more non-standard aspect ratio of 18.5:9. At first, this aspect ratio may not seem convenient, since conventional smartphones have a 16:9 ratio, and compared to them, the Galaxy S8 screen is smaller in width and larger in height. You can soon get used to this (what else can you do). Reaching the top edge of the display with one hand is still possible, but problematic (again, a matter of habit).

Color rendition and viewing angles are, as always, at the highest level. In the settings you can choose one of the modes in which the screen changes the display of colors and color temperature, making the colors either very colorful or more natural and natural. The capricious user can adjust the color balance to suit himself, although the preset “Adaptive Screen” setting shows good results in most cases.

Following in the footsteps of Apple and their Night Shift mode, the Galaxy S8 has a very similar mode, only it’s called “Blue Filter”, which performs a similar function to Night Shift - it makes the display colors very “warm”, which will help relieve eye strain in the evening. day and improve sleep (at least that’s what it says in the description). You can set the “from dusk to dawn” function to turn on automatically, which is very convenient.

Let's focus on the aspect ratio. At first it may seem that applications on a smartphone will not be displayed correctly (this is not surprising), but when you pick up the smartphone, it immediately becomes clear that this time Samsung tried and allowed the user to choose: use the program with its standard aspect ratio or stretch it in full screen. Standard applications are fully adapted to the screen, although some may have difficulties (for example, with older programs that do not adapt well). In order to select the zoom mode, there is a separate button in the multitasking menu (a very good idea).

But if problems with scaling in minor or rarely used programs can somehow be overcome, then with games things are different.

So, in some games, when using scaling, the edges of the display cut off some elements of the game (for example, control keys). But it’s not for nothing that Samsung released the S8 in black, so you definitely won’t be able to see the black edges!

The same situation applies to video. Of course, everything that was shot on the smartphone itself will be displayed in full screen, but most videos on the Internet (Youtube, etc.) are shot with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Don't be upset, it's not all that bad. For example, in the Youtube application (which the vast majority of users use) it is possible to adapt the video to the screen, but in this situation it will be slightly cropped at the top and bottom, which, in principle, allows you to comfortably watch your favorite videos without being distracted.

There is also an interesting screen customization function - the choice of resolution: HD+ (1480×720), Full HD+ (2220×1080) and WQHD+ (2960×1440).

At maximum resolution, the pixel density is 570 per inch, which is clear that it is impossible to see them with the naked eye. Although choosing this resolution will slightly increase the power consumption of the smartphone, we will talk about this a little later. But here there is a small nuance - if you choose Full HD+ or HD+ resolution, then the pixels are also not visible, but the smartphone consumes less charge, so the conclusion arises that you need to use the maximum resolution either for VR, or for showing off. In other cases, it is not advisable to use it.

As in the Galaxy S7 Edge, you can install different widgets on the locked screen (time, calendar, battery charge, notification icons, even images to choose from). Samsung called this feature Always on Display and it works thanks to the Super AMOLED screen (in it, each pixel can be illuminated separately, which helps save battery very well). But even here there were some innovations. Now, even when the Always on Display function is enabled, if the phone is in your pocket or lying face down, the display turns off completely, which allows you to save battery even more (in the Galaxy S7 Edge the display was always on). Also, the brightness of elements displayed on the locked screen depends on the lighting around you.

The Edge function has not gone away (a curtain is placed on the edge of the display, by pulling it you can access various functions). From there you can launch your favorite programs, contacts, open the clipboard, etc.

The new version has added the Smart Select panel; previously it could only be found in the Note series. This useful panel has a number of functions that allow you to recognize text in an image, cut out an area of the screen (and dock it on top of other windows), and make a GIF from part of a video.

Performance

It's time to take a look at what's inside. Here a ten-nanometer processor awaits us either. This chip contains 4 energy-efficient ARM Cortex A53 cores operating at a frequency of 1.7 GHz, as well as 4 high-performance Samsung Exynos M1 cores, the maximum frequency of which reaches 2.3 GHz. The graphics are handled by the latest Mali-G71 MP20 accelerator, which is as much as 40% superior to its predecessor (Mali T880MP12) installed on the Galaxy S7 Edge.

The smartphone has 4 GB of RAM, which is quite enough for comfortable work without “brakes”, but this is a flagship, why not add more, so to speak, in reserve? They crammed in as much as 8 GB of RAM, but it costs a little less. The question may arise: does screen resolution affect performance? The answer is simple: regardless of the resolution set in the settings, the device works quickly.

Synthetics are of course good, especially when they show very good results, but time will tell how the smartphone will behave in field conditions. Preliminary results showed that the phone performs at its best and there are no complaints at this time.

Camera

The main camera in the Galaxy S8 is equipped with a 12-megapixel module with an f/1.7 aperture, digital and optical stabilization, there are as many as 6 lenses with fairly large 1.4μm pixels. I've already seen this somewhere (oh yes, in the Galaxy S7 Edge). While competitors are introducing dual cameras with all their might, Samsung still has one (what a flagship this is, huh?), but in practice it shoots no worse than its competitors, and maybe better. So the camera is old, but what changes? This time Samsung took a detour and used a new revision of the camera module and software processing algorithms. This resulted in the camera working a little faster and improving the quality of pictures in low light. Now it is possible to save pictures in two formats at once - RAW and JPEG. This function does not work for a series of pictures.

And in the camera application interface, you can now use the shutter button to enlarge the image (pull up to zoom in, down to return to its original position).

In good lighting, pictures in automatic mode turn out very good:

When shooting macro, the camera is not inferior:

The front camera of the Galaxy S has an 8-megapixel module with f/1.7 aperture. There is support for HDR, merging several images into one (to increase the viewing angle), as well as screen backlighting in poor lighting (the so-called “pseudo-flash”).

When shooting video, the camera performs well, so we can say that the Galaxy S8 has one of the best cameras on the market.

Speaker, sound quality

The Galaxy S8 has one external speaker, but even though it has a membrane installed (I remind you that the smartphone has an IP68 protection rating), it sounds quite loud and of high quality.

The new headphones from AKG, included in the set, sound decent, but in some places they sags in the bass (although the taste and color...). These are one of the best standard headphones, by the way, they will cost as much as $100 separately.

Of course, after Samsung bought Harman, everyone was waiting for a complete upgrade in sound, but it seems that the revolution did not happen (not this time, then next time). The equalizer and the Adapt Sound function (allowing you to customize the sound to your liking) remain in place.

Battery

After the hype with the Note 7, the company had to radically change its approach to developing and testing batteries. “The more tests, the better!” The smaller the battery, the fewer problems? Apparently that's what Samsung thinks. Well, how else can you explain that the Galaxy S7 Edge had a capacity of 3600 mAh, while the Galaxy S8 had only 3000 mAh. Although the main thing is not capacity, but autonomy and optimization!

During measurements, the display brightness level was 200 cd/m2.

Here are the test results:

With HD+ resolution (1480×720) - 8 hours 36 minutes

With Full HD+ resolution (2220×1080) - 7 hours 38 minutes

With WQHD+ resolution (2960×1440) - 6 hours 59 minutes

For a smartphone with a 3000 mAh battery, this is a very good result. As time has shown, on average a smartphone lasts for 1.5 days if you use Full HD+ resolution (auto-brightness, background refresh, Wfi (used 70% of the time), Mobile Internet (used 30% of the time), all applications such as mail and instant messengers worked in the background, mostly surfing the browser, social networks, listening to music, a little video and games (about 20 minutes). It turned out to be about 6 hours of active screen.

The smartphone is charged via the USB Type-C port. There is support for fast wired as well as wireless charging.

Samsung has done their best in this regard. There is simply an incredible number of possibilities for unlocking a smartphone: using facial recognition, iris scanning, and a fingerprint scanner. We will not consider standard unlocking methods, such as passwords and pattern keys. Each method has its pros and cons.

Let's start in order, perhaps with facial recognition. This method may seem very convenient, as it works quickly and quite accurately. Of course there are more disadvantages than advantages. For example, in low light conditions this method simply will not work. That's not so bad. It's very easy to bypass the blocking using the owner's photo. And this is no longer a joke. Data confidentiality is under serious threat! Therefore, this method is not practical and is not particularly popular.

Next, let's look at the fingerprint scanner. It is located to the left of the camera (if you hold the smartphone while looking at the display). Well what can I say, this is the best place for a scanner! Especially when you need to unlock the phone, you constantly end up on camera, although you can quickly get used to this and after a week of use there will be much fewer “misses”, and the camera is cleaner.

It feels like the manufacturer is saying: “Well, they’ll still use an iris scanner, that’s right, to boot!” Of course, there is something in this, but the most sensible thing that comes to mind is that the developers simply did not have enough time to think everything through properly, the main thing is to show something new, and then they will fix it (maybe).

The most interesting thing is for dessert. So, an iris scanner. It is located near the camera and can be seen when it starts working. The main advantage is that the scanner is infrared and works even in the dark (which is why almost no one uses facial recognition). And most importantly, it works very quickly, sometimes you don’t have time to look at your smartphone, but it’s already unlocked. Why, then, a fingerprint scanner at all? There is a theory that infrared radiation has a detrimental effect on vision, of course this has not been proven, there have been no cases of vision deterioration until now (well, this would have already been discussed on the Internet). But there are people who believe in this, so for them there is a fingerprint scanner (or maybe this is a conspiracy at Samsung to justify it?). Let's not dwell on this. By the way, the scanner recognizes eyes quite well even in glasses, if there is no extra glare (here is another use of a fingerprint scanner). No matter how you look at it, the method justifies itself and is very popular among users.

Interface

On board the Galaxy S8 is a pre-installed Android 7.0 operating system with the Samsung Experience shell. To be honest, this is the best Samsung shell of all time. It is optimized, and the operating logic is very similar to “pure” Android. The designers drew everything in the best possible way (not like before!).

Everything looks elegant, but at the same time uncomplicated and simple. Taking a smartphone in hand, it becomes intuitively clear what, where and how to use “it”.

When setting up your smartphone for the first time, you can finally choose whether to install standard Samsung applications (browser, mail, audio/video player, etc.) or not. Only in 2017 Samsung made such a breakthrough! Thank you, now there will be no “garbage” on the menu.

Intelligent assistant or simply Bixby

In October last year, Samsung bought the virtual assistant Viv (from the developers), its main feature was that third-party developers could integrate their own programs and services into the assistant, and Viv itself would provide a voice input system. Most of these assistants, for example, Siri, are systems closed to developers. The more access developers have, the more opportunities there are for ordinary users. At launch, Viv already supported integration with more than 50 programs. At the presentation of the Galaxy S8, the Viv voice assistant was introduced as Bixby. The way it works is as follows: Bixby analyzes the programs you use and, in turn, shows you widgets that will help save the user's time on regular tasks. For example, in the morning he can show you the weather forecast or quickly call a taxi. Reminders in Bixby are implemented in a very practical and convenient way; they can even be displayed in a separate application in the menu. Now the assistant is “damp”, but soon it should show itself in all its glory (and maybe it will overtake Siri?).

Communication and Internet

The fashion for hybrid slots for SIM cards is filling the smartphone market with all its might. And the Galaxy S8 was no exception. You can install either two nano-SIMs or one nano-SIM and a memory card with up to 256 GB of permanent memory in your smartphone. The smartphone also supports all the most widely used wireless data transmission standards: Wifi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac.

The smartphone has the latest Bluetooth 5.0, which now allows you to simultaneously connect two pairs of wireless headphones at the same time.

Conclusion

If we summarize everything that was said earlier, then the device can well be called one of the best in its category. It has many advantages: chic design, excellent build quality, dust/moisture protection according to IP68 standard, good sound, good battery life, wireless charging, and the ability to turn your smartphone into a mini-PC using a docking station (it was not mentioned in review). The only drawbacks that can be highlighted are the body material, as it is prone to scratches (glass is not the best material for this), as well as the location of the fingerprint scanner. So, overall, the Galaxy S8 can be called one of the best smartphones of 2017.

Samsung chose several color schemes for its 2017 flagships, and was able to truly surprise its fans. Indeed, in addition to the “standard” black and silver cases, the new Galaxy S8 will be presented in several more colors.

So, officially, at the moment the new Galaxy S8 will be sold in the following colors:

  1. Midnight black - midnight black.
  2. Arctic Silver - Arctic silver.
  3. Maple Gold - maple gold.
  4. Coral Blue - blue coral.
  5. Orchid Gray - gray orchid.

All these colors were shown to us at the presentation. But it is far from a fact that each of these colors will “reach” Russia. And this is confirmed by the Galaxy S8 pre-order page, where Russian buyers are offered only three body color options:

  • Black brilliant.
  • Yellow topaz.
  • Mystical amethyst.

And if everything is more or less clear with the first two, the black diamond is Midnight black, and the yellow topaz is Maple Gold. What kind of color is mystical amethyst? If the images on the pre-order page are to be believed, it is none other than Orchid Gray.

Samsung, of course, did a great job (no, they just confused everyone) for coming up with such cool marketing names, but in the end it all comes down (for Russia at this stage of sales) to three “regular” body colors:

  1. Black.
  2. Gray.
  3. Golden.

As you can see, the “coolest”, in our opinion, blue color is not yet available in Russia. Same as silver.

An interesting point is that all this confusion with names led to the fact that at one time a yellow Galaxy S8 was available for pre-order on Yandex.market. Not gold, but yellow! Eh, I had to take it :)

Let's think about what color smartphone should you buy?

  1. Black. Surely, it will be the most popular - but at the same time, it is not without certain drawbacks. Perhaps the main one is fingerprints. There is no escape from them. Let us at least remember the example of the “stained” iPhone 7 Onyx Black - it will probably be almost the same here.
  2. Gray and golden, this lack will be deprived. But at the same time, they look less “premium” than an all-black device.

As we already said, it’s a pity that not all announced Galaxy S8 color options are available for purchase at the moment. And if you don’t have to worry too much about silver, then the S8 in a blue body, in our opinion, would be the only breath of fresh air in the dominance of black-white-gold gadgets. Alas, according to Samsung, we'll all have to wait for now...

P.S. What Galaxy S8 is it that you're missing? Maybe green, red or something else? Write in the comments!

Rated 5 out of 5 by John from Flagship with a capital letter. When Samsung announced its new flagship Galaxy S8 in 2017, I immediately liked it in absentia. And so, when my laptop (from another company) broke, I was thinking about what to replace it with and remembered the Samsung Dex Pad and Galaxy S8. I bought it and started using it, I was very pleased because... The Galaxy S8 is not a bad PC in terms of productivity. I really liked the quality of the camera, both photos and videos. I do mobile photography, so the camera is very decent. Great feature of Samsung Pay, now you can forget about your wallet, this is good especially in the summer. Juicy, high-quality display. We are waiting for Android 9 Pie One UI.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kirill from Very cool phone!!! They gave it to me for New Year. I was very pleased with the gift and the joy was through the roof. Everything works flawlessly. The color is very cool Mystical Amethyst. I bought the original CLEAR VIEW STANDING COVER in black. I was surprised when the phone sent a notification that it had connected to the phone. Lots of cool features, etc. One can praise him endlessly. The S8 got its money's worth. Thank you SAMSUNG for such a cool phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Vadolf from Take this smartphone, it's the best. I bought it a month ago, still very impressed, it is very thin and fits well in the hand. The camera is not bad, it’s a pity there are no 2 modules for portrait photographs, you have to wait until 1 module focuses the object. The battery lasts 1.5 days of active use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by tiamat85 from Very happy with S8 I bought myself a Galaxy S8 after I drowned the P20 Lite. I wanted Samsung for a long time but the toad was choking me. Before Samsung I had an Iphone 4 5 6, P20lite, Redmi 4X, my wife has an Iphone X. S8 is an excellent phone. I like everything. Works fast. Takes good photos. In terms of performance, it is slightly inferior to X in games (like Simpsons tapped aut), but here axis optimization still decides. Injustice and Mobile Legends are not slowing down. Pubg also flew at high speeds (I’m very picky about FPS) The only downside I’ll note is that the back cover doesn’t have a coating and it gets stained (I had to buy a case for 500 rubles)) when charging, at first it was eating up the battery like crazy, but I did a full reset after updates and everything was fine. I charge it once a day. P.S. An excellent phone worth the money. (Incomparably better than any Chinese) in terms of iPhones it’s better than 6 7 8, X, as I said, is a little worse in camera but better in performance, but it costs twice as much)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Auror from Samsung s8 Hello, I bought a Samsung Galaxy S8 at the end of August, I thought that I wouldn’t like it very much, but as it turned out, it’s even a very good phone. I would say that the phone is just wonderful and from the moment of purchase, as long as I use it, I’m always happy, the phone works lightning fast, in general, I can say that the phone is just superb I don’t know how everyone is, but I’m very pleased, I advise everyone to buy it, and for the rest of you who are looking for flaws in this phone, you just envy in silence and don’t talk nonsense, in my opinion, I’m very pleased and I advise everyone to buy and rejoice
