Is it possible to connect an external keyboard to a laptop? Keyboards and mice for a desktop computer

People who work with large volumes of texts notice that using a wireless keyboard is much more convenient. New laptops are getting smaller, screens are more inconvenient, and tablets are generally impossible to type on. Then there is only one way out - to purchase portable device and actively work with him. Now let's look in more detail at how to connect a wireless keyboard to a laptop.

There are two types on the market: the first is a radio keyboard, and the second is Bluetooth. The principle of their connection is very similar, so we present general provisions, dwelling in detail on features only where necessary.

  1. Check Bluetooth connectivity. Your laptop must support this technology. Not all models have a built-in adapter. Most often you have to buy it separately. In this case, you need to first install the receiving signal, and only then deal with the keyboard.
  2. For a radio keyboard, you must have an RF (radio frequency) signal configured. If there isn’t one, then don’t bother setting it up. It's easier to switch to Bluetooth.
  3. When you are sure that the connection is possible, estimate the distance from the laptop to the signal receiver on the keyboard. There should be no monitor, processor, metal objects, fluorescent lamps, or electrical appliances between them. Provide apparent distance at least for the duration of the first launch.
  4. All portable keyboards are self-powered, so take care of the batteries. The entrance for them is located on the back side.
  5. Any device of this type must be accompanied by installation disk. Insert it into your laptop and follow the steps according to the prompts. It should appear on your system special program for settings and keyboard control.
  6. Now take the nanoreceiver. This is a small rectangular transmitter that comes with the kit. It is he who performs the function of transmitting signals from the keyboard to the laptop. Insert it into an available USB port. After this, the laptop will search for the device itself and you will only have to wait for a message that everything is ready for use.
  7. If you connect a Bluetooth keyboard, first activate the device on it, then on the laptop. Go to the program responsible for the search wireless devices, and select the “Pair the Device” option. The system will prompt you what to do next. At the end, a message box will also appear indicating that the device is ready.
  8. Check if everything is working by opening a Word or Notepad file and typing a few phrases. Separately click additional buttonsCaps Lock, Esc, Home, End, tab and others.

And finally, if you did everything correctly, congratulations on you being the owner of a convenient and desired device. And if the keyboard does not work, you need to look for reasons. May not work USB input or there may be interference in the radio signal path. Move your devices closer and try again.

To connect you will need a cable, necessary drivers and a radio module if you plan to use wirelessly. This may be required in case of a malfunction of the main keyboard and for the convenience of working with the laptop.

Connection options

You can read the instructions on how to connect the keyboard to your laptop. Connection diagram for models different manufacturers is the same, and it does not matter what operating system is installed.

You can choose one of the proposed methods:

  • with help USB cable(then the necessary drivers are installed and the configured keyboard can be used);
  • using a PS/2 connector (outdated, but still works);
  • using a radio module (the option is used to connect using a radio transmitter, which is inserted into the USB connector, then automatic installation and setting).

Please note, when answering the question of how to connect a keyboard to a laptop, it should be noted that it is possible to use only compatible devices. Otherwise, the laptop may fail or undergo other damage that may require repair. Using the remote keyboard is very simple; it allows you to control the device from a distance of several meters, without getting tangled in wires.

If there is no pre-installed module, you will need to open the task manager, open the list of connected devices and press the install or update drivers key. This action is carried out using the Windows Driver Installation and Configuration Assistant.

Connection features

In the instructions you can read basic information about how to perform this procedure. It also lists the system requirements that you need to familiarize yourself with. If they satisfy the characteristics of your operating system, you need to go to the connection:

  • connect the keyboard using the USB cable included in the kit or a radio module in the form of a transmitter;
  • wait for the window to install and configure drivers to appear;
  • make sure the device is ready for use.

If you have connected a remote keyboard to your laptop, make sure that it has a battery installed and is connected to installed module into the USB socket. The battery needs to be replaced periodically; switching on/off occurs using a switch. A keypad connected via a cable can be used as a full-fledged keyboard.

You only need to install the drivers once; all subsequent connections only require a connection. No configuration is required. You can check the job status at any time by opening the icon in Control Panel. In the device details window, you can see whether the device is working normally or if there are any problems.

You can connect not only a keyboard to your laptop, but also a monitor, mouse and other devices.

If there are any problems, you can use the tools in the control panel or fix the problems yourself if you have the appropriate skills. When connecting the keypad to a new computer, you will need to follow the steps described above and, if necessary, use technical support.

During operation, you may encounter difficulties such as incorrect operation drivers. In this case, you will need to disconnect the keyboard, remove the drivers, reconnect the device to the laptop, install and configure the drivers.

I think no one will deny that the popularity of tablets is Lately has grown a lot and many users cannot imagine their work without this gadget

But tablets (in my opinion) have a significant drawback: if you need to write something longer than 2-3 sentences, then it becomes a real nightmare. To remedy this, there are small ones on sale. wireless keyboards, which connect via Bluetooth and allow you to close this drawback (and they often even come with a case).

In this article, I wanted to look step by step at how to set up connecting such a keyboard to a tablet. There is nothing complicated in this issue, but as with everything, there are some nuances...

1) Turn on the keyboard

The wireless keyboard has dedicated buttons for turning on and setting up the connection. They are located either slightly above the keys, or on the side wall of the keyboard (see Fig. 1). The first thing you need to do is turn it on; as a rule, the LEDs should start flashing (or lit).

2) Setting up Bluetooth on the tablet

In the settings you need to open the “Wireless networks” section and turn on Bluetooth connection(blue switch in Fig. 2). Then go to bluetooth settings.

3) Select a device from the available ones...

If your keyboard is turned on (the LEDs on it should be blinking) and the tablet starts looking for devices available for connection, you should see your keyboard in the list (as in Fig. 3). You need to select it and connect.

4) Pairing

The pairing process is the process of establishing a connection between your keyboard and your tablet. As a rule, it takes 10-15 seconds.

5) Password for confirmation

The final touch is that you need to enter a password on the keyboard to access the tablet, which you will see on its screen. Please note that after entering these numbers on the keyboard, you need to press Enter.

6) Completing the connection

If everything was done correctly and there were no errors, then you will see a message that the bluetooth keyboard is connected (this is a wireless keyboard). Now you can open Notepad and type to your heart's content.

What to do if the tablet does not see the bluetooth keyboard?

1) The most common thing is a dead keyboard battery. Especially if this is your first time trying to connect it to a tablet. Charge the keyboard battery first, and then try connecting it again.

2) Open the system requirements and description of your keyboard. What if it is not supported by Android at all (note also the Android version)?!

3) Yes special applications on "Google Play", for example " Russian Keyboard" By installing such an application (it will help when working with non-standard keyboards) - it will quickly eliminate compatibility problems and the device will start working as expected...

Connecting a keyboard to a laptop (Windows 10)

In general, you need to connect an additional keyboard to a laptop much less often than to a tablet (after all, a laptop has one keyboard

). But this may be necessary when, for example, the original keyboard is stained with tea or coffee and some keys do not work well on it. Let's look at how this is done on a laptop.

1) Turn on the keyboard

A similar step as in the first section of this article...

2) Does Bluetooth work?

Very often Bluetooth is not turned on at all on the laptop and the drivers are not installed on it... The easiest way to find out if it works wireless connection- just see if this icon is in the tray (see Fig. 7).

Delivery of drivers in 1 click:

3) If Bluetooth is turned off (for those who have it working, you can skip this step)

If you have installed (updated) the drivers, then it is not a fact that Bluetooth works for you. The fact is that it can be turned off in Windows settings. Let's look at how to enable it in Windows 10.

First, open the START menu and go to settings (see Fig. 8).

Then turn on bluetooth network(see Fig. 10).

6) Well done

The keyboard is connected, in fact, you can work with it.

7) Check

To check, you can open any notepad or text editor- letters and numbers are printed, which means the keyboard is working. Q.E.D…

I'll wrap it up here, good luck!

Technology developers always strive to achieve one goal - to increase human convenience and comfort. is no exception. The weight and size of laptops have decreased, routers have made it possible to access the Internet without eternal problems with connectors and cables, the examples can be listed almost endlessly. Let's talk about one of these know-how in more detail. We will talk about setting up and connecting a wireless keyboard.

When purchasing a new wireless keyboard, keep in mind that it should come with three items. The first of them is the keyboard itself, the second is a disk with drivers, the last is a wireless adapter that connects via a USB port and works on the Bluetooth principle. Sometimes this kit may include several batteries, but often you have to purchase them separately. Rechargeable batteries are perfect for this purpose, although they are quite expensive, but unlike regular ones, they can be charged, and they also hold a charge much longer. In addition, there are kits on sale that also include a mouse. However, everything depends directly on the manufacturer and price. So, let's proceed directly to the installation. To begin, insert the disk on which the drivers are recorded into the drive, and as soon as it starts, a menu should appear. But if nothing appears automatically, then you need to start it manually. To do this, go to“Computer” or “My Computer” if you are using the Windows XP operating system. Next, double-click the left mouse button on the drive icon and in the window that opens, find the file called “Install.exe” or “Setup.exe”. Launch it and you can start connecting the keyboard to your computer.

Now you need to connect wireless adapter to the USB port. By the way, sometimes such connectors are equipped with an LED to make it easier to understand, which will start blinking when the connection with the keyboard is established. If there is any problem, the light bulb will not work. And if you have connected a laser bear before, then this experience will help, since the installation is similar.

Next you need to insert the batteries. Installing them does not require extraordinary knowledge, and we hope that you can do it yourself. If the keyboard does not work, turn it over and examine it carefully. back cover, there should be a switch on it in the form of a small lever. It should be moved to the “ON” position, this should turn on the power to the product. Next, a message will appear on the desktop that the system has detected a new device, and Windows will automatically install drivers from the previously launched disk. When the setup is complete, restart your computer and you can use the keyboard.

And if you have problems with the BIOS system, you will have to abandon the idea. Take out the keyboard from regular cable, since the old ones do not support USB adapter settings, and the Windows driver itself is not included.

The Bluetooth keyboard communicates with the computer via a Bluetooth transceiver.

If your keyboard does not have a Microsoft Bluetooth transceiver, you must connect it using your computer's built-in transceiver (non-Microsoft) and your computer's Bluetooth configuration software.

  • If your keyboard has a Microsoft transceiver with a First Connect button, you can use it to launch the Microsoft Connection Wizard. It will help you establish a connection via Bluetooth.
  • If your keyboard has a Microsoft Bluetooth transceiver without a First Connect button, you need to connect the transceiver and then connect the device using Bluetooth setup software on your computer.
  • If your computer has a third-party built-in transceiver, you can connect your device to your computer directly by using the Bluetooth software setup tool on your computer, but without using a Microsoft Bluetooth transceiver.
  • Note. Power button on new devices with Bluetooth technology, such as the Wedge Touch Mouse and Sculpt Touch Mouse, you need to press and hold for about 5 seconds to pair the device with your computer.

Using a passkey

You must always set a passkey when you connect a keyboard or numeric keypad to your computer. The method for setting the passkey depends on the Bluetooth program on your computer. If your Bluetooth software offers different ways to create a passkey, let it create the passkey automatically instead of specifying one yourself or not specifying one at all. When you enter a passkey, it will not appear on the screen. After entering the access key, you need to press the key ENTER on the keyboard or numeric keypad to complete the connection.

  2. Select a Bluetooth keyboard that uses a transceiver with a First Connect button.
  3. Go to the tab and click the Connect button.
  4. Follow the wizard's instructions to connect the device.

Connecting a Bluetooth keyboard without the First Connect button

U Keyboards Elite for Bluetooth and Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth do not have a First Connect button on the transceivers. additional information To connect these keyboards to your computer, see the Bluetooth device connection guide or documentation for your Bluetooth software.

Connecting a keyboard without a Microsoft Bluetooth transceiver

If your computer has a built-in Bluetooth transceiver, you can use it to connect your keyboard without using a Microsoft USB transceiver.

Attention!

When connected using a third-party Bluetooth transceiver, some advanced Mouse and Keyboard Center features may not work. The Mouse and Keyboard Center is designed to work with Microsoft Bluetooth software. In most cases, Toshiba Bluetooth software will be an equivalent replacement. Other software Bluetooth may work but is not supported.

  1. Open the Bluetooth program on your computer. It's usually found in the Control Panel or Settings menu.

  5. Note.
The name of a specific command in different Bluetooth programs and different versions may be a little different.

Launching the Bluetooth program

There are several versions of Bluetooth software available that allow you to connect your device to a Bluetooth wireless transceiver. For information about using the program, refer to your computer's documentation or contact its manufacturer.
