Jabra Halo Smart stereo headset review: Bluetooth long-lasting. Jabra Halo Smart review: long-lasting Bluetooth headphones Made in China

I love wireless headphones; living without wires is comfortable. Sound fans will say that high-quality music can only be done over a wire, and Bluetooth is evil. I have no doubt, but I’m not a fan of crystal clear sound and I’m not looking for ideals, I just use what’s convenient. Judging by how often people with different Bluetooth headphones have begun to meet, I’m not the only one who thinks in this way.

Another hero from the world of wireless music is Jabro Halo Smart. The headphones last a long time, play music well, and the price tag won’t break your budget. In general, a remarkable thing.

Choose attachments

The headphones are loud, but it depends on what you listen to. For example, the volume on the OnePlus 3 is lower than on the iPhone 7, perhaps this depends on the power of the amplifier. I encountered a similar feature on other headsets. Noise insulation is good; when music is playing, the sound of the subway is not annoying, the hum does not drown out the songs.

I didn’t like the included tips for the headphones; there are 3 pairs of different-sized silicone tips, but they are all small, the headphones kept falling out while moving. This is, of course, an individual question. But there are headphones that are suitable for everyone, and there are also those that require individual adjustment. In the case of the Jabra Halo Smart, tips from other headphones came to the rescue.

For Jabra Halo Smart, tips from headphones with a thick sound guide are suitable, for example, silicone tips from Ultimate Ears triple.fi 10 Pro fit perfectly. If you are not satisfied with the supplied attachments, I recommend custom ones. I can recommend the Comply Foam tips, excellent sound insulation and comfortable fit.

As soon as I changed the nozzles, replacing the foam ones with the silicone ones, even the sound changed and became more saturated. The headphones can be connected to two devices simultaneously. In the office I listen to music from an iPad or Mac, the phone is also connected, when a call comes in the music fades out, and after the call ends it resumes automatically, multipoint works well.

Zwook

As I already wrote, things didn’t work out for me with the supplied attachments; I initially formed a negative opinion about the sound: flat, almost without bass and pressure.

Then I changed them to others, they revealed the potential of the Jabra Halo Smart. There is a pickup at low frequencies, high frequencies are a little lacking, but the sound does not hurt the ears. The sound is deep, there is a sense of stage and some volume, instrumental compositions play perfectly, percussion instruments are clearly audible.

For harsh “metal”, the driver speed is no longer enough, the sound is blurred. But this is generally a difficult task for dynamic headphones; it requires “reinforcement”.

Pop sounds great on Jabra, as does electronics, the bass is not pumped up, but with the right attachments it is very pleasant.

In headset mode, everything is clearly audible, the interlocutor does not hear wind noise thanks to the microphone on the headband, there is almost no background noise. On the street, of course, you can hear extraneous sounds, but the quality of voice transmission is good, the interlocutors are happy. Out of curiosity, I tried to speak through the headset, hiding it under a down jacket, the quality did not deteriorate much. In winter, such things are important; you don’t want to unbutton your jacket in the cold to talk on the phone. In the case of Jabra, you won't have to freeze.

Control

The headset is turned on with the multifunction button, after which it is immediately ready for pairing. To pair with phones, you need to press and hold the central button on the right earpiece.

The volume keys, when pressed for a long time, switch tracks. When the headset is not connected to the phone, when you press the volume buttons, a voice indicator of the battery charge starts. Using the central key, we start a call to the last subscriber from the call log.

The button on the other side launches the voice assistant, I tried it with Android and iPhone, everything worked correctly. The commands are recognized perfectly, there are no errors, Siri understands everything. But you won’t be able to continue the conversation with the assistant using the key on the headset; a new session will start, and you’ll have to use the device itself.

Notifications

Jabra Halo Smart has a built-in vibration motor that triggers when notifications arrive on your phone. But you still have to take it out of your pocket to find out who wrote the message. Although some people buy smart bracelets so as not to miss notifications, for example, my friend wears a Xiaomi Mi Band 2. Now, as an option, you can walk with a headset. It works with iOS and Android, even making a FaceTime call makes Halo vibrate.

Working hours

The manufacturer claims up to 17 hours of music listening, but I did not conduct such a test for continuous operation.

I charged the headset once a week, listening to music for 2 hours a day. I think that Jabra will “extend” the stated operating time, the autonomy is excellent. You can monitor the charge level from the phone screen, everything is clear.

Appearance

The headset hangs on your neck, these are not AirPods, you will never lose such headphones. Confused by the bright red wire? There are also options with blue and black. Jabra Halo Smart fits well on the neck and does not slip during activities, the flat wire does not stiffen in the cold, and nothing gets tangled.

All control buttons are located at the ends of the arms; if pressed with force, you won’t be able to accidentally switch the track. At first, the buttons seemed inconvenient to me, but after use I can say that the controls are okay, switching tracks is quite comfortable. The only negative is that in winter the headband remains under the jacket, so you won’t be able to switch tracks outside.

Hanging a headband over a jacket is also not the best option, however, you can always switch from your phone, and many people generally listen to random or their own playlists, for such users this will not be critical.

On the right arm there are volume buttons and a multifunction key, on the left there is a microphone and a key to launch the voice assistant. The charging socket is at the bottom at the back, so you have to remove the headphones from your neck to charge.

In my opinion, the microphone location is optimal, you can hear it normally, and no unnecessary noise is added to the conversation. The case is protected from wind and drops; if the rain takes you by surprise, nothing will happen to the headphones.

The headphones are magnetized and do not dangle while you walk. It’s very convenient when you take out the earphone to talk to someone along the way.

Opinion

In Moscow, Jabra Halo Smart costs 4,990 rubles, the headset is worth this money. There is a good notification system, practical multipoint, good sound (if you choose the attachments, an important point), and it also works for a very long time. There are not many models on the market of a similar design with similar notification systems; the Jabra Halo Smart definitely deserves attention.

When we talk about the Jabra company, the imagination immediately throws up images of business men in suits with “one-eared” faceplates for calls. However, the manufacturer has not limited itself to the business segment for a long time and produces distinctive stereo headsets, with very serious competitive advantages. For example, the Jabra Halo Smart offers customers record-breaking battery life that no other wireless, in-ear collar headphones come close to.

Jabra Halo Smart is sold in three colors: with blue accents, red and all-black. Most likely, in this way the manufacturer is playing with the division of colored models into male and female. Of course, plain ones are not for those who are undecided - the black model is aimed at a more mature and conservative audience. Regardless of the chosen color, the plastic of the “collar” and the headphones themselves are black; only the noodle cable and silicone tips can be colored.

Despite its apparent simplicity, I liked the design of the Jabra Halo Smart thanks to the flat wire, large and clear control buttons, and a noticeable but at the same time neat microphone grid. When you see Halo Smart, the epithet “industrial” comes to mind. As for the case materials and build quality, they do not evoke any emotions. One feels that the headset is clearly not from the budget segment, but the utilitarian plastic does not give any hint of premium positioning.

In terms of ergonomics, I have a small complaint about Jabra. The use of a noodle-shaped cable in combination with an elastic and even harsh braid leads to the fact that in some cases the cable seems to push the headphones off the neck. This doesn’t happen often, but sometimes you still have to return the “collar” to its place. The situation is slightly aggravated by the weight of the headset - only 38 grams, which in all other cases would be considered an indisputable advantage. The headphones are almost not felt and do not interfere; they can be used for sports, which is especially facilitated by protection from sweat and splashes. By the way, the problem with ergonomics is partly solved by the possibility of changing the shape of the plastic case. From the outside, the headset appears solid, but inside there are two grooved zones - in these places, the Jabra Halo Smart can be bent and extended for a better fit on the neck. As for the headphones themselves, everything is standard - you can choose one of four sizes of replaceable earbuds depending on the structure of your ears.

As I already wrote, one of the key advantages of the Jabra Halo Smart is its very long battery life. The manufacturer promises up to 22 days of standby time, up to 17 hours of talk time and up to 15 hours of music playback. Testing confirms that real autonomy is very close to the declared one. Because of this, Jabra Halo Smart will be an excellent choice for those who were forced to give up wired headphones - for example, bought an iPhone 7 or any other smartphone without a 3.5mm jack. Even if you actively use the headset for listening to music and making calls, you will need to charge it about once a week or even less. Thus, the transition from wired to wireless headphones will be less painful than if we were talking about models with an average battery life of 5-7 hours.

However, for those who have already gotten used to wireless headphones and are not too worried about the need to remember about the discharge, Jabra Halo Smart has a couple of other great features that set it apart from many others. Firstly, the manufacturer uses a convenient magnetic mount, which allows you to securely fix the headphones on the front of your chest, or attach them to the headband. In the first case, magnetization pauses music playback, and if the headphones were fastened, separating them for incoming calls “picks up the phone” without the need for additional presses. Of the usual controls on the body, there are four buttons: on the right is a button to accept a call, combined with pausing playback and volume control buttons, on the left is a button with a microphone icon that activates Siri or Google Now, depending on the platform of the connected smartphone.

The Halo Smart headset also has a companion app, Jabra Assist, for iOS and Android. On Apple mobile devices it allows you to read out calendar notifications and headers of new emails; on Android there are more possibilities - the application can also dictate SMS and messages from WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. This will be useful for those who do not use smart watches and do not want to have to take the device out of their pocket to view notifications. In addition, on two platforms it is possible to mark the location of the headset on the map and turn on a loud, high-frequency beep for searching.

In conclusion, it’s worth talking about sound; after all, the Jabra Halo Smart is primarily an accessory for calls and listening to music. The voice quality is one of the highest among headsets in this class; it’s not for nothing that Jabra has specialized in calling devices for a long time. Noise reduction works well, cutting out unnecessary sounds and whirl noise, the interlocutor can be heard perfectly, and he, in turn, can hear you well. In terms of genres, Halo Smart is universal; it is suitable for electronic music, popular pop tracks, and calm trends such as lounge and ambient. The only thing that can put the side dish at a dead end is very heavy rock, which does not sound very convincing in the most driving moments. However, you need to understand that Jabra Halo Smart is a cool and high-quality headset, but you shouldn’t expect audiophile miracles from it; for this you need completely different devices for incomparably large sums of money.

As a result, Jabra Halo Smart is an excellent wireless headset worth six thousand rubles. Its strengths are its smart features, convenient magnetic mounts, very long battery life and good sound. The only disadvantages include ergonomics - hard wires sometimes push the rim off the neck. Overall, I would recommend Halo Smart for purchase if your dream headset is rare charging, very light weight, ease of everyday use and decent sound.
