What is a MacBook? What is a MacBook for? Who needs a MacBook Air now? Buyer's story

MacBook Air, like everyone else Apple products, is different excellent quality execution. It's thin, light and incredibly portable. But, even taking into account all its advantages, it may not be suitable for you as a universal computer. Let's try to figure out what reasons might stop you from buying an air laptop.

Screen is not Retina

Despite numerous rumors that the MacBook Air will soon also have Retina display, while not a single air laptop has a screen high resolution. The 11-inch model has a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, while the 13-inch has a resolution of 1,440 x 900 pixels. For comparison, the 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, while the 15-inch offers 2880 x 1800 pixels.

Of course, you may not need a screen with such a resolution, which consumes much more power and drains the laptop's battery faster. But if you are a designer or professional photographer, the choice comes naturally.

Limited number of ports

When the first MacBook Air came out in 2008, it seemed obvious to all of us that such a thin and light laptop absent optical drive and no standard set ports such as Ethernet and Firewire. But even now you can only find two USB 3, Thunderbolt, and an SDXD slot in the 13-inch model.

For comparison, in MacBook Retina now built-in USB 3, two Thunderbolt 2 and one HDMI port. Firewire 800 and SuperDrive can now only be found in older classic MacBook Pros without Retina display. And if necessary, to read CDs and DVDs, you can purchase an external optical drive at any time.

A small number of modifications

If you don't have enough free space in the younger MacBook models Air, you can expand it up to 512 GB if you wish. But of course, that doesn't compare to the 1TB of flash storage on a MacBook Pro Retina. Even on a classic MacBook Pro free place can be expanded up to 1 TB on SSD.

You will also probably be upset by the operational MacBook memory Air, which is stuck at 8GB, while the MacBook Pro Retina has 16GB of RAM.

Weak video card

Airborne laptops only have built-in Intel HD Graphics 5000, which cannot compete with the same built-in Intel Iris Graphics, much less compete NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M MacBook Pro. So if you like advanced computer games, you really should think about buying a more powerful computer.

MacBook Air Retina coming soon

Rumors persistently tell us that this Apple year should release a 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina display. So some Mac fans prefer to wait until better times to buy a laptop. The appearance of a high-resolution screen will certainly affect battery performance, but an “airy” laptop can become even more attractive to users of Apple products.

If you decide to join the “Apple” army, then you must first decide what each of the devices is and what it was created for. Company Apple has already has been producing PCs of both model lines for a long time, functionality, ergonomics, etc. have been adapted to user requests different categories. Laptops were created for those who need a computer outside the home or office, all-in-one computers, on the contrary, are needed for stationary use And permanent job. Specialists from the company Bikompakt helped to understand the specifics of the issue.

What is a MacBook and why do you need it?

MacBook is a series of laptops from Apple. They are fundamentally different from laptops from other companies. The small size of the screen immediately catches your eye - the classic size is 15.6 inches. In turn, the MacBook series is equipped with 12-inch screens, and the MacBook Pro is 13.3 inches. All this makes Apple laptops great mobile solution, however, it will be inconvenient to work constantly behind a small screen.

It is also worth noting that MacBooks have very weak processors. If we were talking about Windows OS, then the frequency of 1200 MHz on two cores would be critically low. But OSx is specially designed for devices of this configuration, and there will be no performance problems. However, if you are going to do video or audio processing, then take a closer look at models from Pro line, they are more powerful.

MacBook and MacBook Pro are primarily mobile work station. It is suitable if you need a computer outside the home. Such laptops are easy to carry; their weight does not exceed one kilogram with battery. However, the Pro series models can weigh up to two kilograms due to their greater power.

Separately, it is worth noting the models of the MacBook Air series; they have an extremely capacious battery and compact sizes (11- and 13-inch screen). It is also worth saying that they differ in their price - these are the cheapest laptops from Apple. Unfortunately, the filling suffers because of this. You won't be able to run very powerful programs, they were developed only for comfortable surfing the Internet and working in simple office applications.

The iMac is a compact desktop PC. Such all-in-one PCs cannot be carried like laptops due to the lack of a battery. But they were not originally created for mobility, but to take up minimal space on the desktop. In fact, when connecting such a device, you don’t have to dig through the wires like you would with a regular PC; just plug the power cord into a power outlet and everything will work. For most models in included wireless mouse+keyboard set.

iMacs are much more powerful than their mobile counterparts, they can handle really... complex tasks. Also worth noting is the huge screen of 21.5 inches and 27 inches depending on the model. Working on it all the time is a pleasure. As already mentioned, the power of all-in-one PCs from Apple is much higher than that of laptops from their own production. This is because a larger desktop PC can be cooled better. Also, the monoblock does not have to be economical; it does not depend on the battery.

Almost all models except the top-end Apple iMac MK482RU/A are equipped with very mediocre processors. However, the operating system was configured specifically for such power and you will not see glitches, delays, etc. on Apple computers.

Video card

This parameter is significant mostly for games. But they are not yet adapted to OSx platforms, at least not all and not always. So the video card remains an insignificant element in the system. For this reason, even modest integrated graphics cannot be considered a disadvantage.

Screen

Exactly this strong place all Apple products - they equip almost all of their devices, including iMac and MacBook, with screens with a huge expansion. This affects the picture quality and image detail. If we talk about iMacs, they can be used for image editing, photo processing and more. This will also help you touch screen, which is found on some high-end iMac models.

Ergonomics

iMac and MacBook are very compact in size and were designed to take up as little space as possible.

  • Apple laptops are better solution For mobile office. They are very thin, only 13 mm thick classic models and 25 mm - Pro series. They can hold a charge for up to seven hours, while delivering good power.
  • iMacs take up minimal desk space because they combine system unit and monitor. As mentioned above, only one wire is needed for connection. This is a stylish stationary solution for the office and home.

Conclusion: iMac and MacBook, which to choose?

If you need mobile station with all possible functions, then your choice is laptops from Apple. But if you plan to work for a long time in the office or at home, then it is better to buy a candy bar. iMacs are much more powerful than their mobile counterparts and have huge screens with cosmic resolution.

The MacBook, in turn, holds a charge for a long time and fits into any bag, since it is no larger in size than an A4 folder. Light weight, thickness and compact dimensions make these laptops indispensable for long trips and business trips. If you need a small and compact model, take a look at the MacBook Air series.

Apple's presentation has just ended, and we have already prepared a detailed report. We've rounded up everything you need to know about the MacBook Pro.

Otherwise, there are 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports with USB-C support.

“Computers are not needed, everything can be done on the phone, laptops are doomed, people don’t buy them anymore” - such remarks often prompt one to think about whether a computer or laptop is needed for work? Isn’t it easier to limit yourself to something really compact, light and mobile? Today I want to tell the story of my friend Sergei. It's interesting because it's not a fictional story, not mine. creative ideas, and the most life-like situation.

This article was published on our website at the end of 2016. In honor of the 10th anniversary of the MacBook Air, I decided to “raise” the material and remind you of this wonderful device.

Seryozha, tell the readers a little about yourself. You are currently developing a project with quadcopters; you were looking for a device to work with, as I understand it?

Yes, my partners and I are developing a business in the field of industrial inspection using UAVs - that is, we take aerial photographs of all sorts of pipes, towers and antennas from a drone, and then analyze them. I perform functions general director, and therefore my main friends are the post office, Google Drive, Keynote and Telegram. I don’t use any specific software - my colleagues do this.

I have at my disposal a powerful PC with a Core i7 6700K and 32 gigs of RAM, but, firstly, it’s still not a mobile computer, despite the mini-ITX format, and secondly, we need it to create orthomosaics, so I can’t clog it up Don't want. And most importantly, I simply can’t live without a Mac; I’m too used to the comfort, smoothness and numerous features of this system.

my working system there was a MacBook Air 11 Mid 2014 - that is, already modern laptop with SSD and the necessary ports. At home and at work, he lived with an external monitor and keyboard.

Considering my scenarios, I didn’t experience any problems with performance. Yosemite worked quite quickly on it, considering that my computer is absolutely clean - I store all the data in the “clouds”. I didn’t even want to change it, but, let’s just say, by chance I accidentally “gifted” it to my ex-girlfriend.

The iPad, as far as I remember, had a small amount of memory, but with LTE? Still, memory is not as important as the freedom to go online anywhere? Watching videos or photos on a tablet doesn’t matter, isn’t there time for that?

I figured it out and decided that the iPad 4 mini 16 GB would fit my scenarios quite well. Yes, I was primarily concerned with performance (that's why I chose the fourth generation) and stable connection to the Internet. We didn’t care about the amount of memory at all - all working documentation is stored on Google Drive. Photos and videos are sometimes needed (including for work), but, again, they feel great in the Google Photos cloud.

How quickly did you realize that the tablet was not up to the task? Didn’t you manage to try it at the store or through friends? I myself advised you to buy a tablet, so I am indirectly guilty of your worries.

The Novosibirsk re:Store explained that they couldn’t install my programs on the tablet - all the equipment was strictly tied to the account of the company itself, the guys in the room didn’t even know the login and password for this Apple ID. But the consultant took pity on me and put Google Docs And Google Sheets to your 6S Plus. I tried editing the documents, I liked it, and I went to the checkout with iPad mini 4. At the same time I bought a case and, already in another place, a compact Bluetooth keyboard Logitech K380 - it just cost three times less than Apple’s.

Everything became clear quite quickly. Euphoria from new toy passed in a couple of days, the harsh workdays began. In Yandex.Browser there are 7-10 tabs with “heavy” pages - these are mainly corporate sites of our competitors from the USA and Europe and useful articles from international journals. From the browser I constantly switch to Google Drive to edit or add documents. Then Telegram - corporate chat and friends. Notes in Google Keep- with To-Do lists.

When it all worked at full capacity, the iPad began to simply unload applications from memory. I jump into Keep in the hope of looking at the note - and it reloads the application and forces me to look for that same note somewhere at the bottom again. The browser, in turn, simply cannot stand it and catches the freeze. I reboot the system and everything is new.

But that's not so bad - I discovered a very annoying glitch that completely destroyed all my dreams of efficiency. The fact is that when switching languages on the external keyboard (by default it’s Ctrl+spacebar), a banner popped up on the iPad’s screen, which just showed that I had switched to another language. But immediately after switching the language, I started tapping on the keys, and the iPad recognized this as switching back. That is, you want to write - “let's buy a 3D Robotics frame and T-motor engines”, but it turns out “let's buy a 3D Robotics frame and T-motor engines”. This was only cured by forcing the printer to stop printing for two seconds after switching languages.

Well, what finally finished me off was the lack of screenless Copy-Paste. That is, for the simplest “Copy-Paste” I had to lift my hands from the keyboard, reach for the screen with one hand (while holding the iPad itself with the other hand so that it does not fall), then press twice Home button, look for the omnibox where I want to paste what I copied, then look for the paste button at the bottom of the iPad screen... ugh. On a Mac, this is three shortcuts and 2 seconds of time.

There were many other annoying little things - it was impossible to insert a file into a third-party mail application, the lack of an open file system as such, and problems with editing simple tables in Excel. And where in the system is the analogue of Cmd+Z? How can you live without this?

It would seem that the tasks (and applications) were absolutely banal and not resource-intensive, but what killed the iPad in my eyes was its absolute inability to multitask - and the work of most people with a computer, if we are not talking about specialized specialists, is exactly like that - multitasking and “selective” . It's probably great for watching TV series and being on social networks.

Did it take a long time to sell your tablet? He was completely new.

He was only two weeks old. I offered it for a rather tasty price - 32,000 rubles. versus 40,000 rubles for which I bought it along with a branded magnetic case. A buyer was found within six hours - a WoT fan with a new glossy black “Seven” in his pocket. He said that it was inconvenient for him to play his favorite “tanks” on an iPhone, so he decided to consider an iPad. The iPad is just right for his “scenario,” I think.

Why the new Air? There's just a terrible screen, it would be better if there weren't any connectors, but they installed another display.

First I will answer emotionally - because this is love. My previous eleven-inch Air and I did a hundred projects, traveled to a bunch of countries and even survived its fall from a height of more than a meter onto concrete (that’s when I really believed in it). I remember typing on it while standing on the subway a couple of times. Well, how can you not fall in love? This is a reliable, unpretentious and fast laptop that will last for a good 3-4 years.

But seriously, as a person who now works for himself, I have learned to count every penny. Am I ready to pay twice as much for the novelty of a new firmware? Or 30,000 rubles. from above behind the “retina” of the old one? I immediately remember that at home and at work I mostly work with an external FullHD IPS monitor. Of course, Retina is very cool and a carnal pleasure for the eyes, but, returning to my scripts, I am not a photographer, not a designer, or even a cinephile to pay extra for it.

And the Air 13 is the only MacBook that can live without a power outlet for 13 hours. That is, I can work “in the fields” all day long without experiencing any problems. When will the bugs be able to do this? I think after two more generations of Intel processors, but not before.

For work, I would look for a used firmware with a retina from 14 years old, didn’t you want a used one in principle?

Beu is bue. I don’t know what the person did with him. Maybe he never left Pornhub. And I just want new car(and live with her until her death). And yes, I completely forgot to mention, 1.6 kg is too heavy for me. It's a matter of convenience. I raise the air in the palm of my hand and show the presentation to clients while standing. And to do this on a bike you have to go to the gym for a year.

What are your plans now, do you think you’ll be wearing Air until you get tired of it?

I haven't bought it yet. And, remarkably, in the context of laptops, I don’t have the concept of “getting bored” at all. How can you get tired of a cleaver or a typewriter? A working (really working) tool can only break. I'm planning to buy Air 13, Apple keyboard Magic Keyboard (I want to get used to it in advance) new design) and, perhaps, a trackpad and live with all this equipment until the end of 2019. And then we'll see - look, Cook will take pity on mere mortals and return at least MagSafe and the divine light from the apple on the lid to the new firmware.

You can send me your thoughts and wishes by email. [email protected].

An interesting statement from a user with 10 messages in Japanese.

but on topic. I always viewed apple fans with a grin until I accidentally became the owner myself. Damn, goodbye brakes and freezes.

Yes, in general, these communists have gone crazy! Democracy is in danger!

On this topic - Sony Vaio near Vista, bought in the fall of 2008, it only glitches when one frame sits behind it.

And it works perfectly and without brakes. As comrade kompart already said, there’s more on PiSyuki available applications and, because They are very widely used; it is more convenient to store Windows formats.

For me, Mac is just a touchingly funny show-off for the coolest, most modern and advanced guys. May Jobs fans praying for an iPhone forgive me?

Apple produces two classes of MacBooks:

MacBook Air is very thin, less powerful, but more portable and lightweight. Models with screen diagonals of 11.6 and 13.3 inches are available. MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro) – positioned for professional activity; more powerful but less portable. Models with screen diagonals of 13 and 15 inches are available.

The MacBook is very well made. It's beautiful and a pleasure to work on. The MacBook Air is also extremely light and thin.

MacBook running on operating system Mac OS. It is considered stable, reliable, simple and easy to use.

MacOS is by no means a perfect system [. ]. But when comparing MacOS to Windows, the former wins by a huge margin - it just works.

Source: MacBooks vs. Windows Laptops – Crushing Score

You don’t need to set up a MacBook for a long time, install drivers, or be distracted by pop-up windows.

1) no viruses. They simply DO NOT exist. Surprisingly, for the vast majority of users this is the most critical advantage. Poor users...

2) the operating system is very intuitive in a “female” way: girls in 99 cases out of 100 like the logic of MacOS: poke and guess. It’s not like that with Windows: there certain users there are many questions.

3) pretentious appearance, an element of fetish, there will be no shame, because everyone knows that you bought an expensive thing, and even more so in some way exclusive.

Personally, over the many years of MAC’s existence, I could not persuade myself to buy it at least once: it’s primarily in the operating room Mac system OS, which for me is terribly unintuitive (everything is not at hand) and too limited. In addition, some of the developments that feed me are directly related to applications that work exclusively in windows environment. Well, the most banal thing is that I don’t.

One port for everything. The new MacBook has only one USB port. He's new USB-C type. This is a very fast and symmetrical port. It will be impossible to insert a flash drive into this one incorrectly. Charging also goes through it. Why Apple abandoned large number nests? The fact is that the Cupertino company is pushing users to use cloud technologies And wireless connections. This means you no longer need a printer or a flash drive. External monitor also connects via USB-C. Mouse and external keyboard, if needed, connect via Bluetooth.

The new MacBook does not have a cooler! This is really good news. Now the laptop will not make noise. This became possible only with the use of new Intel processors fifth generation on the Broadwell platform. The most important advantage of these chips is the heat dissipation of about 4-5 W. That's why the fan new MacBook and no.

I think it’s worth it even for three non-main(!) reasons - if you:

3. Have financial resources

MacOs is practically no different for a competent user.

There are no disadvantages in the hardware and software, it’s not for nothing that 3D designers mostly use them - but Vista slows down “frail” computers)

Apple - does everything so elegantly and coolly that you want to create;) They are geniuses - these people from Apple. Believe me!

And then why choose, since there is Apple!

Good luck.) If you are happy with everything in the Windows platform, then what is the point of turning your attention to Mac. If you just want new sensations, then take it. I think the advantages are:

Distinctive design, the main and still unresolved disadvantage of MacBooks is the price. On average, a MacBook Pro costs $2000-2500, while a similarly equipped PC beech is one and a half to two times cheaper. It's worth buying the apple giant's products.

Apple creates amazing gadgets that are popular all over the world. However, in the CIS countries the standard of living is several points lower than the European or Western average. And therefore, when buying a device, users expect full performance. Price category/computer capabilities. This is logical, because even when choosing a mini-laptop you need to approach the issue seriously. It must be functional and correspond to its price by every possible percentage. The question of whether it’s worth buying a MacBook Air or not is difficult to answer precisely because the concepts of price and quality vary too much in social circles.

If in Europe you have an expensive and mobile gadget, or even several, is the norm even for the most ordinary people, then they try to buy one thing from us that will meet all the user’s needs. How to choose a device?

We propose to consider 5 reasons against the purchase, considering the situation specifically with.

MacBook Air, like all Apple products, is of excellent workmanship. It's thin, light and incredibly portable. But even with all its advantages, it may not be the right all-purpose computer for you. Let's try to figure out what reasons might stop you from buying an air laptop.

Despite numerous rumors that the MacBook Air will soon also have a Retina display, so far no airborne laptop has a high-resolution screen. The 11-inch model has a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, while the 13-inch has a resolution of 1,440 x 900 pixels. By comparison, the 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, while the 15-inch offers 2880 x 1800 pixels.

Of course, you might not want a screen with that resolution, which will consume a lot more power and drain your battery faster.

After it appeared in stores, the first thing people started talking about was its glamor. Many believed that this laptop was exclusively for girls who were ready to bend over backwards in order to show their involvement in high society. Others shouted that the Macbook Air is a breakthrough in the world of laptops and if given the opportunity to buy it, many would give any money for this device. But is it worth it?

The first thing I want to do is give credit to Apple designers. They did a great job. What can I say? Few people can criticize the Macbook Air laptop in terms of design. Only positive reviews towards Apple. The laptop has already been dubbed not only a technical breakthrough, but the most glamorous thing for avid fashionistas. Someone even said that this is the most ideal thing for housewives. But where is this good? Is it worth paying $1,799 to have a Macbook Air sit and gather dust at home? It's best to take it somewhere in the morning to a cafe and...

I won't say whether it's worth it or not. It's up to you to decide. but I will note that:

1. the opinion that Macs are more expensive than PCs is not relevant now, at least when compared with other brands (and laptops assembled by students in the basement do not exist on the market), then sometimes Macs will turn out to be even cheaper.

I was always touched by the phrases “while a beech PC with similar configuration is one and a half to two times cheaper.” because in reality there is nothing behind them. Yes, if you look at Dellu2013a laptops, then Macs will be more expensive, if you look at Sony, then Macs will be cheaper.

2. after Apple switched to Intel 2013 preprocessors, there is no longer any compatibility problem. those. In addition to OSX, you can install Windows and (or) Linux on a Mac

3. “Service if necessary will also cost a pretty penny”

These are the words of a person who has never dealt with Macs. Apple has a world-wide warranty. this means that if you buy a beech tree in the states, you will have it repaired, free of charge, in Russia.

2 GB of RAM is not enough for surfing on Mavericks, especially since the graphics are powered by RAM. Maybe it’s better to buy some kind of tablet?

Mavericks can’t be installed, Apple simply doesn’t make new updates for it anymore, while it seems like they continue to support models since 2008..

I have a tablet.

the price is captivating, newer MacBooks from 2008-2009 cost at least 2 times more, and the percentage is the same dual core, if you take the percentage of the new generation, and there the prices are almost the same as for new ones.

Friends, thank you! Until tomorrow I’ll think about it and decide, after playing around for a year or two, then I can give it to a village or to a dacha.

Time flies quickly, and several years have already passed since the purchase of your favorite Mas. Years of trouble-free operation are behind us and now the once great new computer has become a veteran, on which it is impossible to install new applications or connect purchased ones mobile devices. I don’t want to part with the old man due to habit and respect for quality. So, if you have an Apple computer 2-3 years old, then soon you will be faced with the question: buy a new computer or update the old one? Everyone must decide this for themselves, and in the course of reflection it is a good idea to analyze the pros and cons of all possible options.

In general, there can be only two solutions, and both options depend on the age of the computer. If you decide to switch to the more modern OS X Lion instead of Snow Leopard, then after installing it on your old Mac, you will most likely encounter problems with the speed of the system. So the owner of the old and faithful Mas has two options: spend the money.

I really like it, it’s convenient, although I certainly don’t use all the functions)

I didn’t buy anything from the Apple Store, I downloaded everything from the Internet, you can find almost everything. the only thing I don't really like is my text editor(open office), after all, Microsoft office was more convenient and familiar. but you can find another one, I just didn’t bother about it)

and so it depends on what you use. I have a laptop to surf the Internet, watch a movie, write an abstract, I’m not doing anything super complicated here)

oh, I remembered another huge plus - it’s very easy to set up desired language. I needed Japanese - I just checked the box in the right place - and here I got Japanese) on Windows I struggled with this for a long time.

Topic: MacBook VS MacBookPro

mistix MacBook VS MacBookPro:

and let the mortal combat begin 😉

In general, I am a PC user. I've been wanting to touch a poppy for a long time. Now I'm using MacOS X 10.4.6 on an IBM R52. In January I would like to buy myself something from poppies. the choice falls on either a MacBook or a MacBook Pro. What would be more rational for solving the following problems:

1) Internet, Internet, Internet (http,ftp,torrent)

2) watching dvd, listening to music (viewing both on a beech and output to a TV)

3) will be constantly on the go (home-work-home)

4) at work: easy layout in indeign cs2, photoshop. Also apple remote desktop and so on. software for ease of administration.

5) microsoft office 2004 (word = ala typewriter, excel in detail)

6) simple video editing (home video = capture, easy editing, output to DVD)
