How to unpack rar archive. How to open a RAR file on Android and iOS mobile devices. Unpack using Winrar

A popular way to store and send information over a network is to use WinRAR files, so the issue of extracting archived content from them is very relevant. Below are instructions for solving it.

What kind of archive is this?

Information archived with a special program called “WinRAR” takes up less memory on the computer and media, and also saves traffic during transmission over the network. You can also make the archive password-protected, that is, protect the information inside it.

If the user is faced with a limitation in the size of files sent or stored on disks, multi-volume archives are created using the application. However, such broken files then you need to put it together. The following describes methods for unpacking an archive file created by the WinRaR utility.

Information compressed by Winrar can be extracted not only by the native program, but also by other archivers. It should be noted that proprietary tools operating system are unable to unpack such files.

Therefore, you need to install programs designed for these purposes on Windows or MAC computers. This also applies mobile platforms, for example, to extract information from archives on Android device, installation is also required special application, which will be discussed below, or install one of the shell programs with built-in archivers.

An example of one of the most popular program is " Total Commander", but often for ordinary users such a “combine”, stuffed with numerous utilities, can be unnecessary.

Therefore, first of all, it is recommended to use the free and small program “7-Zip”.

7-Zip

This utility has a good track record in the form of numerous positive feedback a significant army of her fans around the world.

It is available for installation on official resource developer. After installing the application, solving the question of how to open WinRaR archive, will not be difficult.

For this purpose, the archive of interest is required to expand the context window and hover the cursor over the line with the name of the installed archiver.

After this, a list of actions that it can perform with the file will appear. If the user wants to unzip it, he will need to click “unpack”. In this case, the contents of the file will be copied to the directory specified by the user.

If you need to quickly extract all the information into the same directory where the archive is stored, you should click on the line below “Unpack here”. The utility is so easy to use that it does not require prior study of instructions for working with it.

A person may even forget that he needs to right-click on the archive and in a hurry double-click on it, as if regular file. As a result, a utility window will be displayed, in which you just need to click “Extract”.

The application menu is intuitive and rarely leaves anyone wondering about what to do next.

WinRAR

The application has a built-in analyzer that can automatic mode select the mechanism and order of file compression and extraction.

After installing the application from the developer’s official source, you can use it for free for just over a month. Unfortunately, from the moment the trial period expires, a window will appear with an offer to buy it.

The process of working with the application is similar to that described above for 7-Zip, that is, just right-click on the archive.

Next select required by the user action. For beginners, it is recommended to click on the line “Extract to current folder"so you don't have to search all over your computer for the extracted material. If the archive protected by code, you will be required to enter a password.

For advanced users, the “Extract files” option will be more interesting. As a result, a menu with flexible settings actions, including, for example, manually specifying the location of the files to be unpacked.

If there is a damaged compressed file, it is recommended to check the appropriate box.

The program provides convenient tools for working in the application window itself.

Available in the main program window preview archive contents, as well as selective retrieval and opening of documents.

Hamster Lite Archiver

A small and free utility"Hamster." It does a good job of unpacking not only files with the “rar” extension, but also many other archives.

To extract information from the archive, you just need to right-click and specify the desired action.

The operations performed are similar to the previous descriptions. Beginners are recommended to use the “Extract Here” action, since after selecting it, the extraction will be carried out directly into the current directory. If you launch the window of the utility itself, the user is greeted by a friendly interface in Russian.

Just click the “Unarchive” virtual key and specify the location on your computer for the extracted data.

PeaZip

This is her from best utilities to extract files packed with WinRar. It can function without installation, that is, you can run it directly from a flash drive.

A special modification of the utility for Windows can be built into the Explorer menu, which greatly facilitates the work when the user often has to deal with files with the “rar” extension.

Aesthetes will love the ease of customization appearance application and the ability to make its interface transparent.

Universal Extractor

If the archiver installed on your PC cannot cope with extracting from some rare archive with an unpopular compression type, then this universal extractor will come to the rescue.

Of course, the utility also works well with files created by WinRAR.

ExtractNow

The advantage of this extractor is the speed of completing the task; for example, it can extract information simultaneously from several compressed files with one click.

The user only needs to drag the files he needs into the extractor menu or right-click on them directly in the Explorer window.

Extracting information from multi-volume archives

In cases where one heavy archive is divided into a number of small ones, the main condition for successful unpacking of such multi-volume archive is the presence of all its components.

If at least one file is lost, it will no longer be possible to unzip.

The procedure for extracting data is practically no different from those described above. You need to perform unpacking steps with the 1st volume, the next volumes will be unpacked automatically. Sometimes, in addition to volumes, there is also additional file

, which appears in Explorer as a simple archive. In this case, the context menu must be called from it. It should be noted that if a multi-volume archive is made using the WinRAR application, then archivers from other developers will not be able to cope with its unpacking, and in order to correctly extract the information you will need to use native program

"WinRAR". ZIP file is one of the most archiving files. Therefore, sooner or later all users encounter ZIP files. In this article we will look at two ways to unpack a ZIP file on a computer running the Windows operating system.

Method No. 1. Unpacking ZIP file using the built-in archiver.

The Windows operating system has a built-in ZIP archiver that can be used to unpack a ZIP file. This method unpacking a ZIP file is convenient because you do not need to install any additional programs on your computer to use it.

So, in order to unpack a ZIP file using the built-in archiver, you just need to open the ZIP file double click with the left mouse button (or by right-clicking and the “Open” command).

After this, the ZIP file will open as a regular folder. If you pay attention to address bar, it will indicate that you are viewing the contents of your ZIP file.

Once the ZIP file has opened as a folder, its contents can be copied to any other folder on your computer. To do this, you can simply drag the files with the left mouse button or use copying via CTRL+C/CTRL+V.

If, when you try to open a ZIP file, it does not open as a folder, but instead some other program starts, then you can use the Open With menu and select Explorer.

After this, the ZIP file will open as a folder and you can unpack it as described above.

Method No. 2. Unpack the ZIP file using free archiver.

Another way to extract a ZIP file on your computer is to use a free archiver. The most popular and well-known is the 7-zip program. Therefore, we will consider it further.

Download this program from the official website (link) and install it on your computer. After installation, the “7-Zip” section will appear in the files context menu. By using this section in the context menu you can unpack ZIP files, as well as archives of other popular formats. If you select the “Extract here” menu item, the contents of the ZIP file will be unpacked in the same folder where the ZIP file itself is located. If you select “Extract to...”, then a separate folder and the contents of the ZIP file will be unpacked there.

You can also select the “Unpack” option. In this case, a small window will open in which you can select the folder into which you want to unpack the selected Zip file.

Another option is to open the Zip file in the 7-Zip program interface. In this case, you will be able to choose which files you want to unpack and which not. To do this you need to select necessary files and click on the “Extract” button.

After this, a window will open in which you need to select the folder into which you want to unpack the contents of the Zip file.

After selecting the folder, you need to click on the “Ok” button and the files will be unpacked.

Archiving is a popular and effective option folder compression and different files, which helps reduce their volume. The resulting document can be shared with other users, copied, and, if necessary, unzipped to extract the contents. U inexperienced users problems arise, below are several ways to unzip files from different formats.

What is a file archiver

This special program, which is necessary for data compression. For this they use special algorithm, which reduces the size of files. Archive – a container with packed documents. The archiver works in reverse side and can extract information from volumes. Why use archiving:

  1. Saving. When archiving, you save space on your hard drive, the volume is reduced tenfold. Sometimes the archive does not compress the data.
  2. Convenience. When transferring data over the Internet, a problem often arises that the service does not send the entire folder and offers to do this with each file separately. Through the file archive, you can send all the data at once.
  3. Long-term storage. Use rar/zip volume systems to create backup copies important databases. This is reliable and convenient when there is 1 backup copy in 1 file.

This is the process of extracting from a packed volume necessary information. The algorithm has the ability to unpack the entire data or extract individual data from it. You can perform the procedure using different instruments. Some of them are built right into the Windows or Mac operating system, some are third party programs software (paid or free).

Using archivers

Simple and convenient option There will be special programs that can pack and unpack files. They are called archivers, they are able to work with a certain data format, but certain versions of the software recognize all types of packed data. The archive is unpacked using the following means:

Free utility Hamster Lite Archiver

It is modern, comfortable and simple program With clear interface. It can be downloaded for free, but use trusted resources for this and do not download the application from dubious sites. The utility works with ZIP and RAR extensions. Install the application on your computer using the executable file. After that, in your context menu when you click right click click on the packaged volume, additional items will appear (they are written on English language, but the program itself is in Russian):

  • Extract files – when clicked, a dialog box will appear;
  • Extract Here – unpack data into the same folder where the volume is located;
  • Extract to – you can select where to extract the contents of the volume.

How to unzip a file

If a packed volume with data has arrived on your computer, you will not be able to open it without special programs. The exception is the ZIP format, which is compatible with the built-in Windows decompression tool. In other cases, you will need to install one of the utilities for working with archives. There are two types of utilities for working with volumes:

  1. Add new items to the context menu by right-clicking, through which content is retrieved.
  2. They launch their own environment where they need to upload a file and can unpack it, run it, or write it to another medium (flash drive, disk).

The program is widely used when it is necessary to unpack rar archive format. It’s better to download it from the official website; you can select the language to use right there (Russian is available). The installation is simple: run the executable file, specify the directory where to install the application. The archiver is distributed on a paid basis, but you can try it for the first 40 days without paying. After this time, the utility still works, but an annoying window constantly pops up reminding you to purchase WinRAR.

After installation, additional items appear in the context menu using RMB (right mouse button). When clicked you will find the following options:

  • Extract files – a window with unpacking options will appear;
  • Extract to current folder – all content from the top will go to the same directory where the archive is located;
  • Extract to – helps to unpack data into new folder with a name like the archive.

It's easier to use the last and penultimate option. When you select the first item, you will need to specify the location where to unzip the files through a dialog box. This option opens some additional features, For example:

  1. Extract and replace files. If the folder already contains documents with the same name, they will be replaced with data from the volume.
  2. Extract from update. In this case, old documents will be overwritten with new ones (with the latest date).
  3. Update only existing ones. This option will extract only the data that is already in the folder, the rest will remain in the volume.

Archiver 7-Zip and WinZip

There are several formats that are used when compressing documents. Together with RAR file ZIP packaging is widely used. In essence, it is the same processed and packaged volume of information. To unpack the ZIP you need to use WinZip program, which is very similar to WinRar both in functionality and distribution system ( trial period and then payment). All Windows owners can use the system's built-in tool to extract data from a ZIP archive.

Another option for working with this archive format is 7-zip. This is a free program that is popular and allows you to fully work with packed documents. Download the utility from the official website and go through the installation process. After installation in additional menu you will have new options for working with ZIP files. The options for unpacking are the same as those already described above:

  • unpack into...;
  • unpack here...;
  • unpack...

The program has own environment for work, which can be launched through the executive file after installation. You can choose directly from it necessary files for unpacking and exclude those that are not needed. Simply use the CTRL button to highlight the required archives and click the “Extract” button. Next will appear additional window, where you can gently indicate the place where to unpack the data.

Features of extracting SFX archives

There is a separate and unique archive format - self-extracting. They are called SFX and have the Exe extension after the dot. The essence of such packaging is that it contains the volume itself archival part, so special code. Thanks to this, he is able to independently unpack the contents, additional programs are not needed for this. This is very convenient format, if the computer has a fresh system and there is no unzipping application yet. Sometimes this format is used by attackers to silently install malware along with other programs.

When it is necessary to compress, pack a large number of data, information from the disk so that it can be launched later, they use the ISO archive format. You can unpack it with any archiver described above (WinRar, WinZIPm 7-zip). You just need to right-click on it and select the extraction option that suits you. At double click on the file you will see the contents of the image. You can unzip all documents completely or select individual ones and extract them.

There is a special program that belongs to the group of professional tools for working with ISO files. The application allows you to unpack the image, mount it into a drive, create archives and perform other actions with the archive. The utility is called UltraISO, a Trial version is available for review, then you need to pay for it. To work with the program, use these instructions:

  1. Install the application on your computer and launch it.
  2. Open necessary image using the “File” item, then “Open”. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+O.
  3. Select the contents of the image and right-click. A menu will appear where you need to click on the “Extract” line.
  4. Select the directory where the information will be copied and wait until the program completes unpacking.

A simple archiver for extracting files

Starting from operating version 7 Windows systems during installation you have the opportunity to open any archives with ZIP extension. To do this, you do not need to download additional programs or utilities. The built-in tool of the system recognizes the archive and can unpack it independently, but this only applies to the ZIP format; it will not be able to process RAR. To extract files you need:

  1. Right-click on the packed volume.
  2. Find the line “Extract all...” in the menu and click on it.
  3. A new dialog box will appear, specify the path where to unpack the contents.
  4. If you check the box next to the “Show extracted files” option, then after the unzipping procedure a folder with unpacked documents will appear.
  5. If you wish, you can not extract the contents and run the document directly from the archive.

An emulator program to create an image of the source disk

To work with complex archives that not only contain individual documents, but also act as a complete copy of the installation or boot disk, emulator programs are used. An example of such an application can be considered UltraISO or Daemon discussed above Tools Lite. Latest utility distributed in a stripped-down version for free, the developers offer to download it to try it out standard features.

You can unpack the contents when help Daemon Tools or create virtual drive and “paste” the image into it. Latest version The utility automatically sends the image to the drive. Next, just go to my computer, find virtual disk from the list, double-click on it. You will see the contents of the image and can use it as you wish, as if you had a real CD inserted.

Features of the procedure

Situations may arise in which it is not possible to unpack the archive immediately. For example, the creator can set a password on it so that only people have access to it. proxies. Some problems could also arise during archiving of documents and some of them would be damaged. The programs have built-in functionality by default to solve these problems. Options for overcoming these difficulties are discussed below.

The password is set at the archive creation stage and you will need to enter it to unarchive. Differences in retrieving such data in different programs No. The main thing is that without knowing the password you will not be able to “get” the contents, an error will simply pop up. This type of archive in a directory has additional icon asterisk, which indicates its protection. If you have access to the volume, then you can unpack it using the standard algorithm:

  1. Right-click on the volume and click “Extract”.
  2. Next, a window will appear where you must enter a password. If you don't know the code, then at this stage you will stop.
  3. After entering the password, click the “OK” button and the data will be extracted to the specified folder.

Unpacking a damaged archive

When packaging or copying data from the Internet, an error may have occurred within the archive. With standard unpacking, the program will issue a warning. That the procedure cannot be carried out. To copy the necessary information, you must check the box next to “Keep on disk” corrupted files" The archive will open and be extracted, then you can try to restore the missing documents. If it is music or video, then you will be able to play them, but their performance depends on the degree of damage.

Too much for separation large volumes use several small ones. As a rule, they have a serial designation, for example: .z01, .z02, .z03 or Part1, Part2, Part3. To extract data from multi-volume archives, all parts must be available. If there are only 5 parts, and you lost 3 or 4 somewhere, then you won’t be able to complete the process and fully use the contents. You can unpack the contents according to the instructions described above, but you should always start from the first part

In the usual way extract the information and the remaining volumes will be unzipped automatically. If the package contains a volume without a number, then you should start with it, it will be the basic one. Keep in mind that to work with multi-volume archives, you need the program in which they were created. If packaging was done using WinRAR, then extraction must be done through it; this cannot be done using WinZIP.

Good time everyone!

It would seem that archive is a simple file that can be worked with in the same way as with others. But quite a lot of questions have always arisen about them ☺...

At all,archive- This compressed file, which can contain any other folders and files: pictures, documents, and even other archives (such a tautology). Before using any file from the archive, it must be extracted from it (although now there are programs that allow, for example, viewing photos from archives without extracting them (we’re talking about ACDSee)) .

For normal operation with archives (without so-called crutches ☺) a special program is needed - archiver. True, in modern Windows versions there is already a built-in function (but to call it a normal archiver is a no-brainer)...

Below we will consider what and how exactly to do. Also below I have provided a link to an article with the best archivers. I recommend that you choose an archiver 7-Zip- it is free and multifunctional. I’ll show my examples there!

Analogues of WinRAR: free archivers for Windows -

How to unpack RAR, ZIP, etc. archive.

Method No. 1: for ZIP archives

If you are dealing with a ZIP format archive, then you don’t even need to install an additional archiver (in modern Windows 7/8/10 there is already a function for working with the ZIP format. True, although it works crookedly, it is still there ...☺).

In general, by default, Explorer does not show the extension of files, but pay attention to the archive icon in Windows - (and the description of the file - compressed ZIP folder, in the "Type" column (turn on table view files in Explorer)). This compressed ZIP folder, as Windows labels it, is ZIP archive. To extract it, you need to: right-click on the file, then select from the context menu "Extract all..." (see screenshot below).

Method No. 2: for RAR, 7Z and other formats

As I said above, it is much more convenient to work with specialized programs- archivists. Firstly, they extract and pack files faster (they have better algorithms); secondly, they see and can extract almost all archive formats (not just ZIP); thirdly, they have additional functions, for example, or set a password (so that no one can read your files in the archive).

A simple, free and convenient archiver for Windows. After installation, it is very neatly built into Explorer and allows you to extract all data from any of the most common archives in 1-2 mouse clicks: 7Z, RAR, GZ, ZIP, CAB, ACE, etc.

Now, when you go to the folder with the archives, you will see that visual icons have appeared on them - it has become easy to distinguish them from other files (note the numbers and letters on these icons: 7 is 7Z format, R is RAR format, Z is the ZIP format) .

To extract files, just right-click on the archive, then select “7-Zip --> Unpack here” from the context menu. That's all! The archive will begin to be extracted.

Note: There are also other options available in the Explorer context menu: just open the archive, test it, or even send it by mail!

How to archive a folder or file

So... The issue of unpacking, I think, is closed, it remains to resolve the issue of "packing" ☺. In general, most often you need to pack files that you want to send over the network, that take up too much space on your disk (and you rarely use them), or that you want to protect with a password (so that no one can read the data in such an archive). I will consider all these options below.

In the simplest and most common case, to make an archive from a folder or file, right-click on this folder and select from the menu "7-Zip --> Add to archive..." (note: I think you have 7-Zip installed) .

  1. archive format: this determines how much your files will be compressed in it. Most best option today - 7Z (compresses more than ZIP or RAR);
  2. compression level: most high level“Ultra” (if there are a lot of files, it may take a long time to pack).

Actually, when you have set the parameters, all you have to do is click OK and wait for the operation to complete.

Add to archive (you need to set basic settings)

Creating a multi-volume archive (or splitting a large file into parts)

In some cases, it is necessary to compress the file and burn it to a flash drive or CD/DVD disk (for example). When we squeezed it, we saw that it didn’t fit on the disk ☺...

In these cases, it is convenient to make a multi-volume archive (i.e., divided into several parts with a certain size). Let me look at the example below.

Let's say we have a folder with documents, we need to compress it and write it to floppy disks (3.5 Floppy is an anachronism, of course, but purely for example ☺). If you compress a folder into an archive, its size is the same larger size floppy disks.

Archive size is about 3MB

In this case, in the parameters when creating an archive, you need to do one thing - indicate which parts to split the volumes into (the size is indicated in bytes). 7-Zip already has all the most popular:

  1. There are sizes of 650 and 700 MB for recording documents on CDs;
  2. 4092 MB is maximum size For file system FAT 32;
  3. there are sizes for different types DVD discs;
  4. including for Floppy 3.5 (which is what I chose ☺).

Please note (see screenshot below): there are three files, the maximum size of each file is no more than the size of a floppy disk. Those. Now you can insert 3 floppy disks one by one and write one file to them.

To extract information from such an archive, you need to open the very first volume (001)! And, by the way, to extract files from such a multi-volume archive, you will need all the volumes (all the pieces into which the archive was split during creation!).

Creating an encrypted archive (with password access)

This is useful when you do not want someone to see your documents (or, for example, photos) without your permission. By the way, I note that such an encrypted archive file with password access- it is quite difficult to hack, and therefore you can be relatively calm about your data in it.

In 7-Zip, when creating an archive, specify the format 7Z, then check the box next to "Encrypt file names" , specify the encryption method "AES-256", and enter the password (see the screenshot below for an example).

Create an encrypted archive with a password

Actually, after creating such an archive, when you try to open it (in any archiver!), you will see a window asking you to enter a password. If it is entered incorrectly, you will not gain access to your data (keep in mind that if you forget the password, it will most likely be impossible to obtain data from such an archive!).

How to make an archive that can be unpacked without an archiver

Another extremely unpleasant situation: I packed the files into an archive, wrote them to disk, brought them to another PC - but it does not have an archiver that would support the format of your archive... ☺

In this case, to be sure that this archive can be retrieved by everyone who wants, you can create SFX archive(SFX is self-extracting, i.e. no additional programs, even archivers, are needed to unpack it).

To do this, in 7-Zip, when creating an archive, check just one box: "Create SFX archive" .

Then, when the archive is ready, you will see what it resembles regular program With EXE extension. That’s right - this archive is a program that, when launched, will extract all the files into the folder that you specify!

After launching the SFX archive, you will be asked to specify a folder, as in the example below. After specifying, click the button "Extract"(i.e. extract). Actually, that's it!

Where to extract files // SFX archive created in 7-Zip

Important!

All three archive options that we have now created (multi-volume, self-extracting, encrypted) can be combined and combined. For example, you can compress files and make the archive self-extracting with password access.

So when anyone runs this EXE file- he will ask him to provide a password for further access and extraction of files...

That's all I have. Good luck to all!

Quite often files that are sent via e-mail or posted on the Internet, pre-archived using one of the popular archivers, for example, using RAR archiver. This allows you to reduce the file size and speed up its loading, but at the same time creates some difficulties for the user, because such a file must be unpacked before use. In this material we will talk about how to unpack a RAR archive and what programs you will need for this.

RAR is a proprietary archiving format developed in the early 90s Russian programmer Evgeniy Roshal for the operating room DOS systems. Later he created versions of this archiver and for other operating systems. The version for the Windows operating system was called WinRAR and became quite popular.

Since RAR is a closed format, to work with it you need to install a special software. Unlike, which can be worked with using only built-in Windows tools. Therefore, in order to unpack the RAR archive, you need to select and install on your computer one of the programs that support this format. For example, you can use programs such as 7-Zip, Universal Extractor, HaoZip, Hamster Free ZIP Archiver, IZArc, TUGZip, ExtractNow or PeaZip. In this article we will extract RAR files using the free 7-Zip archiver, since it is the most popular and many users already have it installed.

As has already been said, for unpacking RAR archive, you will need an archiver with support of this format. If such an archiver is already installed on your computer, then this step you can skip it. If not, then go to the website, download the 7-Zip archiver there and install it on your computer.

The installation process itself is extremely simple, all the user needs to do is click on the “Install” button.

Step No. 2. View the contents of the archive.

After installing the 7-Zip archiver, you can start working with RAR files. For example, you can view the contents of an archive without unpacking it. To do this, right-click on the RAR archive and select the menu item “7-Zip – Open archive”.

As a result, the 7-Zip program interface will appear, in which you can view the contents of this archive.

If necessary, you can extract the file from the archive without unpacking it. To do this, simply drag the files from the 7-Zip program onto your desktop or into the folder you need.

Step No. 3. Unpack the RAR archive.

To unpack archives, the 7-Zip archiver offers different ways. One option is unpacking from the program interface. To do this, open the RAR file as described above and click on the “Extract” button.

After that, click on the button and specify the folder in which you want to unpack the archive, then click “OK”. As a result, the contents of your RAR archive will be unpacked into the folder you selected. The unpacking time depends on the performance of your computer and the size of the archive. But, if the archive is small, then usually unpacking occurs instantly.

You can also unpack the RAR archive through the context menu. To do this, right-click on the archive and select the “Extract here” or “Extract to folder name” option.

If you select the “Extract here” option, your RAR archive will be unpacked into the same folder where the RAR file is located. And if you select “Extract to folder name,” a folder with the same name will be created next to the RAR file and the contents of the archive will be unpacked into it.
