Recording occurs by replacing already recorded sectors. With this erasing method, data can be recovered if new information has not been written to the disk.
  2. Hard erase: Removes data from the disk by overwriting it with zeros. Content cannot be restored conventional methods. Repeatedly completely erasing a disk increases the likelihood that third parties will not be able to restore the original contents of the disk.
Disk information

Displays information about the drive (compatibility, firmware, model, etc.) and disk (free space, number of sessions, file system etc.).

Disk check

This tool checks the inserted disk for errors, byte-by-byte. If any file cannot be read, the program will issue a notification about this.

  • The disc will be copied to a temporary ISO image on your hard drive.
  • The ISO image will be burned to a new CD, after which temporary file will be deleted from the hard drive.

Conclusion

The free BurnAware program is used to burn and create CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs, create and burn ISO disk images, burn multimedia and data to CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs.

Thousands of thousands of people all over the Runet use the computer for their own purposes. Some people watch a movie, others listen to music all day long, and there are also those who do business. 🙂

Almost everyone now already has a computer, which in itself is not bad. But I know from experience that they start to work on it somehow strangely... They immediately go to the Internet and start entering phrases like “blah blah blah download for free” or “download programs for free.” Everything would be fine if not search engines, which, with such an input, immediately give out tons of links to “Warez” portals, which are full of all sorts of messages of an intimate nature, and are also stuffed with all sorts of bullshit in the form of cracked, hacked, patched paid (!) programs.

And few users think that in the world there are millions of free and no less ergonomic software products. But as they say, “A friend’s advice comes first.” Yes... Exactly advice. Very often I hear the following advice: “Do you need a program for burning discs? Download Nero and don’t worry!” But the one to whom you say this, first subconsciously and then consciously, becomes a software pirate. And again everything went on and on again. Advice, advice, advice...

Where am I going with this tirade? Probably I just got tired of these tips, so I decided to fight this injustice, and therefore, to confirm my words, I decided to make a review of one wonderful and note: FREE program - BurnAware Free.

Do you want to burn CDs fully and without a twinge of conscience? Then go ahead!

Program installation BurnAware Free

Install the program. Together with installed program You, unfortunately, will have to install a small toolbar in the IE browser. If you use Opera, Ognelis or something else, then you don’t have to worry - the panel won’t be installed on them. Although in IE you can simply turn it off later. Also, upon startup you will be prompted to select a language. future program. Select "Russian".

BurnAware main window

After installation, launch the program. The figure shows the main “starting” window. It's kind of analogous Start Smart V Nero program. But a little simpler. 🙂 Here you can select the program function you need: recording regular discs or larger ones (DVD, BD).

By the way, BD is Blue-ray Disc. The most modern optical media large-scale production information. They will soon replace DVDs. They have a larger capacity: 25 gigabytes on one side.

Main window interface

As for the interface of the program itself, in my opinion, there is complete minimalism. I love. The simple grayish design does not hurt the eye. When hovered, menu items take on slightly rounded shapes, and light color highlighting allows you to visually determine the importance of a particular section. The main thing is that the “Clear DVD-RW/+RW” item was made reddish, thereby warning of its super importance. 🙂

No matter how fast you move the mouse cursor over the items, they will always be displayed smoothly and beautifully. Without any delay or glitches. Which is also quite important. After all, fast and convenient work with the program gives her a very big plus. It is also worth noting a small background information, which is displayed when you hover over sections. Her presentation is very clear and accurately reflects the meaning of each point. But even here I noticed a small problem: the “Disk Information” item contains grammatical error"View disk information." But this is not so important. I think it will be fixed later. 🙂

Recording process

In our a small example we will learn to write down regular DVD with data. I have this regular disk from Datex, 4.5 gigabytes in size. I have checked the company and the quality of these discs is quite outdated for me. Therefore, if you want to purchase them, you can safely do so.

Now let’s click on the “Burn DVD with data” item and begin to study the recording process, as well as the most important subtleties in the setup.

Window DVD recording discsWindow for burning DVD discs Like the previous window, this one also does not have any special graphics. But it works to our advantage. Simplicity is the sister of speed. 🙂

Adding files is done using the “Add...” button. Next, choose necessary files and click “Add”, and as soon as you get tired of adding, close the window with the “Ok” button.

If you want to create a new folder on a future disk, then click “ new folder..." In general, everything is simple. A good indicator The disk capacity is indicated by the compact image in the lower right corner.

Setting up the program

Now let's move on to the most important thing - setting up the program. The settings window is called up simply: either by pressing the F10 key, or “Compilation” -> “Options...”.

There are minimal settings here. Therefore, there is nowhere to go especially fast. As you can see, there are only two main sections: “Compilation Properties” and “Settings”.

But even with these settings, we only need two tabs. They demand more detailed consideration, in order to avoid some misunderstandings in the future, and at the same time learn some features of disc writing. 🙂

Setting recording options

On this tab, the “Activate buffer protection...” option is very important. What it is? Who's to say? Okay, if you don’t know, then let’s clarify the situation.

I’ll briefly describe what this cool protection is: a long time ago, in the days of the first drives, when writing discs, there was a possibility of damaging the disc due to recording errors. If during recording the clipboard was suddenly cleared and the data for recording suddenly stopped being supplied, then the disk would instantly deteriorate. But thanks to the smart heads of people, a way was invented to circumvent this unpleasant nuance. When the buffer is empty, the writing laser simply turns off, thereby saving your disk. But as soon as the clipboard was filled with data by more than 10%, the recording process continued further. It was this technology that was given the name - BURN-Proof (Buffer UnderRunN proof).

Therefore, some advice to you: if you have a weakly configured computer, then when recording, try not to start unnecessary programs. This way you will get rid of possible wild losses.

There is another equally important option: “Write in disk-at-once (DAO) mode”

In fact, discs can be written in two modes: TAO and DAO.

TAO (track-at-once) mode implies session data recording. This means that you can add to a regular DVD-R as it fills up. For example, you recorded 500 megabytes of information there, and then a week later you can add another 500 meters there, and so on. Until, of course, the disk itself is filled to capacity. But there is also a stumbling block here: some household players and drives cannot work with this mode. Although this rule applies to older models. Don't forget about this!

As for the DAO (disk-at-once) mode, everything is simple. The data, regardless of its size, is written to disk and the session is closed (finalized). This means that now you will not be able to write to this, say, half-empty disk.

Setting up the recording process In this tab, only one option is most important: “Select recording speed”. After generating the content of the disc, you click the “Burn disc” button. In this case, a window for selecting the disk recording speed immediately pops up. I will say on my own behalf that if you write important information and require long-term storage from the disk, then choose the lowest speed.

The lower the recording speed, the better the laser will burn through the surface of the disc, and this in turn will have a great effect on the readability of the disc. Better take your time when signing up! A couple of extra seconds saved when high speed The records may later come out with various problems when reading or copying.

Well, I think I'm done with the settings. As for the options not discussed, they are clear without unnecessary words. Now, in fact, we will continue our virtual recording. After you have decided on the choice of folders and files, feel free to click on the “Burn disc” button. Where is she? She is before your eyes in top corner in the form of a large red circle. Next, select desired speed records and let's go! 🙂

Disadvantages of BurnAware Free

A small disadvantage is the lack of creation of boot disks. But this can be survived. After all, such rich capabilities of this program allow us to turn a blind eye to this unimportant regular user flaw. In addition, you can always buy a version that has this function.
