Sony smart watch 2 applications

The device is charged using a regular microUSB cable. Now almost all Android smartphones have this type of connector, and there will be no problems finding a cord. After fully charged The gadget works for two to three days. But such working hours are not surprising. There is no powerful processor, the screen is small, so the autonomy of the device is high. By the way, the gadget works for 2-3 days if you use notifications, trackers and other applications quite often. If you plan to use the device mainly as a watch, then it can work for a week.

Competitors

Market " smart watch“It’s still small, but SmartWatch already has competitors, and some of them are very serious.

Pebble Watch

This watch is perhaps the most successful project, released from Kickstarter. Firstly, Pebble is in no way tied to any certain version smartphone or even to the device. They work with both Android and iOS. But the most interesting thing is the screen. Pebble uses a low-power E-Paper display, which allows them to last much longer than their competitors.

Even though now wrist watch viewed more as a decoration than a timekeeping device, I'm more likely to leave the house without a mobile phone than without a watch. I'm used to them. My requirements for the watch are small - an analogue dial, date display, water resistance (so you can wash your hands), backlight. A nice, but not obligatory bonus is the digital dial.

Until recently, I had inexpensive Casios, which, in principle, suited everyone. There was only one drawback - they were in a hurry. About a minute a month. If we were lagging behind, it wouldn’t be so annoying - it’s not difficult to move forward a minute from time to time. But to put it back a minute, analog clock I had to rewind 11 hours 59 minutes forward - the hands did not move back. So the idea arose to buy a watch with time synchronization.

First I looked towards radio synchronization. It didn’t work out - the towers are located in Europe, they only reach Russia at the borders. Plus all sorts of time conversions to winter/summer.
Synchronization via GPS? Redundant. It's better to have a GPS logger than to wear a watch.
Watch phone? Totally overkill. A toy for a couple of hours, then throw it on the shelf and don’t take it out again. Like a watch, it works for half a day, like a telephone, it’s completely useless. And talking to the clock... It’s not my thing, in general. :)

Sync with phone via bluetooth? That's it.
I went to look at Casio. GB-6900B- there is no analog dial, they cost 6500 - if you order on ebay and 9500 - if you buy from us. They synchronize, beep if a letter or SMS arrives, control the player, work for two years on one battery (with using bluetooth). Enrolled as a candidate. But I still wanted an analog dial; it seems to me much more convenient than a digital one. That's why I went to look at alternatives.

Citizen Eco-Drive Proximity. Analog. Beautiful. They only report mail and incoming calls by waving the arrow. Works only with iPhone. Sorry, but no good.

Cookoo Watch. Analog ones, not as beautiful as Proximity (although also quite nice), do not display the date. Refuse.

Somewhere at this stage, I wanted to control the player from the watch (useful when using a wired headset), to see who was calling (and not just the presence of a call). Well, make calls from the watch - so as not to take out your phone when using a headset.

Samsung Galaxy Gear. Large, expensive, too sophisticated, work all day, work only with Samsung. No good.

Sony Smartwatch- the cheapest option, but they are too toy-like. And the operating time is not much longer than that of Galaxy Gear. Plus all this tapping on the screen to display the time... Absolutely stupid thing.

Pebble. Interesting. They work long enough for this class of devices. A bunch of different dials and all kinds of indications (mail, SMS, weather, coordinates, speed...).
Disadvantages:
- Design. Didn’t like them, they remind me too much of simple ones chinese watch. Maybe if I met them in person I would have changed my mind, but I didn’t meet them in stores. Corrected in Pebble Steel.
- Own connector for connection charger. And I’m somehow used to the fact that everything around me is charged via microUSB.
- Russian language. Fixed in alternative firmwares.
- Three button control. To dial a number or search for it in phone book it's much less convenient than a touchscreen.
Pebble:

Pebble Steel:

Well, the winner of the race - Sony Smartwatch 2. Compared to the first version, they have become much less toy-like, now they look more like a watch and support the use of regular straps. More details below.

Specifications
Quite stingy:
Touch display 1.6″, 220×176, 176 ppi
Bluetooth 3.0
NFC
Compliance with IP57 protection standard (dustproof, withstands short-term immersion to a depth of 1m).
Compatible with any smartphones Android based 4.0
Dimensions 42×41×9 mm
Weight 46 g

Neither the processor used nor the size of RAM... But it’s still a watch, not a phone. ;)
The watch does not have speakers, so it is mute. But there is a fairly strong vibration signal.
The design is the current Sony style. Black, square, button on the side. I won’t say that it’s particularly beautiful, but it’s not a plastic remnant either.

There are a lot of complaints about the complete silicone/rubber strap in terms of lifespan, but in my opinion these watches are not sold with a metal strap. But the fastening is standard - so you can install any straps with a width of 24mm.
I'm licking my lips at something like this, but for now the toad is strangling me.

Without a phone, the watch has the following functionality:
Time display: 10 preset watch faces, of which two thirds display each other in black and white.
Alarm clock: Two alarm clocks, triggering by days of the week and signal duration can be adjusted (10, 15, 30 seconds). They signal with a vibrator.
Stopwatch: Cut off laps, displaying the shortest lap with an icon.
Timer: until 23:59:59.
Plus settings and a completely stupid flashlight application - it just fills the screen with white.
Screen and controls
Touch screen. Below it are three touch buttons in android style - Back, Home and Menu.
On the side is a round silver button, similar to the ones Sony uses in its smartphones. The first press turns on the backlight, the second goes to the list of programs, the third returns to standby mode. In the list of programs, movement occurs by swiping left and right.

In standby mode, the backlight is off, the selected watch face is displayed, and the screen does not respond to anything.
The watch's screen is transflective, so when the backlight is turned off, the image is clearly visible in ambient light. And the brighter it is, the better it is visible. The disadvantage of such a screen is the graininess of the image.

Programs used
There are quite a lot of programs for watches in the market, but I use less than a dozen.
Gmail - mail notification, ability to read text messages. When a letter arrives, it vibrates and shows several lines on the screen. If you click on the screen at this time, it will try to download the entire letter (without pictures and attachments). It works well, but there are problems with some Russian-language headers, it displays a mess like “=?KOI8-R?B?PT9LT0k...”, while the text itself displays normally. There are no such problems with letters in utf-8. During normal startup, it displays the last few emails.
Working hours
With my normal mode of use, the watch works for about five to six days, if you don’t turn it off at night. Of course, not for two years, but once a week I’m ready to charge the watch. Although, I think, on average, we can assume that the clock works for four days.
But on the phone, working with a watch has a more serious impact. If usually my battery drained by 10-15 percent per day, then with the watch connected, 30-35% of the charge disappears per day. It’s not fatal, I still put my phone in the cradle every evening, but it’s something to consider. Although external battery anyway, it always lies in your pocket, it will feed both your phone and your watch - fortunately the charging connector is the same.
Small notes
Works normally with a bluetooth headset.
There is some delay in the response of notifications - first the phone, after a second or two - the clock.
They reconnect without problems, the moment of connection and disconnection is indicated by a vibration. If during the disconnection there were some missed events on the phone, then vibration is also triggered. But just once. May be confused with vibration when reconnecting.
The maximum operating range depends on the walls; they can no longer reach through two load-bearing walls.
Sometimes they freeze and stop responding to events - but call or player control works. It can be cured by rebooting the clock.
The list of preset watch faces cannot be edited. But there are still additional dials, they are implemented through the installation of programs like Clocki or WatchFaces. I myself have not yet seriously dealt with them, so I cannot say how much they affect the operating time of the watch.

Compare first Sony Smart Watch and Sony Smart Watch 2 are not worth it - they are completely different products. Significant progress has been seen, much more convenient control, better design, more programs, the device is more stable than before. In general, it turned out to be a good thing.

    Design, construction

I want to remind you what exactly Sony Ericsson We owe a lot to the emergence of a similar product category – watches that work with gadgets. Many years ago, SE actively developed this direction, and the ideas that you see in Pebble were actively used in the MBW-100/150/200 “watches”. The first ones appeared back in 2006, that is, seven years ago. Player controls, notifications, the ability to answer a call - yes, all this was then, and the MBW-100 was in many ways a fantastic gadget, but with a more attractive design than the current Pebble.

I think design is very important for such accessories. And Sony may well return to the MBW-100 forms or come up with something else to make such a thing both functional and attractive. It almost worked with Smart Watch 2, the case has become larger, this thing looks great on your hand more interesting models first generation. Naturally, the main audience is young people, who are greedy for such things; for young people, design seems quite interesting to me. Moreover, they successfully played up the well-known Xperia feature; the button on the end is the same as on the Z/Z Ultra/Z1. And I really like how they worked with tactile sensations; it’s very pleasant to press it.

The wide silicone strap fits well on the hand, here you can also compare it with the previous generation, there the strap was thin, nondescript, here it’s like a normal watch. The case is made of metal; by the way, the accessory is immune to splashes of water - you shouldn’t get into the shower with Smart Watch 2, but you shouldn’t be afraid of rain either.

On the right side there is a plug for the microUSB connector, another plus, no special charges, magnetic latches or anything else, any cable of this type will do. The plug is not too visible, fits very tightly, and is unlikely to become loose during use.

By the way, you can buy a strap of a different color for the watch; the accessory is called SE20. There are seven colors in total: yellow, pink, purple, light green, black and brown leather, the rest are made of silicone. In my opinion, a silicone strap suits the concept better; after all, this is not serious Swiss mechanics, but rather another electronic gadget on your farm.

The yellow strap looks interesting; girls might like the pink one.

There is an NFC sensor on the case for quick connection to a smartphone that supports this function, with Sony Xperia Z1 everything worked out without any problems.

    The dimensions of the watch are 42 x 9 x 41 mm, weight – 122.5 grams.

    Display and control

Touch display, diagonal – 1.6 inches, resolution – 220 x 176 pixels. The size of the display has been increased, which is nice, and even nicer is that it has become much more responsive, managing applications is more convenient, and the clock is visible much better. When you just wear SW 2 on your hand, the backlight becomes dim, if you want to backlight, you need to press the button on the right. Below the display there are the Back, Home, and menu buttons, which are quite convenient to use. Vibration during notifications feels good. For the watch you can choose one of five dials, they look good, I like the analog one the most - note that in addition to the time, the date is also displayed.

The most important thing you need to know about the controls is that if there were problems with the first generation watches, there are none here at all. The buttons are made wisely, the display is large, in general, I have nothing to complain about. You can buy the SW 2 and wear it like a watch - if you're a Sony fan.

    Menu

At the top is a line of indicators, battery, time, Bluetooth status, below are program icons, the official page lists the following features:

The list is incomplete, because you can add programs from here at any time. Play Market independently: a flashlight, an alarm clock, notes, searching for a phone (the device starts beeping) - in general, you can customize Smart Watch 2 for a long time and persistently. IN daily activities The watch personally helped me see notifications on the go, use the music player and not take the phone out of my pocket - it’s not summer, my hands are in gloves, the device is far away, with SW 2 the task is simplified. Or another option: you are sitting at your laptop, listening to music through a headset connected to your smartphone. The clock shows that there is a call, immediately pressed a button and began speaking into the headset microphone. Without interrupting your work.

Naturally, there will be a hundred arguments against buying such a device, and adults are unlikely to appreciate it - but I repeat once again, young people who like to tinker with Android will be delighted. Moreover, Sony Smart Watch 2 can work not only with Xperia, but also with other Android devices, this is a big plus.

And let me mention once again that, compared to first Smart These Watches have become much more convenient, more stable, and more reliable in general.

I would like to note that the list of mini-programs for Smart Watch 2 is truly huge, most of the utilities are free, but there are also those that cost 30-40 rubles. I would first recommend trying free analogues.

    Working hours

The stated operating time is about 7 days, it is very correct that the official page immediately warns that with normal use the time will decrease, about 3-4 days. I use Sony Xperia Z1 as a second device, Sony Smart Watch 2 was paired with it, notifications worked, I controlled music in the player, the watch lasted five days. Judging by the reviews, many people do something like this. Naturally, I’m not happy with the operating time - let me remind you about the Casio G-shock watch with Bluetooth, yes, they are not so functional, but the battery lasts for two (!) years.

On the other hand, a weak battery is unlikely to be an obstacle when purchasing a Smart Watch 2; this does not stop technology enthusiasts.

    conclusions

You can still look for this watch in retail; pre-orders are accepted on the Sonystyle.ru website, but delivery in December is not guaranteed. The version with a regular strap costs 5,990 rubles, with a metal one – the same, a leather strap costs 790 rubles, and a silicone one – also 740 rubles. I haven’t seen a metal bracelet, I haven’t seen a leather one either, if you’re interested, I’ll take it out and take it off.

Regarding Sony Smart Watch 2, it is very difficult to say whether you should buy this thing or not, it is difficult to give unambiguous recommendations. The product is niche, but the second version is much better than the first. Metal body, increased touchscreen and the controls are an order of magnitude better; when used with the Sony Xperia Z1 there were no bugs and the watch did not randomly disconnect from the device. Instant connection (NFS also helps) after installation proprietary program Working with mini-applications for watches is very simple - all you have to do is choose, press the install button and evaluate the result yourself. How you will use the Sony Smart Watch 2, I don't know. There are a lot of options. You can simply control it like a clock music player if you are moving to public transport You'll probably appreciate that you don't need to take your smartphone out of your pocket. And if you have a “shovel” like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, then that’s even better. It is convenient to read messages on the screen, you can view information on social networks, work with calls - even dialing a number. I didn’t bother you in the review extra photos, just believe me, the device is capable of a lot compared to simple Smart Watch heaven and earth. And they are not that expensive.

The Sony campaign has been releasing gadgets for a long time, but it would be wrong to call the smartwatches of this developer a popular product, in comparison with Samsung Gear or with the most popular Apple Watch. The Sony development team produces devices that can interest the user interesting solutions. For example, smart bracelets SmartBand and SmartBand Talk are very different in functionality from competitors’ products. In addition to bracelets, Sony also offers smartwatches of the second generation - sony smartwatch 2.

    Design

Gadgets produced by Sony are known for their special design. The manufacturer has developed a unique, memorable design. And sony smart watch 2 were no exception to the rule. Appearance watch repeats the main features Xperia smartphones Z, Z1 and Z Ultra. Clear, precise edges, an elegant metal body, and most importantly, a central button copied from the power button of the Xperia Z line of smartphones.

Protective glass occupy the entire upper plane. But the glass does not protrude above the body, like Samsung gadgets. At the bottom of the screen there are three touch buttons, like on most Android-based smartphones: Back, Home and Menu. The size of the buttons is an important disadvantage of the device. The buttons are small, so you can’t hit them every time.

The gadget is presented in black color. The device has a stylish and strict design. Sony smartwatch 2 is suitable for both strong and weaker sex. Of course, the Sony smartwatch 2 sw2 is larger than the usual ladies' watches, but the size is not too noticeable. An option is also offered Sony design smartwatch 2 fifa, made in football style.

One of the main design details was the strap. It can be easily removed in official Sony Store there are 2 options available: a silicone strap in black or a metal one. Also, silicone straps are available in turquoise, yellow, pink, and purple colors. In addition, leather straps are available for purchase, made from light or dark leather.

The gadget is charged using an ordinary Micro-USB. And this is a step forward when compared to the previous generation of watches from the Sony corporation.

    Screen

The Sony smartwatch sw2 has a touch screen that supports tapping and swiping gestures. However, the main difference, in comparison with the same Samsung Galaxy Gear, is the control of the device through the Back, Home and Menu buttons located under the screen.

    What can smartwatch 2 do?

In our review of the Sony smartwatch 2, we must not forget about the software in which the gadget is not limited. It is important that the second-generation device is designed to be compatible with first-generation applications. But there is one important detail - the Sony smartwatch 2 offers a selection of applications from small developers, although most programs for sports, such as Nike, Endomondo, miCoach, are not supported by Sony watches.

When purchasing on smart watch a minimum of applications are installed - settings and a flashlight, a clock and a program for monitoring activity, a calculator and remote control multimedia. Rest required applications The user can easily install it himself.

From the list of built-in programs, you can easily understand that the Sony Smart Watch 2 is not suitable for those who are going to use the gadget for sports activities. First of all, this is a stylish accessory that counts the steps you take and will wake you up in right time, will entertain and transmit important notifications from your smartphone. To perform these functions, there is support for applications that are installed on mobile phone or smartphone (Gmail, SMS, call and contact log, calendar), but they are also installed depending on the user’s needs. That is, if the consumer does not want the smart watch to respond to a call received on a smartphone, then this will not happen. There is no desire for SMS to be sent to the watch (and shown to others) - this will also not happen, because such functionality can simply not be enabled.

In preinstalled Sony program SmartConnect can reposition applications on displays for greater comfort.

    Additional Applications

For sony smartwatch 2 application review in Google Play can take a very long time, and understanding each application is quite pointless. We will note only the main categories of the proposed software.

    1. Various decorations. There are so many skins for the SmartWatch 2 interface that it is hardly possible to scroll through the entire list. The designs are completely different, from colorful pictures to black and white minimalism, so even the most picky connoisseur of color harmony will find something of their own among the skins. In addition, the manufacturer itself offers several pre-installed versions interface.
    2. The second direction in developing applications for Sony SmartWatch 2 was various tools: alarms, various schedulers, regular and engineering calculators, programs for RSS readers ribbons, flashlights, applications for remote control camera. The latter is a rather useless application, but most smartwatch developers provide the device with similar functionality. You can use it without limitation Xperia line, but with any device synchronized with the clock.
    3. Maps and trackers that allow you to establish your location, create and save routes. All necessary information the watch is received from a connected smartphone. Using the Sony smartwatch 2 is much easier than looking at your smartphone display every time you need to.
    4. Games. Yes, there really are games that are quite convenient to play on small screen hours. Snake and various Tamagotchis are a great way to pass the time in transport or at a boring meeting, but the response touch screen hours still leaves much to be desired.
    5. Programs for remote control of multimedia. Useful applications, but they are unlikely to be able to compete properly preinstalled program from the manufacturer.
    6. Applications for social networks. Extremely necessary programs, for those who spend almost all their time on Facebook or Instagram, and this is typical software for smartwatches on any platform, Sony does not offer anything radically new in this area.
