How to set up miui desktop. Review and setup of MIUI shell from Xiaomi

Xiaomi smartphones running MIUI have a number of features that you can notice just by looking at the phone's desktop. There's nothing familiar here Android users-application menu, instead there are many third-party working platforms on which everything is located installed applications. This allows you to sort programs into folders and customize work panel for yourself.

Let's figure it out together!

* By the way, this instruction was written based on MIUI 9. In other versions of the shell, visualization and capabilities may differ.

In order to make desktop settings, you need to move two fingers to the center of the screen or hold down the “Menu” button. A menu will open with three shortcuts: “Wallpaper”, “Widgets” and “Settings”.

In the “Wallpaper” section you can set a screensaver for your desktop: choose from one that already exists on your smartphone or download it to your taste from Internet resources.

By clicking on “Widgets”, we see a list of widgets (small independent software modules), which can be added to the desktop of your smartphone. Both quick switches and widgets from third-party applications are available.

By going to Settings, you can find the following options:

  • “Screen changing effect” - setting animation when flipping between desktops. You can choose from 7 animations the one that you like most: “Slide”, “Fade”, “Mill”, “Flipping”, “Cascade”, “Rotation”, “3D cube”;
  • “Default screen” - select the main desktop to which the smartphone will go when you press the “Home” button;
  • In the " Appearance"You can set the number of cells on one desktop (“4 × 6” or “5 × 6”), however, this function is not available on all Xiaomi smartphones;
  • “Fill empty cells” - function automatic filling empty cells on the desktop;
  • “Protect from changes” - this function blocks any changes (deleting/moving) on the desktop;
  • “More” - will open a menu in “Settings” with all the changes that can be installed on the desktop.

To combine icons into shared folder you need to hold one icon and point it at another. Do the same for any other shortcuts you want to add. You can also rename a folder: go to the selected folder, click on its name and change it.

You cannot delete an icon without deleting the application itself; you can combine little-used ones in the same way as described earlier. The deletion itself is quick; just hold the application and drag it to the trash can icon, which will appear at the top of the screen. Then we confirm the deletion by clicking on the “Delete” button.

In MIUI, on Xiaomi phones, there is nothing familiar to all users Android menu. Instead, there is desktops, on which all installed applications are located. At first, it seems quite inconvenient. But, after a while, you no longer want to return to the previous menu.

To call up the desktop settings, you need to pinch the desktop with two fingers from the edges to the center. This movement is exactly the same as when you want to make an image smaller in a gallery.

1. Desktop menu

In the desktop settings of the latest MIUI versions, there are 4 main points. Let's start in order, from left to right:

  1. Effects

Here we can choose a theme for your device. This menu duplicates the one located along the Settings—>Themes path. We will not dwell on it in detail. I think everything is clear.

A widget is part of an application or standalone application, which can be placed on the desktop and contain any information. For example, weather, clocks, exchange rates, news, etc. They make it easier to access settings and switches.

To place a widget on your desktop, you need to go to “Widgets” and select the one we need.

For example, let's display a widget with which you can turn Wi-Fi on and off:

Now you can access it very quickly.

In this way, you can display any widget on your desktop. There are quite a lot of them even on a newly purchased phone. And after installing applications, there will be even more.

To remove a widget, simply press and hold it for a while and then, without releasing it, drag it to top part screen, to the trash icon. In the same way, you can remove any icon from the desktop.

Naturally, you can always return it by going to the “Widgets” section.

Wallpaper

Here you can choose your desktop and lock screen wallpaper. The list is standard. However, you can open the “Online” tab and download what you like.

Effects

These are the effects that will occur when scrolling through desktops. For example, “rotate”, “cascade”, “rotation”, “3d cube”, etc. Try to select any of them and move from one table to another.

When the desktop is full, application icons are automatically created new table. But, if we want to create it ourselves, then we need:

  • Pinch with two fingers and scroll through all desktops to the end, left or right. And then, just click on the plus icon. So we created a new desktop.

There is another way to add a table. It will be discussed in the next paragraph. About, how to add new MIUI9 desktop, can be read.

If you have several desktops, then when you click on touch button“Home”, by default, always opens first. But what if you need it to open, for example the second one or any other. To do this, you need to assign the main desktop:

By clicking on the desktop with “Plus”, we will add a new table in the same way as we did in step 2.

Here, we can change desktop locations. To do this, click on any of them and move to the desired location.

4. Sort desktop icons

There are 2 ways to sort icons:

  1. Within one table. To do this, simply press and hold your finger on the icon, and then move it to the desired location.
  2. Move to another desktop. For this:

There are also two ways to do this:

To rename a folder, go into it and click on the name. We ask any.

Folders are deleted in the same way as other icons.

That's all. I hope the article will be useful to beginners.

If you are the happy owner of large display, then perhaps you would like to display large quantity icons Thus, you can reduce the number of desktops, which in turn speeds up the search required application, because there is no need to flip through them. In MIUI, by default, the grid size is set to 4x5. That is, 4 labels are wide and 5 are high.

It is possible to set the following values for the grid size: 4x5, 4x6, 4x7, 5x5, 5x6, 5x7.

This may come in handy if your smartphone has a large number of applications. Due to the fact that in MIUI you cannot remove unnecessary icons from the desktop, after installing programs, all their shortcuts are distributed across the desktops. Over time, there can be a lot of these desktops. The decision in in this case, may be distributing icons into folders or changing the desktop grid. For example, if using a 4x5 grid (default), you have 6 desktops, changing the grid to 5x7, there will be 4. (4x5 - 20 icons on each table * 6 tables = 120 pcs. 5x7 - 35 icons on the table. 120 / 35 = 3.42. This makes 4 work tables, and the last one is only half full).

How to change the desktop grid?

1. This will require .

2. File manager, which makes it possible to change system files, For example Root Explorer.

4. Remove the “zip” permission from the downloaded file.

5. Help Root Explorer copy the file to: system\media\theme\default\

6. Grant the file the following permissions:

7. Reboot your smartphone.

After the reboot, in “Settings”, in the “Desktop” section, it will be possible to change the size of the desktop grid:

You now have the option to choose the number of icons to display on your desktop.

And one more feature. Regardless of which grid you have selected, in the bottom line on the screen (where the icons are: “Phone”, “Contacts”, “SMS”, etc.), you can put 1 more icon than is displayed on the desktop.

Buying new smartphone, the user, of course, begins to customize it for himself. These custom configurations have a lot to do with the device's home screen. It is necessary to correctly place all the elements so that access to them is as fast as possible. This article will talk about how to configure the MIUI desktop ( operating system Xiaomi devices).

Basic setup steps

Initially, you need to decide on those elements that can be configured on the main screen:

  1. Actually the desks themselves: their location, quantity.
  2. Location of applications, widgets.
  3. Configuring widgets: sizes, purpose.
  4. Wallpapers, design themes.

Let's consider all these possibilities, kindly provided by the manufacturer, in more detail.

Creating and placing desktops

Initially, you need to understand how to add these same desktops on MIUI and how to remove them.

There are two main ways:

  1. Pinch with two fingers and scroll left or right. If a “+” in a circle is visible on the screen, then this means that you can add a desktop, and if with an “x”, then delete it.

  1. A three-finger pinch opens more detailed menu management. Cross on the right top corner block of one of the desktops allows you to delete it, and transparent block with a "+" inside allows you to add it. If you click on the house icon at the bottom of one of the blocks, then specific table will open by default.

The transition effect between desktops can also be customized. After pinching with two fingers, you need to select the “Effects” menu, and in it select one of the proposed options for animation of moving between sheets.

Hosting applications and widgets

There is no need to get used to the inconvenient arrangement of individual elements. You can always move them to a place where your finger can always find them without difficulty. Just hold down an application, widget or folder to drag it to another location.

To move elements:

  • drag the icon to the very edge of the current table, holding until scrolling;
  • hold down the icon and scroll with your second finger to the desired table.

You can also carry out group movement applications. To do this, you need to enter the menu by double-tapping the screen. Select “Sort” and simply click required applications to add them to the set. Then, to group them, you need to swipe from left to right and hold down the entire group to drag it to the desired location on the screen or into a folder.

An empty folder can be created in the same way. When several icons are added to a group, a “Folder” icon will appear next to them, by clicking on which you can add it to the desktop. You can then add grouped icons to this folder. You need to rename the folder through the same menu. After double-pinch, you need to open the folder and click on the name above it, after which you will be able to enter a new name.

Widgets and their settings

By double-pinch and entering the “Widgets” item, you can install stand-alone ones on your desktop functional modules, which will display different useful information or give an opportunity quick access to applications installed on the device.

For example, on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, taken as an example, you can see the following widgets:

  • buttons for quick access to functions located in the “curtain” (the top pull-out menu of the device) – airplane mode, Wi-Fi settings;

The set of widgets is determined solely by the applications installed on a specific device.

When installing the widget, the program may offer own settings or you can make changes already on an existing module. In the case of the module for WebMoney, the program initially prompts you to select a wallet, the balance of which the module will display, and the colors of the widget.

Module colors for music player AIMP can be changed in the already created version by clicking on the gear in the upper right corner of the block.

Also, most widgets can be resized if you press and hold for a while. After this, an orange rectangle will appear along the outline of the module, which you will need to pull to reduce the size.

Changing wallpaper and theme

However, on the desktop you need not only to arrange everything conveniently, but also to design it beautifully. For this purpose, you can change the wallpaper, which will become the background for all icons and widgets.

You can set wallpaper in the following ways:

  1. Open the menu by pinching with two fingers and select “Wallpaper”. There the user will be offered a set standard pictures. If you click “Online”, he will be taken to the standard wallpaper database for MIUI, and if you click “More”, he will be able to install “Live Wallpaper” or use one of the applications to select a picture that interests him.

  1. In Explorer you need to find any picture, open it, and then click “More” and select “Set as wallpaper”.

  1. You can also use special application for installing wallpaper. For example, you can use the application from WallpapersCraft. It initially adapts the wallpaper base to the screen resolution of the device on which it is installed. To install a picture on your desktop, you just need to select it and click “Install”. If you wish, you can also “Download” the image without installation by clicking the corresponding button.

In addition to the theme, unique icons for applications and some widgets can be added. For this purpose, you need to log in standard application“Topics” and choose the most interesting topic for yourself. Some of them may not work due to compatibility issues. It is necessary to look in the description which themes work on MIUI 8, and which ones are suitable for older models with earlier versions operating system.
