Tp link n600 reset. Resetting the router: methods and consequences. Reasons and methods to reboot the router

Good afternoon, dear readers of the blog site. Recently, I began to very often encounter the phenomenon when a person using a wireless wifi router in his apartment simply forgets the password for it, which subsequently leads to connection problems. Or after time has passed, and in this case, many believe that a reboot should help. If the user is not entirely literate, then most likely he will turn to a computer technician for help. He will solve all problems for a certain amount. Today I will try to tell you how to reset your router to factory settings yourself.

There are several ways to reset your router. For most models they are almost the same as external switches are available on all models. And the interface of the internal program is very similar.

How to reset a router to factory settings using external switches

Most have a standard set of switches on the back or sides. In fact, these are: power on/off buttons, wifi on/off buttons, wps (automatically setting up the connection of a mobile device to the router) and the reset button “Reboot” (this is exactly what we need).

In order to reset the router to factory settings, it must be turned on. Otherwise, the internal program will not be able to determine that any actions were performed.

I would like to note one nuance. There are router models where one switch performs several functions. For example, pressing it briefly enables the wps function, and pressing it for a long time reboots.

The images below show two types of buttons. In the first case, it has a dual purpose and is located externally, and is pressed with a finger.

In the second case, in order to reset the router to its original state, you need to use some thin object. The fact is that the button is recessed to protect the device from accidental rebooting. An unbent paperclip, a needle, or, as shown in the figure below, just use a pencil may be suitable.

To reset, you must press and hold the above button for ten seconds. An indication that the router is rebooting will be when all the indicators on the front panel light up at the same time. Then sequential switching on of all modules of the device.

How to reset a router via internal firmware

This method is used very rarely, since the simplest method is described above. You can reset the router to factory settings via firmware only if you are connected to the router itself. This need arises when you performed the wrong actions at the time of setup. Below I will describe how to do this using the example of two different router manufacturers, Asus and TP-Link. The fact is that at the moment the devices of these companies are the most popular. If you have a router from another company, then do not despair, most of the interfaces are intuitively similar. And after reading this article, you can reset the settings on any device.

How to reset an Asus router

Since these steps are similar for all models of Asus devices, we will not consider each model separately, but consider a general description.

First you need to get into the internal firmware of the wifi router. I will not describe all the subtleties here, since more detailed information can be obtained from the article. We will assume that you have read the above article and went to the internal menu. Now you should pay attention to the very bottom section on the left, “Administration”. Opening it at the top of the screen, select the “Manage Settings” tab and click “Restore” next to factory settings.

How to reset a TP-Link router

In fact, the principle is very similar to the previous manufacturer. The only thing that differs is the interface. In order to get into the menu, I advise you to read the article where everything is described in accessible language. After you have entered the internal program, feel free to go to the “System Settings” section and open the “Factory Settings” tab. Then just click the “Restore” button and confirm the actions being performed.

If you are in the menu of your wireless device, I advise you to check and update the firmware for completeness. These actions will eliminate certain errors and optimize the operation of the device. Read about how to do this in a separate page on my blog.

Well, as I promised, there is nothing complicated about resetting the router settings. Even a novice user can figure this out. However, if you still have questions, I am always ready to help you. Using the TP-Link TL-WR841N router as an example, I propose to figure out how to reset the router to factory settings using external switches.

Good day!

In general, most users rarely enter the router settings (for some, the provider asked them once when connecting and they basically never looked there again). But sooner or later a moment comes when logging into them becomes extremely important (for example, you need to change connection settings, forward ports, change Wi-Fi network security settings, or you just changed your provider - and you want to save time so as not to manually configure dozens of parameters, etc.) ...

And then... the realization comes that the login and password for accessing the router’s web interface have long been forgotten (or are not known at all). In this case, the only thing that can be done is to restore the router to factory settings, and then set your parameters again.

In general, in this article I will look at several ways to perform this operation. So...

Note: when you reset the router, all its parameters will be returned to the factory presets (all your configured Wi-Fi networks, PPPoE connections, etc. will be deleted and will need to be configured again).

2 ways to reset your router

Hard Reset

It is used in the most severe cases: when you cannot log into the router’s web interface, when the device is frozen, malfunctions occur, etc.

For this purpose, routers have a special feature. "Reset" button (usually located on the back wall of the device). I note that you can’t just accidentally press the button: it is small and recessed into the body of the device (you will need a pencil or a pin).

To reset, just press and hold it down for 10-15 seconds. Typically, the LEDs (indicators) on the device body either go out and light up again, or one of the LEDs (SYS, system) starts blinking quickly. After which you can reconfigure the router (login and password will be reset. The abbreviation admin is most often used (without quotes) ).

Note!

On some routers the RESET button is combined with WPS (note: WPS - used to quickly set up a Wi-Fi connection) . The trick here is that:

  1. if you press this button and hold it for no more than 5 seconds (so that the WPS indicator starts blinking), the WPS function will be activated;
  2. If you hold the button for more than 10 seconds until the SYS indicator starts blinking quickly, a hardware reset will occur.

WPS/Reset - one button for 2 actions!

For example, this occurs on TP-Link routers (see screenshot below).

Soft reset

It can be used if you were able to log into the router's web interface. Most often, it is used if the router begins to behave unstable, or too many network parameters need to be changed (it’s faster to “reset” them and set them again).

Let's look at the steps in order.

1) Go to the router settings (). Usually it is enough to enter the IP address 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the browser and use it as login and password admin .

2) In the web interface, you need to find the “System Tools” / “Management” / “System Tools” section (what the section is called depends on your router model and firmware version).

For example, in TP-Link routers you need to open: "System Tools/Factory Resets" and press the button "Restore" - and the factory settings will be restored (see screenshot below).

Note! If you have an English version of the firmware, then the path for TP-Link will be: "System Tools/Factory Defaults/Restore".

As another example, use the Tenda router. Here, in principle, everything is the same: open the “Management” section, then find the subsection "Device Management" and see the "Reset" button. Just click on it and confirm your intentions...

Additions on the topic are always welcome...

Good job

A wireless router is a very convenient thing. With its help, you can “distribute” the Internet to even the entire entrance, the main thing is that the device’s capabilities allow you to do this. Most often, users, having set up the device once, forget about it until the Internet goes out. This is where the fun begins - you can’t get into the router’s interface, because you yourself, but forgot to write it down. There are other cases, for example, when you purchase an already configured device whose password has been changed. But no one bothered to tell you this information. There is only one way out - you need to reset the device settings to default, otherwise you won’t be able to get into the interface.

Absolutely every router, be it an access point or a modem with Wi-Fi mode, has a small hole on the back of the case, which can be difficult to see on dark plastic. Next to it is usually the Reset inscription, although often there are no inscriptions at all. Be that as it may, it is this small hole that is used for the so-called “hard” reboot of the router. It is worth noting that the hole is made so small for a reason - if the device falls on the floor or a cat jumps on it, then it will not reach the Reset button even if it wants to, which protects the settings from the outside.

To do this Hard Reset, you need to take something thin and long. I warn you right away - you cannot use a needle! I recommend taking a pen or stiff wire, then you won’t be able to damage the router. Plug the device into a power outlet, take the wire, insert it into the hole as far as it will go and hold it in this position until the lights on the front panel go out and come on again - this indicates that the settings have been returned to their original state. As a rule, the operation itself takes no more than seconds, after which the router must reboot, which will take a few more minutes.

After this, you can go to the admin panel of your router. As an example, let's take the extremely popular D-Link DIR-300 model. In order to get into the interface, you need to open any browser and enter the following address: 192.168.0.1. Next, enter the username and password: admin/admin (most models use the same default data), they can be found in the user manual or on the bottom of the router. Once in the control panel, you can configure the gadget for your Internet, change passwords, etc.

By the way, you can reset the settings directly from the interface. Here you need to find the item “Factory settings” or Settings Reset (there may be other English words) if you have a system in English. Click on the link and after some time the settings will return to factory settings. This takes a few minutes. This feature is present on any router.

VERY IMPORTANT! Do not forget that after the “hard” one, your Internet will most likely stop working, since the settings have been reset and you need to reinstall them. We hope you know how to do this, otherwise you will have to turn to your provider or at least Google for help.

Spontaneous reset

Quite often, users complain that the router settings are reset to default. Indeed, such a problem exists, but how to solve it is not always clear. First of all, go to your provider's forum, if there is one, and try to find a problem similar to yours. It is quite possible that you are not alone. In this case, it is usually recommended to change the firmware, and not necessarily to the latest one - on the contrary, sometimes it is recommended to roll it back to an earlier state when the device works without failures.

In other cases, constant voltage drops are to blame, which absolutely any user can encounter. It is difficult to advise anything in this case, but you can try using an uninterruptible power supply, which will allow you to forget about horse racing. Or, as a last resort, buy a high-quality surge protector.

How to reset your router if it becomes glitchy or your Wi-Fi password is lost? It turns out that this is quite easy to do. It is enough to keep two simple methods in mind and know how to use them.

When you reset the settings, the router will return to its original factory state and all the settings you made before will be lost.

Why reset your router?

Resetting the settings is nothing more than returning the router to factory settings. It is clear that this procedure is not performed if everything is fine with the router.

A hard reset is performed using a special button on the device body.

The reasons for the return may be incorrect operation of the network device, if the password for the Wi-Fi network is lost or forgotten, or the inability to log into the admin panel. All these problems can be solved by resetting the network device to its initial settings. Resetting the router settings can be done in two ways:

  1. Software (that is, return to factory settings from the admin panel of the network device);
  2. Hardware (by pressing a special button).

Depending on the cause of the malfunction, different return methods can be used. For example, if the Wi-Fi password was forgotten or lost, or some failure occurred in the system parameters, then you can use the software method. If something more serious happens - the parameters are lost, and you can’t log into the admin panel, you should use the hardware method.

Before you reset your router, you should save or rewrite these settings somewhere, otherwise you may not be able to configure the router after it has been reset.

You can find them both in the administrative panel and in the network environment. Otherwise, you will have to look for a passport with the settings or knock on the door of the provider’s technical support.

Software reset

A soft reset is used in cases where the password and login are known to the user and they can get into the administrative panel of the device.

One way to reset the router to factory settings is through software. What does it mean? Each router has an administrative panel from which you can manage and configure the router, block IP addresses, monitor upload and download speeds, reboot and reset settings. This is where you can return to factory settings without damaging the router. However, for each network device manufacturer and even for different brands, the administrative panel may differ in interface, location of some buttons and sections for configuration.

Before resetting the router and logging into the admin panel, you need to make sure that the router is working normally and has been connected to the computer. The Internet is not needed in this case, so no need to worry.

Open any browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1) in the command line. After this, you need to enter your login and password for authorization (most often the login and password are the same - admin).

The exact username and password can be found in your passport, as well as below (or somewhere on the side) on the information sticker of the network device. Next, we will consider the procedure for logging into the admin panel for each manufacturer separately.

Resetting to factory settings on devices from different manufacturers

Return to factory settings on TP-LINK brand models.

TP-LINK. Open the browser, enter the IP address of the network device in the address bar (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, depending on the model) and log in. In the right side panel, open the “System Tools” section. If the admin interface is in Russian, then this section will be called “System tools”. From the expanded list, click on the item “Factory Defaults” (in Russian “Factory settings”). Click on the “Restore” button.

D-Link DIR. We go to the administrative panel via IP address 192.168.0.1 and log in. In the top menu bar, open the “Maintenance” section, then click on “Save and Restore” in the right panel. In the window that appears, find the “Restore Device” button and click OK. Now you just have to wait a little, after which you can use the device again.

Asus. Go to the administrator panel via IP 192.168.1.1, enter your username and password. Open the “Administration” section at the bottom left. In the page that opens, go to the “Manage Settings” tab, which is located at the top right.

In the sign, click “Restore” next to the “Factory settings” line.

ZyXEL. We go to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and log in. On the left side of the menu, go to the “System” item. From the expanded list, select “Configuration”. On the page that opens, many buttons with different functions will appear, including reset. Click on it and wait for the process to complete. It will take literally a few minutes.

RosTelecom. Enter IP 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. In the left menu, click “Management”.

In the list that opens, click on “Options”, after which the “Reset” item will appear.

We open it, after a page with various information appears, click on the “Reset” button, then you need to wait for a while.

Hard reset

In addition to a software reset, there is also a hardware reset. It involves returning to factory settings by using a special “Reset” button. It is most likely located behind the network device. To press it, you will have to use a needle, paper clip or any other similar object, since it is located in a recess. It is best to find the passport for the device and read there how to reset the settings using hardware. If this is not possible, you should use general recommendations. Resetting the router using hardware looks like this.
