Skype on android white screen. Skype won't start - empty window

Unfortunately, errors in Skype are common. Moreover, you can encounter problems even at the stage of launching the program. Sometimes a white screen is displayed instead of the login form. At the same time, Skype itself does not glitch, but rebooting does not help.

White screen instead of login form

In Skype, the white screen at startup is not due to the program itself or to computer failures. It is caused by corrupted Internet Explorer configuration data. The fact is that this browser is used to load the authorization form. And if there is some problem with it, then logging into your account becomes impossible.

In this situation, there are two simple solutions: deleting temporary Internet Explorer files and returning Explorer settings to their initial values. One of these methods will definitely eliminate the white screen at the login stage. But before proceeding with the steps described below, you need to close Skype.

Option 1: Delete Internet Explorer temporary files

First, you should erase all temporary files in Internet Explorer:


Most likely, after this the white screen in Skype will disappear, and an authorization form will appear instead. If this is not the case, then a complete reset of Internet Explorer settings will help.

Option 2: Reset Internet Explorer settings

Again you need to open Internet Explorer properties. But this time in the menu, go to the “Advanced” section. The required item is there. Set the personal data to be cleared and click Reset. Finally, it is recommended to restart your computer.


Then open Skype and wait for it to load. Instead of a white screen, a form will appear where you need to enter your profile information. This completes the solution to the problem.

Sometimes on older computers you encounter an unpleasant situation when, upon opening a program, you see only a blank screen. More precisely, white window when launching Skype, in which nothing is displayed at all. Let's try to figure out what is the cause of this error, and also consider options for eliminating it.

Reasons for the error

Paradoxically, the problem is not with Skype. It lies in the Internet Explorer modules it uses. Essentially, by opening the account login window, we are loading an HTML page in an IE window. Through this page, the program contacts the remote server and authorizes you as its user with a login and password.

If you have this problem even though the Internet is generally working, then the reason why Skype shows a white screen at startup is Internet Explorer. To combat the white screen, you can apply the following measures:


"C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /legacylogin

For 32-bit systems, the address must use the folder Program Files. To log into Skype, double-click this shortcut and enter your username and password in the window that opens.

How to fix a white screen when launching Skype

The problem can be caused by various factors, including a malfunctioning version of Skype on the computer, virus activity, a conflict with other software on the computer and, oddly enough, the Internet Explorer browser. But first things first.

Method 1: Restore Internet Explorer to Factory Settings

This will probably seem strange to you, but Skype uses the resources of the Internet Explorer browser to operate. If this browser does not function correctly on the computer, the user sees a white screen instead of the program.

Method 2: Run Internet Explorer Health Check

If the first method does not bring any results, the function of checking the system for damaged system files can help you. If problems with Internet Explorer are found, the system will fix them.

Scanning the system can take quite a long time, so be prepared to keep your computer running for several hours. When the file scan is completed and Windows has fixed all the problems found, all you have to do is restart your computer and check that Skype is working.

Method 3: Reinstall Skype

You shouldn’t rule out the possibility that Skype is not working correctly. In this case, reinstalling it may help you.

  1. First of all, you will need to remove Skype from your computer. Please note that in this case it is recommended to completely remove the program from the computer, and this option can be provided by the program, which will first perform the usual removal of the program, and then additionally scan the system for the presence of remaining files and keys in the registry, which may subsequently lead to the fact that the problem with Skype will not be solved.
  2. When the removal is complete, be sure to restart your computer. This is necessary for the system to finally accept the changes made.
  3. Download the latest version of Skype from the link at the end of the article and install it on your computer.

Method 4: System Restore

Windows OS provides a special function that allows you to return your computer to the point when it was working correctly. If Skype worked some time ago, then this step may help you solve the problem.

Method 5: Create a new Skype login shortcut

If you launch Skype from a desktop shortcut, you can try creating a new shortcut.

  1. First, close Skype. To do this, right-click on the program icon in the tray and select the item in the context menu that appears. "Exit Skype".

  2. Right-click on any free area of ​​the desktop and go to “Create” – “Shortcut”.

  3. A window will appear on the screen in which you will need to specify the location of the executive file of the program to be launched. Click on the button "Review".

  4. An explorer will open in which you will need to find the program's executive file, which is usually located at:

    C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone

    Select the program executable file with a mouse click and click on the button "OK".

  5. Click the button "Further".

One of the problems that Skype users may encounter is a white screen upon startup. The worst part is that the user cannot even try to log into their account. Let's find out what causes this phenomenon and what ways to correct this problem exist.

Lost connection when starting the program

One of the reasons why a white screen might appear when launching Skype is that the Internet connection is interrupted while Skype is loading. But there can be a lot of reasons for the break itself: from problems on the provider’s side to modem problems, or short circuits in local networks.

Accordingly, the solution is either to find out the reasons from the provider, or to repair the breakdown on site.

IE faults

As you know, Skype uses the Internet Explorer browser as its engine. Namely, problems with this browser can cause a white window to appear when entering the program. In order to fix this, first of all you need to try resetting IE settings.

Close Skype and launch IE. Go to the settings section by clicking on the gear located in the upper right corner of the browser. In the list that appears, select “Internet Options”.

In the window that opens, go to the “Advanced” tab. Click on the “Reset” button.

Then, another window opens, in which you should check the box next to “Delete personal settings”. We do this and click on the “Reset” button.

After this, you can launch Skype and check its functionality.

If these steps do not help, close Skype and IE. By pressing the Win+R key combination on the keyboard, we call up the “Run” window.

We sequentially enter the following commands into this window:

  • regsvr32 Ole32.dll
  • regsvr32Inseng.dll
  • regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
  • regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
  • regsvr32 Urlmon.dll.

After entering each individual command from the list presented, click on the “OK” button.

The fact is that the white screen problem occurs when one of these IE files, for some reason, is not registered in the Windows system registry. This is how registration is carried out.

But, in this case, you can do it differently - reinstall Internet Explorer.

If none of the above manipulations with the browser produce results, and the screen in Skype is still white, then you can temporarily disable the connection between Skype and Internet Explorer. At the same time, the main page and some other minor functions will not be available in Skype, but, on the other hand, you will be able to log into your account, make calls, and correspond without any problems, getting rid of the white screen.

In order to disconnect Skype from IE, remove the Skype shortcut on the desktop. Next, using Explorer, go to the address C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone, right-click on the Skype.exe file, and select “Create shortcut”.

After creating the shortcut, return to the Desktop, right-click on the shortcut, and select “Properties”.

In the “Shortcut” tab of the window that opens, look for the “Object” field. We add the value “/legacylogin” without quotes to the expression that is already in the field. Click on the “OK” button.

Now, when you click on this shortcut, a version of Skype that is not associated with the Internet Explorer browser will be launched.

Reinstalling Skype with factory reset

A universal way to fix problems with Skype is to reinstall the application and reset the settings. Of course, this does not guarantee 100% elimination of the problem, but, nevertheless, it is a way out for solving the problem with many types of malfunctions, including when a white screen occurs when launching Skype.

First of all, we completely stop Skype by “killing” the process using the Windows Task Manager.

Open the “Run” window. We do this by pressing the Win+R key combination on the keyboard. In the window that opens, enter the command “%APPDATA%\” and click on the button labeled “OK”.

We are looking for the Skype folder. If it is not critical for the user to save chat correspondence and some other data, then we simply delete this folder. Otherwise, we rename it as we wish.

We remove Skype in the usual way, through the Windows Uninstall and Change Programs service.

After this, we carry out the standard Skype installation procedure.

Let's launch the program. If the launch was successful and there is no white screen, then close the application again and move the main.db file from the renamed folder to the newly formed Skype directory. Therefore, we will return the correspondence. Otherwise, we simply delete the new Skype folder and return the old folder to its previous name. We continue to look for the reason for the white screen elsewhere.

As you can see, the reasons for the white screen on Skype can be completely different. But, if this is not a banal disconnection during a connection, then with a high probability we can assume that the root cause of the problem should be sought in the functionality of the Internet Explorer browser.
