The Feedburner service is alive or everyone is switching to alternative methods. Customizing the appearance of the blog's RSS feed. Let's look at how to create an RSS feed in the FeedBurner service

Hi all. Many WordPress bloggers use the Feedburner service to set up an RSS feed. Feedburner is free service, which provides bloggers with subscriber statistics, allows your readers to subscribe via a subscription form (via email) to blog updates, and much more. Most bloggers have been using the service for many years.

Will Feedburner service close or not?

Now there is a rumor that Google is going to close the service, since Feedburner has not been updated for a long time and alternative methods will soon be available, namely professional services email newsletters will completely replace Feedburner. But they are paid, so many bloggers are in no hurry to abandon Feedburner. What do you think about this? Have you abandoned the "dying" Feedburner service. Your opinion is very important, let's discuss this issue in the comments.

There is a simple Feedburner Form plugin that will give us, in the early stages of establishing a blog, the opportunity to display a widget with a subscription form for new articles on your blog through the FeedBurner service. Therefore, I will tell you about it, since I recommend this method for beginners. Next, you can always export your list of subscribers to professional mailing services.

I hope everyone has their admin settings set up correctly WordPress options readings, so that your readers receive only announcements, and incomplete text. Otherwise, why would they go to your blog to read a useful article. By the way, readers who subscribe to my blog in Lately observed exactly this picture All because I stopped putting a tag< !--more-- >; when writing an article, since this happens automatically in the new template, I got a little confused with this function).

Let's look at how to create an RSS feed in the FeedBurner service

If you have not yet “lit” your feed, you can do this at: feedburner.google.com, provided that you have a Google account.

On the service, do not forget to switch the language to Russian, enter the address of your resource and click NEXT. Next, select the feed source and give a name to your RSS feed (feed) and click “Save”. You have burned the entire feed and activated the RSS feed.

Now you can independently configure other functions for channel design and subscription, welcome letter and delivery. The only thing I’ll look at is setting up the counter in the Feedburner service, so that in the plugin settings you can, if you wish, activate the display by the number of readers.

To do this, go to the top tab “Publish”, then “FeedCount”. Setting it up appearance(color) counter that matches your blog design. The choice of style is small, only two options. Most importantly, do not forget to save all changes.

The plugin is useful for those who do not want or are afraid to insert the subscription form code into WordPress blog files. You can also redirect the channel using the .htaccess file.

Installing and configuring the Feedburner Form plugin - a subscription form for your blog

  • 1. To do this, first download the Feedburner Form plugin Here download and activate in administrative panel your blog.
  • 2. To configure the plugin, go to Appearance => Widgets.
Select the “Feedburner Form” widget that is now available to us. We drag it into the sitebar and configure it as shown in the screenshot below.

  • 3. To display an icon, you can upload any image to your file library, go to the parameters and copy the URL. Next, insert the image address into the “Link to icon” column. As alternative method you can use HTML code.
  • 4. Setting up the RSS feed subscriber counter display is very simple. To do this, you need to select the color and style of the counter in the plugin widget - static or animated. Don't forget to save all changes.

This is such a nice subscription form.

Inserting RSS feed code into a WordPress blog template.

  • 1. On the FeedBurner service, in the “Publish” tab, look for “Subscription by email (mail)” in the right menu, click and go to the “Subscription Management” tab. In the window that opens, change the language and copy the HTML code. Click “Save”. All that remains is to insert the subscription code into your blog template.

Good afternoon friends! Just recently I wrote an article about and one of the ways to get traffic to the blog was through a subscriber base. This is exactly what we will talk about in this article.

Let's look at the feedburner service in detail, namely:

  • What is feedburner and how does it work;
  • How to set up a subscription via feedburner;
  • How to set up emails sent with article announcements in the WordPress admin area;

What is feedburner and how does it work?

FeedBurner is the most best service, which provides RSS services. FeedBurner tools make it possible for owners of their own websites/blogs to gain a subscription base.

Thanks to this, subscribers will receive announcements of new articles from your resource in their email. If you are a blogger, podcaster, or owner of a commercial website, then this information is for you, because traffic will largely depend on your subscriber base.

The service works quite simply. The main thing is to understand the English-language interface. Of course, it is possible to translate almost everything into Russian, decide for yourself. We will talk about all this further...

After you have completed all the settings and installed a subscription form (attractive) on your blog, you will need to gain subscribers, after which they will receive letters with a link to your resource. The more subscribers, the higher the traffic to your blog. Hence FeedBurner is at it.

How to set up a subscription via feedburner?

FeedBurner - component Google search engine, which means that to register in the service you need to provide gmail address. If you don't have one yet, then be sure to create it.

Next, we copy the address of the RSS feed on your blog. It looks like this: your_site.ru/feed/, BUT only then will it look like this if you have permanent links configured. Permalinks are the URLs of your articles. More about this in the section

Paste the copied address into the field where it says “light up” the feed. Click Next and write down the name of the feed and its address, come up with it, everything is at your discretion.

That's it for all my friends. Just kidding, of course, I just started. But we did one thing for sure. Now your feed is available at (feedburner.google.com/and here we enter the address that we came up with). In general, it’s understandable. The main thing is to know the aspects, and everything is done very, very easily. You will do it one hundred percent.

Click “Next” again and “Next” for the 3rd time. The settings are left at default, as this is not very important. If you suddenly need something, you can always adjust it to suit you.

With this clear, they called to continue and moved on. It's time to set up your WordPress feed.

1. Go to the “Optimize” section, check “Browser Friendly” on the left side. Where “Subject” we select (Russian) and check the box below. Save the settings.

2. We’ve sorted out “optimize”, go to “Publish”. Now let’s find the form code for our sidebar. After you go to “Publish”, go to “Subscriptions by mail” and activate it. Select the language Russian. and copy the form script, then we will add this code to our site, but not in this form, since we will change it a little. At the bottom of the page, select “Send me an email when a person unsubscribes from the mailing list.” This is optional, but I think it would be better to keep track of the statistics. Based on this, you will draw a conclusion: is your site interesting to the main audience or not.

3. Click “Communication Preferences” and write a letter that will be sent to everyone if they have subscribed to the blog’s RSS feed. The body of the letter is arbitrary, the main thing is that it is interesting.

For example, like this:

Greetings, dear reader!
You have just subscribed to receive new articles from the blog “and here’s the title.” You can confirm your subscription using the link
$(confirmlink).

4. Open “Email Branding” and enter: “$(latestItemTitle)”. What does this give? Allows you to display the title of the article being sent, that is, the title, in the email subject.

5. Well, the last point where you should make settings is “Delivery Options”. We configure the time zone and time of day when a letter will be sent to subscribers about the appearance of a new article on the blog. You can set approximately 9,10,11 hours before lunch. I think this is when people open their mailbox during this period of the day.

Editing the subscription form code. Let's make her attractive.

If you insert the code of the subscription form that the service provides into the admin panel of your blog in the APPEARANCE -> WIDGETS section, it will look like this.

I think that this is not very attractive and not everyone will want to include their email address. Therefore, we need to make it more beautiful.

Here is the finished code for you.

Hello, my beloved readers! In previous articles I talked about news feeds from the reader’s perspective; this article will be dedicated primarily to site owners. We will talk about a service that should be used to set up an RSS news feed, obtain a subscriber counter and organize a subscription by e-mail.

Why is it necessary to add a site's RSS feed to FeedBurner? There are several reasons for this:

  • FeedBurner relays your blog, allowing you to customize its appearance;
  • the ability to get a subscriber counter - the number of subscribers is one of the characteristics of the success of a blog and directly affects the profit received from it;
  • Feed burner allows you to organize a subscription by e-mail;
  • new, more convenient and functional page RSS subscriptions, which feature the most popular RSS readers;
  • provides comprehensive statistics on RSS feed and subscribers for analysis.
  • and other joys.

Of course, no one is forcing you to use this service, but today the vast majority of sites and blogs relay their news feeds through it, and this is, albeit not formally, but actually a mandatory requirement for quality internet resource.

How to Add RSS to FeedBurner

As I said above, this service belongs to Google, so you must have your own account on this search engine - create a new account on Google. Google provides simply a huge number services for all occasions, therefore this account You will need it more than once or twice. After you are authorized on Google, follow the following link. You will be taken to home page FeedBurner from which to add a new feed.

By default, the interface language is English, so you should go to the “Languages” section on the right top corner and select Russian language.

Enter the address of your site's news feed and click "Next".

On next page you will be greeted and invited to light the fmd. Already starting to feel like a pyromaniac? Enter the name of the feed (I recommend using the site name and short description) and RSS address (it is better to also indicate the name of your site). Now new address the news feed will look like this:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/site_address

Click “Next” and accept congratulations. Now your feed has found life, if such a thing can be said about a feed. Go ahead...

The next page asks you to configure the statistics provided by FeedBurner. By default, the following free services are available:

  • Circulation - shows how many subscribers there are. Perhaps the most important function.
  • Readership - which RSS readers subscribers use. More for curiosity than for practical use.
  • Unusual Uses - Monitors sites and services that use your news feed

In practice, these statistics are quite enough, but if you want more, you can check the remaining boxes. In any case, they can be turned on or off in FeedBurner's statistics settings, so don't stay too long on this page.

Setting up RSS in FeedBurner

I think you've already noticed along the way adding RSS that half of the text is in English and half in Russian. Unfortunately, the interface has the same problem. Therefore, I will try to take a closer look at the proposed settings.

The first settings item is called “Analyze” - it presents statistics.

In chapter "Dashboard" - "Subscribers" a graph of subscribers and a list of RSS readers they use are presented. The service updates statistics approximately once a day, so the graph is a broken line. In the early stages of the development of an Internet resource, the number of subscribers can noticeably jump up or down, depending on whether there was a publication on that day or not.

Sections "Use of Publications" and "Map Overlay" can be enabled in TotalStats if you did not do so during the process of adding RSS to FeedBurner. Post Usage provides statistics on views, clicks, and downloads. And in Map Overlay there is a world map on which 25 countries are represented, and it is possible to see the number of views of publications for each of these countries.

The last section of statistics is devoted to « unusual uses» . As I said above, these are sites and services that use your site’s news feed.

Let's move on to the next section of the RSS settings in FeedBurner - “Optimize”. Let's look at the most useful options.

Your feed - shows the appearance of the news feed. You can't configure anything, you can only look.

BrowserFriendly - setting up a subscription page.

  • Subject - specify the Russian theme ClearFeed (Russian).
  • Subscription options - list of RSS readers for quick subscription. On the one hand, the more you mark, the better - everyone will find a familiar reader, but on the other hand, the main ones - Yandex.Lenta and Google.Reader - may get lost among this variety.
  • Content options - define the feed content (for my blog I chose the option “show a list of titles and contents of articles”, but be sure to use the FeedBurner and Better Feed Options plugins for WordPress) and a personal message for the reader (try to briefly and succinctly outline the topic of the site) .

Go to the SmartFeed section. In it, just click on the “Activate” button, which will automatically convert the news feed format (RSS or Atom) depending on the capabilities RSS reader reader.

Summary Burner this option allows you to set maximum amount the first characters of the article, which are used as an announcement, as well as text to go to full version. This is a somewhat clumsy means of creating an article announcement, so for this purpose it is preferable to use the functionality of your . Let's say in WordPress use the Ozh" Better Feed plugin.

Go to the “Publish” tab.

Title animator- allows you to create an animated GIF image to advertise your site and its news feed. The created image can be added to services such as MySpace, TypePad, Blogger and some others. The picture can be set up easily and clearly, so there should be no difficulties with this.

PingShot - notifies Internet services about the appearance of new publications. It may speed up the indexing of new site pages somewhat, so activate this option.

Let’s take a closer look at the remaining two important options in the “Publish” section.

Setting up an email subscription

Settings for subscribing to site news by e-mail are in the section Email Subscriptions. The first thing you should start with is activating the service subscriptions by email. After activating the service, you will be able to manage your subscription.

1. Subscription Management. Select Language - Russian language. Now you can copy the form to subscribe to news by e-mail. The subscription form is html code, which can be adapted to the site design.

2. Communication Preferences - you need to configure the type of letter confirming your subscription to the news feed by e-mail. As you can see, by default the title of the letter and its text are English language, so I give the correct translation:

Confirmation email subject:

3. Email Branding - customizing the appearance HTML letters. All changes made are immediately shown in the “HTML Message Preview” window.

4. Delivery Options - delivery options. Select your time zone and email delivery time.

Getting subscriber count from FeedBurner

Go to the FeedCount section and activate the subscriber counter. After activation, you can choose the style of the counter - static or animated, as well as the color background and text. All changes in color scheme are immediately shown in the example.

If you look closely at the counter code, you will notice an external link to the site’s RSS feed. It is better to close this link from indexing using the attribute and noindex tags, and also specify the output of the page with RSS subscription in a new tab using the target="_blank" attribute. As a result, the subscriber counter code will look something like this:

< noindex>< p>< a rel= "nofollow" target= "_blank" href= "http://feeds.feedburner.com/Fairheartru"> < img src= "http://feeds.feedburner.com/~fc/Fairheartru?bg=99CCFF&fg=444444&anim=0" height= "26" width= "88" style= "border:0" alt= "" />

All that remains is to insert the html code into your site, just don’t rush into it. If you have few subscribers, then a counter that reflects this fact may only discourage readers. Post it only when there are enough subscribers to inspire the reader’s trust in your online resource. Everyone determines this threshold for themselves.

That's all! Thank you for your attention. Be sure to subscribe to my blog's news feed. All the best to you!

Hello, dear readers of the blog site. This is another article in which we continue the conversation about, begun in the article that talks about.

Today we will talk about Feedburner (FB) and what is connected with it. Let's set up broadcasting of our feed ( news feed site) through it, we will invite visitors to subscribe to news via E-mail and receive a Feedburner counter code that will display the number of readers (subscribers).

Nowadays you will practically not find a resource that would not have an RSS feed and broadcast it through Feedburner. But why is this necessary and why is everyone doing this? Firstly, in this way everything is reduced to standard format, which is supported by any reader program. Secondly, we get a very flexible tool with a lot of settings. Thirdly, we will always be able to know the exact number of subscribers to our news channel.

If you have a blog on WordPress and you want to customize the display of your feed passed through Feedburner the way I did, then read about the plugin that will help you with this difficult task.

How to add and customize your RSS feed in Feedburner

Once again to the question - why is this necessary? This is especially true if you own a blog. The fact is that according to the readings of the FeedBurner counter, indirect assessment of the success of your project(for example, your potential advertisers or ordinary readers).

The place your blog occupies in a variety of websites will depend on the counter indicators, as well as the price for advertising placed on your blog (read about and).

Therefore, if you want your blog to be profitable in the future, then add counter subscribers to your news channel will need to mandatory, without putting it off for a long time.

Another great feature is the ability tune Email subscription via FeedBurner. In this case, a visitor to your resource will only need to indicate their e-mail address. In no case should you neglect this opportunity, because... Not all visitors to your resource know how to work with readers, but everyone can work with mail. This way you definitely increase the potential number of your subscribers.

By the way, if you suspect that the one collected with such difficulty subscriber base sinks into oblivion, for example, in the event of Feedburner's sudden death, then I can reassure you - at any time you can save it by downloading it from the service to your computer in CSV format and, if desired, use it in any other email newsletter service (Smartresponder, etc.). But keep in mind that mailing to a large database there will cost quite a lot of money, but FB does all this absolutely free:

There are a number of other advantages to using FeedBurner, but it would be better to talk about them at specific example settings using the feature-rich interface for managing your feed that it provides us with.

Myself online service owned by Google and, accordingly, to work with any product of this company you need. Along with your account you will receive a download and, which is on this moment can be considered one of the most secure and resistant to hacking. But this is true, by the way.

Login to your Google account you can enter those received during creation mailbox login and password. Once you are logged into Google, simply go to home page service: feedburner.google.com. If the page display language does not automatically switch to Russian, then click on the “Languages” link at the very top right of the page and select Russian.

To begin, you will need to insert into the form called “Light up the feed right now” the address of your RSS feed (in my case it is: https://site/feed, if you don’t know where to look at this address (URL), then the link to which is given at the very beginning of this article will help you with this) and click the “ Next".

You will be taken to a page where you will need to enter the future name of your feed in the “Feed Name” field, and enter the future name of your feed in the “Feed Address” field using letters and numbers, the desired ending Url.

This ending will be added to:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/

For example, the URL of my new RSS feed (already passed through Feedburner) will look like this:

Then click the “Next” button and you will be taken to a page where they congratulate you on creating a feed and provide a link that you will use in the future on your resource and wherever possible (http://feeds.feedburner.com/Ktonanovenkogoru, in in my case) and offer to go directly to the settings. Which is what we will do by clicking the “Next” button.

On the next page of the wizard, you decide whether you need to check some boxes and again click the “Next” button. At the top of the page that opens, you can see a panel with tabs “Analyze”, “Optimize”, “Publish”, “Solve problems”, “My feeds”.

Using these tabs we will make further adjustments to our feed in Feedburner. Unfortunately, not all settings pages have yet been fully translated into Russian, but over time, I think this will be fixed.

FeedBurner counter for website

I’ll start with the counter, because... the majority add their feed here precisely because of the opportunity to find out the number of subscribers, and when big numbers also boast about it with the help of an informer. So, for this we will need to open the tab "Publish" and select in the left column the item called "FeedCount".

The counter will display in real time (usually the information is updated about once a day or so) the number of subscribers to your feed passed through FeedBurner (sometimes there are strange drops in the readings to zero or so, but on them special attention should not be converted).

In order to take advantage of FeedCount's capabilities, you will need to first activate it. To do this, click on the “Activate” button located at the bottom of the page.

As a result, the FeedCount window will change. At the top of the window there will be a code for the RSS subscriber counter, which you can copy and paste into your website (in any suitable place in the template). Above the code field you can see the appearance of the informer you will receive.

In order to configure the Feedburner counter, you can use the tool designed for this, located under the window with the code.

In this window you, firstly, can choose whether your counter will be “Static” or “Animated”, and secondly, you can tune color scheme , both the Feedburner counter itself and the text displayed on it. To do this, just check either the “body” box or the “text” box, and then click on the desired color in the color palette shown there.

Advertisers on these exchanges often take into account the number of external links from pages, and the fewer there are, the better. Therefore we need close from indexing search engines All external links, located in various counters(including FeedBurner) and other things that do not need to be left open.

To prohibit indexing of such links by search engines Google system(and Yandex too) is used. As a result, final code our counter RSS quantities subscribers will look like:

It is up to you whether to make the changes described above.

Setting up a subscription to RSS feed by email

Now let's look at the second most important (and maybe the first) aspect of working with rss feed via FeedBurner, namely Possibility of subscription via E-mail by means of Feedburner. Once again, this is very important if you want all visitors who like your resource to have the opportunity to subscribe to the newsletter in a form convenient for them.

The fact is that not all visitors are familiar with readers, and e-mail is banal and simple even for full of teapots. Therefore, we set up the ability to receive news via E-mail, well, without fail. So, first we will need to open the “Publish” tab and select in the left column the item called "Email Subscriptions".

In order to use this service, you will need to first activate it. To do this, click on the button located at the bottom of the page “ Activate».

After this, in the left column of the settings window under the “Email subscriptions” field, four more items will appear that allow you to detailed setup receiving emails about new materials on email your visitors.

When selecting an item "Subscription Management"(Subscription Management) you have the opportunity to copy the code for the subscription form, which you will then need to paste into your website template, similar to the counter described just above. After appropriate modification, such a form may look, for example, like this (the form is clickable, i.e. working):

On the same Feedburner settings page, below the subscription form, there is link code for email subscription. It can be inserted into a website template in the form text link, or use an image as its anchor (post a link to a picture that makes sense). For example, like this (the button is clickable):

This code can be slightly modified. First, you can again configure it so that after clicking on the subscription link, a subscription confirmation window opens in a new browser window. You can also block all external links from indexing in the subscription form and in the subscription link (I already wrote about this a little higher, when setting up the counter code).

You can also slightly change the code of the RSS subscription form to E-mail in order for such a feature to appear, which you can see in the subscription form given just above. I made it so that the “Enter your e-mail” inscription that was initially present in the FeedBurner form disappeared as soon as the visitor clicked in this field. It seems like a trifle, but it’s nice and convenient. The visitor will not need to erase this inscription before entering his mailbox address.

This is achieved by adding the ONFOCUS attribute with the appropriate parameters to the INPUT tag. I have already talked about, but you can do everything by analogy with my case.

This original code:

Enter your email address:

Delivered by FeedBurner

And this one is slightly modified:

I think that after analyzing the original and modified versions, you will be able to make appropriate changes to the code of your form. In fact, you just need to replace the line in the original:

I also changed the way I set the “Subscribe” button, but I don’t think you’ll need it.

Customizing the appearance of the FeedBurner subscription confirmation email

Let's move on to the next setting item called "Communication Preferences".

There are three things you can configure on this page. First, enter the email that the subscriber will see in the “From” field in the received confirmation email. By default, the email address of your Google account will be listed there. Accordingly, if necessary, you can change it here.

Secondly, on this page you can edit the title and text of the letter that the user will receive after subscribing to the RSS feed by email. By default, the text written in these fields will be in English, so if you want your subscribers not to have unnecessary questions when confirming their subscription to your news feed, be sure to enter in the “Subject of the confirmation letter” and “Body of the confirmation letter” fields » explanatory text in Russian(can be used for this purpose).

I wrote the following:

Activation of your e-mail subscription to: site - blog for beginner webmasters

Hello! You have subscribed to the e-mail newsletter of the blog site - everything for beginner webmasters. To confirm your subscription, you need to click on the following link: $(confirmlink) Notes: If when you click on the link, the confirmation page does not open, then copy the link into the address bar of your browser and click<<Перейти>> or<> on the keyboard.

After making changes, do not forget to click on the “Save” button at the bottom of the page. I advise you to check the type of letter that comes from FeedBurner by subscribing to your own mailing list and looking at the message received.

Let's move on to the next setting item: - "Email Branding". On the page that opens, you can customize the title of the sent letter in the “Subject/Title of the letter” field, and you can also enter the logo address in the “Logo URL” field so that the letter with your RSS newsletter is visually recognizable.

In the following fields you can configure the font type, size and color separately for the title and body of the message. All changes made are immediately reflected in the test sample letter at the bottom of the settings window. When you achieve an acceptable result, do not forget to click on the “Save” button at the bottom of the window.

We still have one more item to consider in the settings menu - "Delivery Options".

Here you can select your time zone, and also, in the “Set up email delivery” field, select the time interval in which emails with new materials from your site will be delivered.

Additional RSS feed settings in Feedburner

In order for each of your website visitors to choose a convenient way to read news, you need to provide this option. To do this, you need to log into your account on the Feedburner service and select the one you need from the “My Feeds” list.

Next, you must open the “Optimize” tab and select the item from the left menu of the window that opens "Browser Friendly". In the “Appearance Options” area, in the “Theme” field, you can select a language, and in the field with images of RSS subscription buttons, you can check only those that you want to see in the “Subscription” area of your feed:

In the Content Options area, in the Feed Content field, you can select, what exactly will be displayed in your feed: a list of article titles with their contents, a list of only article titles, or a list of articles altogether will not be displayed.

In the “Personal message” field you can enter the text of your message, which will be displayed on the page of your RSS feed added and improved in Feedburner:

Well, if you change your feed, you can set up redirection from the old feed to the new one (redirect). Don’t forget to click on the “Save” button after making all changes.

Please note that if you have set up the ability to receive news by email in this Google service (we talked about this a little higher), then in the “Subscription” area an invitation to use this method will also be displayed.

In order to be sure that your news feed will be displayed correctly in all existing reading programs (readers), you need to activate the appropriate option in the service settings. To do this, just open the “Optimize” tab and select the item from the left menu of the window that opens "SmartFeed". Click the “Activate” button and now, depending on the reader used by the visitor to your site, the stream will be converted on the fly into RSS or Atom format.

The Feedburner service allows you to add any image, for example, the logo of your site, to the page of your RSS feed. Moreover, you can attach a link to this image, for example, to your resource. It will look something like this:

To do this, on the settings page you must open the “Optimize” tab and select the item from the left menu of the window that opens "Feed Image Burner". In the “Image Source” field, select the “Specify custom image URL” option from the drop-down list.

Png). In the next two settings fields, you can specify the contents of the Html TITLE tag for this image (include keywords in it, since the contents of this Html tag will act as an anchor for the link from this image) and the link address (to your project).

Good luck to you! See you soon on the pages of the blog site

Flexor 5

This is a small plugin whose only function is to redirect blog RSS feeds to the service FeedBurner. What is RSS and why “burn” your RSS feed through FeedBurner all more or less experienced bloggers know. But this article will be mainly for beginners, to whom I will briefly tell them everything they need to know.

If a person has subscribed to my RSS feed, then he will learn about the appearance of this article from his RSS reader, for example, through the InoReader.com reader, in which this entry will look like this:

This begs the question - why find out about the appearance of a new entry through some incomprehensible reader, if you can just go to the site and find out about the new one first-hand? The fact is that there are millions of sites, you cannot go around dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of sites every day to find out if something new has appeared there. You can’t even stuff a hundred sites into your browser bookmarks – then it’s very difficult to sort through this mountain of bookmarked sites.

That's why we need RSS feeds that you can subscribe to. We accidentally visited a site, you liked it, click on the RSS button and subscribe to site updates. After this, we regularly go to our RSS reader, which will helpfully display new entries on the sites whose subscription you have subscribed to. It is much easier to spend 30 minutes reading an RSS reader than several hours crawling bookmarked sites.

IN WordPress RSS feeds are generated automatically for everything possible. They are available for the entire site, separately for comments, separately for categories and tags, but by and large, both you and visitors are interested in only one feed - the main one, in which new blog entries are published.

This begs the second question - why do you need to “burn” your feed through the service? FeedBurner, if in WordPress Do you have your own feed that you can subscribe to, bypassing any “intermediaries”? There are two nuances here. First - service FeedBurner knows how to count your subscribers, and this information will never be superfluous. And second - service FeedBurner significantly reduces the load on your server. For obvious reasons - if you have 1000 RSS feed subscribers, then their RSS readers will regularly visit your site to check if your RSS feed has been updated? And with each such request, the RSS feed will be generated anew by the engine, even if no changes have occurred in it. The more popular your site, the more load RSS feed subscribers will create on it.

Therefore, based on the above, “burn” (from the word “burn”, that is, “burn”) the tape through FeedBurner mandatory. How it works? You are burning through your feed on FeedBurner, thereby making a copy of it on their server. But how can we now redirect everyone who wants to read a copy of the tape to FeedBurner, and not the original on your website? This is what the plugin is for - it gives access to your original RSS feed only to the service itself FeedBurner, and redirects everyone else to a copy. Have you decided to “burn” your feed? Then let's start by installing the plugin.

1 Unpack the archive.

2 Copy the folder feedburner-plugin V /wp-content/plugins/.

3 Go to the blog admin panel on the "tab" Plugins" and activate the plugin.

The plugin settings are located in " Options\Feedburner", but here you have nothing to configure yet, since first you need to “burn” your RSS feed. To do this, go to the website http://feedburner.google.com, log in Google-account (since FeedBurner has long been purchased by Google) and we see the following:

Just remember to select Russian in the settings. Feedburner translated crookedly and not completely, but quite enough so that you can figure out its settings without reading numerous manuals.

This is where you need to start burning your RSS feed. Enter the link to your RSS feed here. Don't know this link? Then let me remind you that with the CNC installed, the link to the main RSS feed looks like " http://www.site.ru/feed", and if you do not have CNC installed, then the link will look like " http://www.site.ru/?feed=rss2". Enter the link to your feed and click on the button " Next" (using the example of my test site testwp.ru):

It is useless to indicate anything meaningful here, since all the more or less interesting names have been taken a long time ago. The easiest way is to provide a name based on your blog's domain. In fact, this does not matter, so select any name and click on the button " Next":

Actually, you have already “burned” the tape and now it is available at the address you chose. You can click on " Next" and set up additional statistics functions or start managing your feed right away.

By the way, FeedBurner can be used to publish announcements of your articles via Twitter. I wrote about this in the article.

Your feed is on FeedBurner Already working. Now let's go back to the plugin settings and add a link to your feed there:

Click on " Save". That's it, now when you request your RSS feed, it will be redirected to the copy that you made on FeedBurner. There is no need to create a comment feed or change other settings here. Although, of course, it's up to you to decide. In fact, in order to redirect the feed to FeedBurner There is no need to use the plugin. Just add the following code to the beginning of the file .htaccess in the root of your site:

http://ping.feedburner.com http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/ping

This is necessary for the service FeedBurner knew that your RSS feed was updated immediately after any changes appeared in it. Then your copy of the tape is on FeedBurner will always be up to date.

Actually, that's all. But don't forget about various RSS plugins that will make your RSS feed look better. For example, set records or . Take a look through the sections on this site and you will probably find something useful for yourself.
