How to work with the Kies program for Samsung. Firmware for a “gray” phone via Kies Samsung. Video: overview of the functionality of the Samsung Kies application

Sometimes samsung kies (lite).lnk and other LNK system errors can be related to problems in the Windows registry. Several programs can use the samsung kies (lite).lnk file, but when these programs are uninstalled or modified, sometimes "orphaned" (incorrect) LNK registry entries are left behind.

Basically, this means that while the actual path of the file may have changed, its incorrect former location is still recorded in the Windows Registry. When Windows tries looking up these incorrect file references (file locations on your PC), samsung kies (lite).lnk errors can occur. Additionally, a malware infection may have corrupted registry entries associated with Third-Party Application. Thus, these corrupted LNK registry entries need to be fixed to fix the problem at the root.

Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid samsung kies (lite).lnk keys is not recommended unless you are a PC service professional. Mistakes made when editing the registry can render your PC inoperable and cause irreparable damage to your operating system. In fact, even one comma placed in the wrong place can prevent your computer from booting!

Because of this risk, we highly recommend using a trusted registry cleaner such as WinThruster (Developed by Microsoft Gold Certified Partner) to scan and repair any samsung kies (lite).lnk-related registry problems. Using a registry cleaner, you can automate the process of finding damaged registry entries, links to missing files (for example, causing samsung error kies (lite).lnk) and broken links within the registry. Before each scan, a backup copy is automatically created, allowing you to undo any changes with one click and protecting you from possible damage to your computer. The best part is that eliminating registry errors can dramatically improve system speed and performance.

Warning: Unless you are an experienced PC user, we DO NOT recommend manually editing the Windows Registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems and require Windows reinstallation. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from incorrect use of Registry Editor can be corrected. You use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Before you manually repair the Windows registry, you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry associated with samsung kies (lite).lnk (for example, Third-Party Application):

  1. Click on the button Begin.
  2. Enter " command" V search bar... DON'T CLICK YET ENTER!
  3. While holding down the keys CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, press ENTER.
  4. A dialog box for access will be displayed.
  5. Click Yes.
  6. The black box opens with a blinking cursor.
  7. Enter " regedit" and press ENTER.
  8. In the Registry Editor, select the samsung kies (lite).lnk-related key (for example, Third-Party Application) you want to back up.
  9. On the menu File select Export.
  10. On the list Save to Select the folder where you want to save the Third-Party Application key backup.
  11. In field File name Enter a name for the backup file, for example "Third-Party Application backup".
  12. Make sure the field Export range value selected Selected branch.
  13. Click Save.
  14. The file will be saved with extension .reg.
  15. You now have a backup of your samsung kies (lite).lnk-related registry entry.

The following steps for manually editing the registry will not be described in this article, as they are likely to damage your system. If you want to receive more information about manually editing the registry, please see the links below.

While Samsung Kies(Key Intuitive Easy System) is the program which is developed by Samsung themselves, it isn’t as commonly used as the other options which are available. For that reason alone, today we are going to focus in on Samsung Key and talk you through some of the different methods that it consists of, providing you a step by step breakdown along the way. Our focus today will be data management, although Samsung Kies has a lot more to offer.

Part 1. Samsung Kies or Samsung Smart Switch?

Samsung Kies has a lot more to offer than simple data transfer features, including being able to backup and restore data, as well as updating the firmware on your device. However, while that’s the case, Samsung has begun to develop a new and improved version of Samsung Kies which serves a similar purpose. This application is called “Samsung Smart Switch”. The program provides users with a much cleaner user interface as well as making it a lot easier for users to transfer data from their old Samsung device, over to their new Samsung device.

While at first glance both Samsung Kies and Samsung Smart Switch may look like very similar programs, and they are indeed that, they are also very different and provide different sets of tools.

Samsung Smart Switch. Smart Switch has been designed to provide users with the necessary tools to transfer data between Samsung devices without losing any data.

Samsung Kies. Samsung Kies, on the other hand, has been designed in order to provide Samsung users with the tools which allow for them to transfer data between their Samsung device and their computer.

In a way, Samsung Smart Switch can be seen as an upgraded and updated version of Samsung Kies. This is because not only is it a newer program, but it has been developed better and provides a wide variety of features. Let's take Side Sync for example. With the Side Sync feature, you are able to gain full access to your device and have full control through the use of your computer. Additionally, with Smart Switch you are able to deal with any updates and data restorations which are necessary to your device, all from your computer.

Samsung Smart Switch is without a doubt, the way to go. While that’s the case, we are going to continue focusing on Samsung Kies, although it is definitely worth checking Samsung Smart Switch out.

  • It is compatible with over 6000 devices and is available on both Windows and Mac computer systems.
  • You are able to recover data from your device that you once thought was lost.
  • If you are unsure of whether or not this program is for you, a free trial is available.

To Conclude...

While Samsung Kies may be the standard option for data management when it comes to Samsung and Android device, it may not always be the best. Both dr.fone and Samsung Kies consist of a variety of different features and are both works checking out.

Quite often, when using the Samsung Kies program, users are unable to connect to the program. She simply does not see the mobile device. There can be many reasons for this problem to occur. Let's consider what could be the matter.

IN Samsung program Kies, there is a special wizard that can fix the connection problem. This method is suitable if the computer sees the phone, but the program does not.

You need to click "Resolving connection error" and wait a while until the wizard completes its work. But as practice shows, this method rarely works.

Malfunction of USB connector and cable

Your computer or laptop has several USB ports. Due to their frequent use, they can break. Therefore, if Samsung Kies does not see the phone, pay attention to whether the computer itself sees it.

To do this, you need to unplug the cord from the device and connect it again. A window with the connection status should appear in the lower right corner. If this is not the case, then reconnect the phone through a different connector.

Also, the problem may be a cable failure. If you have a spare one, try connecting through it.

Virus check

It is not uncommon for access to various devices to be blocked by malware.
Swipe full check your antivirus program.

To be on the safe side, check your computer with one of the special utilities: , . They can scan your computer without stopping your main antivirus.

Drivers

The connection problem may be caused by old or missing drivers.

To solve the problem, you need to go to "Device Manager", find your phone in the list. Next, right-click on the device and select “Update Drivers.”

If there is no driver, download it from the official website and install it.

Wrong choice of program version

On the website of the manufacturer of the Samsung Kies program, three versions are provided for downloading. Take a close look at the ones for Windows. The brackets indicate which version should be selected for a particular model.

If the choice was made incorrectly, the program must be uninstalled, downloaded and installed the appropriate version.

As a rule, after all the steps taken, the problem disappears and the phone successfully connects to the program.

Updating or flashing a phone is not the easiest task for an untrained user. We will look at this issue from all sides, give advice and all the necessary information on how to use the program Kies Samsung on Android.

Why do you need to flash your phone?

Flashing a phone involves installing into the device a full range of basic programs that are necessary for its operation. This set of programs ensures interaction between the user and the device, offering him access to all its functions. Simply put, firmware is the installation of an operating system. Therefore, if you hear the expression “Reflash the device,” this is no different from the expression “Reinstall the operating system.”

Stock firmware = official, standard

Specific firmware versions are usually tied to specific phone models, however, there are exceptions. We can also conditionally classify any firmware version into two varieties:

  • Official firmware is the firmware provided by the device manufacturer. Its updating and development lies entirely on the shoulders of the official developers. New firmware versions often change the device interface, provide access to new functions, or simply eliminate various errors and shortcomings of previous versions.
  • Unofficial firmware is firmware made by independent developers and device users. It is also called “custom”. Sometimes, such firmware can give your device functions not provided by the developers. But you should always install it at your own peril and risk, since in case unofficial firmware no one can give you guarantees that everything will work well. In addition, you almost always have to update such firmware yourself.

Accordingly, the following main reasons for flashing the phone firmware can be identified:

  1. Improving the stability and performance of the device.
  2. The desire to gain access to applications that function only on new firmware.
  3. Troubleshooting problems and critical errors that could have been made by developers on older versions.
  4. The need to get rid of some functions built into the phone's operating system, such as Google services.

In addition, sometimes phones do not support official update to a new firmware version, even if their hardware allows it. It is in such cases that you may find it useful unofficial versions, which are based on official ones. They help recreate all the features of current android firmware even on older machines.

Installing unofficial firmware is completely legal, because Android is an open source system.

Possible risks

If you want to flash your phone, it's also worth being aware of all the problems you might encounter. Let's take a look at them:

How to avoid problems with firmware:

  1. Carefully study the installation instructions for the firmware version you want to install. Make sure it is compatible with your device.
  2. Fully charge your phone. If you run out of battery while flashing the firmware, it is almost guaranteed to cause serious problems.
  3. When installing the firmware via a USB cable, do not touch or bend it. It is advisable not to touch the phone to prevent the connection from being lost during installation. And also make sure that the file transfer connector on your phone is working well.
  4. If you are not confident in your actions, it is better to entrust the firmware to someone who has experience in such matters.

  8. The automatic downloading of the data required for the update will begin.

    Wait while the necessary data is loaded

    At this point, the device will not appear in the connected list. Don't worry about it.

  9. Next, it will start special application to install firmware called Firmware Upgrade. It will download the firmware to your personal computer.

    Wait until the firmware is completely downloaded

    After which your device will automatically switch to update mode. Android symbols in the form of a green robot will appear on the screen.
    Do not under any circumstances turn off your device at this point, as this may damage it.

  10. When the update download is complete, your phone will restart and the program will notify you that the update was installed successfully. You can close it by pressing the “Confirm” key.

    At this moment you can safely close the program

After installing the update, you can check the functionality of your device, as well as restore the data that you saved in advance. The entire update installation process can take up to half an hour.

Unofficial Android firmware

Above, we figured out how to update or install firmware that is officially supported by your phone. But how can you install the firmware that you want, and not the one that the program offers? To do this, you need to understand exactly how the program finds out whether there is a firmware update for a device connected to a personal computer.

Each phone has a so-called product code (ProductCode), which in encrypted form stores data about the current phone model, as well as the country and cellular operator. It is based on this code, as well as the current firmware version, that the Kies Samsung program offers (or does not offer) certain firmware versions for your device.

In this case, records about the code are saved in the registry of your computer and then taken from there in order to check the emergence of new versions of the firmware of your device. Therefore, all we need is to replace the entries in the registry with the ones we need to install custom firmware.

  1. First, you will need an old version of the program, up to version 1.5.3.10103.100. If you have a newer version installed, you should uninstall it, clear the registry entries and then download old version, For example, .
  2. To prevent the program from updating itself, you need to change the registry entries about its current version. Find out the number of the latest version of the program and replace with it the value that is located along the registry path “LocalVer” = “1.5.3.10103.100”
  3. We launch the program and connect the phone to the personal computer.
  4. We launch the registry and look for the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB.
  5. Open the directories (1, 2, 3, etc.) and look for information about the firmware version in them. It is written as follows: GT-I9000HKDH3G, where the last three characters indicate the country and operator code. Examples of what you need to find: I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3, etc.
  6. Change the keys in this directory to the ones you need. They may be indicated where you download the firmware, or you can select them yourself using the country table.
  7. After which you can launch the program and update. The ProductCode of your device will be changed and the desired firmware will be installed.

Additional features of the Kies program

If you have any problems or need to urgently disconnect your phone from personal computer, you can use the “Emergency Firmware Recovery” function, which is available in the same program.

To do this, follow these steps:

Video: Android update

If you need to restore your phone's warranty after installing unofficial firmware, you can always install the official one through Kies Samsung and the warranty will be restored.

Data synchronization

Perhaps before flashing your phone, you will want to save data from it. With Kies Samsung you can easily do this by transferring music, contacts and everything. necessary files to a new device. To do this you need:

  1. Select the type of files you want to transfer.
  2. Click the “add file” button in accordance with the selected file type. For example, for music this would be the “add music file” button.
  3. When the firmware update is complete, all you have to do is click “Transfer to Device” and all the files you selected will be returned to your phone.

Transferring data to the updated system is not at all difficult

What to do if the program does not see the connected phone

It happens that you installed a program and connected your phone to a personal computer, but it is not recognized by it. In this case, follow these simple steps:

  • Check the USB ports and phone connector. They must function stably.
  • Check your personal computer and phone for viruses.
  • Update your hardware drivers.
  • Restart the program.
  • Unplug and plug back the cable from your phone.
  • Make sure that you are not using a “gray” phone, but one officially purchased in your country.

If the problem has not been resolved and the program still does not detect the phone, despite the fact that it is recognized by the computer, then the problem is in the program itself. In this case, you need to completely reinstall it.

  1. Remove the program from your personal computer by using any service to install and remove programs.
  2. Clean the registry to ensure the removal is as complete as possible. You can use programs like CCleaner.
  3. Restart your computer and install the program again, making sure you are using current version, downloaded from the official Samsung website.
  4. "Run as administrator" installation file may also help solve the problem.

Firmware for a “gray” phone via Kies Samsung

Samsung Kies cannot recognize unofficial hardware that is brought into the country without prior registration. In this case, the firmware will not be possible. Luckily, there is a simple solution to this problem:

  1. On your device, dial *#06#. This way you will know your International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI).
  2. Then, enter this identifier into the request *#272*IMEI# in place of the corresponding characters.
  3. A menu will open where you can replace the country of your device with any other. For Russia, enter SER.
  4. Reboot your device.
  5. Now your phone will be recognized as official, which means it can be easily updated through the Kies Samsung program.

Additional software features

Current versions of the Kies Samsing program also have a number of additional features for user convenience. For example:

  • Supports MAC computers.
  • Allows you to connect your device via Wi-Fi.
  • Automatically notify about new firmware versions for your devices.

We studied the main features of the Kies Samsung program and learned how to update the phone's firmware with its help. We also figured out how to restore the device’s operation if problems arise during the firmware installation.

You can flash gadgets - especially expensive Samsung smartphones and tablets starting with the Galaxy line - in different ways, but it’s much safer to use Kies - a service that will help you flash and update your Android device. This is what we will talk about.

Why and how phones, smartphones and tablets are flashed

Before rushing to the coveted firmware, familiarize yourself with the pros and cons of firmware and device updates.

What you need to know

Reasons for flashing devices:

  • a huge number of pre-installed and standard applications that take away performance resources, free disk space and battery energy;
  • the desire to use the engineering menu and other hidden device capabilities disabled by the manufacturer;
  • the desire to try different official and “custom” firmware of the same platform;
  • the desire to “hide” from tracking by services collecting information about the user;
  • participation in development and testing third party programs for mobile devices.

Disadvantages of self-firmware:

  • loss of warranty;
  • failure of the device (“scorching”), entailing software repair of the gadget in the service center exclusively at your own expense during the warranty period;
  • errors when launching some applications;
  • non-functioning hardware unit or component in the device - for example, inadequate operation of GPS, Bluetooth, etc.;
  • rapid battery discharge (processes responsible for both discharge control on Android level, as well as others that consume more resources than they should).

Rules that will be useful when flashing Android devices

  1. It is best to flash the device from a laptop that has a working and fully charged battery.
  2. The smartphone or tablet being flashed or updated must be fully charged and the battery must not be worn out.
  3. Firmware is most often carried out via cable - take care of its reliability.
  4. The USB ports on the PC must be in good working order.
  5. The computer must have adequate speed and performance; it should not be running dozens of applications. If an upgrade is required, change the processor and RAM modules.
  6. It is not allowed to flash a PC on which viruses and adware are running - at any time they can affect performance, and the firmware process can stall or “crash” in the most interesting place, in addition, viruses can “infect” the device.
  7. It is advisable to flash the device from a PC on which Windows has just been reinstalled and no software has been installed other than the chipset drivers and the flash driver. The fact is that while the Windows registry is not cluttered application programs, operating system works like a perfectly cleaned and oiled mechanism.
  8. Drivers for Samsung devices are required - they are available on the company's website. Without them, firmware from a PC will not work.

How to flash and update Samsung gadgets through the Kies service

Before starting the firmware via Kies, check the following.

  • Antiviruses and Firewall software are disabled, or better yet, uninstalled or not yet installed.
  • The Kies version is the latest.
  • The smartphone or tablet is connected directly to the USB port - and not through USB-Hub devices.
  • You have a high-speed and stable Internet channel - that is, there are no constant disconnects.

It is important to remember the following:

  • when flashing the firmware both through Kies and through the Odin program, your guarantee will survive - the Odin application was originally created by Samsung developers;
  • in case of opening Root access on your gadget and the subsequent Unroot procedure (cancellation of Root privileges), feel free to contact the service center if problems arise;
  • if you first installed a “custom” version of Android through Odin - and then returned the licensed one using Kies, and even waited next update Android and updated the firmware via Kies again, the warranty will remain intact.

Android firmware update via Samsung Kies

This is the action plan.

  1. Connect the gadget to your computer and launch the Kies application. It will inform you that an update has been released and offer to download it.
  2. When you click on the “Update” button, a confirmation message will appear as part of the developers’ public offer.
  3. After confirming the developers' offer, the Kies program will download the firmware.
  4. After the download is completed, the transfer of the new code to the mobile device will begin.
  5. Attention! The first half minute of transferring firmware files to a smartphone or tablet is especially important! If at this stage the cable breaks or falls out of the port, the Kies itself “flies off” or the PC turns off spontaneously - you are guaranteed to receive a “corpse” that can only be restored at a Samsung service center.

The firmware of the mobile device has been successfully completed. Standard and pre-installed Android applications and components that are officially supplied for Samsung smartphones and tablets will be in place. The only thing missing will be Android contacts and bookmarks.

Disaster recovery - how to use the functionality

If when updating Android versions there was a failure, Kies has a remedy for this case disaster recovery firmware.

  1. Launch Kies and go to the Android software update tab on your gadget. All actions are performed on a PC.
  2. Select your device from the list. Kies will prompt you with a recovery code. Attention! If you have not received your emergency recovery code Android firmware- it will be impossible.
  3. Enter it and click on the “Restore” button. Your Samsung device will restart into recovery mode.

What to do if the program did not detect your gadget

Below are the reasons why a connected Samsung smartphone or tablet is not available in the Samsung Kies program.

  • The Samsung USB cable is damaged. Reconnect the broken wires. Replace the cable if the insulation is damaged. Fake cables, made with violations of manufacturing technology, often fail - a sign is the manufacturer's savings on both the conductor (copper) and insulation. If an additional USB extension cable is used (the gadget is located far from the PC), also check its serviceability. The total length of USB cables should not exceed 3 m.
  • The USB port on the computer is faulty. Connect the device to a different port. The cause of a malfunction of the USB port, in turn, may be: contamination of the current-carrying contacts, a violation of their “springiness” (they are bent from constant, frequent use for several years); careless handling of the USB connector itself, frequent short circuits in the power supply (+/-5V) due to violation outer shell cables or insulation of the wires themselves, which caused the USB controller in the PC to fail; a port not connected to the motherboard during the last repair of a laptop or PC system unit. USB software violations can be: damage to Windows system files, PC and Samsung chipset drivers, or their incorrect installation, infection Windows systems viruses, installation of unverified programs, frequent installation of new programs. Check everything!
  • You are using a Samsung gadget that has just been “killed” by an interrupted firmware or failed update Android. Contact Samsung service, Android Shop or a similar service center.
  • Outdated Kies version. Update the application.
  • Not installed USB drivers and Samsung devices. You installed the Kies application prematurely, forgetting about the main thing, without which it is impossible to control your Samsung smartphone or tablet. Remove Kies. First, figure out how the drivers work, then reinstall Kies.
  • The microUSB port on the device itself does not work. Clean it from dust and grains that have fallen into the connector. If this does not help, contact the service center. The worst alternative is to update the Android version without a USB cable - installing a new Android version via a memory card, downloading the update via Bluetooth or local Wi-Fi networks, downloading from the Internet directly, without a PC and the Kies program. But not all of these methods may work - for example, installation from an SD card requires a software console ClockWorkMod Recovery on the device. There's some tinkering to be done.
  • If the drivers are installed, everything is fine and should work, but Kies is being tricky - try the alternative Odin application.
  • Debugging mode is enabled on your smartphone or tablet. Give the command: “Settings - Applications - Development - USB Debugging”, turn off the debugging function. This feature, intended for Android app developers and testers, may prevent Kies from detecting your tablet.
  • You ignored the confirmation request for connecting the gadget to the computer via USB, usually displayed by Android on the device’s display. Please confirm this request.

Other Kies features

The tools of the Kies application are the same as those of similar “combines” from the world’s leading manufacturers (Nokia PC Suite, iTunes and similar) and include the following functions:

  • wireless communication via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: file sharing and Internet access;
  • synchronization of contacts, calendars, notes and messages;
  • access to Samsung media library, synchronization of music and video;
  • Samsung Apps store;
  • backup.

Pairing your device and computer via Wi-Fi

To establish a network connection via Wi-Fi, do the following. The version of Windows 7 is taken as an example.

  1. Open Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Click on "Edit" Extra options public access." Switch the Network Discovery switch to the Enable Network Discovery position.
  3. Return to the "Network and Sharing Center" and go to "Change adapter settings" - this is the network folder Windows connections. Select your Wi-Fi connection and open its properties.
  4. Stop sharing your Internet connection on Wi-Fi.
  5. Launch Windows Firewall (located in Control Panel). Go to Allow programs to run through Windows Firewall.
  6. Allow the launch and activation of wireless mobile devices.
  7. Check the SSDP Discovery and Generic PnP Device Host services - they should be running.
  8. Stop the Internet Connection Sharing service.
  9. Setting up access to the Samsung gadget at the Windows system level is complete. Go to the settings on the gadget itself, select the “Kies over Wi-Fi” component, select your PC and give the command to connect. The PC will request the mobile device from which it will be accessed.

Congratulations! Wi-Fi connection is established. His throughput- 11–150 Mbps - more than enough to share files and synchronize your personal data. Only “home” (wired) Internet can compete with such speed. USB speed is, of course, faster, and it’s easier to use - but “wireless” will free you from the USB cable, and the coverage area will be throughout the entire apartment.

The Kies application requires high performance and speed of the PC - work without freezes is guaranteed only with 4 GB of RAM and a processor with 4 cores, the frequency of which is 2 GHz. This kind of computer is not cheap. The program takes up at least 500 MB of disk space. The screen resolution is at least 1024*768, otherwise the windows will “fall out” off the screen. Windows 7 is recommended - the Kies application will also work with Windows XP, but there may be errors at the level of system DLLs, which will not be present in the XP version.

Samsung Kies also works with iTunes libraries and syncs with Windows Media Player. There is support for file sharing and Internet access via Bluetooth, work with the AlLShare service, DLNA support. If it were not for resource gluttony, it reliably won the hearts of almost all people who prefer Samsung smartphones and tablets.

Samsung Kies, despite the apparent difficulties, is a fairly rich application for Samsung gadgets. It will serve as a worthy replacement for the Odin application - it is actually a kind of Samsung Mobile PC Suite out of the box. Enjoy your work!
