View the largest files in your Google Drive account. Why is this happening

It’s interesting that quite recently “Wheels” just sorted out the advantages and disadvantages of two types of navigation free online and commercial offline. And “here’s to you, grandma, and Rabindranath Tagore” – traditionally online Google Maps We also have an offline mode: now you can download maps via home Wi-Fi without roaming and cellular traffic, and plan a route and drive - without connecting to the mobile Internet!

Until recently, Google maps and Yandex maps belonged to the so-called online navigation that is, they worked exclusively using the mobile Internet, which was necessary to plot the route and guide along it. Accordingly, even the ability to download maps in advance to the gadget’s memory, which appeared a certain time ago in Yandex Maps, still did not make navigation autonomous. Google didn’t even have map downloads...

And now Google maps users have mobile gadgets detailed offline maps, address search, full route guidance, as well as other things became available without an Internet connection helpful information for example, opening hours of organizations, their contacts, etc. To take advantage new feature, you need to enter the name of the area, city or region you are interested in in the search bar on Google maps, then select “Download map”. And in the main menu of maps, a “Downloaded regions” item has appeared, where you can delete regions and add new ones.

Details of how the Wheels offline mode works were found out from Evgeniy Grebennikov, manager of the Google Maps service in Russia:

What does the user get from the appearance of the offline navigation function?

– Actually, everything that is its well-known advantages! The most obvious thing on the surface is that now you can safely use navigation while roaming without worrying about the “golden” megabytes (although to this day there are also local tariffs in which the Internet is secondary and megabytes are expensive). You will also be able to use navigation where the Internet basically does not work and there is no coverage. mobile networks– and there are still plenty of such places in Russia, despite the fact that Mobile Internet We really have one of the fastest, highest quality and cheapest in the world.

If you previously found yourself in an area where there was no cellular network coverage, the navigation simply disappeared. And in an area with slow GPRS or slow and overloaded 3G Internet, the navigation could slow down and freeze, waiting for data to be pumped, forcing you to stop on the side of the road, waiting for it to resume. But now this problem is gone - with the advent of offline maps, you immediately begin to build a route, leave and move without delay using voice prompts, even if the phone is in airplane mode. And once you are in range cellular networks, your route will also be automatically adjusted taking into account traffic jams and other current road factors.

– While Google maps laid out a route and guided along it only when the mobile Internet was connected, manufacturers of offline navigation used this fact as their main advantage. Now you have invaded their holy of holies... What should the market of paid navigation software expect? Will he disappear?

– Well, I won’t give such global forecasts - it will disappear, it won’t disappear... But their life will definitely become much more complicated. Because we offer “in one bottle” the advantages of an always-working offline solution and the obvious advantages of online navigation: live update cards and effective Feedback, which allows you to add information, for example, about traffic jams, predict them in real time, and take them into account when laying out and quickly adjusting the route.

An additional item “Downloaded areas” will appear in the usual side menu of Google maps:

How are maps downloaded? There will be a list of regions, as in paid ones navigation programs?

- The principle is different. What do you see on the screen in this moment, then it will download. You scale the map area as you need and download it. Even a region of Russia, even a separate city, even a separate street.

The boundaries of the downloaded map are determined by the user:

What maps are available for download? Are there any restrictions?

– There are no restrictions, which will especially please tourists - you can download any foreign countries, their regions and cities. All will have voice guidance along the route in Russian.

The only caveat is that while offline route guidance is only available for the “By Car” mode, the walking mode will appear in the future. If you are walking, there are two options: either use the mode with voice prompts for the car, which will lengthen it somewhat (the car cannot drive through many courtyards, pedestrian areas, etc.), or simply use offline maps as regular card- that is, find a shortcut purely visually and follow it, checking the smartphone screen, but without voice prompts.

Will maps be downloaded in internal memory? Can I choose a download location? And is it possible to then transfer cards from internal memory to a flash drive? But what if the device’s internal memory is full or limited?

– While maps will be downloaded automatically to the internal memory, you cannot manually select a storage location or transfer them to a memory card. Yes, it is possible that in some cases downloading maps will fail due to lack of space - the user will have to either clear the memory of the content or delete some previously downloaded maps. But we know about the problem memory full, as well as a small number preset memory for many devices. It will be resolved - just wait a little.

What are the volumes of downloaded maps?

– They are not too large - for example, a map of Moscow and the region takes approximately 150 megabytes. I repeat - if you do not have enough space in the memory of your smartphone or tablet, then you can download maps as needed. For example, if you are planning a trip to a neighboring region, you can temporarily delete the local card.

– The offline navigation function is a huge project. And its implementation will take some time – according to preliminary data, from two to three weeks. Updates to the map service will arrive on your phones and tablets gradually - for some earlier, for others later, but everything will work in the very near future.

–How to find out about a new service for people who don’t follow new products too much mobile software and may not even know that “something is being updated” on the phone?

- This is provided! If the maps were already updated before the offline service appeared, then when you next need to get directions or find something, you will see a large message pop-up on the screen inviting you to get acquainted with new feature and first of all, download a map of your region. Believe me - don't miss it!

The largest files will be shown at the top. You can click the title Quota used(quota used) to instead see the smallest files on top (remember that original files Google Drive is not included in the amount of storage space allocated for you (quota)).

9. Inserting links to documents

You're probably already familiar with inserting links to external sites from your documents, but you can also link various files Google Drive, which is very convenient for searching for articles, etc. Select Insert(Paste), then Link(Link) as usual and enter one or two search terms to find matching documents in your Google Drive account. If you prefer, you can copy the URL from the top of any of your Google Drive files and paste it into the link field.

If, when searching on Google, you see a message with the following text: “We have registered suspicious traffic coming from your network,” then panic begins and the question naturally arises - why did Google ban me? What to do and how to live with it?

“Suspicious traffic” are requests from your device (computer, laptop, tablet, phone) that are generated by programs - mainly viruses, search queries from robots, services, content collectors.

“Coming from your network” - how so? What network? I only have a laptop or phone in my hands now! Here's how: you get access to the Internet not directly, but through a provider to whom you pay for providing this service. The provider redirects your traffic to the Internet itself, where it (traffic) finds your target (website or search engine). It turns out that you are not directly accessing the site, but using intermediary.

Why is this happening?

Google doesn’t like being overloaded with meaningless queries, being parsed, or trying to artificially increase the ranking of sites. Google protects itself from such junk traffic in its direction in order to provide searches to respectable users and maintain the functionality of the system and not “fall”.

Imagine yourself at Google location as a telephone operator. You receive calls with a request to connect the caller with a doctor or the police, a request for a certificate about the weather forecast, etc. And suddenly hooligans start calling you, distracting you from working on more important matters (for example, you need to call a doctor urgently, but the line is busy ). On the control panel, you memorized the hooligans’ phone number and blocked incoming calls from this number for a while until you remove calls from the queue. When your work becomes less stressful and the critical influx of calls subsides, you will unblock the bully's number. It looks exaggerated like this.

How to solve a problem?

If there is suspicious traffic, you may be asked to enter the code from the picture, confirming that you are not a robot, but a normal user. We enter the code (captcha) and continue working with the search engine. If there is no code, then the problems are more serious.

If you are offered to unblock search via SMS, then do not fall for the scammers. Look address bar! Google does not restore for sms access to search!

Steps to restore search functionality

  1. First we do Google recommendations and check your computer (phone, tablet, mobile) for malware. Again, checking the device may not yield any results.
  2. Resetting your modem or router may solve the search blocking problem, but not for long.
  3. If you have a router at home, check whether your wi-fi is protected home network from strangers. Turn off Wi-Fi and try searching again. If there are several devices on your home network (computers, tablets, mobiles), disconnect them all and try to access the search engine through only one of them. Finally try network cable plug it not into the router, but directly into the computer. If there is no result, then you need to contact your provider.
  4. If you have mobile Internet, reset your browser cache. Turn mobile data off and on again. Try reboot mobile device. If there is no result, contact the provider.
  5. Contacting the provider
    1. Purchasing an external IP address from the provider, if it has one.
    2. We go to the provider’s forum and write a complaint. There are a lot of you? Write collectively - they will react faster.
    3. Don't react? If you disconnect, go to another provider.

Providers deceive, save traffic so that others can use VKontakte without restrictions. Such blocking only benefits providers. Have you ever wondered where providers get speeds from and increase them for free on tariffs? At the expense of those who will silently sit and sulk at Google.

Search problems with the provider

Due to the lack of free IPv4 addresses, providers transfer all users behind NAT. That is, if many previously had dedicated IPs, now they are on the same IP. So it turns out that at one address issued by the provider there can be many users, numbering in hundreds and even thousands, read - that same “your network”.

Even if there are no viruses and the network on one IP is clean, but users will immediately decide to use search engine Google or one of its services, then Google will decide that these are robots, although these are ordinary live users, but again with the same IP for all.

What to do in the end when nothing helps? Kick the provider! In 99.99% of cases the provider will answer - We have no problems! Google has problems! Most likely, the provider does not want to deal with this problem, since this is a large financial cost and the share of users who complain specifically about the inaccessibility of search is not so large. Or the provider cannot restore order in its network.

Google search problems

Google knows very well IP providers who care about their users in terms of search. If the provider does not cooperate with the Google search team, then only ordinary people suffer from this.

What to expect from providers?

The introduction of new equipment that supports IPv6 should solve the problem. In the meantime, you pay him money for the services of providing Internet access. Here quality services or not is already a question, and Google does not take any part in this relationship. It turns out that evil Google is lying? The provider won't lie, will he?

What to expect from Google?

When suspicious traffic from your network stops, the search blocking is removed automatically. It is useless to demand that Google unblock your IP - this process is completely automatic and human factor not here.

The search team is aware that many users are displaying “We"re sorry...”, but the change in the algorithm has not yet been announced, since this is a trade secret. Information more than what is described in the Help article will not be provided. I hope that soon progress will still occur in better side and I will try to keep you up to date.

If all else fails

Install Tor Browser. Tor anonymizer will route your network traffic By distributed network, run by volunteers around the world. However, this may slow down site loading speeds.

PS I know the problem of blocking search submissions, since every morning I go to the forum via the mobile Internet.

Google - official application from the same name Google, turning a smartphone into a full-fledged tool for searching information on the Internet. It can be used directly from the home screen, automatically launching the browser when you enter a query. This software also used as a component of other programs - keyboards, virtual assistants using speech recognition.

How it works?

Control your smartphone or tablet using commands. Please note that on English language there are more of them. Russian is partially supported. The application is capable of executing following types tasks:

  • Calendar and reminders - set an alarm, create notes and reminders for every day.
  • Navigation - Get information about your location, traffic jams, get directions using maps, or check the status of your flight at the airport.
  • Useful - quickly find out about the time, exchange rates, get acquainted with the meaning of the event, word, phenomenon that interests you.
  • Communication - open social media and messages by setting the timer for the desired time.
  • Additional features - turn on flashlight, player, wireless network, saying the right words into the device's speaker.

The application has two search modes, as well as its own widget displayed on the display. Take a look at the main features:

  1. Text input. There is a small window in front of you - write a request into it, after which the program will open a page with the results in the main browser or directly in its interface.
  2. Voice input. By clicking on the microphone icon, you can activate the text printing mode using a conversation. This feature can be automatically enabled by saying “Ok Google.”

conclusions

The Google application is one of the options for searching information on the Internet. It is simple, stable and takes up little memory. It can be used through a headset. A big plus is compatibility with most modern browsers.
