1. Main program window

To open a video for editing, just select the menu "File" -> "Open":

2. Trim video in Avidemux

Most often, Avidemux is used to trim videos, here it is quite convenient and at the same time simple to do. Let's say you want to remove from a video specific area. Move the slider to the beginning of this section, then press the button labeled A:

A rectangle will appear on the playback bar, marking the selection area. Next, move the slider to the end of the section and press the button labeled B:

This will place a marker at the end of the selection and give you a section of the recording marked for deletion.

  • Divx- slow and has few settings;
  • Xvid- gives good quality and has many settings;
  • Lavcodec- high speed and good quality;
  • Mjpeg- good quality;
  • Mpeg- good quality, works with most files;
  • H263- works for most video files;
  • Huffyuv- good quality, not supported everywhere;
  • VCD/DVD/SVCD- good quality, but slow;
  • XVCD- fast.

As for the choice, everything is the same as with the container. But in most cases, it is enough to choose something common, for example, Mpeg or Xvid. Audio codecs supported here are AAC, MP2, MP3. There is a button under each item "Configure", with which you can configure encoding parameters. But usually everything will work with the default settings. Changing the format

Let's start getting acquainted with the program with the most common task that arises in amateur video processing - changing the video file format. Avidemux supports two format changing modes: with and without transcoding. Let's start with the second mode, as it is obviously simpler. Load the original video by selecting File/Open from the menu.

Select the desired output file format. We leave all other settings unchanged.

Select File/Save As. Amazing! Changing the format in this mode occurs almost instantly. Let's complicate the program's task. Now we change the container format while simultaneously transcoding the video stream. Select the required video format. Save the file. Yes, now our editor is clearly having a harder time. Saving in this mode takes significantly longer.

But in the end, the program successfully copes with this test.

Cut and paste

Go ahead. Let's try to cut out a small video fragment and paste it into the selected location of the original video. To do this, the navigation panel has buttons for setting labels A and B. Set the slider to the beginning of the cut fragment and press button A. Then to its end and press B. The selected fragment is indicated by a blue rectangle. recoding, and in our program recoding occurs only when saving the file. We have already learned how to recode. We select the desired format, save, wait for a while and see that our logo has been successfully combined with the video.

Audio filters are used in a similar way. True, their selection in Avidemux is much more modest, which is quite logical if you think about it. Changing the audio sequence

If we're already talking about sound, we'll also look at another common task in amateur video processing - changing the audio track. Go to the Audio / Select Track menu, uncheck the box and turn off the existing sound accompaniment and in the next line select Add audio track.

Next we find a suitable disk musical composition, we save our video with recoding (only this time the audio will be recoded, not the video, as in the example with the filter). The old sound series disappeared, a new one appeared. Everything is working.

Settings

There are relatively few of them, because the program is designed for non-professional users who do not particularly like to delve into sophisticated options. It only makes sense to note the possibility of having it installed by default hardware acceleration. The creators of the program honestly warn in the help that on some platforms this setting may cause the program to freeze when actively manipulating the video.
