Installation, configuration, Russification of Windows using a small program Windows Firewall Control

The Windows Firewall (aka firewall) is responsible for the security of the operating system and protects it from external malicious attacks. For effective protection Each user of his computer should know how to work with a firewall and what alternatives can be used.

Do you need a Windows 10 firewall?

Of course it is needed. Here simplest example: in the latest Windows versions(starting from 7) joint management of devices in one became available local network. It is thanks to this that in offices several computers can have access to the same printer or any other device. When you disconnect your PC from the network, you don’t even think about the danger that an “unsafe disconnection” might pose. The fact is that attackers can easily connect to a computer in order to realize their dirty intentions. It is worth mentioning that they cannot, but they could. They could if the firewall was not built into the system. The firewall does not allow “dangerous” incoming and outgoing traffic to pass through and blocks suspicious activity, which helps keep you and your device safe.

Why does it block apps?

The firewall blocks programs because it already has a built-in “moral code” - a set of rules, the violation of which prevents a data packet from being downloaded to the computer. These rules can be changed at your discretion. If you want, block all connections to your device, if you want, block access to the Internet for some specific program if it causes mistrust. Blocking various resources helps make your online experience safer.

How secure is the Windows 10 firewall?

The built-in firewall performs the same functions as downloadable antiviruses. Unlike them, it sends notifications much less frequently, has no advertising and does not require paid activation. The firewall is running in background continuously and cannot turn off without your command. Therefore, you can rely on it without resorting to additional software. If an application needs access to certain parameters your computer, a request will come from the firewall, which you will have to confirm.

The firewall requests user confirmation to continue running the program

How to set up a firewall

The firewall can be configured in several ways.

How to open a port in Windows 10 Firewall

  1. Go to the Start menu, there we will need the Control Panel.

    Open the Control Panel

  2. Click on “System and Security” and click on “Firewall”.

    Open Windows Firewall

  3. In the firewall menu we find Advanced options.

    Select Additional options

  4. Select the Rule for incoming connection and add the necessary ports.

Create a new rule for incoming connections

  5. Click “Next” and enter SQL Server in the “Type” line.

    Selecting the rule type

  6. We indicate TCP port and the ports we need.

We indicate necessary information. In our case it will be port 433

  7. Choose required action. For us it will be “Allow connection”.

    Select “Allow connection”

  8. In the “Name” line, enter our port number.

To complete the setup, call our port by its number

How to block an application/game in a firewall

To block an application in the Windows Firewall or, in other words, prevent it from accessing the Internet, you must follow these steps:

  1. Select the “Advanced Settings” section in the firewall menu.
  2. Click on “Outgoing Connection Rules” and click “Create Rule”

Create a new rule for the application

  3. Next, select the rule type “For program”.

Since we need to exclude the program, we select the appropriate rule type

  4. Next, the system prompts you to select the program path. Click the “Browse” button and find required file programs.

Leave all the boxes in place

  5. And at the end, we designate the name of the blocked program in a convenient way and click “Finish”. From this moment on, Internet access for the application will be blocked.

Firewall Update

Updating a firewall is a controversial and rather negative thing. The point is that there are no important functions it doesn’t carry much, but it often takes a considerable amount of time. Therefore, some people prefer to disable firewall auto-update.

Firewall control application is one of support programs and is responsible for data security and protects against leakage of this data to the network. The program controls the operation of ports and allows you to choose under what conditions applications will connect to the network.

The program interface is simple and concise

On all computers with the Windows operating system, a special defender - a firewall - is installed and enabled by default. Its main task is to restrict access to the Internet suspicious applications and services. That is, if the firewall considers that any action of a program or service may lead to malware being downloaded to the computer, which will harm the system, it will automatically disable Internet access to the suspected application.

Is it necessary to turn on the firewall?

The firewall is enabled by default, but you can disable it at any time. But you shouldn’t do this just like that, since the computer’s protection will noticeably decrease, and the chance that a virus will get onto the computer will increase. Therefore, it is better not to disable the firewall unless it begins to work incorrectly, and this can be expressed in the following: the firewall will begin to block Internet access to applications that do not deserve it, mistakenly considering them dangerous.

This can happen due to a conflict between the built-in and third-party firewall installed with the antivirus, and also due to the fact that the blocked program is unofficial, that is, it is pirated copy. But this problem can also be solved without disabling the firewall, but simply by adding the blocked application to the exclusion list; how to do this will be described below in the article.

Is the built-in Windows application reliable?

The official Microsoft firewall is designed to provide minimal system protection. Of course, since Microsoft specializes in more than just security, third-party firewalls will do the job a little better. But if there are no other firewalls installed on your computer, then you should not disable the official one. About which firewalls are best to use for full protection systems, will be discussed in one of the following paragraphs of the article.

Setting up a firewall in Windows 10

If you decide to use standard firewall Windows, then it’s worth knowing what settings you can change and how you can do it. But first, let's figure out how to enable and disable the firewall.

Activation and deactivation

How to open a port

If you use a router and connect it to your computer with a LAN cable, you may encounter the problem that the Internet will not be transmitted over the cable. This happens because the port to which the router is connected is blocked by the Windows Firewall. To get rid of this error, you need to unblock the required port:

  1. Using search bar Windows, open your computer control panel.
  2. Go to the System and Security section.
  3. Open the Windows Firewall tab.
  4. Open Extra options firewall management.
  5. In the list on the left side of the window that opens, select “Rules for incoming connections.”
  6. Let's start creating a new rule.
  7. Select the rule type “For port” and move on.
  8. Select the protocol type. You can find it in the router settings, on its box and the official website.
  9. Select the option “All local ports"to open all ports at once, or select only one and enter its number.
  10. Now you need to select an action for the ports. Check the “Allow connection” option and move on to the next step.
  11. At this step, you need to select the profiles for which this resolution will be carried out.
  12. All that remains is to name the rule you created and enter its description, but this is not necessary. This needs to be done so that in the future it is easy to find this rule and change it if necessary.
  13. Now, in the left part of the window, select the “Rules for outgoing connection” item, and then perform the above steps 6–12.

Add to exclusion list

If your firewall mistakenly blocks applications that you know won't harm your computer, you should add them to the exceptions list. Applications on the exclusion list are not affected by the firewall.

  1. Launch Control Panel.
  2. IN general list settings, select the “Firewall” section.
  3. Click on the “Allow interaction with the application...” button located on the left side of the window.
  4. Click the "Change Settings" button to confirm that you have administrator rights.
  5. Find in the general list an application whose Internet access was mistakenly restricted. Mark it with a checkmark. You can set individual parameters for private and public use of this application.
  6. If not on this list desired application, then click the “Allow another application” button and specify the path to the program that you want to add to the exceptions.

How to block an application's Internet access

IN previous paragraph We looked at how to add an application to the exclusion list, but sometimes the opposite situation may arise when it is necessary to block Internet access specific application, while not disconnecting from the network. You can do this as follows:

How to update

To provide maximum protection computer, you must have latest version firewall. But you won’t be able to update it separately from the operating system, since all the necessary innovations are automatically added to the firewall along with Windows updates. That is, you do not need to update the firewall manually.

Windows Firewall Control Overview

Firewall Control- special third party program from Microsoft, which does not give any additional features to protect your system, but allow you to do more detailed settings already installed Windows Firewall.

  1. You can download the program for Windows 10 from this site - https://www.comss.ru/page.php?id=765.
  2. In the main menu of the program, you can choose one of four operating modes: with high filtering, all incoming and outgoing Internet connections will be blocked, even if they do not violate any rules; with medium filtering, which is recommended, only those outgoing connections that violate the rules will be blocked, installed by firewall; with low filtering, outgoing connections that fall under one of the blocking conditions are blocked. The most recent "No Filtering" mode disables the firewall completely.
  3. In the lower right corner of the program there are icons that give access to blocking and unlocking applications. For example, if you want to block Internet access for an application, then you can click on the folder icon with a cross and specify the path to the file that is responsible for launching the desired application.
  4. In the "Rule Management" section you can look detailed information about all applications and services, find out which of them are blocked, what type of connection is blocked for them: outgoing or incoming. In the same section, you can change the blocking settings for each application.
  5. In the special block “Create a new rule” you can begin to create a new rule in detail, if necessary. For example, this may be useful for opening a port.
  6. In the Notifications section, you can enable or disable the firewall's ability to send you service messages.

Among operating room users Windows systems There has long been an opinion that built into the system Windows firewall does not fully protect it from external threats. This is actually not true.

The point is that you just have to do it right configure Windows Firewall. This is the whole problem and the source of discrediting the defender - to a simple user this is very difficult to do due to the lack of any logic in the location of the configuration tools. They are scattered almost throughout the entire system.

Tiny (323 kb.), free Windows program Firewall Control will collect all the settings and parameters of the Windows firewall into a bunch, allowing you to quickly allow or deny programs access to the Internet in just a couple of clicks, configure rules, view currently active network connections, import or export policies, and effectively manage various parameters using the context menu.

Windows Firewall Control adds absolutely nothing to the system or changes it, but only displays all the built-in functions of the Windows firewall in one window for ease of use.

Installation and Russification of Windows Firewall Control.
Let's move on to installation and Russification. We start the installation by clicking on the first downloaded file (wfc4 setup.exe).

The first checkbox is shortcuts in the panel quick launch and on the desktop. The second is to run the Windows Firewall Control program with the system. The third is to allow Windows Firewall to be managed. I recommend leaving the second and third ones.

The entire program is installed. Now you need to turn it off by right-clicking on the tray shortcut to “Exit”...

Copy the second downloaded file, which is in the archive (language-wfc Ru.Ing), go to the folder where you installed the program (Local disk (C:)-Program Files.....) and paste it there...

Close all folders and restart operating system. We get a Russified program in the tray...

Now I advise you to go directly to the “Control Panel”...

...and configure the Windows Firewall...

...and these icons (when you hover over them, a hint will appear)...

I liked it and caring Windows removal Firewall Control...

Bottom line: This little program helps you configure the Windows Firewall in just a few clicks and turns it into a high-quality system protector against external threats.
PS.
Activation Windows programs Firewall Control only includes a notification and locking of settings with a password (there is a keygen medicine in the archive), and the program itself is absolutely free.
If you activate it with a keygen, you will have full functionality.

Good day to everyone, dear friends, acquaintances, readers, admirers and others.

It’s been a while since we wrote anything about firewalls, although the topic is useful and necessary in every possible way. Previously we told you how simple solutions like, and about combines by type or mid-sized ones (the latter, by the way, ceased to exist due to the sale of technology).

Today we will talk about good and completely free solution, the name of which is indicated, in fact, in the title. It's not so much of course 100 % firewall is a solution that allows you to quickly and clearly manage application access to the Internet, as well as manage incoming and outgoing connections and their monitoring. But the thing is extremely good, despite its simplicity, and not very resource-intensive.

Let's get started.

Windows 10 Firewall Control - installation, configuration and use

The program is completely free, but without support for the Russian language (although there are probably Russifiers somewhere on the Internet). You can download this miracle of a programmer's thought, say, .

The installation is extremely simple and I will not dwell on it. Immediately after installation, a corresponding icon will appear in the tray and you will receive notifications about the need to take this or that action on the program that is knocking on the Internet.

This notification will appear every time until you configure rules for all those programs that are already installed and periodically for those that have been installed recently. Before we continue, go to the folder where you installed the program (usually " C:\Program Files\Windows10FirewallControl" or " C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows10FirewallControl") and delete the file from there appdetect.wav:

Do you want to know and be able to do more yourself?

We offer you training in the following areas: computers, programs, administration, servers, networks, website building, SEO and more. Find out the details now!

This will remove the annoying sound that plays from the speakers every time the program pops up with the above notification window. It can also be turned off in the settings, but by the time it gets to them, the squealing from the speakers will have time to get boring.

But let's go back to the notification and see what's what. We will be primarily interested in the two subsections on the right (which Quick Apply And Apply permissions):

  • Quick Apply- quick but one-time action:
    • EnableAll- allow all connections;
    • DisableAll- prohibit all connections;
    • IncomingOnly- incoming only;
    • OutgoingOnly- outgoing only.

The > arrows allow you to select an alternative rule.

  • Apply permissions- sets the rule:
    • Zone- has the same subparagraphs as above ( DisableAll, EnableAll etc.), select the required one;
    • Apply- sets a rule in accordance with the item selected above, i.e. either prohibits everything, or allows, etc.;
    • Apply once- sets the rule one-time, i.e. for the current launch of applications.

Thus, you need to set permanent or temporary rules for all applications that you trust or do not trust. I recommend running for a while everything that works with the Internet (all sorts of games, browsers, clients, etc.).

Basically, in order not to suffer from constant notifications, I recommend setting standing rules. The creation of rules itself is not as complicated as it might seem and you just need to think with your head, because it is logical that the browser needs access in all directions, and some unknown virus.exe he didn't give up.

By right-clicking in the tray (where the clock is) on the program icon (there is above), you can call up the settings by clicking on the " Settings".

On the first tab ( Programs) you can see existing rules for applications, as well as how many connections were blocked (red) or allowed (green). By right button mouse, you can edit the rule ( Edit), delete ( Delete) and create a new one ( New).

On the tab Events you can see in the form of events (meaning based on the rules, i.e. allowed or prohibited by you), what went where, when and how it was knocked, what protocols were used and other details. By right mouse button you can call WhoisLookUp and see which country it belongs to IP and so on.

Tab Connections shows not events, but current connections. What, where, on what ports, when the connection was created, etc. Very visual and somewhat similar to .

Well, the tab Settings is directly responsible for the settings. Here you can turn off the sound (last checkbox Disable), logs (first checkbox Disable), remove the pop-up window with logs (check " Do not whow Log Balloon)":

Disable pop-ups where you set rules (checkbox Disable PopUp on new detected application), set a password to open settings ( Enable Password) and all that stuff, like unloading settings ( Export) or downloading them ( Import).

In particular, let’s say, you can reduce the load on (why, though, it’s not very clear, since resources are consumed quite moderately), by checking “ Low HDD activity".

That's all, perhaps, and we can move on to the afterword.

Afterword

What can I say, the instrument is extremely successful, quite light and not difficult to operate. This solution is especially suitable for those who have a firewall or who simply do not want to install something cumbersome like Comodo and will be limited to the firewall built into the system + the above program.

As always, if you have any questions, thoughts, additions, etc., please feel free to comment on this post.
