Technical characteristics of the ASUS Zenfone G552KL smartphone. Limitless memory – limitless possibilities

New for spring 2018, Asus ZenFone Live L1 G552KL LTE Dual SIM black became the brand’s first smartphone that was produced using Android program Go. Light version of OS Android Oreo and the built-in services in it are specially optimized for budget stuffing.

Big screen without compromise

If most manufacturers of budget models try to save on screen dimensions, Asus company In its model, ZenFone Live L1 decided not to limit the user’s ease of application management. The smartphone is equipped with a large 5.5-inch screen with HD+ resolution, which provides excellent color rendition and high contrast even at wide viewing angles. ZenFone Live L1 will become a real pocket cinema for you!

Limitless memory – limitless possibilities

The heart of the smartphone is the popular Snapdragon 425 chipset with 4 cores, clock frequency 1.4 GHz and volume random access memory in 1 GB. By optimizing software and hardware, even heavy-duty applications run on the phone without lags or freezes.

A separate feature of the chipset is that it provides for the layout of the gadget with slots for the largest memory cards. Yes, there is only 16 GB of built-in memory, but internal storage can it be expanded to... 128? 256? No - for as much as 2 TB! So in one smartphone you can store all the seasons of your favorite TV series and still have space left.

When every frame matters

The ZenFone Live L1 Android smartphone has some pretty impressive cameras for its price range. The main 8 MP photo module produces decent images even in low light, and also supports shooting modes such as HDR, Time lapse, Slow-Mo and panorama.

Smart front-camera 5 MP is used for face unlocking, and also contains various beauty filters to create the most spectacular selfies.

Not budget autonomy at all

Optimization in the smartphone clearly benefited the battery. With a capacity of only 3000 mAh, Asus ZenFone Live L1 G552KL LTE Dual sim black is capable of working for more than 1000 hours in standby mode. The smartphone will be appreciated by those who like to plunge headlong into the Internet space - in Wi-Fi mode the gadget works up to 18 hours. And avid music lovers will be able to listen to their favorite tracks for 96 hours without interruption!

When computer and component manufacturers entered the smartphone market, the task seemed quite simple. Here's yours element base and connections with suppliers, here are sales channels, here is experience in creating conveyor production of any caliber. Make it and sell it.

But in reality, smartphones are more than just correct set components. And the vast experience in PC production turned out to be, let’s say, not entirely useful. It took time before it was possible to catch up with the original “telephone” companies and those who started making big bucks earlier.

ASUS soberly assessed the costs, and for several years became Intel's de facto development laboratory mobile devices. And, I must say, we have achieved considerable success. The latest creation of this collaboration, ASUS ZenFone 2 Deluxe, turned out to be very cool for its time, and even now I am.

But about a year ago, Intel decided to slow down work on processors for smartphones (which is very strange, given the availability of a fully-ready Atom with very serious characteristics), and ASUS moved to the Qualcomm platform. The move began at the beginning of 2016, and the announcement of the ZenFone 3 line became a kind of final chord.

It should be noted that there are quite a few ZenFone 3s, and they are very different from each other. For example, ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 3 Deluxe are simply different devices in all respects, and they cost very differently. This time we will talk about ZenFone 3 ZE552KL – a strong mid-ranger. But, I hope, in a month they will get around to Deluxe.

That a good average product is in great demand in our difficult times, although review authors write about them relatively rarely. You want technical miracles, but here everything is quite simple and predictable. However, the ZenFone 3 is definitely worth a review because it doesn't look budget-friendly and has a number of features typically reserved for the high-end segment.

I think it’s worth starting with the exterior. ZenFone 3 ZE552KL lives in glass case with Gorilla Glass 4 coating. The glass is slightly rounded at the edges, which, on the one hand, makes the device more slippery, and on the other, improves the tactile sensations of the palm (however, it’s a cool synonym for the raised turn “does it fit well in the hand?”). The frame of the device is aluminum, which gives the design strength and beauty. The smartphone has the most “premium” look, but the glass, as you would expect, collects fingerprints very well, and literally begs to be purchased for a solid leather back.

Screen diagonal 5.5 inches, Full resolution HD. The IPS matrix is as good as a matrix of this type can be. Of course, I would like to add the old joke “Your screen is good, ZenFone 3, but not Super AMOLED! Alas, there were only enough Amols for the Deluxe version. No, the screen is good. Bright, rich colors, viewing angles are fine. And even the lighting is perfectly uniform. But on dark background It is noticeable that the black color is still not perfect, and in the dark the screen is perceived by the eyes more harshly than AMOLED. Control buttons are located on bottom panel and do not take up screen space.

ZenFone 3 ZE552KL runs on SoC Snapdragon 625 with 8 cores and maximum frequency 2 GHz. The chipset is not flagship, but in combination with 4 gigabytes of RAM and a non-exorbitant screen resolution, it copes with its duties perfectly. The device turned out to be very fast. Both launching applications and switching between them occurs instantly. Network interfaces correspond: there is 802.11ac (up to 433 Mbit/s) and LTE Advanced with speeds up to 150 Mbit/s (up to 300 Mbit/s in the Asian version).

Very important point– ZenFone 3 can work with a second SIM card in 3G mode, which makes possible use Moscow Tele2 as a second operator (in the capital, Tele2 does not support 2G, which is why it is useless to install it as a second SIM card in most devices; it will not even register on the network). Also, 3G on the second SIM card will allow you to enjoy HD Voice, improved voice transmission.

Instead of a second SIM card, you can install a flash drive of any existing size (they promise to work with at least 2 terabytes, but I haven’t come across anything like that), but the onboard memory capacity is 64 GB, which is enough for the vast majority of users. Personally, I fit into it with a reserve, and only a solid video library requires more.

According to benchmarks, of course, the device is inferior to models based on top-end Exynos and Snapdragon. But you will only notice this... quite rightly, in the benchmarks themselves, because applications and games are completely satisfied with the Snapdragon 625. Still, they are made for the masses, and most people use smartphones that are infinitely far from the performance of ZenFone 3. A nice bonus of the 625 is that it is made using 14-nanometer technology and hardly heats up under load. So no burns on your fingers while playing.

The speaker of the smartphone is loud, but with a fairly narrow frequency range. I still wouldn't listen to music on it. For voice communication and dubbing games is fine; for movies it’s better to wear headphones too. The sound in them will please you.

The ZenFone 3's description talks a lot about its photographic capabilities. There is also a 16-megapixel Sony module IMX298, and 4-axis optical stabilization, and dual autofocus (laser plus phase detection), and a color correction sensor... The module itself is really not bad, but it is still not intended for flagship cameras. Yes, during the day the camera takes pictures quickly and well. But as soon as dusk deepens, even high values ISO does not eliminate shake in pictures. The pictures are, on average, better than in similarly priced devices, but you still shouldn’t fall for marketing texts and expect too much from the camera. Last year's Samsung flagships and LG at the same price shoot better.

When shooting in the evening, the camera cranks the ISO up to 2900, but this is not always enough.

There are no questions about daytime photographs - they convey the atmosphere accurately and in detail.

The front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and nothing else stands out.

The fingerprint scanner works perfectly and is located on the rear panel as conveniently as possible. It is not combined with the power button, as is often done on other smartphones. So the usual set of buttons - power plus volume - lives on the right side.

The battery capacity of this model is 3000 mAh, which, in combination with a modern, but not the fastest processor and a reasonable screen resolution, provides a guaranteed working day from a full charge. By the evening I usually had about 40% of the battery left, and this was with a constantly connected smartwatch.

The only thing I can’t understand is why in this ZenFone versions 3 no NFC support. The benefits of such a module are increasing every year, from charging a travel card to pairing with all sorts of devices, and it seems to cost little money. ZenFone 2 had a module that was not compatible with the Troika card, but otherwise it worked well. I don’t know why they didn’t install it in ZenFone 3. Maybe they forgot?

Total

During the time when ASUS worked with Intel, it had the opportunity to offer " more smartphone for less money." That is, in the same price category more memory, more megapixels, better screen etc.

The accumulated experience now allows us to make completely uncompromising smartphones, however, the price is already, as they say, “in the market.”

Smartphone supports fast charging, but the kit contains the usual Charger. But we didn’t forget about the headphones.

An official copy of ASUS ZenFone 3 ZE552KL will cost 27,990 rubles, and the “gray” one costs from 22 thousand. The price is reasonable, but this price range there are many comparable offers - both modern middling ones and last year’s flagships. The ZenFone 3 ZE552KL can counter this diversity with its solid exterior (they want taste and color, as they say), work with a second SIM card in 3G mode and 64 GB of on-board flash memory.

For ASUS comparisons ZenFone 3 next to Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

Is this enough for the choice to fall on the ASUS product? Don't know. I'm not selling it to you, I'm just telling you. But it is better to enter into battle on equal terms with the enemy than with weapons made of clay and sticks. IN in this case there are no reasons for leniency.

First of all, the body size and weight have been reduced. Zenfone 3 has the following parameters: 152.6 × 77.4 × 7.7 mm and 155 grams. Thus, the thickness has decreased by a noticeable 30%. In addition, the smartphone’s case materials have been updated – now it uses not plastic, but metal (in the frame) and glass (Gorilla Glass 3 on both the screen and the back). At the same time, the front glass has a so-called 2.5D format, when it is smoothly rounded at the edges. As a result, the device looks noticeably more expensive. By the way, Zenfone 3 fits well in the hand. We can also mention a slightly protruding camera, but less than that of the same iPhone 6s.

Screen

Zenfone 3 has a 5.5-inch IPS display with Full HD resolution(1920x1080). This gives excellent image clarity, with a pixel density of 401 per inch, comparable to . In addition to clarity, the display boasts high brightness, the manufacturer promises a figure of 600 nits. This solves one of the problems of previous generations - a dim screen.

Camera

Zenfone 3 has 16 and 8 MP cameras, a noticeable improvement. In addition, the new product has added additional features for photography: laser/phase focusing and a four-axis system optical stabilization. According to the manufacturer, these systems allow you to focus on the subject in a maximum of 0.03 seconds and take clear pictures (and videos) even in motion. The main camera has a wide aperture – f/2.0. The lens is also covered with sapphire crystal, this should protect it from scratches and damage to pictures.

The main camera is capable of shooting video in 4K.

Communications

The Zenfone 3 communications suite is standard for a modern smartphone:

  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band and high-speed
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • IR port
  • USB Type C
  • support for two SIM cards (Nano and Micro).

The presence of an infrared port is somewhat surprising, but the USB Type C connector has already become common for new products in 2016.

Battery

Like most modern models, Zenfone 3 is equipped with a non-removable battery, its capacity is 3000 mAh. This meaning in itself does not mean high autonomy, but with the transition from Atom chipsets to Qualcomm, most likely, the situation will change, and the new product will finally surpass its predecessors, which did not shine in this parameter.

Performance

The smartphone uses a 64-bit eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 with a frequency of 2.0 GHz. As a result, although the Zenfone 3 doesn't quite have the stars, it offers sufficient performance for most smartphone tasks. Just keep in mind that the size of RAM depends on the amount of internal memory: with 32 GB you get 3 GB of RAM, with 64 GB - 4 GB, respectively.

If this performance is not enough for you, then consider the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe model, its performance will be higher.

Memory

Zenfone 3 received 32 or 64 GB permanent memory, as well as the ability to increase it using a memory card up to 256 GB. But keep in mind that the memory card slot is combined with the SIM card tray, so you will have to choose between them.

This smartphone is absolutely replete with differences compared to its predecessors; truly large-scale work has been done, many elements have been revised. It seems that manufacturers listened to customers and made a much more functional and convenient smartphone.

ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE552KL - the review should start with a short introduction about the gadget line, it’s easy to get lost in it. Zenfone and Zenfone 2 were very popular due to their good hardware and were the most budget flagships. The main part is that this played into the hands of the manufacturers, but then, after the expected success, a bunch of Zenfone 4, 5, 6 appeared. Only this is no longer the designation of the device model, but its diagonal. In fact, the next one in the line is Zenfone 3 ZE552KL.

Design

ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE552KL smartphone - it’s a pleasure to review the design, since the massive hate from consumers of the gadget brought a certain result and we saw positive changes in terms of ergonomics, it became much more compact.

The appearance is attractive ASUS phone Zenfone 3 ZE552KL 64 gb has polished, rounded edges, and the pattern plays under the rays of the sun. Even the glass on the top edge is rounded and this has a very pleasant effect on the look and feel. If you choose between color schemes, then it is better to give preference to light options, they are less branded.

The review of the ASUS Zenfone smartphone smoothly moved on to the overall dimensions and design characteristics. As the gadget’s diagonal became popular, it became 5.5”. The dimensions themselves have become significantly smaller, so the phone is 40% thinner. At the same time, it is only 10% lighter. The width and height are still noticeably large.

In ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE552KL, the camera protrudes slightly by 1.5mm, which results in an uneven rear edge. This is a drawback for some, while others have learned to use it to make it easier to take their smartphone from the table.

At the bottom, next to the control keys, there is no longer a black insert, as in other models. The power button has been redesigned and has been moved from the top to the right and has become more pliable. On the right is the volume control; previously it was also very tight, but now it is easy to press.

WITH reverse side There is an elongated panel - this is a fingerprint scanner. It works correctly and without failures, but the activation speed of the smartphone is significantly lower than that of competitors.

Display

It is necessary to conduct a full analysis of the ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE552KL in comparison with its predecessors, but here a colossal step forward has been taken. Previously, the contrast and brightness made it possible to comfortably use the device only at home, but now the brightness is more than enough even for a sunny day, reaching 600 nits.

Many agree that today the ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE552KL 64 GB has one of the best IPS matrix characteristics with Full HD in the world. The contrast is approaching the reference value. The colors are bright enough without being overly vibrant. Viewing angles are ideal; even at the shallowest angles, colors are clearly conveyed. Thanks to the rounded edges, it seems that the screen occupies the entire surface of the case, although in reality only 77.3% of the entire area. The gamma is quite standard, with dark tones slightly brightened and light colors slightly cooler.

When reviewing the ASUS Zenfone 3 display, it should be noted that Gorilla Glass 2.5D is used. There is also an oleophobic coating and it is also of high quality; it does not get dirty from fingerprints and other touches.

Camera

The main camera is 16 megapixels, built on a Sony IMX298 matrix, although if you use benchmark services, this value does not reach the specified value and shows at 12.2 megapixels. The camera aperture is f/2.0. Sapphire glass is used to protect the lens; it does not deteriorate if you place the smartphone on the back side.

Auto focusing achieves fabulous performance; according to manufacturer measurements, it is about 0.03 seconds. Enough important function when removing moving parts. There is a function for measuring the distance to the subject being photographed.

The image stabilization is amazing, using a 4-axis optical stabilizer to take photos, which allows you to increase the shutter speed by 4 times. When recording video, electronic 3-axis stabilization comes into force and compensates for all kinds of shaking with a bang. The smartphone can shoot in 4K resolution. To find out what this format looks like, we recommend watching a video review of the ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE552KL.

The front camera is no less good by its standards, it has 8 megapixels and the “Portrait Enhancement” function is automatically triggered, where you can subsequently correct the picture.

Performance

Built into the smartphone Snapdragon processor 625 with 8 cores, the function of reduced power consumption is also noticeable. Graphics are transmitted through the built-in Adreno 506. RAM is 4 GB, and the internal memory is 64 GB, supports a memory card up to 256 GB.

Besides standardized tests ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE552KL took into account reviews from owners who agree that the smartphone is quite fast, copes well with loading programs and remains responsive. Sensitivity and performance are completely satisfactory, no shortcomings were noticed, it deserves only praise. With a very small battery capacity of 3000 mAh, it can work for 15 hours at maximum load. We saved on capacity by reducing energy consumption.

Although price category mid-range devices, it is quite capable of competing with more expensive models famous manufacturers. The developer managed to combine modern power With Chinese prices and it turned out great smartphone ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE552KL.
