Feature management Mod Recovery with the ability to create an image of the entire system and restore it from Recovery.

Possibilities:
- Recover firmware;
- Creating and restoring backup;
- Firmware download;
- Firmware from memory card;
- Formatting and partitioning the memory card into sections.

1. Upload it yourself ROM Manager.
2. Open it, the most top point there will be Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Click it and a phone model confirmation menu will appear. Click on your model, the recovery is downloaded and installed, which the program will inform you about.
IMPORTANT!!! During this procedure, the program deposits a larva in the root of the phone’s internal flash drive in the form of an update.zip file, which contains Clockwork. Don't delete it!
3. In this program, we are mainly interested in the Backup & Restore item, which has 2 subitems: Manage & Restore Backups and Backup current ROM.
4. If we want to create a backup copy of the system, go to the Backup Current ROM item. We will be asked to change our name created file(very convenient if there are a lot of backups), click Yes and the phone reboots into recovery and the process of creating a backup begins. The process takes 5-10 minutes, after which the phone reboots into normal mode.
5. If we want to restore and our phone turns on, then select the Manage & Restore Backups item, we will see a list of created backups. Select the one you need and select Restore from the drop-down menu. The phone reboots into recovery and restores the backup, after which it boots in normal mode.
6. The biggest beauty of these backups is that God forbid the phone dies, we just go into recovery mode using the 3-button method, click “Apply update.zip” and get into ClockworkMod Recovery Green colour, where there is a point backup and restore. At this point, we carry out the same procedures as through ROM Manager, namely: select the backup file and restore it.

It is for such situations that there is a very useful utility ROM Manager, with which you can simply flash new firmware while saving old system, and, as a last resort, return your device to factory firmware.

The utility is compatible with the vast majority of Android smartphones and many tablets.

Important! Everything you do now, you do at your own discretion.

Brief description of the firmware procedure:

Getting root access to your smartphone or tablet.

Installation ROM programs Manager.

Make a system backup.

Download the firmware you want to try.

Flash it.

If you don't like something, you can restore the system from a backup.

1. Get root access.

Overall it's not difficult task and how to do this can be seen here: What are rights root access what are they for and how to get them.

2. Install the ROM Manager utility.

The utility can be downloaded and installed from the Android Market

After running this utility, you will see the main menu:

3. Create a system backup.

To make a system backup, you will first need to install ClockWorkMod (recovery image).

This Image is equipped with a modified bootloader that replaces the OP bootloader of your device. Before you try to backup and restore your system using ROM Manager or any other utility, you need to install ClockWorkMod first.

The recovery image also gives you the ability to restore or flash your system from a backup, even when the system on your device is damaged and won't boot.

Installing ClockWorkMod

Important! Before starting the ClockWorkMod installation process, disconnect your device from the PC if it was connected to it via a USB cable.

Select the “Install ClockWorkMod” section, confirm your device or select it from the list that appears on the screen, and wait while the utility downloads and installs ClockWorkMod.

After this you can make a backup copy. To do this, select the “Save current ROM” section, the utility will suggest the file name for the backup copy and by pressing the “OK” button, start the copying procedure.

Important! Installation of ClockWorkMod is performed once and with another backup system, it no longer needs to be installed.

If you are reading this manual, then most likely you already know where you can download the firmware for your device. If you don't yet know where you can get the firmware, you just need to Google search type “Your Device Model Firmware” or “Your Device Model ROM”

For example, for most models you will find CyanogenMod (Nexus One phone or Viewsonic View Tab tablet and many other devices), for others it will be something like Damage Control (HTC Hero CDMA).

After you download zip file with the firmware, you need to copy it to the memory card. You don't need to unpack it, you just need to copy the file in the form in which you downloaded it.

If you have installed the ROM Manager Premium utility, then it has a “Download Firmware” section, by selecting which you will see a list of the most current firmware for your device, and you will not need to search the Internet and download the firmware version you need.

Although, it is also possible that the utility will not find any firmware for your device, then in this case you will need to find the firmware manually.

Then select in the next window the actions you need before installation (saving the current firmware is not necessary if you have done this before) and press the “OK” key.

The firmware procedure will last 10 – 15 minutes and the next startup of your device’s system may last approximately 20 minutes. You will just need to wait patiently for the process to complete. It is important not to forget to connect the charger to your device, because if at this moment your battery is discharged, you really risk getting a “brick” from your device.

It happens that after the “Reboot and Installation” stage, an Android image with a large exclamation mark appears on the screen. This means that there is no cryptographic signature for this firmware.

Don't worry, you will just need to reboot your device into recovery mode. Why do you need to click on the picture? exclamation point, your device will reboot and you will be taken to the system recovery menu.

Hello! Today I will tell you about the easiest way to install Custom Recovery. What is Custom Recovery and what is it for, you can read. The most basic features of CR are to backup the system, create partitions on the memory card (needed for Link2SD), reset battery statistics, format the system/ data/ cache/ sdcard/ sd-ext partition. Using CR, you can also flash firmware, change the kernel, etc. (everything should be in zip).

So, to install CR we will need to download ROM Manager from Google Play, as well as a smartphone from the list below with Internet access and ROOT user rights.

We do everything at our own peril and risk!

Install ROM Manager.

ROM Manager installs a CR called CLOCKWORKMOD. There is also CR Amon RA. Differences in the design and location of menu items.

To install CR CLOCKWORKMOD, we only need the free version of the ROM Manager application. There is also paid version. I don't see the point in buying. After installing CR, ROM Manager can be removed.

I have ROM Manager Premium v5.5.3.0. I downloaded it from 4PDA. True, in Google Play it is defined as free (seen in the screenshots from Google Play).

ROM Manager icon:

Open ROM Manager and grant superuser rights (ROOT).

The first item in the window that opens is what we need.

Internet access required:

The name of your smartphone model will appear in the top line.

Click on it. A warning will appear indicating that it is preferable to install CR over Wi-Fi:

After this, CR will be downloaded and installed. That's all.

Also, if your smartphone is not detected, you can try installing CR through this item:

But I wouldn't recommend it. Great opportunity to get a brick. If you still want to try, then read about those who have tried or have already installed CR via ROM Manager on your smart phone.

You can get into Custom Recovery mode through the ROM Manager.

In general, Custom Recovery replaces Hard Reset, so it is called in the same way: volume plus, home and power button. Before doing this, you need to turn off the smart phone.

Here's what CR CLOCKWORKMOD looks like (sorry for the photo quality):

Control is carried out: using the volume buttons - moving through the menu. Arrow - return. Menu - OK.

This is the easiest way to install Custom Recovery on your smartphone.

And also, if you partition the flash card via CLOCKWORKMOD, it will be formatted (I read it, I haven’t tried it myself). You can also partition the card using ROM Manager (controls CLOCKWORKMOD, so the card is also formatted).
