Search by images from Android and iPhone phones

Search images for iPhone and Android smartphones.
There are two popular ways to use Google: searching for things and topics or viewing images. A third way people use a search engine is to search for images they already have to find out where they come from. This is called reverse image search.

All three uses of the search engine are simple and easy to do on a Mac or PC. The first two are also easy to do on a smartphone, but performing reverse image searches on your phone is not common knowledge. Below, we'll look at how to search for images on Android and iOS devices using Google's search engine, before looking at a few methods you can use to perform reverse image searches on mobile platforms. Don't worry, nothing complicated. The method you choose is really a matter of personal preference.

Performing Google image searches on Android and iOS
The fastest and most convenient way to search images on Google on your mobile device is basically not too different from what you do on a PC or Mac:

1. Most mobile browsers, such as Safari and Google Chrome, offer a new tab or start page equipped with a search bar.
2. If you have set Google as your default search engine, you can search for images directly from the start page. Alternatively, you can go to images.google.com and start searching for images.
3. This will take you to Google search results. After that, tap the Pictures tab to view only pictures. Once you find the image you're looking for, select it and tap the three vertical dots to open a larger version of said image.
4. Tap and hold on the image and you will be prompted to save it to your device.

Performing reverse image search on Android and iOS
You have a few more options if you want to perform a reverse image search, no matter what mobile platform you use. You can use Google Chrome, ctrlq.org, or one of the many apps found in the Google Play Store or Apple's App Store.

Using Google Chrome:
1. Open the Chrome browser on Android or iOS.
2. Find the image you want to trace, tap and hold your finger on the image.
3. A menu should open. Click "Search Image on Google."

Using ctrlq.org:
1. In your mobile browser, type https://reverse.photos/.
2. Click on the "Upload Image" button. Here you can take a photo using your device's camera or select an image from your device's photo library.
3. Once the image is uploaded, click "Show matches" and Google will show you every web page with an image similar to the one you uploaded.

Reverse Image Search Applications
There are dozens of apps that will let you perform reverse image searches on Android and iOS, all of which can save you from having to open your browser every time you want to find the source of an image. Here are a few suggestions for both platforms that we recommend exploring.

Veracity (ios)
Veracity will use images from your camera gallery, photo library, or storage service like Dropbox and tell you everything it knows about the subject and where similar images can be found on the Internet.

If you return from a vacation in Paris and want to know a little more about the Eiffel Tower, for example, simply upload a photo to Veracity.

Reverseee (iOs)
Reversee is an app that lets you edit images before using them to search Google for similar images. You can crop, rotate, and change the resolution of the uploaded image, hoping to get different results.

Search results can be opened in different ways, whether in Safari or Chrome, and you can also add them to email and other messaging tools. Images can be saved directly into the application, which can also work with other applications.

The PRO version comes with a bunch of additional features, allowing you to automatically crop images, collect detailed information about images that appear in results, and so on.

Search By Image (Android)
Similar to Reversee, an app called Search By Image for Android allows you to make simple edits to your images before using them for search purposes. It has all the features you would want for reverse image search purposes, but SBI goes a step further by also informing you if the image that appears in the search results is fake, has been altered and passed off as new. Search By Image can also perform searches using part of an image, which can be especially useful when using large images such as collages or comic book pages.

Image Search (Android)
Image Search is an extremely easy to use application that allows you to upload images directly to the Google search engine. You can crop pictures before using them, upload multiple images at once, and share them with other apps.

Previous updates to the app have taken the user experience to the next level and also added new features such as the ability to download images in the background, receive notifications when downloading is complete, and more. The application is ideal for those who value multitasking on their smartphone.
