Jabber with otr encryption on ios. SJ im is the most secure jabber client for iOS. Application of the day

The Jabber network is designed for communication on the Internet. Jabber or XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) is an extensible messaging and presence protocol. Based on the XMPP protocol, many private and corporate servers XMPP. Among them there are enough major projects, such asFacebook, Google Talk, whatsapp, Odnoklassniki.ru, QIP, LiveJournal, Juick. For such communication it is necessary to establish special program, through which you will communicate with friends - the Jabber client. Your personal computers, smartphones or tablets may have different operating systems, so you will need to select a Jabber client specifically for your operating system. If you are using an iPhone with operating system iOS, then simple and convenient client Jabber - Talkonaut.
The installation algorithm for the Talkonaut client for the iOS operating system is quite simple. It will be described below.

Step #1. Installing Talkonaut on iOS

You will need to fill out the “JID” field - write the nickname of your interlocutor. You must receive a Jabber ID from your interlocutor. He should dictate it to you. You specify the Nickname of your interlocutor, with which he will be displayed in your Talkonaut client. Next, you can select the group of interlocutors to which you will belong new contact. When you have finished filling in all the data, click the “Save” button.

After this, your interlocutor’s contact will become available in the list of all your contacts by group. And your interlocutor will receive a subscription request from you. When he accepts it, you will start receiving statuses from him.

Thus, we learned how to add contacts of interlocutors in the Talkonaut client on an iPhone with the iOS operating system.

One of the most important aspects in online communication between interlocutors is privacy and security. It’s really worth thinking about the security of correspondence. Not once have cases of targeted “theft” of messages been recorded online, as well as cases of access to messages by third parties. And who among us wants to prevent someone else from finding out about a one-on-one conversation, especially if the messages are exclusively personal in nature and contain confidential information? SJ im– iOS application for ensuring reliable data encryption!

The security and protection of your messages is achieved through encryption. The SJ application uses one of the most reliable standards - OpenPGP (key size up to 4096 bytes). This is the main mechanism for protecting your data sent over the Internet, the invulnerability of which has long been tested by time.

How to organize an encryption system for Jabber correspondence on your device?

The first step towards safety is to download the SJ app on your iPhone or iPad. The tablet version has minor design differences, but functional characteristics identical.

Next, you must choose one of two options - creating a new key pair or using an existing one. You will be asked to fill in the required fields, after which you can fully use the application as a Jabber client.

I would immediately like to note the clear advantage of SJ im - support for the most popular and relevant communication services today (XMPP standard and Oscar protocol): ICQ, Psi, Miranda, Facebook, GTalk, Ya.Online and more. The multiplatform nature of the application allows it to be used not only on an iOS device, but also on Mac OS X and Windows. More information on how to install SJ im on one of the platforms can be found on the official website of the developers. By the way, there are many useful “facts” here that answer the most common questions from users.

If your friend also uses the Safety Jabber app, there is no point in worrying about the setup - it will happen automatically. If the other person is using another client with the PGP encryption algorithm, you will simply need to send him the key. In a situation where the recipient does not use such software, the correspondence will not be encrypted.

The developers took care not only of secure correspondence, but also of secure transfer of files that are archived with 32-digit passwords. Function One click to send with a self-explanatory name allows you to do this in one click.

Not a single Jabber client has been so intuitive to use, aesthetically attractive, and most importantly, safe!

S.J. uses an encryption algorithm OpenPGP. You can create your own key pair and import them into the program, or trust the application to generate a new pair.

The program supports PGP key size up to 4096 bytes, which will ensure complete confidentiality of correspondence.

S.J. compatible with any jabber clients, supporting PGP and JABBER (Psi, Miranda, etc.)

2. Secure file transfer

Transferring files in archives with 32-digit passwords is now very easy!

With our software you can easily transmit the most important information safe and convenient.

The program has a function "One click to send".

With its help, you can send a packed file to your interlocutor with a 32-character password with one click.

3. Encryption of history

The chat history in the program is encoded using AES algorithm, also known as Rijndael. No one will be able to access your correspondence history without the password for your PGP key pair.

P.S. Anticipating your question "Why not using the same OpenPGP?" let's say that decoding the stored history takes a lot of time. For example, decrypting 10,000 records takes about one hour.

Description of our Jabber client

In that iOS the application contains all the functions that are in the standard S.J. for Win and Mac OS! Therefore, here we describe only the distinctive functionality iOS versions S.J..

How we differ from other clients:

  • Automatic system encryption messages.
  • Compatible with all instant messengers that support PGP.
  • Supports any XMPP servers.
  • Attractive design.
  • Simplicity and ease of use.

These are the main 5 differences that we emphasized when creating our product.

Now you can provide complete safety when communicating on social networks (Facebook, GTalk (Google Talk), VK, Ya.Online, etc.), because all the chats of these social networks use the XMPP standard, which is supported by our program and is used in all its versions.

In order to use Accounts social networks, you just need to indicate your login instead of your jabber ID (example: in GTalk) when adding a profile, and all your correspondence for a third-party user (including Google) will look like “Message encrypted” “Message decrypted”.

Note: your interlocutor must, like you, use SJ to correspond with you so that the messages are encrypted. Regular UNencrypted correspondence will be conducted with any other interlocutor programs from your contact list.

The great thing is that you can from your own mobile device establish secure correspondence with any supporters PGP encryption applications (Psi, Miranda, etc.). In simple words, you are always mobile! And in order for your correspondence to be encrypted, you only need to receive the key from your interlocutor in the message! Program S.J. will automatically determine that it was sent to you PGP key, sign it and your messages will be encrypt!

We remind you: in order for your interlocutor to read your message, you need to send him your public PGP key! To do this, simply click on his name in your contacts list, hold for a few seconds, and after an additional menu appears, select “Send PGP key.” To our great regret, we cannot guarantee that your interlocutor is sufficiently versed in key signing technology to establish an agreement with you encrypted connection! That is why advise him to use S.J. so that all settings are made automatically!

Noticeable difference S.J. from other clients - this is a properly thought out and carefully worked out design of our product! You won't see anything like this in any client in the world. We especially note the ease of use and intuitive understanding of how to work with our product. We have followed all the basic principles of working with applications for iPhone\iPad, and, as it seems to us, we got 12 points!

Note: Many of the functions of our product are hidden inside the program. To do this, just hold down and wait a little for it to open. additional menus programs. Believe me, within 5 minutes you will be able to master our program completely!

Not long ago we already looked at a one-of-a-kind messenger for Mac, allowing the use of encryption protocols to guarantee the confidentiality of correspondence - . Today we will get acquainted with the version of this jabber client for i-devices.

Development for Mac OS X and mobile version the program was carried out by the company Triada Development Group. Here's what the developer himself writes:

"In the era digital technologies, becomes important question security of your correspondence on the Internet.
Most messengers are under the control of states and intelligence agencies.
We bring to your attention a completely new solution that has no analogues - Safety Jabber, or SJ for short.

SJ - Uses the most secure encryption protocol in the world, PGP (Pretty Good Privacy).
Safety Jabber uses the PGP asymmetric encryption system, which public key is transmitted over an open (that is, unprotected, observable) channel and is used to verify the digital signature and to encrypt the message.

A secret key is used to generate the digital signature and decrypt the message. This key it is not transferred anywhere and is securely stored on your computer, and is also resistant to password guessing.
Without a password, the private key is useless."

Actually, for protecting your correspondence the program offers all necessary set tools. At the same time, use S.J. much simpler than similar developments:

“Previously, to organize PGP encryption, you had to have serious knowledge. For a regular user it was beyond my power.

First we needed to install the jabber client, which supported encryption using plugins.

Then install the PGP environment itself. Generate private and public keys. Next, it was necessary to exchange keys with each interlocutor and assign them to the contact.
With the release of Safety Jabber, everything has changed - the program does everything for you and exchanges public keys automatically, and the PGP environment is already built into the client itself.”

Consider the iOS version on iPad example. Working with the program is very easy and convenient. The interface is designed in accordance with the capabilities of iGadgets, so all operations are carried out intuitively and simply. For example, to switch to a new contact, you can either tap on the corresponding tab, or swipe in the desired direction.

When starting for the first time, you need to create a new PGP key pair or import an existing one. To do this, just enter your name, e-mail, select the key length and password (which will be requested every time you start the program). After this simple operation, all that remains is to log into your jabber profile (of course, you first need to register in this system). Next, the user will see the main menu screen, which we will familiarize ourselves with.

Safety Jabber menu for iPad versions and the iPhone is different. On iPhone/iPod touch it consists of 5 sections: Accounts, Contacts, Dialogues, Settings And XML Console. Actually, the names of the sections fully convey their content. The most interesting of them are the last two.

As for the iPad, the menu is divided into two windows: the contact list is on the left, and the correspondence window is on the right. You can access the previously mentioned sections using the button with the image of two gears.

IN Settings you can operate with accounts, contact lists, dialogs and perform other simple manipulations. The most interesting parameter here is the PGP key setting. Your public PGP key will be shown in a special window. If necessary, it can be copied or exported for exchange.

XML Console– a means of monitoring incoming and sending outgoing stans (commands) to the server. Additional settings here, in general, not, but there is interesting opportunity, which I will talk about later. This is a convenient and very informative tool, and its presence can only please you.

After adding a new contact, you may notice the message “Not encrypted”, which means that the session is in this moment not protected. If the contact is using the same client as you (or one that supports PGP encryption), then you can encrypt the session. To do this, click on the “session is not encrypted” button at the top right. There are two ways to check whether a session is currently encrypted or not: look at the state of the “session is not encrypted/session is encrypted” button or click on the XML button. In the console that appears, you can see the status of the current session, i.e. find out in what form messages are currently sent and whether the traffic is encrypted. Useful and relevant opportunity!

Safety Jabber, of course, is compatible with other jabber clients (Miranda, PSI, etc.) that use PGP encryption. It should be noted that when working with such clients, the exchange of public keys occurs in a semi-automatic mode. The user chooses a method convenient for himself (first you need to tap on the contact name): 1) sending a key 2) assigning a key. The contact, in turn, also shares its key. As soon as this happens, the session becomes encrypted.

In order for the user to make sure that there are no holes or gaps in SJ, the developer kindly provided a link where you can download the source code of the program and study it in more detail -. Sources are available only for Windows users.

Perhaps the only disadvantage of the SJ program can be considered a very considerable price, but it is justified by the high quality, as well as the uniqueness of this jabber client. SJ is of particular importance in the field of business, politics and law enforcement agencies.

The Safety Jabber (SJ) app is already available for Windows, MacOS, iOS. In the near future, the developers plan to launch versions for Android, Linux and Symbian. Thanks to SJ, the user receives a guarantee that all of his correspondence is reliably protected using the most reliable and hack-resistant algorithm (PGP)!
