The printer prints double letters. Why does printing double in Canon PIXMA iP7240, iP8740, MG5440, MG5540, MX924, iX6840

When one or another equipment breaks down, many wonder which service center to choose. Now the list of companies that do repairs is quite large and does not stop growing. Therefore, the choice is quite large.

In this article I will try to give some tips on what you should (or shouldn’t) pay attention to when sending your equipment in for repair. After all, the amount of money, time and nerves you spend directly depends on the right choice.

1. You should not pay attention to the respectability of the premises for receiving equipment, the number of staff and other little things. For extra square meters you have to pay rent, and the reception girls have to pay their salaries. So the prices for services need to be raised somewhat. Of course, there are exceptions, but they are few. I do not encourage you to give your favorite laptop or printer to a semi-basement room to an incomprehensible person who is a foreman, a receptionist, and the director of a company. But small company, in which there is only one, but intelligent person working at the reception, there is no need to dismiss it right away.

2. Check whether you pay for diagnostics if the technician was unable to repair the device or if you refused repairs. The requirement to pay for diagnostics in case of failure is quite normal; the technician spent his time working with your equipment. For example, I only do not charge diagnostic fees if I cannot repair the device or the repair costs more than half the price of a new one.

3. Check whether you pay for spare parts ordered by the technician if the item could not be repaired. If yes, run away from this service. You should not pay for the technician’s mistakes just because he did not correctly identify the breakdown and ordered the wrong spare part.

4. It would be a good idea to inquire about the maximum repair time. Also make sure that they contact you and give you the full cost before the repairs begin. Otherwise, you risk receiving a bill, for example, 80% of the price of a new device. And, since the repairs are completed, it will be very difficult to prove anything.

5. Read the repair receipt carefully. If you have agreed on some conditions, but others are indicated on the receipt, your verbal agreements have no force. Also pay attention to the description of the defect, appearance and device configuration. If something indicated is incorrect, this will enable the service center to return the device in a different configuration than in which you returned it, with mechanical damage or with another defect. For example, you delivered a laptop with the defect “No sound”, but the receipt states “Does not work”. The service center may give you your laptop, which no longer turns on.

6. It wouldn’t hurt to ask for a list of spare parts and their costs before starting repairs and compare them with prices on the internet. In this case, a markup of up to 40 percent is allowed. Many parts come without a warranty or may be damaged during installation. You also need to take into account the cost of delivery. Therefore, the SC should leave some reserve in terms of cost. But if the prices differ by 2-3 times, it’s worth considering.

You can also look at reviews on the Internet about a specific service or find out what service centers are in your region. For example, enter “Printer repair in Minsk” into the search. Just don’t forget, there will definitely be negativity. It is necessary to evaluate not the presence of negativity, but its quantity.

In any case - do it right choice and good luck to you!

Greetings, dear visitors. Quite often I am asked how to extend the life of a Canon cartridge or print head.

Let me make a reservation right away, first of all, we're talking about O ink cartridges for Canon printers. Such as CL-511, PG-510, CL-446, PG-445, CL-441, PG-440 and others. That is, we are talking about ordinary inkjet printers and MFPs that have two cartridges. For example MP280, MP230, MG2440, E404, MG3540 and others. But this also applies to Canon printers using a print head and ink tanks.

Let's figure out how printing occurs with these printers. I warn you right away that I will present the principle of printing in a very simplified manner.

The cartridge has an absorber - a sponge that contains ink. From this sponge they are fed into the nozzles (nozzles). Nozzles are tubes of very small diameter. Each tube contains one or more thermoelements. During printing, the thermal elements heat up, the ink boils (an air bubble is formed) and “shoots” onto the paper. I repeat, I described it very simply.

What happens if there is no ink in the nozzles? The thermoelements will still heat up. And the ink in the nozzles is also used as a coolant. Overheating will occur - the tubes (nozzles) will become deformed and/or some of the thermoelements will fail.

After which the cartridge will print poorly in some colors, or will not print at all.

I think the answer to the question “How to extend the life of a cartridge?” obvious - you need to make sure that there is always ink in it.

What about those who refill cartridges? After all, after the first refill, it no longer shows the ink level. There is a simple rule. If you need to print something, but you are not sure that you have enough ink - . It will not be worse. And perhaps this will save him.

If you expect that thanks to this advice, your cartridge will work forever, then you are mistaken. It will definitely burn. Why? Yes, because, according to the manufacturer, it is disposable (the statement does not apply to print heads using ink tanks). The main task of the manufacturer is to ensure that it is guaranteed to print the ink poured in from the factory, and then fail as quickly as possible. Yes, the manufacturer wants to do business with consumables, he also wants to eat :)

But I hope this article will help your cartridge last longer :)

Sometimes you come across unique things.

An Epson CX5900 MFP was received for repair, the image of which was doubled horizontally when printed - the offset of one image from the other was 1.5 mm. on all colors.

The head alignment picture looked like this.

Instead of squares there are three vertical stripes, all signatures are double. All offsets have same values all over the leaf and on all flowers. The printer had refillable cartridges installed. Ink compatible. The nozzle test is satisfactory - all nozzles are working. The strangest thing is that on the four the shift is the opposite, in the other direction, than on other points.

Solving the Offset Problem

Often in . However, this case is not like the usual ones.

Replacing the ink with original Epson ones did nothing. Cleaning the encoder also did not eliminate the offset.

It turned out that two images are formed due to two-pass printing. If you enter single-pass printing in the driver by unchecking the option high speed printing, the ghosting disappears when printing from a computer, but remains when copying offline.

If you look closely at the top picture, you will notice that the dark stripes that make up the square on the right are slightly wider, although it seems that the offset of the one is less than the nines.

Thus, we began to try to align the print head as follows. For each alignment, 9 was selected in each of the 5 horizontal tests. About 10-14 adjustments were made. Gradually the tests began to approach squares. In the final adjustments, items with minimal vertical stripes (horizontal stripes are not considered).

There are often complaints from owners on the Internet Canon devices the fact that when printing text or images on plain paper, the black print is distorted and doubled, although the printer prints photographs normally.

To solve this problem, many methods have been tried: wiping the positioning tape, repeatedly aligning the print heads, cleaning, using other inks, etc. But all to no avail.

I came across two such devices, and I decided to try to figure out the causes of this problem. PIXMA iP7240, iP8740, MG5440, MG5540, MG7140, MG6340, MX924, iX6840 have the same mechanics (iX6840 is an A3 printer and the mechanics are slightly different), the same PG marked QY6-0082 and use five ink tanks PGI-450 and CLI-451 . There are, of course, differences between these models, but not significant for current problem– presence of a scanner and additional functions– network, card reader, touchscreen and so on.

If you select printing on photo paper in the settings, the printer uses three colors and black water-soluble. And if you choose to print on plain paper, the printer will use pigment black ink. This is where the problems begin.

On the nozzle test, all colors are fine except for the black pigment (top). Therefore, a dirty positioning tape and problems with mechanics have nothing to do with it. Otherwise, the nozzle test for all colors would be equally bad.

Let's take a closer look at the test - no horizontal gaps are visible, the PG is not dry, the print on the napkin is clear.

No damage to the nozzles was also found, but just in case, it’s better to take a closer look at the black pigment nozzles.

To examine the nozzles under magnification, I took my Nikon D3100 with a 55-200mm lens, screwed my 18-55 lens onto it through the reverse ring and got an approximate magnification of 1 in 11. At the same time, the depth of field became almost zero, so the quality of the photo deteriorated.

The size of the areas in the photographs in reality is about 2.1 by 1.4 mm. First, let's look at the top of the line black pigment nozzles. The nozzles are orange dots that are clearly visible in the photo. Everything is in order here, but according to the test on top, the print is normal.

So let's move the camera down a little. The photo clearly shows the transition from normal nozzles to burnt (black) ones. At this point the seal begins to bifurcate.

Let's lower the camera even lower. Again no problems and nozzles working as above. And according to the test, the printing here is also normal.

Where the problematic printing begins, the transition from normal nozzles to faulty and burnt ones is immediately clearly visible.

Let's look at the center of the line, everything is really bad here, all the nozzles are completely black.

For comparison, I am attaching photos of the other colors, everything is fine with them, there are no burnt nozzles.

As a result, we can say that in the QY6-0082 PG the black pigment nozzles burn out very quickly. This may be due to the fact that the printer is experiencing “ink starvation”, that is, the lack of ink was not checked in time and the printer was not refilled. Therefore, on the same printers, but with installed CISS, this problem occurs much less frequently than when using a slam-shut valve or refilling original cartridges. However, even CISS does not guarantee that everything will be in perfect order.

The most interesting thing is that this does not happen with other colors, so most likely the problem is caused by the design of the PG, but there is no exact answer to this question yet. Based on the above, it becomes obvious that no amount of cleaning or other “dancing with a tambourine” will help; the problem can only be eliminated by replacing the print head, or, given the cost of the PG, by purchasing a new printer. If you are just thinking about buying a device of the above models, then it is better to choose something else, or, as a last resort, install a CISS in order to at least slightly extend the life of the printer, if the problem of distorted or double printing has not yet affected you.

Very often, during printing, the image may shift horizontally through equal intervals or double. Many printer users mistakenly think that the problem lies in the print head shifting and begin to chaotically put it in place. So what causes such a defect?

All modern printing devices have a positioning tape - an encoder, which is responsible for ensuring that the printer knows where the carriage is now and where it needs to go. This tape has tiny stripes at regular intervals that determine the trajectory of the carriage. If the positioning tape becomes contaminated with ink or dust, the print will be of poor quality - with gaps or double print. In this case, the encoder just needs to be cleaned with a napkin.

Sometimes ghosting occurs due to a foreign object getting into the printer - in this case, you need to check the internal cavity of the printing device for the presence of paper residues, small debris and other foreign objects. Another reason for doubling of text and photographs is incorrect placement of the ink cable or its holder (if a CISS is installed). IN in this case you just need to check all the elements NPC systems. You can further clean the carriage using the software.

Inspection of the printer and any manipulations with its structure must be carried out carefully so as not to damage the printing mechanism. All of the above actions can be carried out either independently or with the help of specialists at the service center.

Have you noticed that your laser printer doubles when printing? In general, many users of such printing devices sometimes encounter this problem, but solving it is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Of course, to solve this problem you can use the services service center, but why spend money if, with a competent and responsible approach, you can fix the problem yourself?

So, if a multifunction printer or printer prints a double image or text, then one of the problems may be a malfunction of the cartridge’s primary charge shaft. This problem can be solved by disassembling consumables and thorough cleaning of the named part. After these steps, you should carefully lubricate the shaft contacts at the points where they are attached using a conductive lubricant. But if the text or pictures continue to be duplicated, then the primary charge shaft will have to be replaced.

Duplicating an image on a laser printer

Why does a laser printer double when printing? It happens that it produces such a printing defect as a result of the oven not baking. This often happens after refilling using the wrong toner. The fact is that in this situation the baking temperature of the ink powder in the printer turns out to be slightly higher required parameters. In this case, the print sticks to the stove shaft, and from there it is re-applied to the paper, as a result of which the user receives a document with a repeating image. To laser printer started working in normal mode, you need to increase the thickness of the paper through the device settings. Thanks to this simple action the oven shaft will rotate somewhat slower, which is quite enough for the toner to bake and the pattern to stop doubling. After that, try printing a test document, and if you are satisfied with it, then the problem is solved, otherwise, check other recommendations. If you need to print, for example, certificates, diplomas, then be sure to set the parameters of your printing device to more thick paper or just thick paper. This action will save you from duplicating the image on printed sheets.

If the problem is not solved, then the possible reason for its appearance is the charge roller (corotron, also known as the charge shaft). The fact is that one of its sides is approached by a contact, which is a rather thin metal plate. Over time, it begins to gradually wear out and become poorly connected. As a result of this, the problem of “doubling” of printed texts and pictures appears. In some models, instead of this plate, a plastic sleeve is used, which is considered more reliable, however, during the operation of the printer, it begins to fail. To fix the problem, take a small knife and gently scrape it along this plate. Just in case, you can repeat this process. As additional action You can bend it further, and lightly process the charge shaft itself from the ends of the axle using a file. To make sure that the double printing problem has been resolved, print a few test documents on the printer. If he earned in desired mode, then congratulations, you avoided a trip to the service center.

As an additional action, if the problem is still relevant, you can wipe the magnetic shaft with wipes pre-moistened with alcohol. If at the same time you decide to replace the drum on the printer, then keep in mind that it can make your print more contrast and thus, the repetition of the image will become an order of magnitude clearer.

Problem with inkjet printer model

If it duplicates an inkjet printer, then possible reasons Ghosting occurs due to improper routing of the ink cable, contamination of the encoder tape, and the presence of a foreign object in the printer. To resolve the problem this kind of, you need to color and clean the encoder tape, and if necessary, clean the carriage. But if this does not help, then try to correct the position of the outer ink cable and clip - if you are using a CISS. In addition, carefully inspect the internal mechanism of the device; it may have been littered with any foreign objects, for example, scraps of paper.
