How to add photos to the cloud. What is Cloud Storage and why is it needed? How to upload and download documents from the mail ru service

Hi all!

Perhaps most of us have at least once encountered such a problem as a lack of free space on a PC’s hard drive or an urgent need to access the necessary files, documents and photos.

Of course, a standard flash drive can save you in such a situation. But how often have you forgotten a flash drive at work, at home, with friends, or even lost it? And flash drives often break down.

It is much more convenient and reliable to store your information in the so-called cloud storage. I’ll tell you today what it is.

What is cloud storage?

Cloud file storage is a special remote server.

Many Internet resources allow users to store personal information on their server.

This service is provided both for a fee and free of charge. Of course, services with paid services provide the most opportunities, but free ones can also be very comfortable.

Cloud storage is a place where you can store your data, which you can access anywhere and at any time. Naturally, provided that the Internet is available in this place.

The “cloud” can be used after installing special programs or directly from . Nowadays, applications for accessing files on a server can be installed not only on a computer, but also on a tablet or smartphone.

Advantages and disadvantages

Everything is clear about what cloud storage means, but what are its advantages? The main advantages of this method of data storage are:

  • Easy access to any files and documents;
  • In the event of a complete crash of the operating system, the content uploaded to the cloud will remain safe and sound;
  • All data can be stored forever;
  • Most Internet services provide these services completely free of charge.

Of course, in addition to the advantages, such a storage system also has certain disadvantages.

Some services are not able to provide encryption of information during transmission. This affects the security of sending your data.

The speed of operations depends on your Internet provider or mobile operator that provides Internet communication services.

But despite all this, one cannot but agree that the advantages of cloud storage are much greater than the disadvantages.

Google Drive

Google Drive cloud storage gives the user as much as 15 GB of space. If you need more, you can additionally purchase up to 30 TB.

Those who have repeatedly used services from Google, for example, google doc, will feel comfortable here. In addition, the Google Drive application is available not only for Windows OS, but also for Mac OS, Android, iOS.

Mega

Mega is a young but very promising cloud file hosting service created by Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom.

The advantage of this service over similar ones is complete confidentiality and data protection. Important features of the service:

  • encryption of all data in the browser using the AES algorithm;
  • the ability to exchange encrypted files between users;
  • keys to files are not published, but are transferred only in Friend-to-Friend mode.

For data storage, Mega provides you with up to 50 Gigabytes for free. Also, if necessary, you can additionally purchase:

  • 500 GB for $10 per month,
  • 2 TB for $19 per month,
  • 4 TB ($30 per month).

In terms of disk space, Mega is the most profitable among cloud services.

But due to certain shortcomings, this service still loses, for example, in terms of synchronization with other devices.

Cloud mail.ru

A promising “cloud” from Russian developers from Mail.Ru Group. Here you can store any information, share it with other users and synchronize it across all devices.

The cloud can be used both through the web interface and through mobile applications for iOS and Android. In applications for mobile devices, the function of auto-uploading photos from an iPad or iPhone is available. By activating this function, you will automatically transfer photos created using the device to the Cloud.

You are immediately given up to 25 GB of free disk space.

Yandex.Disk

An excellent free service from good old Yandex, which allows you to save your files and share them with other users on the World Wide Web.

From the very beginning, Yandex.Disk gives the user 10 GB, which is much less than in other services. Additionally you can buy:

  • 10 GB for 30 rub. per month,
  • 100 GB for 150 rubles per month,
  • 1 TB for 900 rubles per month.

Also, as a bonus, you can additionally be given:

  • 50 GB for promotions with partners
  • 512 megabytes for each friend you refer (in this way you can increase the volume to a maximum of 10 Gigabytes).

It is important that Yandex.Disk can be integrated into Microsoft Office 2013, that is, you can immediately save documents to the “cloud” of this service.

There is also a business version of Yandex.Disk, which differs from the standard one in the presence of an API and certain functions to improve security.

Dropbox

This cloud file storage allows users to store their own data and share it with each other with a password. That is, in order for your friends to see the files that you prepared for them, you will have to tell them the password for the document.

The main account gives you 2 Giga for free. Additionally, you can purchase 1 terabyte for 10 euros per month. By signing up for a “Business” account (12 euros per month) you can get as much space as you need.

Dropbox works great on both PC and mobile devices. Unlike other similar products, this application does not copy edited files to the server, but transfers only the modified, pre-compressed part. This makes Dropbox much faster than its competitors.

I told you about the most popular services. There are also little-known ones, you can search for information about them on the Internet.

Finally, I want to tell you about one great course that helped me increase my knowledge in the field of computer technology. We are talking about a course called “ Secrets of productive work at the computer».

Thanks to it, in a short period of time you will learn how to backup the data contained on your PC, restart the operating system yourself, make the most of the benefits of the Network, etc.

How much does it cost, you ask? Just some 1,490 rubles! If you are unable to master the course material (in the unlikely event), all your money will be refunded. If so, why not try it?

I hope the article was useful to you?! Share the link to it with your friends on social media. networks. Subscribe to the blog newsletter to receive notifications about new editions. See you!

Sincerely! Abdullin Ruslan

In this article I would like to write about how to use basic functions. In 2013, the well-known Russian Internet service mail.ru launched its own cloud data storage. Store all your important files in a personal cloud; the cloud allows you to access each file from absolutely anywhere in the world. All you need is access to the Internet.

Download options

Cloud storage from mail.ru has specialized applications for all of today's most popular mobile platforms and PC operating systems. The service does not limit the speed of uploading files to the cloud, thereby providing users with the opportunity to use the service as comfortably as possible.

I would like to note that in the cloud from mail.ru you get 25 Gigabytes of free free space on a personal virtual disk. The storage allows users to upload photos, videos, text files, folders, archives and many other types of files.

Cloud capabilities from mail.ru:

  • high speed of downloading user files of any size;
  • the ability to create backup copies of important files and folders;
  • the user can configure auto-download of files from the phone camera;
  • function of creating shared user folders and sharing files;
  • the ability to quickly share files on a social network;
  • synchronization with mail.ru mail;
  • built-in security system. Regular scanning of cloud files for viruses.

Let's look at how to start basic work with storage and how to upload files to [email protected].

Uploading photos to the cloud

In order to start working with the mail.ru cloud, follow the link cloud.mail.ru and using the login and password for your mailbox. You are now on the home page of your cloud storage.

To upload a photo to [email protected], click on the “+ Upload” button in the upper left corner and drag the photo you want to upload onto the pop-up window. You can also click on the “Select file” button and find the desired photo through the computer explorer. The selected photo will be uploaded to the storage automatically.

Uploading a folder

Now let's look at uploading folders to [email protected]. You cannot directly upload a folder to the cloud through a browser; you can only create a folder on the cloud and add to it all the files from your folder located on your computer. To quickly transfer a folder from your device to the cloud, follow the steps below:

There is another way to upload a folder to the cloud, which is faster. On your PC, create an archive of the folder and upload this archive to the cloud. You will not be able to open the folder in the storage, but only the ability to download the archive will be available.

Important! I would like to note that there are limitations when uploading a large file to the cloud. The file size cannot be more than 2 Gigabytes.

In the article, I briefly described the methods of uploading to [email protected], and also listed all the main features of this service. I believe that the 25 GB of free storage space, ease of use and user-friendly interface are good reasons to start using this one.

Cloud Mail.Ru offers its users convenient cloud storage that works for different platforms. But novice users may experience certain difficulties in getting to know the service and its correct use. In this article we will look at the main capabilities of the Cloud from Mail.Ru.

The service provides all its users with 8 GB of cloud storage for free with the ability to expand the available space through paid tariff plans. You can access your files at any time: through a browser or a program on your computer that works like a hard drive.

In fact, you don’t need to create a “Cloud” - you just need to log in to it for the first time (log in), after which you can immediately use it.

We have already told you how to log into the “Cloud” through a browser, software on a computer, or smartphone. In the article at the link below you will find detailed instructions and learn the nuances of using each method.

Web version of Cloud Mail.Ru

The main function of this service is storing files. There are no restrictions on formats for the user, but there is a ban on downloading a file larger than 2 GB. Therefore, if you want to upload large files, either divide them into several parts, or archive them with a high degree of compression.

View files

Downloads with the most popular extensions can be viewed directly in the browser. This is very convenient because it eliminates the need to download the object to your PC. Supported video, photo, audio, and document formats are launched through Mail.Ru's own interface.

By clicking on the service button, you will see a list of all the files stored on the disk, and by clicking on any of them, you can quickly switch to viewing it.

It’s easy to flip through files in order without leaving the viewing interface using the corresponding left/right arrows.

Downloading files

Any files from the disk can be downloaded to your PC. This is available not only through the file view mode, but also from the shared folder.

Hover over the desired file with your mouse cursor and click "Download". Nearby you will immediately see its weight.

Several files can be downloaded at the same time by first selecting them with checkmarks and then clicking on the button "Download" on the top panel.

Creating folders

To easily navigate and quickly find the downloads you need from the general list, you can sort them into folders. Create one or more thematic folders by combining any files according to the criteria you need.

Creating office documents

A useful and convenient feature of the Cloud is the creation of office documents. The user can create a text document (DOCX), table (XLS) and presentation (PPT).

Getting a link to a file/folder

A settings window will open. Here you can set access and privacy parameters (1), copy the link (2) and quickly send it by mail or on a social network (3). "Remove link"(4) means that the current link will no longer be available. Relevant if you want to block access to the entire file.

Create a share

So that documents from one cloud can be used by several people at once, for example, your relatives, classmates or work colleagues, configure its sharing. You can make it available in two ways:

  • Access via link- a fast and convenient option, but not the safest. It is not recommended to use it to open access to editing or even viewing important and personal files.
  • Access by email- users you invite to view and edit will receive a corresponding message by email and a link to the folder itself. For each participant, you can set up personal access rights - only viewing or editing content.

The setup process itself looks like this:

PC program Disk-O

The application is designed to access the Mail.Ru Cloud through the standard system explorer. To work with it, you do not need to open a browser - viewing files and working with them is carried out through programs that support certain extensions.

In the article about creating a cloud, the link to which is at the beginning of the article, we also looked at the method of authorization in this program. When you launch Disk-O and after logging in, the cloud will be emulated as a hard drive. However, it is displayed only at the time the software is launched - if you quit the application, the connected disk will disappear.

You can simultaneously connect several cloud storages through the program.

Adding to startup

To make the program run along with the operating system and connect as a disk, add it to startup. For this:

Now the disk will always be among the others in the folder "Computer" when starting the PC.
When you exit the program, it will disappear from the list.

Disk setup

The disk has few settings, but some may find them useful.

After changing the parameters, the program will reboot itself.

Viewing and editing files

All files stored on the disk can be opened for viewing and modification in programs that correspond to their extension.

Therefore, if any file cannot be opened, you will need to install the appropriate software. On our website you will find articles devoted to choosing applications for certain .

All changes you make to files are instantly synced and updated in the cloud. Do not shut down the PC/program until it is uploaded to the cloud (during synchronization, the application icon in the tray rotates). Please note files with colon (:) in the name are not synchronized!

You can upload files to the Cloud by adding them to a folder on your computer. This can be done in the usual ways:

Getting a link to a file

You can quickly share files and folders on your disk by receiving a link. To do this, right-click on the file and select from the context menu "Disk-O: Copy public link".

Information about this will appear as a pop-up notification in the tray.

This is where the main capabilities of the web version and computer program end. It is worth noting that Mail.Ru is actively developing its own cloud storage, so we should expect new features and functions for both platforms in the future.

Recently, not only computer but also mobile technologies have been rapidly developing. In this regard, the issue of secure storage of relatively large volumes of information has become very acute. And it is for this purpose that many IT corporations offer users of any type of device the use of so-called cloud services. How to use the cloud and services that are included in the basic kit of any developer will now be discussed.

What is cloud storage?

First, let’s define what kind of service this is. Roughly speaking, this is file storage in the form of allocated disk space for a company providing such services.

In other words, in a sense, it can be called a kind of virtual flash drive on which a certain amount of data is placed. However, if you need to constantly carry a USB device with you to access downloaded information, then such a service (for example, the Mail.Ru cloud or the corresponding Google service) can be accessed both from a computer and from a mobile device. That is, the files are synchronized in the cloud itself, and you can view or download them simply by entering your registration data (although in some cases this is not required).

Quite a lot has already been written about how to use the cloud. Now let’s pay attention to some main points, and also consider the simplest principles of its use, explaining the situation in detail.

Most popular services

It goes without saying that initially, to use such storages, you need to decide on a service provider, that is, choose the most suitable service for yourself

Today you can find quite a lot of such services. The most popular are the following:

  • Dropbox.
  • SkyDrive.
  • Cloud Mail.Ru.
  • "Yandex.Disk".
  • Google Drive (Google Disk).
  • Apple iCloud and iCloud Drive.
  • OneDrive, etc.

Before we figure out how to use each type of cloud, it should be noted that these services are somewhat uneven when compared to each other. The fact is that some repositories can be accessed exclusively from a computer terminal, while others require synchronization of both computers and mobile devices. Sometimes you may need a specialized application that plays the role of a kind of conductor, sometimes just an Internet browser is enough.

The same applies to freely allocated disk space for storing your files, as well as payment for additional space on a remote server. In any case, most services are very similar to each other.

What should you pay attention to before starting work?

Now let's look at some important points, without which the use of cloud services is out of the question.

The very first and most important thing is pre-registration, and in some cases it is absolutely unimportant whether it will be done via the Internet using a regular browser or a special computer or mobile application. The whole process takes a few minutes.

Mobile devices with operating systems installed on them differ favorably from stationary systems. The fact is that when you turn it on for the first time, to access some advanced functions or stores such as AppStore or Google Play (Play Market), the system initially prompts you to create an account (registered email address and password). At the same time, your smartphone or tablet already has a pre-installed application for working with cloud services. For convenience, you can install their desktop counterparts on a computer or laptop (although access can also be obtained through a browser).

Allocable disk space

Another important point is the amount of disk space that the user initially receives in the free version. As a rule, the volume on different services ranges from 5 to 50 GB. If this is not enough, you will have to increase the storage capacity and pay a certain amount for it, which includes the cost of purchasing more volume and maintenance for a certain period of use, which, by the way, can also vary.

General principles

As for how to use the cloud in the broadest sense, everything is quite simple. After registration, the user only needs to add folders and files, contacts and much more to the storage.

At the same time, in the settings section, he can add friends who, like him, will upload files to the server or edit them (the simplest example is Dropbox). Often, new users can use their own passwords to log into the system.

But here's what's interesting. When you install a special program on your computer, access to files in the cloud is much faster than when you launch the same Internet browser. The same can be said about synchronization. It is enough to place the files in the application folder, and synchronization will be performed instantly for all users who have access rights to the service. Let's look at the most popular storage facilities.

Cloud Mail.Ru

So, as mentioned above, you will first need to create an email account, after entering which the cloud service will be displayed in the panel at the top in the projects tab. This is the Mile cloud. How to use it? As easy as pie.

Initially, 25 GB of disk space is offered. carried out using the corresponding button, which can be used to add several objects at once. The limitation concerns only the size of the uploaded file - it should not exceed 2 GB. Before starting the download, you can use additional functions, for example, create, after which you can just as easily move and delete files. Please note: it does not have a “Trash”, as in the same Yandex service, so it will not be possible to restore deleted information.

The function of creating, viewing or editing files can be very useful. Let's say we have a Word document (or it is created directly in the repository). Changing it directly in the cloud can be as easy as if the user were launching the editor on a computer. Upon completion of work, we save the changes, after which synchronization occurs again.

Yandex cloud: how to use?

With the Yandex service, in principle, things are almost identical. The functional set, in general, does not differ much.

But the developers of this service thought that the user could delete files completely by accident. This is where the so-called “Trash” comes to the rescue, into which information is placed when deleted. It works like a standard computer service. True, data recovery tools are not applicable to it if they have already been deleted from the Recycle Bin. Nevertheless, the function is very useful.

Google Drive storage

Now let's move on to another powerful service called Google Cloud. How to use Google Drive? There are no fundamental differences compared to other services. But here access can be obtained both from a mobile device (built-in service) and using a utility installed on a computer (not to mention logging in via an Internet browser). With a phone or tablet everything is simple, let’s look at the computer program.

We assume that the account has already been created. After activation, the user receives 5 GB of storage. An increase to 25 GB will cost approximately 2.5 USD. We install the application on the computer, after which the service folder appears on the Desktop (it is also displayed in Explorer).

As is already clear, just place the files in this directory and synchronization will occur. During operation, the program “hangs” in the system tray in the form of an icon. Right-clicking opens an additional menu where you can view the available space for downloading files, make personalized settings, expand storage space, shut down, etc.

One point is especially worth noting here. As it turns out, copying files to the program folder on your computer and then downloading them from the cloud to your mobile device turns out to be much faster than connecting the gadget to your computer and then copying them using Windows.

iCloud and iCloud Drive services

Finally, let's look at how to use the Apple cloud. There are two services (iCloud and iCloud Drive) that are pre-installed on the iPhone or iPad in accordance with the version of the operating system installed on the device. Essentially, iCloud Drive is an updated version of iCloud, and for it to work correctly, I should take into account that the mobile gadget must meet the stated technical requirements: iOS 8 on the device itself. Computer - with Windows 7 or higher with the iCloud for Windows extension, or a computer terminal with Mac OS X 10.10 or OS X Yosemite.

Initially, after logging into the service, folders created by default will be displayed there. Their number may vary depending on the settings of the computer and the client on the mobile device. How to use the cloud on iPhone? In principle, there is nothing supernatural about this. It is enough to launch the application on the gadget (switch the launch slider to the on state) and log in using your account. It’s another matter when the input is supposed to be from a computer. Here you will need to use the settings menu of the program itself and select enable there.

Another disadvantage is the rather low synchronization speed (this is recognized by everyone). And one more, most unpleasant moment. If you switch from iCloud to iCloud Drive without updating all devices to the required configuration, the data in the old cloud will simply not be accessible, so be vigilant.

Conclusion

That’s briefly all that concerns the question of how to use the Cloud application or services of the same name. Of course, not all the possibilities of such services are considered here, but, so to speak, only the general principles (basics) of work. However, even with such minimal knowledge, any newly registered user will be able to carry out basic operations within 5-10 minutes.
