Where is the cloud on the iPad? Everything you need to know about iCloud Drive. Apple's Cloud

This is a cloud storage from Apple in which you can store any files and have access to them from any mobile device and computer. iCloud Drive fits seamlessly into the iOS and OS X operating systems. Starting with iOS 9, iCloud Drive has its own application that is included in the system.

The basic principle of iCloud Drive: the user edits a file on one device, at any time he can switch to his other device and start editing the file there.

iCloud Drive works on iOS 8 or later, a Mac running OS X 10.10, or a Windows PC running the iCloud app for Windows (requirements: Windows 7 or later).

You can also access iCloud Drive on the website.

How to enable iCloud Drive?

In OS X Yosemite and OS X El Capitan. If by some coincidence iCloud Drive is not yet enabled, then you need to go to System Preferences->iCloud. And check the iCloud Drive box.

IN Parameters you can see a list of programs that can store data in iCloud Drive.

On the iPad, you need to go to Settings->iCloud->iCloud Drive and turn on the iCloud Drive checkbox.

If you immediately enable the “On the Home Screen” item, a separate iCloud Drive program appears on one of the desktops in iOS.

How iCloud Drive works in OS X

In OS X, working with the cloud is extremely simplified. In Finder, a special folder appears on the left. It contains folders from applications that store data in iCloud Drive. You can also create your own without any problems and throw any files there.

iCloud Drive on Windows

You need iCloud for Windows installed on your computer (you can download it from a special page on the Apple website). In it you need to check the iCloud Drive box.

The iCloud Drive folder will appear in Explorer. You can use it like a regular folder, but all the data in it will go to the cloud.

How iCloud Drive works on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

In iOS 8, iCloud Drive seems to exist and even work, but the user does not see its visual embodiment. Applications such as Pages, Numbers, iA Writer, etc. save files to the cloud and store them there. But Documents can even create folders in the cloud, but still the programs only have access to their own folders.

As I wrote above, iOS 9 finally has a special iCloud Drive application.

In it you can finally manage folders and files in the cloud. Create new folders, move files, delete.

You can also open files, although for some reason they open slowly. The opening speed is unstable.

Sending documents

iCloud Drive is a secure cloud. So secure that the file or folder in it cannot be shared. Perhaps, for now.

But documents from iCloud Drive can be opened in another program or sent by mail, messages, etc.

In iOS 9, the standard email app now has the ability to add an attachment from iCloud Drive. You need to tap on the text of the letter and select “Add attachment” from the menu

The iCloud Drive window appears, in which you can select files to attach to the letter.

iCloud Drive and other cloud storage

iCloud Drive is a clear attempt to wean Apple fans away from competitors' cloud storage services.

The main advantage of iCloud Drive is that the cloud is already built into iOS and the iCloud ecosystem. That is, if a user buys space for an iCloud media library, the same free space is available for iCloud Drive.

Prices are generally reasonable:

  • 5 gigabytes free
  • 20 gigabytes - 39 rubles per month
  • 200 gigabytes - 149 rubles per month
  • 500 gigabytes - 379 rubles per month
  • 1 TB - 749 rubles per month

Flaws:

1) unlike competitors' offerings, iCloud Drive cannot share files and folders. Perhaps this jamb is just a matter of time.

2) while some kind of limitation is felt. For example, on the website icloud.com you cannot update folders in iCloud Drive, and in the program on the iPad you cannot specify files that need to be stored offline.

So far we seem to be seeing the first version of Dropbox, although what is stopping Apple from taking the best developments of its competitors right from the start and implementing them in its application?

What else do you need to know about iCloud Drive?

The maximum file size in iCloud Drive is 15 gigabytes. There are no file type restrictions.

In the settings, you can prevent the use of iCloud Drive on cellular networks. I recommend doing this if you have a limited data plan.

Settings->iCloud->iCloud Drive->Cellular Data.

In the same window, you can block individual applications from accessing iCloud Drive.

What is iCloud? A convenient service for storing data or an attempt by Apple to interest the buyer? Find out how to use it and you will answer this question.

To use the cloud, you will need a Mac, Windows 7, 8, or a device running IOS 5.0 or higher. Be sure to register an Apple ID, it is needed to sign in to iCloud. When everything is ready, follow these steps:
  1. Open Settings>iCloud. Enter your Apple ID and password into the form.
  2. After authorization, create an email on the @icloud.com domain, it is needed to use the Mail, FaceTime and Messages applications.
The service automatically places your device data in cloud storage; you just need to connect to the Internet. All saved data can be synchronized with another device and quickly transfer information to a new iOS tablet. The service provides 5 gigabytes of memory. If there is not enough space, you can buy it or clear the memory at any time, for example, delete some photos.

In the storage menu, you can disable backup for any application.

The backup occurs every time the device is locked or charging. The service copies the following information:
  • Photos and videos on the device;
  • Purchase history of AppStore, iTunes, iBooks;
  • Device settings, notes, bookmarks, etc.;
  • Application data.

You can upload information to the cloud at any time. To do this, click on the “Create a backup” button.

If it's stolen or lost, Find My iPad can help you lock your phone with a four-digit passcode. It allows you to display the owner’s phone number on the monitor, find out the approximate location of the device, and even erase data from it. Such devices cannot be used until the owner enters a four-digit password or disables the lost mode. You can lock your phone on the iCloud website or download the Find My iPhone app.

Family Sharing will allow you to share information between family members. These can be purchased applications, movies or music. With this feature you will be able to share photos and videos. Within the family there will be a shared calendar, notes, purchased books in iBooks and much more. Creating family access is important if your family has several iOS devices. Family sharing can include up to six people. When registering, you must add a valid credit or debit card.

You can make the location of each family member visible on the map.

The “Keychain Link” function is no less useful. It saves information about accounts and passwords in the Safari browser, passwords of authorized Wi-fi. It also stores credit card numbers and expiration dates. The function allows you to synchronize this data with other devices. To do this, enter the security key on the new device and confirm the transfer of the “keychain” on the old one.

Apple uses 128-bit data encryption. Such ciphers are used by financial institutions.

iCloud is a service that stores very important personal data. Can Apple guarantee their safety? The company has a strict privacy policy, multi-level verification and additional security measures.

At first glance, iCloud gives the impression of an additional service with a bunch of “junk,” but once you learn how the main functions work, the impression changes dramatically. Apple offered not just a storage of personal information, but also a new way to fill your life with harmony.

Those who do not yet know what iCloud Drive is, what it is for and what can be stored in it. Don't worry from this post, you will learn:

iCloud Drive- part of the iCloud cloud service, which appeared in 2011. You can store photos, videos, documents and music in it. iCloud Drive not only stores all this, but also provides access to all your devices, from iPhone and iPad to Windows and macOS computers. The service has automatic synchronization between all devices. It is possible to create new files and folders in applications that support this service and work with them in several applications and on different devices at once.

You can also access iCloud Drive from iCloud.com. Here you can create and edit office documents in Pages, Numbers and Keynote. View saved documents from other applications.

Apple is giving all users 5GB of free data. You can store any file in iCloud Drive, but the size of one file should not exceed 15 GB and, of course, no more than the volume that is available to you. Speaking of which, the volume can be increased with a monthly subscription fee, the prices are as follows:

  • for 50 GB you need to pay 59 rubles/month,
  • for 200 GB - 149 rubles/month,
  • for 2 TB - 599 rubles/month.

Friends! If you have an iPhone, you don’t have to use iCloud cloud storage, but of course it’s more convenient. For those who don’t like him, I’ve also put together a selection.

Digital content provided by Apple for its customers - iCloud. I will tell you how to log into your account from different devices in iCloud, tell you about Apple ID and other interesting things, one way or another related to logging into your account and managing files. If you have already registered a user ID for yourself, but have forgotten the password for it, then we will also touch on the recovery procedure in this article.

Create an account

I understand that if you are reading this article, you probably already have a registered account for Apple services. But it is better to study any question sequentially, and therefore we will start with creating an account with which you can log in to the Apple cloud.

Like other major companies that provide a wide range of digital media services, Apple has a single account to access all of its services. The same policy is followed by, for example, Google, Microsoft and even Yandex. Apple calls such an account Apple ID, and to register it you will need:

Important! If you have an iPhone or any other device from this manufacturer, then when you first entered the application store you were already asked to register. Go to account management on your phone to make sure you don't have a previously created account.

Login with an existing account

Now we come to the most interesting and important section of the article. To log into iCloud on your computer using the account you created earlier, you will need:

  1. Go to icloud.com using your browser.
  2. Enter your registration information in the appropriate fields.
  3. Check the box next to “Keep logged in”.
  4. Press the button with the right arrow icon, or press the enter button on the keyboard.

Of course, we won’t forget about how to log into icloud from your phone. However, here everything is much simpler. If your phone is connected to the Apple ID account we created a little earlier, then simply open the iCloud app and manage your files.

If you have not logged into your account on your smartphone at all, then when you open this application, a corresponding request will be displayed, where you need to enter your Apple ID and password.

Changing your phone account

It may happen that an account has already been created on your smartphone, but due to ignorance or inattention, you simply did not remember the registration data, which is why you cannot log into Apple services from your computer and other devices. In this case, you can create a new ID by following the instructions above, and then simply change it in your phone as follows:

Important! If you use an iPad, then almost identical instructions apply. Similarly, you will need to change the user. All apps that require an Apple ID will be signed in automatically.

Password recovery

This point is especially important. If you can’t log into iCloud because you don’t remember your password, but you’ve previously used file synchronization via the cloud and made purchases in the App Store, then it’s better not to change your account, but to restore access to your old account. This is due to the fact that content and purchase history cannot be restored if you switch to another account.

So, how to recover your password? Here again you will need to resort to the help of a computer:

  1. Using an Internet browser, visit the website icloud.com, logging in to which provides access to files saved in the cloud.
  2. Click on the “Forgot your ID or password?” button. at the bottom of the page.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to perform the access restoration procedure.

I think the question of how to log into an account on icloud can be considered closed. Be careful when filling out your registration information and always use strong passwords to prevent third parties from hacking your ID. You can read about how to recover data from iPhone using iCloud, and how to block your device using iCloud.

The weakest point of the iPhone is its memory (unless, of course, you have a model with 256 GB of memory), so using cloud storage is a great idea. It’s incredibly convenient when files don’t take up space on your iPhone and at the same time they’re always with you.

Yandex.Disk

Yandex.Disk is the best cloud storage service in Russia. I asked my friends and acquaintances what cloud they use, they all answered Yandex.Disk. I asked my colleagues - most answered Yandex.Disk.

This is because Yandex.Disk has a large number of functions, such as an image editor, support for all platforms, a convenient sharing system, and much more. Every year Yandex gives 1 GB of free space, and for referring friends you get 512 MB.

For registering Yandex.Disk you get 10 GB of free space or you can sign up for an annual subscription for 2,000 rubles for 1 TB storage.

Google Drive

If you want free storage with a large capacity and no less reliable, then pay attention to Google Drive. You get 15 GB of memory for free. Another advantage of Google Drive is Google Photos, which provides unlimited storage space for photos with a resolution of no more than 16 megapixels.

Like Yandex.Disk, Google Drive supports almost all platforms, and it is the ideal cloud storage. Google Photos allows you to store photos, Google Docs allows you to create and store documents, and you can also create spreadsheets and presentations.

Google Drive is a range of great tools and cloud storage where you can download anything you create and upload to store from any device. This service is pretty hard to beat since it's all free.

If there is not enough free space, you can rent additional space

  • 100 GB - 139 rub./month.
  • 1 TB — 699 RUR/month.
  • 100 GB - 1390 rub./year.
  • 1 TB — 6990 rub./year.

OneDrive

If you use an iPhone and iPad but prefer Windows computers to Macs, try OneDrive. It's also available on almost anyone and works similarly to Google Drive. OneDrive is already installed on Windows 10 devices, so if you want to sync all your iPhone data with your computer, all you need to do is make sure you're signed in to the same account on both devices.

OneDrive can also send real-time notifications when someone edits a document and shows who exactly. An exclusive feature of the program is the PDF commenting function, with its help you can highlight, draw and sign on any PDF file from your iPhone or iPad. If you need the cloud to store your photos, OneDrive is also a good option, and it automatically tags photos and categorizes them to make them easier to find in the future.

5 GB of free space, you can also expand up to 50 GB for 72 rubles per month, 1 TB + Office 365 for 269 rubles per month and other tariff plans.

Cloud Mail.Ru

Mail.Ru Cloud is another excellent service; if for some reason you didn’t like the disks from Yandex, Google and Microsoft, be sure to try Mail.Ru Cloud. It's also a great service, with support for most platforms.

You can share files, watch videos in popular formats, without actually having to download them to your device. Back up photos from iPhone and much more.

Mail.Ru provides 16 GB of free space, if you need more you will have to subscribe, so +16 GB will cost 379 rubles per year, and +256 GB: 229.00 per month or 2,290.00 rubles per year.

Box

Another good cloud storage service, Apple noted this application as the best for business. Like previous applications, Box supports most platforms and file collaboration.

You get 10 GB for free, but the size of each file is limited to 250 MB, if you decide to subscribe to the Personal Pro plan, you will get 1000 GB of storage for 5990 rubles per year and a limit of one file of 5 GB.

Real-time search allows you to find files faster, and you can rest easy knowing that all files are protected with encryption.

If you need to collaborate with files and not use your Yandex, Google or Mail account. Box is the perfect option.
