Repair of laptop chargers. Repair of laptop chargers: from spot soldering to complete replacement of the unit. What kind of laptop charger repair work does our service center do?

The laptop has become an integral part of almost every modern family. Its compact size, the presence of all the necessary functions and the availability of work anywhere made it a leader in sales of computer equipment. But it’s not too often when you buy a laptop that you think about repairing it. Like any piece of technology, it is prone to breakage; the multitude of electronics, bending, sliding and fragile parts make it vulnerable to mechanical damage. And the power supply turns into almost a consumable item. Repairing high-precision electronics at home is a risky business, but if you have a power supply with a soldering iron, you can try to fix it.

Repairing a laptop power supply from any manufacturer begins with diagnosing the breakdown. As a rule, the connector is the first to fail. Try moving it to the sides, if the charging disappears and then appears, that’s the problem.

Then you need to try to determine as accurately as possible the location of probable cable damage. Then disconnect the power supply from the network and carefully cut the wire at the point of damage, securely connect the ends of the wires, solder and insulate. It is very important here not to mix up the wires; be sure to pay attention to the color. At the same time, if the damage location is too close to the connector, shorten the cable and solder a new connector.

If everything is in order with the male plug, you need to check the mating part of the connector, carefully examine the mechanical damage and the bending angle of the contact plates. If deviations are detected, trying to align them and put them in place, as a rule, does not lead to the desired result; only replacing the laptop can help.

Carefully disassembling the block, you can see how the connector is connected to the board. It could be soldering, it could be a plug. And here it depends on the situation. It is necessary to carefully unsolder the old connector, without overheating the tracks or adjacent parts, then use a match to free the holes from the tin and just as carefully solder the new connector. If it is a plug, then it is easier to disconnect it and free the connector from its mounting on the board (as a rule, these are latches). If the connector is glued, use extreme caution when disconnecting it from the board, there is a possibility of damage to the tracks. After which a new one is mounted in place of the old connector - everything is extremely simple.

Repairing a laptop power supply can become more complicated, as some manufacturers fill the entire board with silicone. In this case, you will have to try. Freeing the connector from dried silicone is a painstaking and very delicate process, but a real one.

If repairing a laptop power supply is not limited to replacing connectors, it is better to contact specialists. Even if you have some electronics skills, laptop power supply is quite specific, and finding a graphical representation of it can be a challenge.

When starting disassembly, remember that there may be voltage on the power supply, which can lead to In addition, there are a large number of small and fragile spare parts. And improper repair of a laptop power supply can lead to its damage and failure of expensive components!

When buying a laptop or netbook, or more accurately calculating the budget for this purchase, we do not take into account further associated costs. The laptop itself costs, say, $500, but also the bag is $20, the mouse is $10. When replaced, the battery (and its warranty life is only a couple of years) will cost $100, and the power supply will cost the same if it burns out.

This is exactly what we will talk about here. A not very wealthy friend of mine recently had a power supply for his Acer laptop stop working. You will have to pay almost a hundred dollars for a new one, so it would be quite logical to try to fix it yourself. The power supply itself is a traditional black plastic box with an electronic pulse converter inside, providing a voltage of 19V at a current of 3A. This is the standard for most laptops and the only difference between them is the power plug :). I will immediately present here several power supply diagrams - click to enlarge.

When the power supply is turned on, nothing happens - the LED does not light up and the voltmeter shows zero at the output. Checking the power cord with an ohmmeter did not yield anything. Let's disassemble the body. Although it’s easier said than done: there are no screws or screws, so we’ll break it! To do this, you need to place a knife on the connecting seam and hit it lightly with a hammer. Be careful not to overdo it, or you will cut the board!

After the housing is slightly separated, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the resulting gap and forcefully draw along the contour of the connection of the housing halves, carefully breaking it along the seam.

Having disassembled the case, we check the board and parts for anything black and charred.

Testing the input circuits of the 220V mains voltage immediately revealed a malfunction - this is a self-resetting fuse, which for some reason did not want to be restored when overloaded :)

We replace it with a similar one, or with a simple fusible one with a current of 3 amperes and check the operation of the power supply. The green LED lit up, indicating the presence of 19V voltage, but there was still nothing on the connector. More precisely, sometimes something slips, as if a wire is bent.

You will also have to repair the cord connecting the power supply to the laptop. Most often, a break occurs at the point where it is inserted into the case or at the power connector.

We cut at the body first - no luck. Now near the plug that is inserted into the laptop - there is no contact again!

A difficult case is a break somewhere in the middle. The easiest option is to cut the cord in half and leave the working half and throw away the non-working half. So I did.

We solder the connectors back and carry out tests. Everything worked - the repair was completed.

All that remains is to glue the case halves together with “moment” glue and give away the power supply. The entire repair of the power supply unit took no more than an hour.

Despite its relative simplicity, the power supply board still has a number of functional elements. Capacitor failure is common. They have a certain working life and are quite sensitive to temperature changes.

A visual inspection will help identify non-functioning capacitors. But gaining access to the “stuffing” of the charger is problematic - their cases, as a rule, have a non-separable design. Without the proper skills at home, it is unlikely that you will be able to carefully open and securely close the case.

After the capacitors, you should check the condition of the fuse. As a result of a power surge, it could burn out, having fulfilled its direct function. The serviceability of the fuse means the beginning of a detailed diagnostic procedure for each unit of the power supply to detect the problematic element. Repair comes down to replacing broken components and necessarily ends with testing the operation.

Laptop charger repair prices

The power supply is an important element of a mobile computer. It allows you to connect to the network and charge the battery, thanks to which you can work autonomously without connecting the laptop to an outlet. But it happens that a laptop charger needs to be repaired. What reasons can cause malfunctions?

When is a laptop charger repair required?

If you have connected your mobile computer to the network, but it does not work and the battery does not charge, there is a high probability that the problem is in the power supply. It also happens that when connected there is contact, but it is intermittent, and the process of restoring the energy reserve in the battery either stops or continues again. This may also indicate other problems, such as a broken power connector. Therefore, the technician uses a special tester to measure the voltage at the contacts and determine exactly what happened to your laptop.

What can cause a power supply to fail? This can be caused by various reasons, including:

  • mechanical damage caused by falls or impacts;
  • cable damage due to frequent bending or sudden jerks;
  • faulty wiring or socket;
  • sudden surges and drops in voltage in the network;
  • moisture getting inside the power supply;
  • overheating - especially when used in an unheated room.

How do we repair a laptop charger?

If the diagnostics showed that the problem is in the power supply, the technician inspects it, if necessary, disassembles it and determines the cause of the malfunction. As practice shows, it is often impractical to repair laptop chargers. Both labor and components are too expensive compared to the cost of a new power supply.

Not all adapters are universal. Therefore, our specialist will either offer you a specific option that is guaranteed to fit your mobile computer, or explain how to buy a device that will definitely suit you.

We carry out repairs and diagnostics of laptops of various models manufactured by different companies. Extensive experience and highly qualified specialists make it possible to effectively solve any, even the most complex tasks.
