BASIC OPERATIONS

Turn the switch clockwise to turn on the station. Turn the switch counterclockwise to turn off the device.
A beep is heard if this function is activated.

Rotate the Volume Control to adjust the desired volume level.

Rotate the Channel Selector to select the desired channel.
When you receive the corresponding signal, you will hear a sound from the speaker.

Note:
If the battery is low, the radio will stop transmitting and beep.

Communication equipment may have coded squelch or squelch programmed into it. If the selected channel has squelch programmed, you will only hear radio stations in your group. If the selected channel does not have squelch programmed, you will hear all signals transmitted on that channel (not just your group's signals).

Press the PTT button and speak into the microphone to make a request, the LED will turn red.

If this channel is not programmed, a beep sounds and the LED flashes alternately red and orange.

Release the PTT button to receive a signal. If there is a signal, the LED lights up green. And there is sound from the speaker.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

When you can reliably communicate with other carriers without using High Output Power, select Low Output Power to increase battery life:

1.Turn off the radio.

2.Press and hold the PTT button and turn on the power.

  • hold the PTT button for at least 2 seconds
  • hear a beep if the power has been switched
  • The TX indicator glows Red when output power is High and Orange when output power is Low.

3.Each channel can be programmed with either high or low power.

4.Release the PTT button to complete the settings.

This feature also works if programmed.

The purpose of adjusting the squelch level is to set it correctly. If the level is set correctly, you will only hear sound from the speaker when a signal is actually being received and there will be no periodic "pop" when there is no signal. The higher the value selected, the stronger the signal should be when received. The squelch level depends on the environmental conditions and the received signal strength. You can select level from 0 ~ 9 (Default: 2). This feature is only available when programming from a computer.

When you turn on the station or when you rotate the channel selector, the radio station notifies you about the number of the selected channel. This feature can be disabled or selected in English by your dealer or distributor. If this feature is disabled, there will be no messages when you turn on the device or rotate the channel selector.

The transmission time limit timer is designed to prevent one user from occupying the channel for too long. If you transmit continuously for more than the set time, the radio will stop transmitting and a beep will sound. To silence the beep, release the PTT button. You can then resume transmission by pressing the PTT button again. The TOT function is programmed from a computer.

The battery saving function reduces current consumption in standby mode (when there is no reception, transmission or button presses). The radio automatically switches to low current consumption mode 5 seconds after stopping reception or the last press of any button.

This feature is designed to alert you that the battery needs to be recharged or replaced. If the battery is low, the indicator light will turn red and a beep will sound when transmitting or receiving. This function is programmed via a computer.

You can use the Monitor button to listen to a weak, intermittent signal that is not audible during normal operation. You can also adjust the sound when there are no signals on the selected channel. Press the Monitor button to listen for weak signals and release it to return to normal mode.

Scanning is a function of searching for a useful signal on all channels. During scanning, the radio checks for the presence of a signal on each channel and stops on the channel that has a signal. The AjetRays AJ-446 radio remains on a busy channel for approximately 5 seconds. The Scan Key function is programmed from a computer to channel 16. If it is programmed and activated, scanning automatically starts when switching to channel 16. The indicator light turns green. To Enable/Disable scanning, with the radio turned off, press and hold the Monitor button, then turn on the radio's power.

Note:

  • Press and hold the Monitor button to stop scanning; release the button to continue scanning.
  • Scanning can only be used if the radio has at least two channels programmed into it. Also, at least two memory channels must not be blocked from scanning.

This function is programmed from a computer. If there are no tones or DCS programmed on the selected channel, the AjetRays AJ-446 radio will not be able to transmit if it is receiving.

Alarm mode should only be activated in extreme circumstances. Press and hold the Alarm button for 2 seconds to enable this mode. To disable this feature, repeat this procedure.

When this function is activated, you will hear a beep when the battery is low, channel busy (BCL), TOT function or channel without data and so on. This function is only available by programming from a computer.

..

VOX allows you to transmit without your hands. The transmitter is turned on automatically when the AjetRays AJ-446 device or remote headset begins to speak into the microphone. When working with VOX, it is important to set the VOX gain correctly. If the microphone is too sensitive, the transmitter will turn on even from minor sounds. If the microphone is not sensitive enough, the transmitter will not turn on from voices, but only from loud sounds. Ensure that the VOX gain is set to the proper sensitivity and ensures that the transmitter is turned on correctly. The VOX function and VOX gain are programmable from the computer.

Some channels may be programmed with CTCSS or DCS signaling. The CTCSS/DCS tone is a tone that allows signals encoded with a different tone or without a tone to be inaudible. This is necessary when several groups of users work on the same channel. If a channel is set to tone squelch, the squelch will only open when the received signal contains the corresponding tone. In the same way, the signal you transmit will be heard only by those channel users whose reception tone matches the transmission tone of your AjetRays AJ-446 radio. If the receive tone is not set, then you will hear all signals, regardless of whether they are tone-encoded or transmitted without tone.

A lot has been said and written about the need for reliable communication during hunting, fishing, and hiking, including in our magazine. Therefore, I would not like to repeat myself. Let's just say that in most cases, having a walkie-talkie not only saves a lot of time and effort, but also helps to get by with small losses in an extreme situation. Sometimes a person’s life and health literally depends on the ability to communicate via radio.

Therefore, let’s take it as a given formula that you can do without a walkie-talkie when hunting, fishing or traveling, but its presence creates additional convenience, and sometimes can seriously help out in an emergency situation. Any hunt, especially a ungulate animal, has its own history that is different from other hunts. It is impossible to predict its course; the behavior of the beast is almost always non-standard. On a collective hunt, there is a need to constantly adjust common actions. But how to do this if there is no mobile communication in most hunting grounds? The answer is clear - you need a walkie-talkie that can solve the problem.

What real hunter doesn't want to have a good and stable connection while hunting. But here’s the question: how not to make a mistake when buying? It's not the price that's scary, but the wide range of choices. We agree, the risk of making a mistake is great. You can pay a high price for all sorts of bells and whistles in a walkie-talkie that does not have sufficient power or the necessary communication range. But I want to buy an easy-to-use walkie-talkie, even if it has a minimum of technical capabilities, but is powerful enough and provides the required range. Hunters are not inclined to make their choice in favor of “bells and whistles”, but most of them are also not inclined to give up “useful” ones.

The Ajetrays AJ-446 compact walkie-talkie, which has appeared on the market, has already aroused increased interest among hunters and, especially, among hunting staff, as it combines high reliability and ease of operation. The main thing that interests hunters is, of course, the “range” of walkie-talkies. It is important for yourself to determine the required maximum radius of stable communication that you expect when purchasing walkie-talkies. And, of course, it would be interesting to try and see how the walkie-talkie shows itself in action in the field. It was for this purpose that the editorial staff went to the hunting grounds, taking with them two brand new Ajetrays AJ-446 radios.

During the test, the task was not to check the passport characteristics. We were mainly interested in consumer qualities and the possibility of successful use of walkie-talkies in driven hunting for ungulates (elk, wild boar, deer, etc.), where communication range, as stated above, is of paramount importance. Beaters often move away from the shooters who are on numbers at considerable distances - up to five kilometers or more. In the event that the animal does not want to follow the path to the shooters planned by the beaters and changes direction, it is necessary to promptly give the command to quickly change position and intercept the prey. It’s a shame when it’s not possible to do this. Here you need a walkie-talkie that can cover this distance and provide good communication. It is for use in driven hunts that hunters most often purchase walkie-talkies.

During testing of the Ajetrays AJ-446 radio, no special emergency situations occurred. The corral is just like a corral, nothing unusual. The hunting grounds were an area crossed by streams and small ravines, without sharp depressions or hills, covered with mixed forest. The sun was shining, but it was quite cold: at least minus three. The maximum distance from the beaters to the shooters in a straight line, which was recorded by the navigator, was 4.8 km, the maximum was 5.3 km. Communication at these distances worked as well as possible, despite the low temperature and high humidity of the forest. 40 minutes after the start of the drive, a quiet shot fired from the side of the beaters, signaling the start of the drive. Soon the radio started working: “There are tracks, they are coming towards you, meet the beast.” The shooters tensed, raised their barrels and concentrated. You could hear the dogs starting to work. How important it is for a hunter to receive such simple information on time. The result was a successful hunt; the herd of wild boars was met fully armed. Three licenses were closed. Again, the final command was heard over the radio: “All clear, the hunt is over. Everyone move towards the base."

To maintain proper condition and maintain order, any hunting, fishing or tourist base has a security service. Operational contact, as a rule, is carried out by internal telephone communication, which, unfortunately, does not fully satisfy all the needs necessary for the coordinated work of the team. Mobile telephone service is often not available or only works in certain areas of the territory. But the use of walkie-talkies completely covers the issue of operational communication on the territory and beyond. Imagine a typical situation. Base camp, where groups go simultaneously in different directions - hunters to hunt, fishermen in boats on the river and a group of different ages with baskets in search of mushrooms or berries. Base employees are required to ensure the safety of all their clients. Radio communication is the only guarantor of prompt assistance. If necessary, the walkie-talkie makes it possible to easily contact fellow hunters or transmit to the base the necessary information about people who find themselves in difficult situations. But even if the base has the required number of radios, it must be borne in mind that the range and quality of radio communications in real conditions depend on many factors. From the weather, the terrain, the presence of large objects or power lines in the path of the radio wave, and even the time of day. So, if you try to contact a hunting buddy while in a car, it is better to go outside or purchase and install a car antenna on the car. The range and quality of communication will improve. The walkie-talkie user must also take into account the fact that the higher the antenna, the further the communication.

The main factor that can increase or decrease the range of a radio is, of course, the terrain where the transmission is taking place. In hilly conditions, good results can be obtained if both hunters are on the top of the hills. The result will be disastrous if at least one of them ends up in a ravine or deep hollow.

Our radios operated in the LPD range, in which communication in the forest should be somewhat inferior in terms of performance to communication in a tree-free area. In reality, in a slightly hilly deciduous forest in clear weather, the maximum communication range via the AJ-446 radio was slightly more than 5 km, and on a treeless plain in direct visibility it was almost 7 km. Distances were measured using GPS navigators. Tests of AJ-446 walkie-talkies have shown that they can be recommended to hunters, fishermen, tourists, hunting base workers, rangers, and game wardens as an inexpensive, high-quality means of communication for carrying out work on organizing hunts, for transmitting operational information, and for helping people in difficult situations .

Experts recommend, if necessary, increasing the communication range through the use of basic external antennas, which are installed on the roofs of the administrative building of the base, on a car, all-terrain vehicle or on ATVs, snowmobiles, boats, etc. In this case, the range of radios increases significantly.

For the test, we used only one model that is most suitable for hunters. Ajetrays LLC offers a whole line of walkie-talkies for various applications, which can be found on the company’s website www.AJETRAYS.RU.

Sale of Ajetrays AJ-446 walkie-talkies is possible with delivery throughout Moscow, as well as pickup from the point of issue.

To replace the portable radio model AjetRays AJ 446, which began to gain popularity, an updated version was developed in 2010. The model immediately attracts attention with its modern design, which at the same time inherited the laconicism and utilitarianism of the previous version. The station body has more rounded outlines and smooth lines. From a technical point of view, the new model retains classic solutions that have become familiar and have stood the test of time.

Appearance, design

The AJ-446 case is made of black plastic with a leather-like texture. Under the speaker slots there is a fine metal mesh that prevents debris from entering the station body. In the previous version, the fabric glued along the inner grid of the speaker slots protected against the ingress of small debris and dust. It's difficult to say which solution is better. On the one hand, the fabric better protects from dust, on the other hand, if it peels off from the body, the fabric can rattle and cause sound distortion in the operation of the speaker.

The shape of the case is made taking into account ergonomic requirements. The station fits comfortably in the hand, its slightly widened upper part and the relief on the sides of the lower part prevent the radio from slipping out of the operator’s hand. The weight of the station with a belt clip and antenna is 203 g. The previous model with the same configuration weighed a little lighter - 191 grams. Nevertheless, the mass of the radio station is within the limits typical for most modern portable transceivers.

The belt holder is attached to the back of the battery using two screws included in the kit. In the old version, the clip was latched using a slide

Antenna

The antenna is quite flexible, has a smooth surface and a rounded top, which will have a positive effect on ease of use and ease of removing the radio station from under clothing. Compared to the previous version, the antenna of the AjetRays radio station is 2 cm shorter and has a length of 11 cm. The antenna connector is SMA “female” (the old version had a “male”). Thus, antennas from older versions are incompatible with the new model. When ordering mobile or stationary antennas, this feature should be taken into account.

Controls

The AjetRays AJ-446 v2 radio station has a classic “right-handed” control knob arrangement. The antenna is located on the left, and the handles are on the right. In this configuration, it is convenient to hold the radio station in your left hand, and switch modes with your right.

On the top panel there is a 16-position channel switch, a power knob/volume control and a three-color mode indicator. The font of the channel numbers is larger and more legible than the previous version. The channel switch knob does not have a raised position mark, like the previous version, but only. But the handles themselves are a little larger and more comfortable. As in the first version, channel numbers are announced in English when switching. In general, the switches do not cause any difficulties in using.

On the right side of the Ajetrays AJ-446 station body there is a connector for connecting a headset or remote PTT. The connector is protected from moisture and dust by a rubber plug. In the previous version, the plug was made of plastic and was fixed with a Phillips screwdriver.

On the left side there is a PTT button and two additional buttons, the functions of which depend on the programming of the radio station. The PTT button has a raised pattern and is comfortable to use with both the right hand (index finger) and the left (thumb). By default, the bottom function button turns on the “monitor” mode (turns off the noise suppressor), and the top button turns on the “Alarm” mode. In the previous version there was a single functional button responsible for the “Monitor” mode.

Function buttons and PTT are also used to program radio operating modes. So, for example, having set the 16th channel, turning on the walkie-talkie with the PTT button pressed switches the output power of the radio station's transmitter, the lower function button turns on channel scanning, and the top one switches the language of the channel number (English/Chinese/silent). Those interested can learn to count to 16 in Chinese))).

Battery and charger

The battery of the updated version is also lithium-ion, but has a larger capacity - 1200 mAh versus 800 mAh in the previous version. As in the older version, the battery has a sled at the bottom for charging in a glass separate from the radio. By the way, when charging together with the radio station, fixation in the charging glass occurs due to the same battery slides, and a gap is formed between the front wall of the station and the glass. Probably, the enlarged charger socket was made with the expectation of using batteries of increased capacity and, accordingly, increased size.

The batteries have different fastening locks and are not interchangeable. In the new version of the AJ-446 station, the battery is inserted into grooves in the lower part of the radio body and snaps onto one latch on top. In the previous version, the battery in the upper part of the radio body was fastened with two latches on the sides of the battery, to remove which it was necessary to press two latches simultaneously. It is difficult to say which design is more reliable, but the new version is definitely more convenient.

Specifications

In terms of communication quality, the new AjetRays AJ-446 is not inferior to the previous version. Good speech intelligibility is ensured by high sound quality, despite the lack of a built-in digital voice processing function (compader). The sensitivity and selectivity of the receiver are within the same limits as the previous version, which ensures a high level of reception.

As for the output power of the transmitter, the new station has twice as much power. The declared power of the AJ-446 is 4 W. The power of the sample tested by the MobilRadio laboratory turned out to be 5 W. This will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the communication range.

The radio station has the ability to switch output power (Low/High), which will allow you to use the station in maximum range mode or in battery saving mode. Different channels can be programmed with different power levels.

Programmable Features

The Adgetreiz AJ-446 walkie-talkie has a wide range of functions programmable from a computer:

  • 50 CTCSS/107 DCS coding tones
  • channel scanning
  • priority scanning
  • Transmit Limit Timer (TOT)
  • busy channel blocking
  • battery saving mode
  • "repeater" frequency shift for communication via LPD/PMR repeater

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would like to note that the new version of the Agetreyz AJ-446 station is in the same price category as the Optim WT-555, Vector VT-44 Master stations. With a solid feature set, superior communications performance and a clean, utilitarian design, Ajetrays is an excellent choice for industrial and residential applications. The station is perfect for security guards, warehouse workers, supermarket workers, homeowners associations, builders, athletes, tourists, hunters and fishermen.

We present to your attention the new ergonomic radio Ajetrays AJ 446. Like the older model portable radio AjetRays AJ-344, the Ajetrays AJ-446 station is certified in Russia. The mere fact of having a certificate does not guarantee the quality of the product, but it does indicate the seriousness of the supplier and concern for the consumer. The fact is that the presence of a certificate automatically eliminates many questions to the user from the radio frequency center and other inspection authorities.

The new Ajetrays AJ-446 radio station has many functions and a maximum transmitter power of up to 3.5 W, but first things first...

Appearance, controls, ergonomics

The AjetRays AJ-446 station has a classic, strict design and a minimal set of controls. The radio is based on a high-strength metal chassis, ensuring reliability and durability of the structure. The body is made of high-strength plastic, has a rough surface that is pleasant to the touch and does not allow the transceiver to slip out of your hands. Under the speaker slots there is a fabric glued to the inside of the speaker grille, which prevents debris and dust from entering the station body.

The AjetRays AJ-446 radio station is equipped with a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 800 A/h. Together with the fast charger supplied, the battery provides sufficient continuous operation time during the shift.

On the top panel there are: a light indicator, an SMA-type antenna connector, a 16-position channel switch and a volume control/radio switch knob.

An interesting feature of this model is that the channel number is announced when the radio is turned on or when the channel is changed. A female voice says the channel number in English with a slight Chinese accent. Probably in the near future we will get a Russified version of the dubbing. At least the latest Soontone-518 models “speak” Russian. This feature can be disabled or selected in English by your dealer or distributor. If this feature is disabled, there will be no messages when you turn on the radio or rotate the channel selector.

The announcement of channel numbers seems to be more of a useful function than a marketing trick, since it is quite difficult to distinguish the small numbers printed under the channel number selector knob, and besides, only odd-numbered channels are marked. In the dark or in poor lighting, you can determine the channel number in the absence of this function only by the number of clicks of the selector, first turning it to the far left position and counting the channel number, starting from the second.

The belt clip has a spring-loaded design with sufficient spring stiffness for reliable fixation and a power reserve for comfortable use. The upper tongue of the clip is equipped with an eyelet for attaching the strap to the wrist. This design, in my opinion, is not entirely reliable, since the load is transferred from the strap to the clip, from the clip to the battery, and from the battery to the body of the station. However, the complete absence of play in the battery and clip, as well as the high quality of the plastic, allows us to consider this drawback to be insignificant.

Like the older model AjetRays AJ-344, the AjetRays AJ-446 radio is equipped with a flexible antenna 13 cm long. This antenna design, combined with a threaded antenna connector mounted directly on the metal chassis, provides this vital radio station with maximum reliability.

Functions and operating modes

The AjetRays AJ-446 radio station has a minimal set of controls, which corresponds to the professional purpose of the device rather than the amateur one. A fairly large set of functions can be programmed from a computer. Moreover, functions will be controlled by changing the channel or by a single function button located under the PTT button.

The function button can be programmed to perform one of the following functions:

Key lock / Key lock and backup. Holding the function button for 1 second will lock/unlock the radio buttons and channel selector. If the button is programmed as "Key lock and backup", the lock will remain in effect until the radio is powered off.

Monitor. After pressing the button and a confirmation sound signal, the Ajetrays AJ-446 radio station will switch to signal reception mode without programmed CTCSS or DCS codes. In other words, this is a function to disable the code squelch. To return to the mode of working with code subcarriers, you need to press the button again.

Monitor momentary. The function is similar to the previous one, but the code disabling mode is active only when the function button is held down.

Squelch off. Disable squelch. An ethereal noise will be heard when the function is activated. Used to receive very weak signals that are interrupted when the squelch is turned on. The transition to normal mode is carried out by pressing the function button again.

Squelch off momentary. The function is similar to the previous one. To listen to over-the-air noises, hold the button. This feature is programmed by default.

Scan. Scanning is a function of searching for a signal on all channels. During scanning, the radio checks for the presence of a signal on each channel and stops on the channel on which the signal is present. The radio remains on the busy channel until the signal is lost. To start scanning, press the function button. Scanning is performed by searching through channels, starting with the current channel in ascending order of channels. To stop scanning, press the button again.

Priority Scan. If the radio is programmed with a priority channel, the radio automatically switches to that channel when a signal appears on it, even if the current channel also has a wanted signal. The radio will remain on the priority channel until the signal is lost and after the signal is lost for the programmed delay time. The scan will then resume.

Scan+temporary delete. “Temporarily exclude a channel from scanning”, that is, the ability to temporarily remove a channel from scanning. When scanning is stopped on a channel, the channel can be removed from scanning by pressing the function button. To return a channel to the scan list, you simply need to exit scan mode, or turn the radio off and then on.
Priority channel cannot be removed from scan.

TOT. The transmission time limit timer is designed to prevent one user from occupying the channel for too long. If you transmit continuously for more than the set time, the radio will stop transmitting and a beep will sound. To silence the beep, release the PTT button. You can then resume transmission by pressing the PTT button again. The TOT function is programmed using a PC.

Busy channel blocking. This function is programmed from a computer. If the selected channel does not have CTCSS or DCS tones programmed, the radio will not be able to transmit if it is receiving.

Tone Squelch (50 CTCSS, 107 DCS). Some channels may be programmed with CTCSS or DCS signaling. A CTCSS or DCS tone is a tone that allows signals encoded with a different tone or without a tone to be heard. This is necessary when several groups of users work on the same channel. If a channel is set to tone squelch, the radio will only receive a signal that contains the corresponding tone.

Likewise, the transmitted signal will only be heard by those channel users whose receiving tone matches the transmit tone of your radio station. If the receive tone is not set, you will hear all signals, regardless of whether they are tone-encoded or transmitted without tone.

Battery saving mode. The battery saving function reduces current consumption in standby mode (when there is no reception, transmission or button presses). The radio automatically switches to low current consumption mode 10 seconds after you stop receiving or the last time you press any button.

Cloning via cable. The radio allows you to copy all programmed functions of another radio using a cloning cable (not included).

The VOX mode stated in the instructions is not implemented in this modification. Perhaps this feature will be present in future versions.

What's inside?

The AjetRays AJ 446 radio station is a well-assembled device, based on a durable aluminum alloy chassis. The installation and soldering of the elements were also done quite well.

The housing parts are tightly fitted to each other, which provides satisfactory dust and splash protection. The radio does not have a rubber seal around the perimeter of the case, which in practice is more of an advantage than a disadvantage. The fact is that it is not possible to ensure complete moisture insulation in radio stations of this class. However, some models are provided with a hermetically sealed connection of the housing halves using a rubber seal, and have holes in the housing for controls and speakers. If moisture gets into such a radio station, it accumulates in the lower part of the case, where it causes corrosion of the printed circuit board elements.

The Ajetrays AJ-446 station has a receiver with a sensitivity of 0.2 mV (12 dB SINAD), transmitter power - 3.5 W. The weight of the radio station with antenna, clip and battery is only 190 grams.

Who is our competitor?

The closest competitors are the portable stations Vector VT-44 Master and Optim WT-555. One could also mention the Soontone 518 and its variant, imported into Russia under the Kenwood brand, but due to its low reliability, this model is gradually leaving the market.

Vector slightly outperforms AjetRays AJ-446 in price, but loses in power and communication range and a little in functionality.

The Optim WT-555 radio is also slightly cheaper and has the same functionality as the AjetRays, which can be controlled using the existing buttons and display. The Optim WT-555 station has a b O higher power (4 W) and also b O higher battery capacity (1100 mAh).

However, most industrial applications require a minimum set of controls and sufficient transmitter power. Then the AjetRays AJ-446 station becomes the only alternative. The radio station is perfect for security guards, warehouse workers, supermarket workers, homeowners associations, builders, athletes, tourists, hunters and fishermen.

Portable walkie-talkie Agetreyz AJ 446
comparative review of the remake AJ-446 v2

To replace the AjetRays 446 compact walkie-talkie model, which began to gain popularity, an updated version was created in 2010. The updated model immediately attracts attention with its modern design, which at the same time inherited the laconicism and utilitarianism of the previous version. The body of the radio station has more rounded outlines and smooth lines. From a technical point of view, the new model retains classic solutions that have become familiar and have stood the test of time.

Appearance, design

The body of the Agetreyz AJ-446 station is made of black durable plastic with a leather-like texture. Under the speaker slots there is a fine metal mesh that prevents debris from entering the radio body. In the previous version, the ingress of small debris and dust was protected by a fabric glued to the inside of the grille of the speaker slots. It's difficult to say which solution is better. On the one hand, the fabric protects better from dust, on the other hand, if it peels off from the body, the fabric can rattle and cause sound distortion in the operation of the loudspeaker.

The shape of the case is made taking into account ergonomic requirements. The Agetreise body fits comfortably in the hand; its slightly widened upper part and relief on the sides of the lower part prevent the radio from slipping out of the hand. The weight of the radio with belt clip and antenna is 203 g. The previous model with the same configuration weighed a little lighter - 191 grams. Despite this, the weight of the radio is within the limits typical for most modern compact transceivers.

The clip is attached to the back wall of the battery using two screws included in the kit. In the old version, the clip was latched using a slide

Antenna

The antenna is quite flexible, has a smooth surface and a rounded top, which will have a positive effect on ease of use and ease of removing the radio station from under clothing. Compared to the previous version, the AjetRays AJ-446 antenna is 2 cm shorter and has a length of 11 cm. The antenna connector is SMA “female” (the old version had a “male”). Thus, antennas from older versions are incompatible with the new model. When ordering mobile or stationary antennas, this feature should be taken into account.

Controls

The Agetreyz radio has a classic arrangement of control knobs “for right-handed people”. The antenna is located on the left, and the handles are on the right. In this configuration, it is convenient to hold the radio station in your left hand, and switch modes with your right.

On the top panel of the radio there is a 16-position channel switch, a power knob/volume control and a three-color mode indicator. The font of the channel numbers is larger and more legible than the previous version. The channel switch knob does not have a raised position mark, like the previous version, but only. But the handles themselves are a little larger. As in the first version, channel numbers are announced in English when switching. The Russian-speaking version has not yet appeared. In general, the switches do not cause any difficulties in using.

On the right side of the Agetreyz radio body there is a jack for connecting a headset or an external PTT.

So, for example, having set the 16th channel, turning on the radio simultaneously with the PTT button pressed switches the output power of the radio station's transmitter, the lower function button turns on channel scanning, and the top one switches the language of the channel number (English/Chinese/silent). Those interested can learn to count to 16 in Chinese))).

Battery and charger

The battery of the updated version is also lithium-ion, but has a larger capacity - 1200 mAh versus 800 mAh in the previous version. As in the older version, the battery has a sled at the bottom for charging in a glass separate from the station. By the way, when charging together with the radio station, fixation in the charging glass occurs due to the same battery slides, and a gap is formed between the front wall of the station and the glass. Probably, the enlarged charger socket was made with the expectation of using batteries of increased capacity and, accordingly, increased size.

With a standard battery, the AjetRays radio can be placed in the charger in two ways - closer to the rear wall (charge mode) and closer to the front wall (no charge). Despite the seeming insignificance of this feature at first glance, in practice this feature turns out to be very useful. Often, users using a walkie-talkie in close proximity to the charger (at the base) every now and then after a communication session return the transceiver to the charging cup. In this mode, a “memory” effect occurs when the battery is not completely discharged, but no longer carries the load. Despite the fact that the memory effect of Li-Ion batteries is insignificant compared to metal hydride and nickel-magnesium batteries, nevertheless, it should not be neglected. And the “life” of the battery does not increase with constant charging.

The batteries have different fastening locks and are not interchangeable. In the new version of Ajetrays, the battery is inserted into slots in the bottom of the radio body and snaps into place on top with one latch. In the previous version, the battery in the upper part of the radio body was fastened with two latches on the sides of the battery, to remove which it was necessary to press two latches simultaneously. It is difficult to say which design is more reliable, but the new version is definitely more convenient.

Specifications

In terms of communication quality, the new Ajetreiz AJ-446 is not inferior to the previous version.

The declared power of AjetRays is 4 W. The output power of the sample turned out to be 5 W. This will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the radio communication range.

The AJ-446 radio has the ability (without programming from a PC) to switch the transmitter power (high/low), which will allow you to use the station in maximum range mode or in battery saving mode. Different channels can be programmed with different power levels.
