Firmware for iPhone 4 without iTunes. An example of updating iPhone firmware over Wi-Fi. Applicable for iPad and iPod touch

Hi all! At first glance, the question in the title seems rather trivial, but many novice iPhone/iPad users (hereinafter, let's just say iPhone) very often do not know not only how to reflash an iOS device, but also why it is needed in general. First, a little tedious theory to better understand the process, and then step by step we will consider all possible firmware methods.

What is iPhone firmware?

They call it firmware recovery or update iOS. Flashing is necessary to return the iPhone to its factory state and install the latest software on it. This is done if:
a glitch was detected in the iOS device;
installation of the latest version of the operating system is required;
you need to create a “clean system” (out of the box condition), for example, when the phone passes to a new owner.

It is important to distinguish between processes updates And recovery. In the first case, user data will not be deleted - photos, contacts, applications, etc. In the second, all data will be lost and the phone will return to its factory state.

What methods can you use to flash your phone's firmware?
There are two ways to flash iPhone firmware:
flashing your phone using iTunes;
installing iOS updates using a Wi-Fi connection.

The first one is universal; it can be used to both restore the system and update it. The software is first downloaded to your computer via iTunes and then installed on your phone. The second method consists only of updating and requires the presence of Wi-Fi.

Attention! Never update a jailbroken device, this can lead to very sad consequences (eternal iTunes icon on the screen). It is best to restore a jailbroken iPhone in DFU mode.

Also, you should not update or restore your iPhone to the official firmware if it is locked.. Otherwise, you risk losing the ability to unlock it programmatically, since the version of not only the iOS firmware is upgraded, but also the firmware of the modem itself.

Three iPhone modes. What are they for and how to use them

There are three main modes in which the iPhone can be:
Normal. The normal operating state of your phone.
Recovery mode (or Recovery mode). In this mode, the device can be restored from a previously made backup copy, or updated to the latest firmware version via iTunes.

To enter the device into Recovery mode you must:
1. Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable;
2. Then turn it off;
3. Turn on, and then press and hold the Home button until the image appears;

4. To exit the device from this mode, simultaneously press and hold the power button and the round central button (home) for 10 seconds. After turning off the phone, turn it on as usual (hold the power button for 3-5 seconds)

Update mode (DFU). This is a special device mode in which iOS does not load, and all technical and service information is supplied to the device via a USB connection. DFU mode restores all settings. In this mode, unlike Recovery, nothing is displayed on the screen (white or black). When iTunes recognizes your iPhone in DFU mode, the following message will appear on the screen.

To put your iPhone into DFU mode you need to:
1. Connect the device to the computer using a USB cable;
2. Simultaneously hold down the Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds;
3. Now release the power button, but continue to hold Home until the computer determines that the device has entered DFU (see image above);
4. Exiting from this mode is similar to exiting from Recovery;

How to flash iPhone using iTunes?

In Recovery mode

1. First, you need to get the latest version of iTunes.
2. Next, download the current firmware for your device;
3. Now connect the iPhone as usual to the computer and launch iTunes;
4. Select your device;

6. In the window that opens, select the IPSW file downloaded in step 2 and click open;

7. The recovery process has begun.

In DFU mode

1. Download and install iTunes (from the link above);
2. Now download the latest firmware for your iOS device (also from the link above);
3. Convert iPhone to ;
4. Launch iTunes;
5. While holding down the Shift key (if you have a Mac, then Alt) click on the Restore button;
6. In the window that opens, select the IPSW file downloaded in step 2 and click open;
7. We are waiting for the end of the recovery process.

Currently, iPhone is the leader in the global mobile phone sales market. This is due to its service features, great capabilities, variety of functions, options and services provided. This phone boasts high quality and many years of trouble-free operation. But nothing in this world lasts forever, including electronic equipment. Over time, the device stops functioning well, and some strange errors constantly pop up. Quite often, and for no apparent reason, the smartphone restarts. In addition, each user may encounter a problem when the latest update of a personal mobile device was not very successful or the new version of the operating system was not to their liking. In this case, the first thing the owner thinks about is how the iPhone firmware of the corresponding version is carried out, including 4s. We’ll talk further about how to properly reflash a gadget yourself.

Features of flashing a smartphone

The problems listed above make you think and make a choice. Take the iPhone to a service center, where it will be 100% repaired, but you will have to pay a fairly large amount for this, or try to find a solution to the problem on your own by simply reflashing the gadget. The same method is most often used by service center specialists. There is no need to be afraid to carry out flashing on your own, since it is not as difficult and time-consuming as it seems at first glance.

Flashing an iPhone is restoring the phone to a working state. You should pay attention to the fact that flashing will lead to the loss of all information from the phone.

Before starting the procedure, if the gadget is in working order, you need to connect it to the PC and create a backup copy. You should copy personal photos, videos, and audio materials to your hard drive, because flashing the device will result in it returning to factory settings and being completely clean.

You should also take into account the fact that regardless of the iPhone variation, be it 3, 4s or 5s, the flashing procedure is carried out identically in all cases. Therefore, you don’t need to worry about the instructions not matching your phone, you just need to carefully and clearly follow the steps described.

Below we will discuss in detail the firmware procedure using the iPhone 4s as an example.

Preparatory actions

Even before starting the operation in question, the subscriber needs to download the firmware with the .ipsw extension. For a specific iPhone model, there is a corresponding version.

It is very easy to determine which version is needed for a particular smartphone. The firmware files contain the device version (iPhone 3, 4s, 6), as well as its model itself, which is an alphanumeric combination located on the back of the gadget below the logo.

The main difficulty in selecting the firmware version according to the model is that there are GSM and CDMA models of Apple devices. Their difference lies in the fact that these devices operate in different cellular networks. Firmware for GSM iPhone 4s will not work for iPhone 4s on CDMA.

After determining the model of your personal device, you need to download the necessary firmware. Each subscriber can choose the latest version of iOS, or, if he doesn’t like it, he can download a slightly outdated one that was previously on the smartphone. The main condition is that the old version, which is downloaded again, must be signed by Apple.

Also, before updating, the subscriber must turn off the option called “Find iPhone”. Otherwise, it will not be possible to reflash the iPhone 4s, since this function interferes with the procedure in question, therefore, iTunes will throw an error.

In addition, it is better to make sure once again that the latest version of iTunes is installed on your smartphone; to do this, you just need to launch the program. If a new version is available, the program will automatically notify you about it and will be able to update. Having completed all the preparatory steps, you can safely proceed to the flashing process itself.

Flashing procedure

In general, to solve the problem in question, iPhone 4s owners are offered two options, each of which is absolutely valid, effective, and also allows you to restore your smartphone quite easily and quickly:

  1. With help
  2. Via DFUmode.

The first option is a disaster recovery mode. Most often, it is used to restore the functionality of iOS gadgets after the moment when their proper functioning began to fail.

The second method is practically no different from the first. The only difference is that the procedure is carried out directly using firmware, bypassing the iPhone operating system. Often this method is used when the device is jailbroken or when flashing using the first method is impossible.

Flashing using RecoveryMode

To carry out the operation using this method, the subscriber should turn off the iPhone and wait until the smartphone screen goes completely dark. Then you need to connect it to the computer while holding the Home button. The PC will accept the device in RecoveryMode.

Subsequent steps must be performed in this order.

You need to launch iTunes and wait until the program finds the iPhone; there are two options:

  • iTunes will prompt the user to restore the connected device. In this case, click OK.

  • iTunes is completely unresponsive. Then you should click on the phone icon, find the item called “”, after which you need to select it while holding down the Shift button (if you are using the Windows operating system) or Alt (when you are using the Mac operating system).

Next, the File Manager will open, where the subscriber will need to select the firmware. You need to find a file that contains the firmware downloaded before the operation began. Then you need to select it and click the “Open” button.

After this, the program will do everything on its own; you just need to wait for the process to complete. Once completed, the device must be disconnected from the computer. Then you need to turn off the phone by holding down the Power button. After that, by pressing the same button again, you need to turn on the smartphone. That's all, absolutely all iPhone settings have been corrected, and it is ready for further use.

Flashing using DFUmode

Even before the process under consideration begins, the smartphone must be switched to DFUmode. Then you need to connect the phone to the computer and turn it off. After this, on the device you need to simultaneously hold down the Home and Power buttons and count ten seconds, after which you need to release the Power key and continue to hold Home until the iTunes program recognizes the smartphone you are setting up in DFU mode.

Subsequent actions must be performed in strict sequence, and they are almost completely identical, as in the case of RecoveryMode:

  1. First you need to select the required device in the program.
  2. In the phone manual menu, you need to find the “Restore iPhone” item.
  3. After that, you need to select it by pressing the Shift button (if you are using the Windows operating system) or Alt (when you are using the Mac operating system).
  4. In the window that opens as a result, you need to specify the path to the file with the previously downloaded firmware, and then click on the “Open” button.
  5. After completing the actions, the subscriber needs to wait until the program completes the ongoing procedure.
  6. All that remains is to turn on the restored smartphone, after which you can absolutely calmly and confidently use a completely working iPhone 4s.

The considered solution to the problem will be useful to those subscribers who installed Jailbreak on their own device, or due to certain reasons, flashing it in RecoveryMode did not lead to success.

Each of the flashing options considered is absolutely valid and should help solve the problem in question. The subscriber does not need to be afraid to carry out this process independently, since there is nothing complicated about it. You just need to have the slightest skills in using a smartphone and be extremely careful. Actions must be performed in strict sequence, and then a successful ending is guaranteed. The main advantage of the process is that you do not need to spend any money, as if it happened at a service center. Despite this, a person receives a phone with almost the worst settings provided by the gadget service center. But if you still doubt your abilities, or for some reason you were unable to achieve your goal, then it is better to seek professional help or at least specialist advice. This can be done in almost every district of any city in the country.

Why you suddenly decided to reflash your iPhone 5s, iPhone 4s, iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPhone 4, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, iPhone SE, iPhone 3gs or another, now is not the time to find out.

There are many reasons: your iPhone may be blocked, found, and so on. The main thing here is calmness and the right approach - so I will describe everything step by step.

From the first lines I also want to reassure you, if something goes wrong, for example, the files are unpacked and the installation does not work, do not panic.

You just have to go to a service center, where this process will be completed using more advanced tools.

Reflashing the service is not expensive - depending on the region, it ranges from 5 to 10 dollars.

The main goal of this post is how to reflash an American iPhone, although I think I will also write about a Chinese device.

Step one is to completely reflash any iPhone yourself at home

To reflash any iPhone, you definitely need the firmware you want to install.

Where can I get it? Below there are two sites from where you can download any official firmware, just be sure to find out the exact name of your iPhone and select the appropriate firmware.

  • https://www.apple-iphone.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5135
  • https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=164173

By the way, if you, for example, have an iPhone 5, then there are several firmwares for it - I recommend choosing the latest 10.3.3 right away and paying special attention to GSM and CDMA modifications (if, for example, a phone with a CDMA connection, then GSM will not install).

Don’t even try to install iOS 11 firmware on iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s - it won’t run it because of the processor installed in it.

Step two is to reflash the iPhone yourself via a computer, via iTunes

As you have already noticed, you will need a computer (laptop) and a cable to connect the PC to the iPhone. I think you have it.

Then, if not yet, install and connect the computer to the phone, but do not turn it on, unless you want to make a copy, which will never hurt for recovery if the flashing fails.

It is advisable to place the downloaded iOS on the computer desktop so as not to search for a long time, although this does not affect the process itself, no matter where it is located.

We have completed the initial stage, we are moving on to the second - setting up the iPhone for flashing.

Since I already mentioned iPhone 5 above, I will use it as an example, and on other devices such as iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 7, and so on, everything happens the same way, except for entering DFU mode.

Step three - reflash the iPhone yourself

ATTENTION: be sure to charge the battery 100%, otherwise you may greatly regret it (if the battery does not hold up, you will have to open the device).

NOTE: Before flashing the firmware, be sure to disable the Find My iPhone feature.

Now to flash the firmware you will need to enter Recovery Mode or DFU on your iPhone. If one doesn't work, use the other.

To use Recovery Mode, turn off your iPhone completely, then connect it with a cable to your computer or laptop while holding the Home button.

Now launch the iTunes program and wait until iTunes finds the iPhone. If the “Restore” window appears, click “OK”.

If the message does not appear, select “Restore iPhone” while holding down the Shift key.

A window will appear in which you need to indicate where the firmware is located. We indicate the firmware file, which you should have already downloaded, and I recommended that you install it on your desktop. Select and click “Open”.

This is where your intervention stops - iTunes will do everything itself. At the final stage, disconnect the cable and turn on the iPhone as usual.

I hope the flashing was successful, and if not, it’s certainly sad, but there is another option - through DFU.

Step four - reflash the iPhone yourself via dfu

To do this, first connect the device to your computer. Second, turn off the device.

Hold the Power button for 3 seconds, then press the Home button without releasing the Power button for 10 seconds.

Release the Power button, but continue to hold the Home button until iTunes notifies you that it has detected the device in recovery mode.

Further actions are the same as when flashing via Recovery Mode.

NOTE: There is no home button on the iPhone 7. Therefore, after connecting, press and hold the “Power” button and without releasing it, hold down “Volume Down” and hold both buttons for 10 seconds. If the logo appears (picture below), it means you held the buttons too long - repeat the process.

If the display remains black and iTunes shows a message saying that it has detected a device in recovery mode, then you have put your iPhone into DFU mode.

Use this method if flashing via Recovery Mode did not work for some reason.

How to reflash a found or locked iPhone

A blocked or found iPhone can be reset in the same way as described above. Only a very unpleasant surprise, and possibly a tragic one, may await you.

The fact is that in a locked iPhone (locking restrictions is not taken into account - it can be easily removed) the “Find My iPhone” function can be enabled, and without knowing your account information and ID, you will not be able to disable it.

Even services refuse to accept such devices for flashing. An official service center can disable this service, but they will require documents to confirm that this is your phone, and this service is not free.

How to reflash an iPhone without a computer and without iTunes

It is not possible to reflash an iPhone without iTunes, that is, using phone tools - you can only update the device using iCloud storage, or rather restore it, if of course a copy is stored there.

To do this, you will definitely need Internet access, preferably via Wi-Fi, since a large amount of data will be transferred and it is better if it is high-speed.

It’s even more impossible to reflash without a computer - all this is done for security purposes. You can also restore an iPhone without iTunes using the CopyTrans Shelbee program.

It is also able to store data and subsequently move it to the iPhone (you need to create a backup file with contacts, messages, photos, videos, settings, and so on)

How to reflash a Chinese iPhone

The Chinese are known to counterfeit everything in sight - including iPhones. According to Apple, they are violating the patent by copying the case design.

Their copies look so similar that consumers may not see the difference, but this is only in appearance - inside they use Android developments, only the firmware itself is installed from an iPhone.

Before flashing a Chinese iPhone, you first need to choose the right one - this is very important.

After clicking “Open”, select “Download” and connect the phone to the computer using a cable while holding down the “Home” button on the phone.

When you see a red line in the program, release the Home key. After this, a purple line will appear, and then a yellow one, which will indicate the start of flashing.

When finished, you will see a message that the firmware was successfully installed. Now turn everything off and start your Chinese iPhone. Good luck.

This is the procedure by which software is installed on the gadget. Flashing an iPhone does not always mean updating it to the latest version of iOS. Among the owners of Apple gadgets there are a lot of conservatives who want to continue using the 5th or 6th versions of the operating system, considering them the most successful. These users have the opportunity to download software that suits them to their iPhone.

The owner of the gadget must know how to reflash the iPhone on his own - otherwise, after each new version of iOS is released, he will have to seek help from salon consultants who set exorbitant prices for iPhone-related services. This article will tell you how to change the firmware correctly.

Flashing can be one of two types - recovery And update.

  • After recovery you will receive a “clean” iPhone, without content and with the same version of the operating system as it was originally (or the one you choose yourself).
  • After updates the latest version of the operating system will be installed on your gadget, and all data will remain in place.

Apple does not allow you to downgrade your operating system. If you installed, say, iOS 7, then you will no longer be able to return to iOS 5 using standard means.

It is also impossible to return from a beta version of the firmware to the latest official one.

This rule has an exception: within 2 weeks after the release of the new iOS, a “window” is open - users have the right to “roll back” to the previous version of the software if they do not like the new one. In addition, they can use unofficial software tools such as RedSnOw or Tiny Umbrella, however, these programs only work on “old” versions of the iPhone.

Preparatory actions

Before you start flashing your iPhone, you need to do the following:

Download the firmware to your computer. Finding a source site from which you can download the firmware is as easy as shelling pears: upon request, the search engine will return dozens of such sites. But you need to choose the firmware carefully - pay attention to the following criteria:

  • Modification of iPhone (4, 4S, 5S and so on).
  • Communication standard. While searching for firmware, you will notice that on specialized sites the firmware files are divided into two blocks: GSM And CDMA. 99% you need GSM firmware! CDMA iPhones have a clear distinguishing feature: the absence of a SIM card tray. CDMA iPhones are programmed to work with just one operator - therefore their cost is much lower. Another thing is that you won’t find CDMA iPhones on the Russian market - these can only be ordered from the USA or China.
  • iPhone model. The model is a set of letters and numbers - it is indicated on the back of the device and on the packaging.

Image: 4apple.org

Knowing all this data, you definitely won’t “miss” with the choice of firmware.

Download and install the latest versioniTunes . It is recommended to use the official Apple website - follow this link. At the time of writing, the newest version is iTunes 12.5.1 .

Disable the Find My iPhone feature on your smartphone. Follow the path " Settings» — « iCloud" and deactivate the toggle switch opposite " Find iPhone" If this feature remains enabled, iTunes It simply will not be able to flash the firmware and will generate an error.

Copy personal data from iPhone to another storage device. During the flashing process, data may be lost.

How to flash an iPhone via iTunes yourself?

Reflash your iPhone like this:

Step 1. Connect the gadget to the PC with a cable and open iTunes.

Step 2. Go to the gadget management page - to do this, click on the button with the image of a smartphone.

Step 3. Press the " Shift" and press " Restore iPhone..."(on Mac computers instead of " Shift"clamps" Alt»).

A window will appear through which you need to find and select the firmware loaded into the computer’s memory. The firmware file has the format IPSW.

If you have downloaded firmware that is not suitable for a particular gadget, the program will display the following unfriendly notification:

Step 4. Confirm that you want to reflash your iPhone - click " Update" in this window:

No further action is needed - iTunes will delete the content and install the firmware. The gadget will go into mode Recovery Mode, and its settings will be reset to their original settings.

You can avoid searching for suitable firmware on your own by entrusting this matter to iTunes. However, the program will 100% install the latest available operating system on the gadget, and not the one currently installed on the iPhone.

If you are happy with this, then in step 3 you can simply click “ Restore iPhone...", without holding down any buttons on the keyboard.

How to restore a jailbroken iPhone?

If your iPhone is jailbroken, it is recommended to reflash the gadget via “ DFU MODE" (mode DFU). It is also worth turning to this method if restoring the iPhone according to the previous scenario (via Recovery Mode) for some reason did not produce results.

Step 1. Enter the smartphone into mode DFU: simultaneously press and hold the "" button for 10 seconds Home" And " Power", then release " Power».

Step 2. Connect the device to the computer with a cable. After that iTunes should display a message like this:

Upon completion of the procedure, exit the smartphone from DFU mode: press " Home» + « Power" and wait until the treasured bitten apple appears on the screen.

How to update iPhone?

You can update your iPhone in two ways: via iTunes And "by air"(that is, via Wi-Fi).

Updating iPhone via iTunes

Update procedure via iTunes is similar to the procedure for restoring an iPhone - you need to do this:

Step 1. Connect the gadget to the PC, in iTunes go to the device management menu.

Step 2. Click Not " Restore iPhone...", A " Update» - button located nearby.

If you see such a window, it means that the latest version of the software is already installed on your smartphone or the last of those that this particular model is capable of “pulling”.

For example, the device was used iPhone 4: iOS 7.1.2 is the maximum that can be installed for this modification.

If you have the firmware file, there is no need to wait for iTunes to download it. Through the combination " Shift» + « Update» Locate the file in your PC memory.

Step 3. Wait for the procedure to complete and enjoy the new software from Apple. Settings and data will remain in place.

Updating iPhone via Wi-Fi

The ability to update over the air first appeared on devices with iOS 5.

Updating over 2G and 3G connections is not possible because the bandwidth of mobile connections is too low.

To update iOS via Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

Step 1. Activate Wi-Fi on your device - swipe up and down to bring up the Control Center panel ( Control Center) and on this panel click on the Wi-Fi icon.

Step 2. Go to " Settings", go to the Wi-Fi section and connect to an available network in the block " Select network..."

Step 3. Return to " Settings" and go to " Basic».

Step 4. From the section " Basic"proceed to the subsection " Software Update».

Step 5. Wait until the update check finishes. If the iPhone finds a newer version of the operating system than the one currently installed on your device, you will see this picture:

Click " Download and install" - this is how you will launch the update over the air. If your iPhone already has the latest version of iOS, you will see a message like this:

Do not update your jailbroken iPhone - it can lead to dire consequences!

The gadget will end up in the so-called “eternal apple” mode or fall into a “loop” in recovery mode. The problem lies in the fact that Jailbreak for the new version of the iOS operating system appears with a significant delay - it turns out that the iPhone is updated “to nowhere.” To flash jailbroken Apple gadgets, you should only use the " Restore iPhone..."

Conclusion

Owners of non-jailbroken iPhones should not have any problems with flashing the firmware - the user’s task is to connect the smartphone to the PC and press just one button, and then iTunes will do everything himself. But owners of gadgets with jailbreak are advised to be careful: in order not to lose the jailbreak, it is better not to use iTunes, and special software like the program Semi Restore.

Flashing iPhone 6 firmware is an operation that is necessary for any device sooner or later. But not all owners of Apple gadgets know what it is. Of course, everyone has encountered system recovery and updating. But not everyone knows that these actions are called firmware.

In fact, there is nothing complicated about the firmware. There are several ways to carry out this procedure. And almost always the user wonders whether it is possible to do it himself. Absolutely yes. But if you don’t want to tinker, you can take the device to a service center. As a rule, in workshops, firmware is one of the standard services. But why spend money if you can do everything yourself and save money? How to restore or update an iPhone 6 - read our instructions.

Choose one of the flashing methods that suits you best and get started. If you do everything right, success is guaranteed. The only thing is that if errors appear during the operation, it is better to turn to professionals.

First, a little theory. Let us repeat once again that by firmware we mean either restoring or updating the system. The first is necessary to return the device to its original (factory) settings. The second is to install the “fresh” version of iOS.

Typically, flashing an iPhone is required in the following situations:

  • When problems with the operating system began to appear.
  • If the current version of iOS is not the newest, and a newer one has already been released.
  • If necessary, completely erase all information from the gadget’s memory. This may be necessary when you plan to sell the phone to another owner.

Based on the essence of the recovery and update procedures, it becomes clear that they are completely different. During the first process, all data is deleted. In the second case, they are saved.

If we talk about firmware methods, the following are most often used:

  • iTunes utility.
  • Downloading iOS updates via Wi-Fi.

The first method will help the user in any situation. First, the “fresh” version of the operating system is downloaded to a laptop or PC, and after that it is transferred to the iPhone, and installation is done.

And when using Wi-Fi, everything is banal: a simple iOS update occurs by downloading the “fresh” version via the network.

What modes does the iPhone work in?

Mobile gadgets from Apple operate in the following modes:

  • Normal.
  • Recovery mode.
  • Update mode.

The first mode is the normal state of the phone. Recovery (Recovery Mode) involves flashing via backup or iTunes to the latest version.

To enter the device into this mode you need:

  • Connect your iPhone to your laptop or PC using a USB cable.
  • Turn off your phone.
  • Turn on the device again and do not release the power button until the screen starts working.

The mode will turn on, but in this case the OS will not load into the gadget, and all data will be transferred through the cable. This operation will restore all device settings.

In update mode (DFU), the screen may be black or white. When you connect your iPhone to a computer device, the latter will automatically detect it. A message will appear on the display that the iOS device has been detected by the system.

To enter your iPhone into DFU mode, you need to take the following steps:

  • Connect the device to a laptop or PC using a USB cable.
  • Press the Power and Home buttons (both at once).
  • Release the first button while continuing to press the second.
  • Wait for the gadget to enter DFU mode.

How to reflash iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S?

Let's move on to a detailed description of the firmware methods most common among iPhone owners. The main recovery and update methods were briefly mentioned above. Now let’s take a step-by-step look at what each of them means.

So, there are 2 main methods - through the iTunes utility and using Wi-Fi.

The first method is based on downloading software components to a laptop or PC. And then the data is transferred to the iPhone with subsequent installation. This method is suitable for devices with iOS version 4.3.5 and older. For operating systems version 5 and higher, the method using Wi-Fi is more often used.

How to flash iPhone 6 via iTunes

To restore a gadget through this utility, we will need:

  • The latest version of iTunes installed on your PC.
  • The firmware file that is on the device at the time of the operation. Although this is not necessary, it is highly advisable to save time later.

After preparation, you can begin the recovery operation itself. The sequence of actions should be as follows:

  • Disable the iPhone search function (if it was activated).
  • Connecting the device to the computer via a USB cable.
  • Launch the iTunes utility (usually the program starts automatically when an iOS device is detected).
  • Go to synchronization settings.
  • Press and hold the Shift key while pressing the recovery button.

After the 5th step, the operation will begin. The iTunes program will download the “fresh” version of iOS. And after that, the utility will install it on the mobile device. The iPhone will be in Recovery Mode during the process. The phone's memory will return to its original state upon completion of the operation. All user information will be erased.

We perform firmware via Recovery Mode and DFU

When using these methods, everything happens almost the same as when working with the iTunes utility. Only, perhaps, here the process takes longer, since before it you first need to enter the phone into one of the named modes. In turn, to do this you need:

  • Enter the device into Recovery Mode or DFU.
  • Connect the device to a PC or laptop via a USB cable.
  • Launch the iTunes utility, which will automatically detect the iPhone in recovery mode.
  • Open the firmware file prepared in advance.
  • Wait for the operation to complete.

How to update iPhone: methods

Updating the operating system on an iPhone is possible through the iTunes utility. You can also do this by downloading program components wirelessly via Wi-Fi.

The first method is similar to the restore operation. The second will allow the user to update iOS to the most current version. Using Wi-Fi is convenient because it is a wireless method that does not require connecting the gadget to a PC.

In order to update your Apple device via iTunes, you need to follow this algorithm:

  • Connect your iPhone via a USB cable to your computer device.
  • Open iTunes.
  • Go to the device and click on the name of the desired gadget model.

Update iPhone 6 over Wi-Fi

Since the advent and implementation of iOS version 5, users of Apple gadgets have the opportunity to update devices via Wi-Fi. Devices with such an operating system (and with versions higher than 5) have an iOS update section. Now it is possible to carry out the entire procedure directly through the device interface.

But the operation can be performed in this way only if there is a working Wi-Fi connection. Unfortunately, this is impossible to do via mobile networks - 2G or 3G.

The list of steps to update an iPhone via Wi-Fi includes only 2 steps:

1 The user must enter the basic settings of his device, and then select the option to update the software. 2 Select download and installation, accept all conditions proposed by the system, and wait for the operation to complete.

Finally, let us remind you that during the gadget update operation, not a single file with information will disappear. All content and settings will be saved in their original form - as they were before the procedure began. But keep in mind that for locked phones this operation can be fatal. There is a danger that during the update all the data the user needs will be erased. Therefore, it is highly not recommended to update on locked devices.

So, flashing iPhone 6 firmware is a simple procedure, accessible even to an inexperienced user. In most cases, there is no need to contact the service to carry it out. By doing everything yourself, the owner of the device will save time and money.
