Where to throw shapes for Photoshop cs6. How to Create Freeform Shapes or Shapes in Photoshop

This tutorial will help you install new shapes for the version of Photoshop.

Note: screenshots of the operating room Windows systems 10, Photoshop CC 2017. For others Photoshop versions the algorithm will be the same.

Open Set Management

To get started, download the file with the new figures from the Internet and unzip it if it is zipped.

Next, open Photoshop CS6 and go to the main menu at the top of the screen to the tab Editing -Sets- Set management(Edit - Preset Manager). The following window will appear:

Button below the number 1 (in the form of a small arrow) allows you to select the type of add-on you want to install - brushes, textures, shapes, styles etc.

Button below the number 2 (in the form of a gear) shows the types of addition.

Loading Shapes into Photoshop

Click on the small black arrow and from the list that appears, by pressing the left mouse button, select the type of add-on - Custom figures(Custom Shapes):

A new window appears. Here you indicate the address of the downloaded file with figures. This file is located on your desktop or placed in special folder for downloaded add-ons. In my case, the file is located in the "Styles" folder on the desktop:

Press again Download(Load)

Now, in the Manage Sets dialog box, you can see at the end of the shape set the new shapes we just loaded:

Note : If there are many shapes, move the scroll bar down and new shapes will be visible at the end of the list

That's all, Photoshop program copied the specified file with shapes to your set. You can use it!

Open Photoshop and click on the "Edit" button in the main menu. From the drop-down list, select “Manage Sets”. A dialog box will open in front of you, in the upper part you will see a scrolling list “Type of installation”, intended for selecting the add-on that needs to be installed. These can be brushes, textures, styles and other elements.

Select the add-on type “Custom Shapes” and click on the “Download” button located on the right side of the window. Using Explorer, point the program to the path to the desired file. It must have a csh extension. Click on the "Download" button again. The new set will be added to the existing ones, and you can use it at any time.

If, while working with the Custom Shapes tool, you need to quickly load new set, then in the shapes palette, click on the small icon with the image of a gear and select “Load shapes” from the drop-down list. An explorer window will appear on the screen. Find in it required file and click on the “Download” button. The set will automatically be added to the very end of the existing list.

You can install a new set of shapes without opening Photoshop. To do this, copy the file with the csh extension to the Custom Shapes folder. It is located at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Presets\Custom Shapes. The advantage of this method is that the added set will be available for selection through the Shapes palette menu.

How to Save a Vector Drawing as a Shape

If you have a vector image that you plan to use frequently, you can save it as a freeform shape in Photoshop. To do this, select the “Place” command from the “File” menu. IN latest version program - Photoshop CC, select the “Place Built-in” command.

Holding Ctrl key, click on the layer thumbnail to load the drawing as a selection. Now you need to save the created selection as an outline. To do this, open the “Paths” palette and click on the “Create work path” icon located at the bottom.

In the main menu of Photoshop, click on the "Edit" button and select the "Define Free Shape" command. A small window will open on the screen, enter the name of the created shape in it and click OK. From now on, your drawing is available for selection in the Shapes Palette.

Greetings to the conquerors of Photoshop! Today we will talk about such an interesting Photoshop tool as arbitrary figures. Free-form shapes are rarely used in Photoshop; various brushes are more often used. But still, the “Free Shape” tool is included in the program and finds its application.

Where arbitrary figures “lie”

You can select it on the main toolbar in the section where there is a rectangle, ellipse, polygon and line. To select the desired tool, use the keyboard shortcuts Shift+U several times.

There are quite a lot of settings on the tool’s auxiliary panel, but it’s best to start working with the tool from the “Shapes” drop-down window, in which you can select any of the proposed arbitrary shapes and start drawing it.

After selecting a shape, click the left mouse button anywhere on the image and move the cursor, without releasing the button, in any direction. You will see how the outline of the selected shape appears, which changes in size and thickness, depending on the movement of the mouse.

The resulting figure does not lose its quality depending on the size of the picture. Initially, an arbitrary figure does not have an outline and color, but they can be selected on additional panel instrument settings. In this case, the contour can be either a solid line or a broken dotted line, the intensity of which is indicated next to it.

If you select an arbitrary shape and simply click the left mouse button in the place where it is drawn, a window will pop up where you need to enter the parameters for the height and width of the stamp. For ease of editing, each new arbitrary shape is created on a new layer.

How to load custom shapes into Photoshop

You can create similar figures for use yourself, for this you can use vector images, preferably good quality. Also, the Internet is full of already made thematic collections; you just need to download and install them. All installation files have the extension . In the drop-down window where the outline of the figure is selected, there is a small button that opens the settings.

There you need to select the line “Load figures...” and find the required file. New shapes will appear at the end of the list.

If you want to replace existing shapes with new ones, select the "Replace Shapes..." command. The selected file will replace the current shapes. You can always roll back initial settings using the "Restore Shapes..." command

If you want to keep the selected shapes forever, copy the file to system folder Photoshop at this address: “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets\Custom Shapes”

That's all!
Sincerely, Ul Sartakov.

Photoshop is raster editor images, but its functionality also includes the ability to create vector shapes. Vector shapes consist of primitives (points and lines) and fill. In fact it's vector outline, filled with some color.

Saving such images is only possible in raster formats, but, if required, the working document can be exported to vector editor, For example, .

The tools for creating vector shapes are located in the same place as all other tools - on the toolbar. If you want to become a real professional, then hotkey calling any of these tools - U.

This includes Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle, Ellipse, Polygon, Free Shape, and Line. All these tools perform one function: they create a work path consisting of anchor points and fill it with the main color.

As you can see, there are quite a lot of tools. Let's talk about everyone briefly.

  1. Rectangle.
With the help of this instrument we can draw a rectangle or square (with the key pressed SHIFT).

  2. Rectangle with rounded corners.
This tool, as the name suggests, helps to draw the same figure, but with rounded corners.

The fillet radius is preset in the options bar.

  3. Ellipse.
Using a tool "Ellipse" circles and ovals are created.

  4. Polygon.
Tool "Polygon" allows us to draw polygons with a given number of angles.

The number of corners is also adjustable in the options bar. Please note that the setting contains the parameter "Parties". Don't let this fact mislead you.

  5. Line.
With this tool we can draw a straight line in any direction. Key SHIFT V in this case allows you to draw lines at 90 or 45 degrees relative to the canvas.

The line thickness is adjusted in the same place - in the parameters panel.

  6. Any figure.
Tool "Free figure" gives us the ability to create shapes free form, contained in a set of shapes.

A standard Photoshop set containing arbitrary shapes can also be found at top panel instrument settings.

IN this set You can add shapes downloaded from the Internet.

General Tool Settings

As we already know, most of the shape settings are found in the top options bar. The settings below apply equally to all instruments in the group.

The following settings allow you to perform various, rather complex, manipulations with figures, so let's talk about them in more detail.

Shape Manipulation

These manipulations are possible only if at least one shape is already present on the canvas (layer). Below it will become clear why this happens.

This item allows, after performing one or more previous operations, to combine all the contours into one solid figure.

Practice

The practical part of today's lesson will be a set of chaotic actions aimed only at seeing how the tool settings work in action. This will already be enough to understand the principles of working with figures.

So, practice.

1. First, let's create a regular square. To do this, select a tool "Rectangle", hold down the key SHIFT and pull from the center of the canvas. You can use guides for ease of use.

2. Then select a tool "Ellipse" and settings item "Subtract front figure". Now we will cut out a circle in our square.

3. Click once on any place on the canvas and, in the dialog box that opens, enter the dimensions of the future “hole”, and also check the box next to the item "From the center". The circle will be created exactly in the center of the canvas.

4. Click OK and we see the following:

The hole is ready.

5. Next we need to combine all the components, creating a solid figure. To do this, select the appropriate item in the settings. In this case, this is not necessary, but if the circle extended beyond the boundaries of the square, our figure would consist of two working contours.

6. Change the color of the figure. From the lesson we know which setting is responsible for filling. There is another, faster and more practical way to change colors. You need to double-click on the thumbnail of the layer with the shape and, in the color settings window, select the desired shade. In this way you can fill the shape with any solid color.

Accordingly, if required gradient fill or pattern, then use the parameters panel.

7. Let's set the stroke. To do this, let's look at the block "Hatch" in the options panel. Here we select the stroke type "Dotted line" and use the slider to change its size.

8. Set the color of the dotted line by clicking on the adjacent color box.

9. Now, if you completely turn off the shape fill,

Then you can see the following picture:

Thus, we went through almost all the settings of the instruments from the group "Figure". Be sure to practice by modeling various situations to understand what laws raster objects obey in Photoshop.

The figures are notable for the fact that, unlike their raster counterparts, they do not lose quality and do not acquire torn edges when scaled. However, they have the same properties and can be processed. You can apply styles to shapes, fill them in any way, and create new shapes by combining and subtracting.

Skills in working with shapes are indispensable when creating logos, various elements for websites and printing. Using these tools, you can convert raster elements into vector ones and then export them to the appropriate editor.

Figures can be downloaded from the Internet, or you can create your own. Using shapes you can draw huge posters and signs. In general, the usefulness of these tools is very difficult to overestimate, so pay attention Special attention learning this functionality of Photoshop, and they will help you with this.

This tutorial will help you install new shapes for the version of Photoshop.
