How to install the system with. How to install an operating system on a new computer

This article describes how to install or reinstall Windows 7.

Before installation begins, you need to complete several preparatory steps. At the beginning of the article we have placed detailed content so that you can quickly view the entire sequence of actions and move on to the necessary part of the instructions.

If you are interested in a specific question (such as installation errors, how to enter and configure the BIOS, etc.), the links in the content will take you directly to it.

If you are a beginner, then simply follow the guide from start to finish: each point is described in as much detail as possible and includes links to supporting instructions.

What should be ready before installation

Review the list below to ensure your computer and system are ready to install or reinstall Windows 7 and follow the steps required to complete the preparations.

What types of installation are there, how to save personal files and programs

There are two types of installation:
  • A complete reinstallation of the operating system (OS), which completely erases a hard drive partition (or the entire drive), including all your programs, documents and files.
  • An OS update that only updates system files.
Updating the OS has a number of disadvantages. Therefore, it is recommended to perform a complete reinstallation of the system, and for this you will need to save all personal files and program settings.

If you haven't done this yet, read the article on preparing for installation, from it you will learn:

  • how to save all important personal data;
  • what programs will be needed immediately after installation and where to download them;
  • Is it possible to copy installed drivers, where can I find the drivers after installation;
  • analysis of some special cases;
Save all data and proceed to the next step.

How to legally download the original image of Windows 7 x64 or x32 for free.

Download original image can be done legally using the program "Windows ISO Downloader": the file with the Windows image will be downloaded with official Microsoft website.

Program file "Windows ISO Downloader" with version 5.21 (dated September 20, 2017) is attached to the article (to the right of this text).
How to download the image correctly is shown in the figure below:

Select the Windows 7 partition, then the desired edition of the Windows 7 image and the “Confirm” button.

Attention!
We strongly we do not recommend use Windows 7 builds - use only original system images.

Microsoft has several aircraft hangars with a variety of equipment designed to test the operation of the operating system on various combinations of devices. Therefore, the official OS image works correctly for the vast majority of users.

The authors of assemblies do not have such testing capabilities, so a certain percentage of users will experience problems during the operation of the assembly, which can only be resolved by completely reinstalling Windows.

Which image version to choose: 32 bit or 64 bit

Everything is very simple: a 64-bit OS is needed in two cases: so that the computer can “see” 4GB or more of RAM and so that you can work with “heavy” programs or games. Attention!
Some new programs and games may not run on 32-bit Windows.
Conclusions:

  • If the amount of RAM is 4GB or more, feel free to choose x64 (64 bits).
  • If the computer is old and complex programs (for example, audio and video editors, design systems, multimedia packages) are not used, choose x32 (32 bits).
More information about the difference between a 32-bit and a 64-bit operating system is provided in this article.

The easiest way to see how much RAM you have is to right-click on the icon "My computer" → select item "Properties" in the context menu.

The window that opens will indicate the amount of RAM, as well as the bit capacity of the system currently installed.

Which version of Windows 7 should I choose: Home, Professional or Ultimate?

There are different versions (editions) of Windows 7, some of which differ greatly in functionality. You can read more about Windows versions.

Most often, when installing, they choose between versions of “ Professional " And " Ultimate ».
The best choice in terms of image version would be « Windows 7 Professional » .
But don’t worry if you have a different edition of Windows - the installation process will be similar.
In the edition " Professional " Unlike "Ultimate" there are a number of services that most users will never use.
You probably haven't even heard their names: DirectAccess, Unix Application Launch Subsystem, BranchCache, BitLocker, etc. Accordingly, hard disk space version « Professional » will take less.

How to properly burn an image to a DVD or USB flash drive?

If you have already recorded the image and the installation from it went smoothly, then you can immediately move on to the next chapter. If you don’t know which programs can be used to burn an image to a disk or flash drive, then the following auxiliary articles will help you: Please note that installation from a flash drive is more reliable and also faster. If you have a flash drive with a capacity of 4GB or more, then it is better to install from it.

Windows reinstallation process.

So, preparation for installation is complete: all personal data has been saved, the media with the operating system distribution has been created, and the partition on which the image will be installed has been prepared.

Setting boot device priority in BIOS

  1. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS.
    • on personal computers, buttons are most often used to enter the BIOS « DELETE» (« Del»), « F2", "F1", "Esc»
    • on laptops - keys « F8", "F9", "F12", "Esc»
  2. After going to the BIOS, you need to find the menu section responsible for installing devices to boot the OS.
The partition may be located in different places (depending on the type of motherboard and BIOS version), so you need to find the menu « FIRST BOOT DEVICE », « BOOT » or « BOOT DEVICE ».
  1. You need to go to this section of the menu and set the drive to first place DVD or HDD(your Flash drive) depending on what media the image was recorded on.
  2. After this, you need to exit the BIOS and save the changes.
Most often, to save changes, you need to press the key before exiting. « F 10" , and then confirm saving by pressing « Y » or by selecting « Yes » in the dialog box.
If you have difficulty entering the BIOS, saving changes, or finding boot device priority settings, then read the article about setting parameters in the BIOS.

In the article you will find instructions with examples:

  • how to enter BIOS or UEFI with examples of different BIOS screens.
  • how to find the option "BOOT DEVICA PRIORITY".
  • table with a list of keys for entering the BIOS on laptops from different manufacturers.

Autorun Windows installation from a DVD or flash drive

If you did everything correctly, then after restarting your computer you will see the following:

  • if you are using DVD media, you will see the message “Press any key to load from CD...” (press any key to boot from CD). You must immediately press any key, because after a short amount of time (about 10 seconds) the boot will begin from the next boot device installed in the BIOS.
  • if you used a flash drive, the installation will begin immediately
Remember!
When installing an operating system, you should be careful and careful with functions that you do not fully understand.
The site administration is not responsible for the results of your actions.

Start installation

Attention!
Your computer may have gray and blue USB connectors. If you are installing the OS from a flash drive, be sure to plug the flash drive into the connector USB2.0 (gray), otherwise the installer may not see it.
You can judge that the operating system installer has started working by the line that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Selecting the installation type

  • A system update will allow you to reinstall Windows on top of your existing operating system.
  • A full installation will allow you to select an existing partition for installation or re-partition the hard drive. The system will be installed completely, so this option is more acceptable (we wrote more about installation types at the beginning of the article).

Figure 5. Selecting the operating system installation type.
Choose "Full installation (advanced options)", as shown in Figure 5.

Figure 6. Selecting a hard drive for further installation Windows 7.

Hard disk partitions for system installation

After proceeding to the full installation, we will be presented with a list of hard drives on which we can create or select partitions for installation. At this step there may be several options for the development of events.

  • You only have one hard drive in your system.
  • You have a separate hard drive (possibly an SSD) where the operating system will be installed, and separate drives for storing data.
  • The installer does not see the hard drive or other errors occur (below are links to articles that discuss these problems step by step)
Attention!
If you have several hard drives, then transfer all important data to the drive where you will store personal files and disconnect it so as not to accidentally mix up the drives when creating partitions or formatting.
If you only have one hard drive (or SSD), then it is advisable to split it into parts (if the disk space allows it).

The disk must be divided into parts so that at least 50GB is allocated for the system, possibly even more, because For normal operation of Windows 7, it is desirable that there be at least 15-20% free space on the system partition.
The disk is divided into partitions to make it easier to reinstall the operating system in the future.

For example, you have only 1 hard drive in your computer with a capacity of 500GB.

You split it into 2 parts: 120GB (disk " C:") and 380GB (Disk " D)

Now on disk « D you store music, movies, photos, program installers, folders with drivers, games, etc., and on the disk « C you install programs to work.

Files from the Desktop and My Documents folders are also stored on the disk « C:». When in the future you want to reinstall Windows, you just need to transfer (copy) all important files from the desktop and other disk folders « C to disk « D, then do a complete reinstallation with disk formatting « C.
If the disk is not partitioned, then you will have nowhere to transfer data from the disk « C:», and you won't be able to format it.

Creating disk partitions

At this step, you can create partitions on your hard drive if:

  • the hard drive is not partitioned (new or all partitions were previously deleted);
  • There are no important files on the hard drive, and all information can be deleted.
The new hard drive is immediately displayed as a single partition and labeled as “unpartitioned” (see Figure 6).
If you are going to repartition the disk (and all important files have already been transferred from it), then you need to:
  1. Sequentially delete all partitions of your disk using the button "delete" . Attention! All files on these partitions will be deleted!
  2. Select the unallocated partition that appears with the mouse, click the button "Create" (See Figure 6).
  3. Specify the size first for the system partition (which will be the disk « C ), then create a partition for the disk « D (and other disks if necessary).
If the disk was not allocated, the OS installer will additionally create a 100MB partition to store special system files.

Selecting a partition for installation

If disk partitions have been created previously:

  1. Select the system partition (on which the OS was previously installed).
  2. Click on the button "Format".
  3. After formatting, select the erased partition and click on the button "Further".
If the installer does not see the hard drive, requires a device driver, or other problems occur, then search for and resolve your error using these two articles:
  • Analysis of various types of errors when installing Windows 7 (including by code).
  • What to do if the installer does not see the device (drive, hard drive, keyboard or mouse, etc.).
In Figure 6 you can see an unallocated 35 GB disk.

Figure 7. Creating a partition on the hard drive
In our case, no partition has been created yet, so we need to click on the button "Create" (Figure 7), then indicate the volume of the partition to be created (Figure 8) and click on the button "Apply" .

Figure 8. Selecting the volume for a partition on the hard drive

Figure 9. Partition creation confirmation window
After this, the operating system installer will inform you that an additional partition will be created to store system files:

Once the files are copied and unpacked, the computer will restart.

At this point, you must remove the DVD or Flash drive from the computer, as the installation will continue from the hard drive to which the necessary files were copied.

After the reboot, you will see a window indicating that the installation is complete.

The completion process will take a few minutes, after which the initial setup of the operating system will begin.

Completing Windows installation and initial setup

When the setup process comes to an end, you will be prompted to enter a user name to create your account, as well as a computer name for subsequent network identification (under this name your computer will be visible on Windows local networks).

Next, you will be prompted to enter a password and a password hint. If you want to protect access to your account with a password, enter it. Or you can skip this step by clicking the button "Further" .

In some cases, it is necessary to install the Windows 7 operating system on top of the same operating OS. For example, it makes sense to perform this operation when there are malfunctions in the system, but the user does not want to completely reinstall so as not to lose current settings, drivers or running programs. Let's figure out how this can be done.

Note: Without a significant reason, it is better not to install one OS over another, as there is a possibility that the problems of the old system will remain or even new ones may appear. However, there are many cases when, after installation using this method, the computer, on the contrary, begins to work more stably, without any failures, which means that in some situations these actions may be justified.

To complete the procedure, you must have an installation flash drive or disk with the system distribution. So, let's take a step-by-step look at the process of installing Windows 7 on a PC with an existing OS with the same name.

Step 1: Prepare your computer

First of all, you need to prepare your computer for installing a new OS on top of the existing Windows 7 in order to save all the important settings and prepare the PC to boot from the desired device.

Step 2: OS Installation

After the preparatory procedures have been completed, you can proceed to the actual installation of the OS.

  1. Insert the distribution disk into the drive or the installation flash drive into the USB connector and restart the PC. When you run it again, the installation program start window will open. Here, specify the language, time format and keyboard layout, depending on which initial settings will be more convenient for you to carry out the installation procedure. Then click "Further".
  2. In the next window, click on the big button "Install".
  3. Next, a window with license terms will open. Without accepting them, you will not be able to carry out further installation actions. Therefore, check the appropriate checkbox and click "Further".
  4. The installation type selection window will open. Under normal installation conditions on a clean hard drive partition, you should select the option "Full installation". But since we are installing the system on top of working Windows 7, in this case click on the inscription "Update".
  5. Next, a compatibility check procedure will be performed.
  6. After it is completed, a window with a compatibility check report will open. It will indicate which components of the current operating system will be affected by installing another Windows 7 on top of it. If you are satisfied with the result of the report, then in this case, click "Further" or "Close" to continue the installation procedure.
  7. Next, the process of installing the system, or more precisely, updating it, will begin. It will be divided into several procedures:
    • Copying;
    • Collection of files;
    • Unpacking;
    • Installation;
    • Transferring files and settings.

Each of these procedures will automatically follow one after the other, and their dynamics can be monitored using the percentage informer in the same window. In this case, the computer will restart several times, but user intervention is not required.

Step 3: Post-installation setup

After the installation is completed, you need to perform a series of steps to configure the system and enter the activation key so that you can work with it.

  1. First of all, the account creation window will open, where you must in the field "Username" enter the name of the main profile. This can be either the name of the account from the system on top of which the installation is performed, or a completely new option. In the lower field, enter the computer name, but unlike the profile, use only Latin letters and numbers. After that press "Further".
  2. Then a window for entering a password opens. Here, if you want to increase the security of the system, you must enter the password twice, following the generally accepted rules for choosing a code expression. If a password has already been set on the system on top of which the installation is being performed, then you can use it. A hint is entered in the very bottom field in case you forget the keyword. If you do not want to install this type of system protection, then just click "Further".
  3. A window will open where you will need to enter your product key. This step confuses some users who think that activation should automatically be pulled from the OS on which the installation is being made. But this is not so, so it is important not to lose this activation code left over from the time you purchased Windows 7. After entering the data, click "Further".
  4. After this, a window opens where you need to select the type of setting. If you do not understand all the intricacies of settings, we recommend choosing the option "Use recommended settings".
  5. Then a window opens where you need to configure the time zone, time and date settings. After entering the required parameters, click "Further".
  6. Finally, the network settings window opens. You can perform it immediately by entering the current parameters, or postpone it for the future by clicking "Further".
  7. After this, the installation and pre-configuration of the system on top of the existing Windows 7 will be completed. The standard one will open "Desktop", after which you can start using the computer for its intended purpose. In this case, the basic system settings, drivers and files will be saved, but various errors, if any, will be eliminated.

Installing Windows 7 on top of a working system with the same name is not much different from the standard installation method. The main difference is that when choosing the type of installation, you should choose the option "Update". In addition, there is no need to format the hard drive. Well, it is advisable to make a backup copy of the working OS before starting the procedure, this will help avoid any unexpected problems and provide the opportunity for subsequent recovery, if necessary.

Hello readers of my blog! Many people think that installing Windows is a complicated procedure, but in fact, everything is not that difficult and an experienced user can do it on their own.

Today I will tell you how to install and (or) reinstall Windows 7.

If you decide to reinstall Windows, then in addition you will have to reinstall all programs and drivers.

So, let's begin….

Part 1: Preparing to install Windows 7

Step #1. Backing up information

1. Before reinstalling the Windows 7 operating system, check how many disks you have on your computer (Icon: “ My computer"). The system is usually installed on the system drive [ C] (there should be a folder on it: “Windows”). During the reinstallation process, the disk [ C] will be formatted and all data on this disk will be deleted!

If you only have one disk, then you must copy to a flash drive, portable hard drive, or CD/DVD disc(s) all the information that is important to you! These are your documents, photographs, music, films, etc. (Folder: “My Documents”, Desktop, bookmarks of your Internet browser, your mail, etc.).

Or divide the disk into two logical drives (if free disk space on it allows) (but this is the topic of a separate article: “”)

If you have two or more disks, then copy all important data to other disks in your system (usually they are designated by letters: D, E, F, etc.), and you can also duplicate it on a flash drive, on a portable hard drive or to CD/DVD disc(s).

2. Find device driver discs for your computer or laptop. As a rule, such disks are supplied with a computer or laptop.

It is best to download the latest drivers for the motherboard chipset, video adapter, network card and other computer components from the websites of their manufacturers.

Well, if your system doesn’t work at all or Windows is being installed from scratch, you can use the driver assembly: . To do this, you need to download it and burn it to a DVD ±R disc (blank). (How to burn discs is described below...)

Step #2. Preparing a disk with Windows 7 distribution

If you already have a disk with a Windows 7 distribution, you can skip this step. If you don’t have it, then you need to burn it (ideally, purchase the original disc). If you download the Windows 7 distribution on the Internet, then look for pure MSDN builds of Windows 7. They will have the least problems.

To burn a disc with the Windows 7 distribution, we will need:

— Original disk image with Windows 7 in .iso format.

— Utility: “ ” for writing an image to disk (you can use other utilities for writing to disk);

— Blank DVD±R disc (blank).

First, install and run the utility downloaded from the link above:

(all pictures are clickable...)

On the menu " Create/burn disk image” select the item: “ Write downCD/DVD/Blue-ray disk from disk image”.

Click on the button: “ Review"and indicate where the Windows 7 image is located:

Insert a blank DVD±R disc into the drive. Press the button " Write downDVD»

Waiting for the disc to burn:

Here we go:

The Windows 7 distribution disk is ready!

Step #3. SettingsBIOS

In order for the boot disk to boot when you turn on the computer, you need to make the appropriate settings in BIOS.

Every time your computer turns on or reboots, the system boots in accordance with the BIOS settings.

Important BIOS parameters include determining the boot order of devices. This is what interests us. To do this, when you turn on (restart) the computer, you need to press a certain key. As a rule, when loading, at the bottom of the screen it is indicated which button to press to enter the BIOS. Usually these are F2, Del, Esc and others.

After entering the BIOS, you need to find where the boot order is configured. These settings are usually located in the “BOOT” tab, although they may be located in another BIOS menu on your computer. To change the boot order, the F5/F6, +- or arrow menus are usually used. How to change the boot order should also be indicated in the instructions or in the BIOS itself.

So, go to the BIOS and go to the “Boot” tab, then click on the “Boot Device Priority” tab. (Your Bios may be different, but the meaning is the same)…

Set your CD/DVD drive to first place in the boot list, save the settings and exit the BIOS. Usually, to do this, you need to find the “Save and Exit Setup” item in the BIOS.

Now that all preparations for installing Windows have been completed, and we are armed with a boot disk, we can proceed directly to Installing Windows 7

Part 2: Installing Windows 7

After all the preparations for installing Windows 7, we come to the most interesting part: installing Windows 7 itself.

When booting from a disk and this message appears, you need to press any key:

In the next window, select “ Windows installation”:

In the next window, the files for installing Windows 7 will begin to be copied. We wait a bit...

After the files are downloaded, the Windows 7 installer will launch, where we will select the interface language we need:

In this window we also select the system language and click the “ Further”:

In the next window, click on the “ Install”:

Important Note: Also in this window there is an item “ System Restore" If you need to restore Windows 7 or access the recovery console, then click on this item.

In the next window, select the version of Windows 7. Select the version for which you have the key. It is indicated on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop or computer case. You will enter the key in Windows 7 at the end of the installation. You don’t have to enter it right away, but within 30 days you will have to enter it in the Computer properties.

Agree to the License Agreement and click “ Further”:

In the next window you will need to select a partition to install Windows 7. Next, click “ Disk setup”:

The disk settings window will appear, in which you can delete, create and format disks. If you have two or more sections, place it on the first section. But first you need to format it, for which place the cursor on this partition and click “ Format”.

OK”:

Note: sometimes, especially on laptops, there are one or two hidden partitions (small, 100-300 MB each). DO NOT INSTALL Windows 7 on them.

If you have two or more sections (except for hidden sections), you can skip this paragraph...

If you have one section, then it is advisable to divide it into two, i.e. Install Windows7 on the first partition (for example, “C”), and install everything else (games, music, movies) on another drive (for example, “D”). To do this, press “ Delete", then " Create”.

Note: Please note that all data on this partition will be deleted!

In the next window, set the partition size and click “ Apply

Note: Set the size of the first partition for the system within the range of 40960-122880 MB (40-120 GB) (The partition size is not critical and can be varied by you)

The system will prompt you to create additional partitions for system files. We agree and click “ OK”:

So, we see that two partitions have been created, one is the main one, the other is reserved for system files. But there is still free space left on the disk, we will use it for another partition. Place the cursor on the line “ Unallocated disk space” and press “ Create”:

The installer will offer to use all remaining free space for the partition. We agree and click “ Apply”:

We see that we now have three partitions, including the system one. We will immediately format the third partition, and install Windows 7 on the second (the installer will then format it itself). So, let’s select “ Section 3” and click “ Format”:

A warning will appear that all data on the partition you are formatting will be deleted. Click “ OK”:

Now select “ Section 2” and click “ Further” to install Windows 7 on this partition:

The window “ InstallationWindows" We are waiting for the Windows components to install:

When the system is installed, enter the username and computer name:

In the next window, enter the password (optional) and click “ Further”:

If you have a license key for Windows 7 (if you have a laptop with Windows 7, it is printed on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop), then enter it here; if you don’t have it, just click “Next”.

Note: You don't have to enter the license key. You can use Windows without activation for up to 30 days. This counter can then be reset several times.

Specify the time zone, date and time:

In the next window, the system will automatically prompt you to specify the network type. Select the type of network connection:

That's all. Windows 7 installed:

In addition, you need to rewrite back all the information that you previously copied at the beginning of the article.

Also, after all the operations have been completed, you can make a disk image. In the event of a “crash” or system failure, you can return everything to its original state. I will describe how to do this in the article: “How to Backup a System

Hello, dear users!

Surely many of you are interested in how to quickly and without errors install the Windows 7 operating system on your computer using a boot disk. We can say in advance that this operation is much simpler than it might seem at first glance - in just a few minutes you will learn how to configure the BIOS boot loader to install the system from various media and perform initial OS setup.

Immediately after reading, you will easily install a fresh system on your PC - step-by-step installation of Windows 7 from a disk will become simple and as accessible as possible for you.

PREPARE THE LOADER

To ensure that when you turn on your computer, it starts to boot from the media on which the OS you need is installed, you need to correctly configure the bootloader. To do this, follow these simple steps:

1. Turn on your laptop, insert the disk into the drive, and then restart the device.

2. When the PC boots, press the key DEL. In different BIOS versions these may be keys F2 or F11.

3. In the window that appears, select the item called Boot, located in the top menu.

4. Select the position “Boot Device Priority” in the list that opens

5. In line 1 Boot Device— click Enter and select CD-ROM Drive - this is your media for Windows 7.

After setting up the BIOS menu, you must press the key F10 and confirm saving the actions. As soon as you do this, the device will reboot and the download process will begin, in other words, the installation begins.

INSTALLING OS ON PC

The Windows 7 installation program is designed in such a way that it does not cause problems for most people - this is facilitated by an intuitive interface and step-by-step structure. Despite this, you can get confused in some points, and to prevent this from happening, carefully study the presented order:

1. After booting your PC, wait until a black window appears with the words “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD.” To continue the process, press any key on the keyboard and wait for the OS files to load.

2 On the program page that opens, select the desired language, currency format, and keyboard layout (default parameters). After that, click on the “Next” button.

3. In the page that opens, select “Install”. If you are an advanced user who needs to restore the old OS rather than install a new one, pay attention to “System Restore”.

4. Select the Windows version in the next window, then confirm the action with the “Next” button.

5. Read the software license agreement and continue.

6. On the new page, click “Full installation”, then select the drive partition for subsequent installation of Windows 7. Before doing this, do not forget to format the desired partition.

After confirming the disk selection, the operating system will begin to install on the device. Progress will be displayed as a percentage. When the installation is complete, the program will require a reboot, which, in the absence of user action, is performed automatically. Now let's move on to the setup.

BASIC SETTINGS

The following instructions for setting up the OS installed on your PC will help you understand the basic parameters:

Fill in the lines with user and computer names - here you can show your imagination.

In the next window, set a password to access the PC and a hint. You can also skip this point.

Enter the activation code to confirm OS registration if you have a licensed version.

Select the system security options that suit you in the next window.

Set the time, time zone and current date.

The last point is selecting Internet connection parameters. For a home PC, it is advisable to select home network settings. After this, the OS saves the settings and can be considered installed. You can also install Windows directly from the working system.

To do this, just insert the media with the “seven” into the drive and follow the program instructions. Remember that you cannot format the drive this way, so it is not recommended to choose this method - it is better to prefer installing Windows from the BIOS.

Reinstalling Windows 7 is carried out in the same way as described above - there is nothing complicated in this process. After you have done all this, it will be useful for you to read the article: .This is where I end.

Let's digress a little from the topic. Guys, a cool clutch-wallet, a great option for a gift or for personal use. Of course there are sections for money, many sections for cards, you can put in a driver’s license. Positive reviews, great price!

In the process, you will format the local drive that contains the current version of Windows. Simply put, before installing a new system there, you will have to erase all old data from it. The contents of the remaining disks should remain unchanged. But it’s better to play it safe and first copy absolutely all data from your computer that you are afraid of losing to the cloud or to physical media.

If paid programs are installed on your computer, be sure to read their documentation for the rules for working with licenses when reinstalling Windows, otherwise you may lose them.

2. Create a boot disk or flash drive

If you want to install/reinstall a licensed version of Windows, make sure you have the appropriate activation key. Even if you are already using an activated system and just want to install the same version again, the old activation key may come in handy again.

  • If you already have a bootable USB flash drive or disk with the version of Windows that you are going to install, you can proceed to step 3. Otherwise, you need to download a Windows image from the Internet and burn it to any of the listed media according to the instructions below.
  • Decide on the version of Windows you will be installing and check that your computer meets its system requirements. This information can be found on the official Microsoft website or on the disk with your purchased Windows. Don't forget to also check that your computer supports the new version's bit depth: 32 or 64 bits. To be on the safe side, you can install a version with the same bit depth as your current version of Windows.
  • To create a bootable USB flash drive with any Windows image found on the Internet, you can use the program (with UEFI support) and proceed to step 3.

And below I will tell you how to create a bootable disk or flash drive with an official system image using Windows 10 as an example.

3. Boot the system from a disk or flash drive

Now that you have physical media with the desired Windows image, you need to go to the special BIOS software environment and select a disk or flash drive here as the boot source.

Perhaps instead of the classic BIOS you will see a more modern graphical interface. In addition, even in different older BIOS versions, the settings may differ. But in any case, the procedure will be approximately the same: go to the boot menu, select the desired media as the source and save the changes.

After this, the computer should boot from the selected disk or flash drive.

4. Run the installation wizard

If you did everything correctly, the Windows Setup Wizard will appear on the screen. Further actions are no more complex than installing an ordinary office program. All you have to do is follow the system prompts and wait for the files to be unpacked. Unless you have to select a local disk to install the operating system and format it.

Also, be prepared to enter your activation key during the process. But if you are reinstalling Windows 10 that has already been activated on your computer, then you can skip the step with the key.

Once the installation is complete, your computer should boot into normal operating mode.

5. Install drivers

Modern versions of Windows load drivers themselves. But if, after reinstalling the system, you notice that the video card, speakers, or anything else is not working correctly, you can use the driver autoload utility. For example, the free Driver Booster is suitable.

Having completed all of the above, you can get to work. The computer must be ready.
