Take a screenshot screen very easy using the default keyboard commands. But, if you want to take a screenshot entire page in the browser, and not just the visible area of the screen, then you will need special tools and a few extra clicks.
There are at least 4 ways to take a screenshot of an entire web page:
Zoom out the page and use default keys
This quick method will only work if the page extends only slightly beyond the visible area of the screen. Zoom out the page until it fits completely on the screen, and then take a screenshot using the default commands:
- Windows: Press a keyPrint Screen (PrtScr or Print Scrn). The screenshot will be saved to the clipboard. To insert this image into a file, use any graphics editor.
- Mac : Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd-Shift-3. By default, the screenshot will be saved as a PNG file on your desktop.
Programs for taking screenshots
You can install one of the special programs for taking screenshots on your computer. For example, I tried Snagit by Techsmith (both Windows and Mac), FastStone Capture (the program is only available for Windows) and Paparazzi (Mac only). When choosing, please note that some of these programs are not free. Share links in the comments if you know of other similar applications.
Online tools for taking screenshots
If you don't want to install anything on your computer, you can use one of these web tools to take a screenshot of the entire page directly in your browser: Snapito, Screenshot Machine or Web-capture.net . They all work in a similar way: just paste the URL of the desired page into the appropriate field on the service page.
Browser extensions
This is my favorite way to take screenshots of pages. No need to switch to another tab or launch a separate application - fewer clicks!
In one of my posts I wrote about the Google Chrome plugin for creating and editing screenshots. It provides quite a lot of tools for image processing. But, as you know, more functionality consumes more computer resources. What if all these tools are not needed and the user has only one specific task: for example, take a screenshot of the entire website page or some separate part of it? There is no point in installing a heavy extension in Google Chrome, especially on a weak PC.
There is an optimal option:
FireShot - quickly create screenshots (screenshots)
FireShot(stripped version) – a plugin that will allow quickly take a snapshot of a website page in the Google Chrome browser.
Installing the plugin
The plugin can be installed from the Chrome online store by following the link:
On the page that opens, click "+free" and confirm the new extension.
After which you will be notified in the upper right corner of the browser that FireShot has been successfully installed.
Clicking on the extension icon will open a menu.
There are 3 options available:
Capture entire page – screenshot of the entire website page, including scrolling.
Capture visible area– a screenshot of only the area that you see at the moment, without scrolling.
Capture a region – screenshot of the selected part of the screen.
Note that the corresponding key combination is displayed to the right of each option. As you can see, they are very uncomfortable. 4 buttons is too many. Therefore, you should go to the settings and register your own hotkeys that will be convenient for you. The main thing is that they do not coincide with standard Google Chrome hotkeys to avoid conflict.
Also in the settings you can choose one of two default screenshot formats: JPG and PNG.
As I already mentioned, this is a stripped-down version that provides only minimal functionality. There is a link on the page for saving the screenshot, by clicking on which you can upgrade to the PRO version, which has significantly more features.

How to take a screenshot of a website using services?
Previously, I took screenshots of the site in the standard way using the Alt+PrtSc command on the computer. It turned out that only the visible part of the screen was included in the recording. Then I learned many other useful services and tools that allow you to take a screenshot of the entire site. Let's tell you about them.
Pearl Crescent Page Saver – saves images or website web pages in whole or in part in jpeg or png formats. It is possible to scale the image from a smaller image to a larger one.
IESNAPSHOTTER 1.01 – extension for the Internet Explorer browser. This is not for everybody. It's paid, there seems to be a demo on the official website. You can use it for free.
LightShot – I wholeheartedly recommend using it! I do all my articles with his help. A very powerful program for creating screenshots of website pages. It doesn’t take a full screenshot, but there is rich functionality for editing such pictures - you can draw various arrows, highlight areas with different colors, insert text (you can enlarge it by scrolling with the mouse) and many other features.
There is both a built-in extension for Google Chrome and a desktop version. I have both options. The one that is generally ideal on a computer. Just press the PrtSc button on your keyboard and take advantage of all its features.
Installable programs on PC
Webshot – a program that allows you to take screenshots in full or as previews. Its main advantage is that it works with the command line, which allows you to automate the process of taking copies of the site from the screen.
FastStone Capture – A powerful utility for creating screenshots of entire websites with a floating control panel. You can take pictures of different shapes.
Paparazzi! – a small application for the Mac OS X operating system with functions for taking screenshots.
Online Screenshot Tools
– a simple online tool of the same type as I described at the very beginning of the article. Just paste the link and click on Thumb It. The inconvenience is that it leaves its copyright on the photo.

1 Capture scroll box or entire page using Snagit
We've been fans of Snagit for a long time. This is a powerful screen capture and editing app that allows you to do almost everything related to screenshots. Along with Camtasia (screen recording and video editing software), these are great products from TechSmith.
Please note: Snagit is not free, but it does have a 15-day free trial. To take a full screenshot of a page, follow these steps (we'll use Snagit for Windows as an example).
Step 1. Download Snagit and install it on your computer. Open the main capture window. Under Image > Selection, make sure you select Scrolling Window. Click the red "Capture" button to continue.
Step 2. Go to the page you want to take a screenshot from, then move your cursor to that area. Now Snagit will be activated and you will see three buttons with a yellow arrow icon.

3 Method using default commands
Make the page smaller and use the default commands. This is a quick fix if the page extends beyond the visible area of your screen. Zoom in until it fits the screen and then use the default commands to capture the full screenshot.
That is - in Windows, press "Print Screen" on your keyboard. It will save the screenshot to the clipboard, so you will have to open a graphics editor and paste the screenshot into a new file.
4 Screenshot using PicPick
There are many free screenshot utilities, both free and paid. Most of them are difficult to install and do not work as we would like. We chose PicPick as one of the best programs available. It is free, available for Windows, XP and later, with a full range of different features.
Step 1. Download and install PicPick. A simple installation wizard guides you through the entire installation process, from installing files to creating a desktop shortcut.
Step 2. Once opened, select the selection type from the list located in the “Screen Capture” section in the lower left corner of the main program window.
Like the Snipping tool, there are options for free-form, rectangular, windowed, and full-screen screenshots, as well as fixed-area and scrolling window options for more control when capturing elongated images.
Step 3. Save the screenshot. Make any changes you want, such as cropping and applying filters, and click on the main file in the top left corner.
Then select "Save As", write a new file, select a save location and select the desired file format from the drop-down menu. There are many formats to choose from including JPG, PNG, GIF or PDF. After completion, click on the “Save” button in the lower right corner.
