All the most interesting things for iPad. GarageBand for iOS (iPad): Export GarageBand songs

I've told you more than once how many creative things the iPhone has helped me do and helps me every day. This includes photos, videos, and music. Today I will share personal experience, how an analog idea turned into a full-fledged demo track that can be sent to any musician to study pariahs or to add their own ideas.

It was near the piano. Ordinary, wooden, with 88 keys, two pedals and the inscription “Belarus”. I often sit down with it when I have the opportunity and just start playing. Sometimes cool ideas come to mind, a melody is born and I continue to develop it. Once again, having come up with a melody, I wanted to turn on the voice recorder to record it, but I did this many times and then nothing happened to the recordings - they were formatted along with all the information before selling the smartphone. However, another thought immediately came to me.

I remembered the application installed on the iPhone. I remembered that there is an option to record sound from a microphone. Not a sampler, which also allows you to record sound and then play with it in every possible way, but a full-fledged audio track.

This way you can record a voice, but, as the caption below says, “or any other sound.” So I decided to write down my entire invented topic. And so that everything would be smooth and then I could register other instruments, I set up a metronome. To prevent its sound from being mixed in with the piano, I put on an earphone. Thus, the click came only to my ear. It is better to leave the second one free so that you can hear what you are playing. And the tempo can be adjusted simply by tapping: click on the approximate tempo button and it will be set automatically. I also recommend turning on the countdown so that, after pressing the record key, the metronome counts one idle measure.

But, before clicking on the record button, you should configure the recording region, since only a sector of 8 measures is recorded as standard. This can be done by clicking on the plus sign located in the upper right corner in the mode of displaying all tracks.

Now everything is ready. We insert the earphone into one ear, place the iPhone on the piano, press “Record” and play along with the metronome. The main thing now is not to make mistakes, since an audio track is being written and it will be impossible to correct individual notes.

At the end of recording, you can “compress” the sound. Choose the effect and compression level.

That's it, essay on iPhone. Now you can create as usual, just adapting to the audio track. But, since it is recorded with a click, and you know the key, this is not difficult to do. The only thing is that if you are going to use Smart tools, you need to set its key in the song settings - the one in which the sound from the piano was recorded.

When all the instruments are recorded, you can adjust the volume of each track, set the panning and send the song to friends to listen to or for improvement.

By the way, if, as in my case, you didn’t come up with the words and want someone else to do it, record another voice track, where you will speak when the chorus, when the bridge, etc. Only now you will listen in earphone the entire song, not just one click. The latter can be turned off after recording drums.

Not here we're talking about about the professionalism and unprofessionalism of using a phone and an application for these purposes, here we are talking about whether there will be a track, or it will simply be forgotten. The iPhone is always in your pocket and doing all these actions is not difficult, and due to the lack of available alternatives in most cases, this scheme becomes indispensable. By the way, if you are a guitarist, you can record a guitar like any other analog instrument!

Here is the track that I talked about in this article (you can upload it directly from Garageband to your Youtube):

If you find an error, please highlight a piece of text and click Ctrl+Enter.

Apple has released an update to its proprietary music application GarageBand, compatible with Mac computers. The program introduces the function of exporting songs in MP3 format, and also adds new content: three Drummer drummers and installations in the styles of rock, singer-songwriter and rhythm and blues.

GarageBand offers a rich collection of musical instruments and a full-fledged recording studio. You can play the piano, organs, drums and bass guitars, or, for example, record yourself playing a real guitar. The desktop version of GarageBand supports up to 255 tracks and makes it easy to share recorded tracks.

"Fully updated program With a new look and great new features, GarageBand is the easiest way to create great songs on Mac. Add realistic, perfectly executed drum beats to your songs using Drummer. Easily simulate the sound of any instrument in your collection using Smart Controls. Make the most of it low frequencies with new bass amps, or mix and match electric guitar amps, hardware systems, and pedals with Amp Designer and Pedalboard. Control GarageBand and play virtual instruments wirelessly on iPad using Logic Remote. Use iCloud to update GarageBand projects on your Mac computers, or import GarageBand for iOS songs directly from iCloud."

The new version of GarageBand allows you to export finished tracks to MP3, as well as use 3 new Drummers and kits in the styles of rock, singer-songwriter and rhythm and blues. The program has also updated the function universal access and improvements have been implemented to improve stability.

In part 19 of a large series of articles devoted to a review of applications included in the popular iLife ’11 package, we continue the story about the GarageBand program. In this issue we will talk about the application menu, its settings, as well as the functions of importing and exporting audio materials. Let us remind you that the GarageBand application is designed for creating music and learning to play various musical instruments.
PROGRAM MENU

GarageBand is such a feature-rich application that not all of the features have been placed in the many panels of the work window. Some of the functions were placed in the program menu, providing fast access to them. Of the entire menu, the sections that are of greatest interest to us are Track, Management, Export and perhaps Window. We will tell you about them now.

  • Track

If you read the last issue of the review dedicated to the GarageBand interface, you should remember the existence of a master track, which is initially hidden from the user, although it exists in every project. In order to display it in the list of other tracks, it is not at all necessary to dive into the jungle of settings in the track properties panel (we also mentioned it in the last issue) - you can do it much simpler and turn on the display of the master track using the line of the same name in the section Track program menu ( Track -> Show master track), or use the shortcut indicated to the right of the menu item name. By the way, any function listed in the application menu has its own shortcut, and if the user has the patience to learn and remember all the shortcuts, then he will be able to avoid looking at the menu at all in search of this or that function.

In the same section of the menu you can enable display arrangement tracks. At least three definitions of arrangement are known, but in relation to GarageBand, this term refers to the activity of selecting the tempo of a melody, its style, size, timbre - in general, everything that is associated with finalizing the melody.
Show podcast tracks or film will allow without changing current mode work, start creating a podcast or soundtrack to the film. Function multi-channel recording will allow you to simultaneously record several tracks at once, rather than one by one for each instrument.

Paragraph Show track lock will allow you to block or unblock a track with one click on a special icon that will appear in the mini-toolbar of each track. Locking will protect the regions of the track from editing and the processing process will be carried out by placing the track on the hard drive, thereby relieving the Mac's central processor.

  • Control

Section items Control generally duplicate similar functions available in the program toolbar, but among them there are some functions, for example, muting, which can only be accessed from this section.

Mute function adds another button to the mini-toolbar of each track, allowing you to turn on/off the priority function for this track or for other tracks with a mouse click.

Here you can assign automation curves to regions, as well as select one or another pre-made setting for a track when recording a “live” guitar.

  • Export

We will look at the options for exporting finished audio material, and there are 6 types of them, just below, when reviewing the import/export functions.

  • Window

The section is notable in that it allows you to call virtual or music keyboard panel in any mode of operation of GarageBand, not just in Piano, in which that panel is initially available.

The musical keyboard seemed to us more convenient than the virtual one and, in our opinion, is the best alternative, if you don’t have a USB or MIDI keyboard at hand.

Using the menu item Window -> Notepad, you can call up a small panel Notepad, which allows you to take text notes on the current project.

APPLICATION SETTINGS MENU

The GarageBand settings menu is quite simple, does not contain any important settings, and therefore it is quite possible to do without first configuring the application. However, the tabs are of most interest Audio/MIDI And Add-ons.

  • Audio/MIDI

Configures the audio inputs/outputs and key sensitivity of the keyboard when used as synthesizer keys.

  • Add-ons

The settings located in this tab allow you to manage automatic sound normalization when exporting projects, as well as set the quality of recorded and exported audio material.

If you start pre-configuring GarageBand to suit your interests, then you need to start with these tabs.

IMPORT FUNCTIONS

With imports, everything is quite conservative. Projects are imported on a special tab Assistant, or in the GarageBand program menu, through the items File -> Open or File -> Open Recently Used.

Import of audio files of compatible formats is carried out through the panel Media browser(from the iTunes library), or more simply - by dragging it onto the application window, and a separate track will be created for each added one.

EXPORT FUNCTIONS

The functions for exporting finished tracks are more varied and have 6 options, any of which can be selected in the section Export program menu. The projects themselves are saved in the usual manner, through menu items File -> Save or File -> Save As...

  • Submit a song to iTunes. Allows you to export the created musical composition to the iTunes library, to the music section. Before starting the export process, you can set the name of the iTunes playlist to which the exported object will automatically be added, as well as enter the names of the artist, composer and album name. By default, the track is exported uncompressed, but if desired, it can be compressed using AAC or MP3 codecs. For each codec there are several ready-made settings presets, but, if desired, the user can independently set required settings audio compression.

  • Send ringtone to iTunes. When creating ringtones in GarageBand, keep in mind that the ringtone must consist of a repeating part of the song lasting no more than 40 seconds. If the condition is met, then when choosing this option export, the ringtone will be automatically processed and sent to the iTunes library, in the ringtones section. If the length of the track exceeds the specified one, the user will be asked to independently change its length, or give the program the right to determine the fragment of the track for export. When automatically selected for export, as a rule, the first 40 seconds of the track are marked, but the user can always adjust the application selection.

  • Submit a podcast to iWeb. Ability to export the newly created podcast to the iWeb application for use when creating a website. The track is exported only with compression (AAC, MP3), encoding settings are similar to those used when exporting an audio track to an iTunes library.
  • Send movie to iDVD. If a user uses GarageBand to create sound design for a movie or video, the output video file with the updated soundtrack can be transferred to the iDVD application for later DVD creation disk with it. No additional settings are provided when exporting a movie.
  • Export song/movie to disk. This name hides the function of exporting a finished audio or video track as a file to any folder on your hard drive. The options for customizing output audio formats are similar to the settings for the export options described above. When exporting video, the user can select any of 6 possible presets ( email, web, web-streaming, iPod, AppleTV, high quality ), or use own settings compression.

  • Burn a song to CD. Possibility to burn the finished track to a CD in AudioCD format. GarageBand can clean up rewritable discs and after recording, do not finalize the disc, thereby leaving the possibility of adding files.

That's all for today, and in the next issue of the review we will talk about practical application GarageBand - work in one of the available modes.
