Installing and setting up Kodi on Android. KODI, Kore - Small transformation into a large TV theater

Now it’s time to talk in more detail about the initial setup of this media shell, since we receive a lot of emails with questions about it. As you already know, there are versions of Kodi for various platforms, but I will tell you how to set up a media center on Windows OS.

First, activate the Russian language in the “System | Settings | Appearance | International | Language", select Russian from the list, then in the "Language and Region" section, set the required region and keyboard layout. Next, in the system menu section “Settings | System”, change the settings in the “Video Output” and “Sound Output” tabs according to your computer configuration. For example, choose a 5.1 sound scheme and a display resolution of 1920x1080p.

2 Adding files to your library

To add your movie collection to your Kodi library, go to the “Video | Files | Add video" and click on the "Browse" button to select the folder directory with video files on your computer or home server (NAS). To connect two or more file sources, click the “Add” button and select a local folder or network device. The last step is to set a name for the file directory and click OK to move to the next step.

3 Create a directory classified by data type

Now we have to get data about our files uploaded to the media library, be it music or video. Kodi has several services (including Kinopoisk) for downloading our media library metadata. You can set the source content type in the menu: movies, TV series, etc., so that the plugin used in Kodi can get all the data about the files in the directory from the Internet. If your files are located in folders whose names correspond to the names of films, select the appropriate item additionally. It is worth noting that when using the Kinopoisk plugin to download metadata, you must specify the file name in any language with the year in brackets (for example, Youth (2015)). Also, do not forget to change the file metadata language to “ru” in the settings.

4 Media library management

You can access the catalog of your video files in the “Video | Files | [File name in the library]”, or go to the required category on the home screen (Movies, TV series). By default, you get information about a movie by right-clicking on an entry and selecting this item. An additional way to navigate is by using the drop-down menu on the left side of the screen, where you can configure the “View” so that Kodi shows the information directly, without a context menu.

5 How to set up IPTV in Kodi

Go to the “SYSTEM-Settings” menu and select the section - TV. Then in the “General” menu, activate the TV function - select “On”, make it active and when a warning appears that there are no active PVR managers, click OK.
After we clicked "OK", you will be redirected to the page with add-ons - PVR clients. Select the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on: then click enable and configure.

In the settings menu of the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on, you need to configure the first and second fields. In the “Location” field, indicate the location where the iptv playlist is stored - a remote path (stored on the Internet, suitable for self-updating playlists) or select a local path (the playlist can also be located on the local network), you can select the playlist that you saved on your computer or tablet, phone when using Kodi on Android devices.

The second field is the path to the .m3u file or playlist. After all fields are filled in, click OK. Exit to the main menu and restart Kodi for the changes to take effect. After the restart, the TV item appears in the main menu of the player; when you go into it, you will see a list of iptv channels from the downloaded m3u playlist.
Select the required channel to check playback. Ready!

6 Play torrents in Kodi without waiting for download

To install the plugin, use the following repositories: MyShows.me Kodi Repo or XBMC.ru search db. You can install the XBMC.ru search db repository and in the future the repositories of many plugin developers will be available in the Kodi media center.
After installing the repository, in the Kodi menu, do the following: “System | Settings | Add-ons | Download add-ons | XBMC.ru search db | Add-ons repository." Select MyShows.me Kodi Repo and click “Install” in the window that opens. Set search engines for the trackers you use in the “Video | Video extras | Torrent | Search Control Window | Install trackers." In the window that opens, click on the required trackers and then “Install”.
This completes the installation of the repository, now you can open Torrenter and start searching for files.

7 Kodi and setting up a DLNA network

Kodi supports DLNA networking (supports external UPnP/DLNA devices):

  • act as a DLNA client - receive and play content from other devices (UPnP/DLNA), add devices to Kodi UPnP/DLNA for playing videos from the library;
  • act as a DLNA server - provide the ability to play content from Kodi to other devices on the DLNA network;
  • the ability to share your media library with other UPnP and DLNA devices;
  • ability to manage UPnP/DLNA devices.

How to add UPnP/DLNA devices to Kodi

Open Kodi's media center and go to the Videos section, click Files, and then Add Video.

Go to the “System” section, click “Services” to share your media library.

Before you start setting up the Kodi media center, you need to download it from the developer’s website http://kodi.tv/. In the Downloads section you can find versions for various platforms, but for now we are interested in Windows.

1 Configuring system settings

Via "System | Settings | Appearance | International | Language" select the Russian language, and in the "Language and Region" section set the region and keyboard layout. Browse the Settings | System" and, if necessary, configure the "Video" and "Music" sections to match your hardware.

2 Connecting catalogs


To add movies to your Kodi collection, go through “Video | Files | Add Video" to the "Browse" button and find the directory on your computer or network drive. If you want to connect several sources at once, click on “Add” and select the appropriate location.

Now set a title that suits the topic and click on “OK” to move on to the next step.

3 Classify content to extract metadata


In the next menu, set the source content type (Movies, TV Series, or Music Videos) so that Kodi can retrieve metadata from the Web. If your files are located in folders whose names correspond to the names of films, select the appropriate item additionally.

In Settings, tell Kodi to use “ru” (Russian) as its preferred language for displaying movie information, and also set age restrictions. Close the configuration window with three clicks confirming your selection.

4 Viewing information about multimedia


You can get to your video files either through “Video | Files | [Title in library]”, or by selecting the appropriate content type on the main screen (Movies or TV Series). By default, you get information about a movie by right-clicking on an entry and selecting this item.

You can also bring up the menu on the left side of the screen and configure "View" so that Kodi shows the information directly, without a context menu.

5 Converting movies for viewing outside the home

How to set up Kodi on Android. Kodi is an application for the Android operating system, but at the same time, it has almost all the properties of an independent operating system. XBMC is an outdated name for Kodi, or rather Kodi is a rebranding of XBMC, which means that starting from a certain version, XBMC began to be called Kodi. Before starting work with Kodi, I would like to talk a little about the organization of its work. Let's compare Kodi and Android from a user's perspective. On Android, users use applications such as: YouTube, Twitter, VKontakte, etc. In Kodi, instead of the term “application”, another term is used – “add-on”. As a rule, the user installs Android applications from Google Play, or directly from application developer sites or pirated resources. In Kodi, Google Play and developer sites are Repositories. These are a kind of collections of additions. After installing Kodi on a smartphone or set-top box, as a rule, a certain number of such repositories are already connected. The term "connected" in Kodi means that the user can "enable" add-ons from connected repositories. Consequently, a certain two-level system is obtained - first you need to connect the repository in which the required add-on is located, for example, fs.to, and then enable this add-on fs.to, finding it in the already connected repository.

Installing Kodi

So, in order not to understand in each specific case how this or that version of Kodi is configured correctly, let’s simply remove the pre-installed Kodi, and then install it from Google Play or from our website. Installing a playlist

Before you start installing a playlist with the m3u extension, you need to place it in the console’s memory using any file manager. When you connect a flash drive to a USB port, ES Explorer is automatically launched, which also allows you to do this. Let's return to Kodi.

Installing and setting up Kodi

1 Choosing the right version

To install the multifunctional media center, you have two ways. On Windows 10, simply run the installation file. You can also download the program from the manufacturer's page kodi.tv if you need an option for Linux or Mac OS X. On the main page of the site, select the “Download” tab to go to the appropriate section.

2 Install Kodi


The Kodi Setup Wizard will guide you through the installation. In the first dialog box, click on the “Next” button and confirm that you have read the terms of the license agreement by clicking the “I Agree” button. In the next step “Choose Components”, select which Kodi components should be installed.

When installing the software for the first time, it is recommended that you select “Full” for the media center to install all items. In the next window, click “Next”, select “Install” and wait for the program to install with default settings. In the last step, check the “Run Kodi” box and click “Finish”.

3 Launch Kodi and change the language


If the Windows 10 firewall appears after launching Kodi, select Allow Access to allow Kodi to access the Internet. After that, you need to select the user interface language.

From the Home screen, tap the gear icon to open Settings. Then go to "Interface Settings" and "Regional". Select Russia and Kodi will immediately load the Russian interface. Then, in the “Regional” section, set the “Layout” item to “Russian ABC”.

4 Adding music files and photos


If you want to use Kodi Media Center to play your music collection, you'll need to tell the program where to store that type of file. To do this, select “Media Library Settings | Music..." and click "Files | Add music." In the Add Audio Source dialog box, click the Browse button.

The big plus is that Kodi not only supports local folders, but also provides access to network shares. This makes it easy to manage content stored on other computers and NAS servers. Select the music folder and confirm by pressing the “OK” button. In the next dialog box, specify a name for the selected music source and click OK again to complete the operation.

After these steps, information about the music files will begin to be loaded, which may take some time (especially if there are a lot of files and their capacity is measured in tens of gigabytes). In case you want to upload your photos using Kodi, first from the global settings menu you need to select “Media Library Settings | Images...", and then repeat the above steps: they will be similar.

5 Adding films and TV series to your library


Adding movies and TV shows differs from adding music and images only in some details. In the main menu, select “Video” and specify the path to the folder with video files, as described in the previous step.

After setting the media source name, Kodi will need to get information about which video files are stored in the selected folder. This distinction is important because Kodi automatically downloads information from the Internet that the program displays in playback mode. This information includes data on media content, as well as posters, with which the design of a future media collection looks much more interesting than in the form of files with a random frame in the preview.

If you select the Movies category, in the Select Content Type dialog box, next to Select Content Source, select The Movie Database, and then click Settings. Here, next to “Preferred language”, you need to select the “ru” option to load Russian-language data. Next to the “Default Rating from” item, you need to activate “TMDb” so that Kodi can retrieve data from this source.

6 We play movies and TV series


Local playback of multimedia content managed by Kodi will not cause any difficulties. In the main menu, select “Movies” and double-click on it to go to the list of relevant content.
