Walkie-talkie excalibur yosan instructions for use. Appearance of the radio

If you have more questions than answers, then the material below is for you. This is a review of one of the worthy representatives of the CB family, Yosan Excalibur radio stations. Excalibur is one of the few stations capable of meeting the needs of a wide range of CB users. This copy came across my desk by accident. A friend of mine asked me to modify it. Of course, I took the opportunity to review it.

Unfortunately, I received the station without a box and I can’t say anything about it.

Appearance
The radio station is made in the form of a monoblock. It has standard 1DIN dimensions, this is its feature.

  1. A display showing all operating modes of the radio station. Channel, grid, frequency and other functions.
  2. Volume control knob combined with turning the radio on and off (inside)
  3. Receiver gain control knob (outside)
  4. Headset jack
  5. Receive (green) and transmit (red) LED
  6. Speaker
  7. Threshold noise reduction control knob combined with a button for turning on additional FC functions (inside)
  8. Microphone gain control knob (outside)
  9. Channel selector knob
  10. Modulation selection button. The second function is to call the station setup menu (via the FC button)
  11. Channel scanning button. Conventional scanning occurs within the same frequency grid. The second function is memory channel scanning (via FC). You can change the scanning direction by turning the channel knob or using the buttons on the headset.
  12. Button for switching grids. The grids are switched sequentially. There are 15 of them in this station, 45 channels each (holes are turned on by default). The second function is to switch the station to zeros and back to fives (via FC).
  13. Button for selecting a channel from memory. To select a recorded channel, you need to press the MEM button, the letter M will appear on the display, then you need to press one of the buttons below the display. Although they are not signed, they are also memory cells. AM/FM – 1, SCAN – 2, EMG – 3, and so on. To record a channel into memory, the steps are the same, you just need to first press the FC button. The M indicator will flash.
  14. The button turns the automatic squelch on and off. The second function is to enable key lock mode. All buttons are blocked except for the on/off button for the automatic squelch on the headset.

  5. Automatic squelch on/off key

Menu

The station has a menu. It has 4 points. It is called up by successively pressing the FC button and the AM/FM key. The name of the menu item is written on the left, where the frequency is usually located. The mode is changed using the channel switch knob.

BEEP – turns on and off the sound of the keys (ON – on, OF – off. When turned on, a “note” symbol appears on the display, on the left, top)
ROGER – sound signal for the end of transmission (ON – on, OF – off. When turned on, a “double note” symbol appears on the display between the channel number and frequency)
COLOR – display backlight color. (01 – green, 02 – orange)
LIGHT – display backlight brightness. (BR – full brightness, DI – reduced brightness)

Reset to factory settings
If the station does not work correctly, or you want to clear the channel memories and return to factory settings, turn on the radio while holding down the AM/FM and MEM buttons .

Inside
The station is made at the Nextron plant in China (small letters below). The serial number of the station begins with 1211.

The installation is made on a board made of green PCB.

The first IF has 2 filters sealed, which is a plus.

The editing is neat for the most part, but there are a couple of annoying moments!
The VCO assembly seemed to have been soldered after assembly. It’s not clear what the Chinese were doing there, but everything works.

The station can operate from a voltage source of both 12 and 24 volts. For this purpose, the station uses a voltage reduction circuit with a large resistor that dissipates excess power. The station can work in trucks without a 24V -> 12V converter!

The board has a socket for connecting a CTCSS module. Unfortunately, Yosan no longer puts them in their stations.

The output stage is built on transistors 2SC2078 and 2SC2314. Output power 8 watts. Both transistors are screwed to the rear wall, which improves heat dissipation, thermal stability and protects against vibration when using the station in a car.

Heat exchange is carried out through a thermal pad, which is not very good. The harness is nearby, soldered to ground sloppily (resembles an explosion). Iron filings and flux residues were found on the board and case. During revision, all this was cleaned out.

Bottom line
If you close your eyes to the flaws in the installation and some shortcomings, then the station turned out to be good. She is truly worth attention. With a wide range, two noise suppressors and extensive functionality, the station is able to satisfy the needs of a wide range of users. Revision is strictly recommended, since the flaws described above can cause unpredictable behavior and failure for the station. Otherwise, the station can be recommended for use both in a car and at a base to solve a wide range of problems.

Radio station Yosan Excalibur (Yosan Excalibur) is one of the most interesting representatives of the model range from the Korean manufacturer Yosan.

Yosan Excalibur Radio Review

The main feature of this radio station is form factor 1DIN(the size of a car radio), thanks to which the popular question “where to install the radio station in the car?” is immediately resolved. Yosan Excalibur (Yosan Excalibur) can be easily connected to almost any car that has a niche format 1 DIN, while you get the convenience of controlling the station without compromising aesthetics. In addition, the walkie-talkie is “omnivorous” in terms of supply voltage. The internal converter allows it to be connected both to cars with 12-volt equipment, and to cars or buses with a 24-volt system.

However, these are far from the only advantages of Yosan Excalibur. The station has very broad functionality and good technical characteristics, as well as thoughtful controls.

Appearance of the radio

The front panel is made of high-quality black plastic. It contains a loudspeaker, an LCD display, a 6-pin connector for connecting a PTT, keys and potentiometers for controlling the station, as well as a two-color LED indicator. It signals the operation of the station for transmission in red, and for reception in green.

Station body dismountable, has metal covers that are securely fastened with screws on the side and back. On the rear panel there is a connector for connecting an external antenna and a connector for an additional speaker, power wires are routed out, and here the manufacturer has placed a plate with the serial number of the station.

Walkie Talkie Display has two backlight colors – green and orange, the symbols are perfectly readable at any angle. Due to its large size, it can simultaneously display a fairly large number of indicators: channel number and frequency, modulation mode, power level and signals on the air, type of noise suppressor, etc.

Yosan Excalibur Controls

The Excalibur station has dual potentiometers, with the exception of the CH channel switch. All of them have a smooth ride, there are no backlashes. The outer regulator is “ribbed” and the inner one is smooth.

Regulator PWR/ VOL - turning the station on and off, VOL - adjusting the speaker volume.

Regulator MIC/ S.Q.– microphone gain, SQ allows you to control the operation of the threshold noise suppressor, while being a button for calling additional functions F.C..

Key A.M./ FM / MENU– switching the amplitude or frequency modulation mode / calling up the menu.

Key SCAN/M. SCAN– mode of scanning all channels and scanning channels / recorded in the station memory.

Key EMG/SHIFT– switching grids / switching frequency offset 0-5.

Key MEM/M. SAVE– key for selecting a memory channel (channels are assigned to function buttons) / recording channels into memory.

Key ASQ/L.O.. C.T.– enable or disable automatic squelch / key lock.

The control keys are backlit, which greatly simplifies working with the station in the dark. Additional functions called up by pressing the potentiometer F.C..

TangentYosanExcalibur It has average weight and dimensions, it is convenient and pleasant to use. The cord is soft, therefore, it will not “tan” in the cold and subsequently break.

The headset has a PTT button, channel up/down buttons, and a button responsible for turning on the automatic squelch. The UP, DN, ASQ buttons have white-blue backlighting, which makes it easier to control the radio in the dark.
