German firmware mod for Nokia 5530. Preparing the phone for firmware

Many requests and comments were left about improving the firmware. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to figure out the firmware change myself (I’m rarely at home), but today I discovered a new firmware modification for the Nokia 5530, codenamed Simple Mod v.1.0 by Wayfer. By the way, it is Wayfer who is developing a program for independently changing firmware for the 5530, the release of which is just around the corner (although it was promised earlier). Less words - look under the cat.

There were some problems with the development of the program, the program is being rewritten, so we are seeing firmware that, I hope, will suit more people.

Simple Mod is a standard firmware with improved performance with virtually no visual changes.

Changes in this version:

  • Hacking protection (Russian RomPatcher; patches: Install Server, Open 4 All, Mega Bass, Charger Notes OFF, Record Tone OFF, Reset On Power Long; in Install Server and Open 4 All startup)
  • Extended caps for Java and SIS
  • Removed OVI Contacts
  • Removed unnecessary programs from startup
  • Quick Theme Effects
  • Russian smartphone language by default
  • Help files removed
  • Russian, English and Ukrainian input languages
  • Russian and English phone languages
  • Removing standard browser bookmarks

  • Path to save files received via Bluetooh in E:\Bluetooth
  • Removed space for FOTA
  • Screen rotation has been accelerated
  • Alarm snooze 5 minutes
  • Message settings (999 messages, on E:\)
  • Reducing photo compression
  • Russian language for standard dictionary
  • Changed memory threshold settings
  • Increased productivity
  • Disabled caching of the Camera application in RAM
  • Protection has been removed from SIS transfer via a standard file manager
  • Changed system cache settings
  • Changed web address suffixes
  • Widget requests disabled
  • Removed SMS sent upon first launch
  • Removed the welcome message on first launch
  • Enabled resuming of broken downloads in the browser
  • Camera 4 muted

As you can see, there are no unnecessary programs, effects, etc.

Firmware instructions

  1. Download the firmware and install it on your computer
  2. We move the modified files that were downloaded earlier (link above) to the folder in which the firmware is installed (by default C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-504), agreeing to replace the files
  3. download the program for JAF firmware (there are also instructions and reviews).
  4. Connecting the phone in PC Suite mode
  5. After installation, run the JAF program from the desktop, ignoring the message BOX DRIVER NOT INSTALLED, it won't bother us.
  6. Go to the BB5 tab, click the Use INI checkbox, after which our window will fly out, where we select the model of our phone. Ok, uncheck CRT 308 and set it to: Manual Flash, Dead USB, Factory Set.
  7. Turn off the phone without disconnecting it. Click in the Flash program, agree with the error and briefly press the Power button on the phone to turn it on. Then the program will do everything for you. After a few minutes you will receive a new phone.

Let's decide on the firmware. I use modified versions of the standard firmware, ported C6 and n97 after a couple of weeks of work no longer brought any joy, as they began to freeze wildly.
The list of available firmwares can be found here:
http://forum.allnokia.ru/viewtopic.php?t=61485
You just need to choose the one you like and download it. As a rule, you will have to download several files (kernel and PPM).

Step 2

After waiting for the download to complete (how long to wait depends on the mood of your provider), we proceed to preparing the software.
Download drivers:
http://narod.ru/disk/20308332000/nokia_flashing_cable_driver_8.47.0.rar.html
http://allnokia.ru/soft/moreinfo-21.htm
Install and reboot the computer.

Step 3

We save important files from your phone or flash card. We format the flash drive (via PC) and put it aside for a while. You will need to perform a Hard Reset on your phone - just call *#7370#. The phone will require a password, and if it has not been changed, you will need to enter 12345. The phone will reboot.

Step 4

Now download JAF. This is software for actually flashing the phone's firmware.
For 32-bit systems:
http://narod.ru/disk/17436455001/Assembly%20J.A.F%201.98.66%20.exe.html
For 64-bit systems:
http://narod.ru/disk/6351504001/J.A.F%201.98.66%20modified%20Win7x64.exe.html
Download and install.

Step 5

Two shortcuts will appear on the desktop - Start J.A.F and J.A.F Manual. If you have seven, then right-click on Start JAF, go to the compatibility tab and set compatibility with Windows XP SP3.

Step 6

And so, we disable the antivirus and firewall, run JAF as administrator, connect the TURNED OFF phone via USB to the computer, preferably without any adapters, but directly into the USB port on the back of the system unit.
In JAFe, go to the BB5 tab, check the boxes for Manual Flash, Dead USB, Factory Set, uncheck the CRT 308 and Normal Mode boxes.

Step 7

Unpack the firmware into a separate folder.
Drag the core file (most likely its name will look like this: ****.core.c00) into the Jafa window, a small pop-up menu will appear, select MCU File there, the MCU light will light up.
Now the firmware file (has the extension * .V06). We do the same thing, only select PPM File in the pop-up window.

Step 8

We make sure that the drivers are installed, antiviruses, etc. are turned off, two lights are on, the checkboxes are checked, the switched off phone (with a USB flash drive inserted) is connected via USB to the computer. Now the most crucial moment - press the Flash button in JAF. A large and menacing warning will appear that you can now ruin your phone. Yes you can, so I don't bear any responsibility :)
We agree with the warning, the firmware begins, briefly press the phone’s power button, you will hear that a new device has connected to the computer.

Step 9

The firmware will end when the jaf writes Done! repeatedly.
Enjoy the latest firmware;)

The PNHT team, as promised, has released the Nokia C6 firmware version ported to 5800\5530.
The firmware process itself is standard and there is nothing new in it, we use jaf.
The firmware really worked and I want to note that it works much faster than the native one. I can’t say anything about stability yet, time will tell.
True, after flashing the firmware, I didn’t find the usual list of messages in the messages folder; they are no longer grouped into a hidden list. The system update message also did not produce results.
But now I have a fast phone; before I had to achieve speed by installing SPB mobile Shell.

As you can see from the screenshot above, desktop widgets also work; they are installed from the ovi store, just like the N97. By the way, the ovi store also did not work, the problem was solved by re-downloading this application through a standard browser.
By default, the accelerometer and theme effects are disabled, they are turned on through the menu, the qwerty keyboard turns on automatically when you rotate the screen (the first time you had to select it manually). QuickOffice, adobe pdf le, zip integrated.
Well, the first impression was positive; installing this firmware version “revived” the phone.

firmware with Russian and English for 5530
firmware with Russian and English for 5800
I warn you right away: I choose the best firmware in my personal opinion for the 5530.

I won’t describe the firmware instructions for a long time, you can use the manual and download everything you need
for Nokia 5530 for Nokia 5800. Namely, you need instructions for flashing JAF.
Note: if you do not have folders...\Phoenix\... you need to create them. For users of 64-bit Windows, it is better to duplicate it in Programm files and Programm files(86).

Save all the most important data - contacts, notes and SMS messages. Backups can be made using Ovi Suite by synchronizing through the appropriate option in the program menu. Also write down the names of the applications that are installed on your device, since after flashing all data will be deleted.

Before the operation, fully charge the camera battery charger that came in one package with the phone at purchase.

Download and install all the necessary programs on your computer. You will need to download the latest version of Phoenix Service Software (at least 2012.05.003.47798). You will also need to download Russian firmware, which corresponds to the RM version of the phone printed on the device box (for example, RM-558). The RM ID corresponds to the name of the market for which the device was released and the color of the case.

Run the downloaded firmware file and install it according to the instructions on the screen. The firmware is an ordinary installation file that unpacks all the necessary data in the Program Files directory, and therefore installation difficulties most often do not arise. Also run the Phoenix installer to connect your phone to your computer.

Before upgrade close all antivirus programs and Ovi Suite.

Firmware procedure

Connect the turned on phone to the computer using a cable, selecting Suite mode. You will begin installing drivers for flashing. When notified that the hardware installation has been successful, unplug the machine and turn it off. Connect the switched off phone to the computer and briefly press the power button 1-2 times. The installation of the new driver will begin. If the installation fails, click on the corresponding notification and manually specify the path to the driver file, which is located in the folder “Local drive C:” - Program Files (x86) – Nokia – Connectivity Cable Driver.

Disconnect the device from the computer again, turn it on, and then connect it to the computer. Launch Phoenix using the desktop shortcut. In the No connections item, select the USB RM indicator that corresponds to your device. After this, go to File – Scan Product, and the name of your firmware and device data will appear at the bottom of the program.

Go to the Flashing – Firmware Update tab, where among the options offered, select your RM code. Under the SW Reset button, click Options to open the settings window. In the proposed list, uncheck the Dell item. If it is absent, there is no need to change any parameters.

Click on the Refurbish button to start flashing your phone. Wait for the process to complete without turning off or touching the device until the corresponding notification appears and the device is completely turned on. Nokia 5530 flashing completed.
