How to properly close the Skype program. Quitting Skype

A program called Skype has been mentioned more than once on our website. In order not to repeat ourselves, let us briefly recall that it is software that allows people to communicate on the Internet. At the same time, there is absolutely no need to pay for communication, except for those cases when calls are made to landline or mobile phones. Not every one of us knows how to use Skype; for some, this program will be a real discovery. It is not surprising that questions constantly arise around her. Some people don't know how to install it, while others can't get out of it. It is the last question that we have to examine today.

There are two different methods for solving this problem, which differ significantly from each other. You can read about them a little lower, but for now we note that if you click on the cross in the main window of the program, it will only hide in the tray, but will not close completely.

First way

Look carefully at the taskbar (the strip that is located on the same level as the Start button) - it should display a small Skype icon. It is usually green in color, but can change its color depending on the selected status. Hover the mouse arrow over it, right-click and in the menu that appears, click on the “Exit Skype” link.

This means you close Skype completely. To open the program again, you need to run it.

Second way

It allows you not to close Skype, but only to log out of your account, for example, in order to log in under a different name. This is also very easy to do.

In the top menu (“Contacts”, “Conversations”, “Calls”, etc.), select the “Skype” - “Exit” section, after which you will find yourself on the main page of the program and you can enter other login information.

MAC

In this case, we talked about Windows operating systems (XP, 7, Vista, 8). If you are using an Apple computer based on MAC OS, then there is essentially no difference. If you want to change the user, then use the second method published above.

But if you want to completely close Skype, then in the active program window press the keyboard shortcut Command+Q (Cmd+Q).

Among the many questions that relate to the operation of the Skype program, a significant part of users are concerned with the question of how to close this program or log out of their account. After all, closing the Skype window in the standard way, namely by clicking on the cross in its upper right corner, only leads to the fact that the application simply minimizes to the taskbar, but continues to function. Let's find out how to disable Skype on your computer and log out of your account.

So, as we said above, clicking on the cross in the upper right corner of the window, like clicking on the “Close” item in the “Skype” section of the program menu, will only result in the application being minimized to the taskbar.

In order to completely close Skype, click on its icon on the taskbar. In the menu that opens, select the “Exit Skype” option.

After this, after a short time a dialog box will appear asking if the user really wants to leave Skype. Click the “Exit” button, after which you will exit the program.

In a similar way, you can exit Skype by clicking on its icon in the system tray.

Logging out of your account

But the exit method described above is only suitable if you are the only user with access to the computer and are sure that no one else will open Skype in your absence, since then the account will be logged in automatically. To eliminate this situation, you need to log out of your account.

To do this, go to the section of the program menu, which is called “Skype”. In the list that appears, select “Log out of account.”

You can also click on the Skype icon on the taskbar and select “Sign out of account.”

With any of the selected options, you will be logged out of your account, and Skype itself will reboot. After this, the program can be closed using one of the methods described above, but this time without the risk of someone logging into your account.

Skype crashes

The options for standard shutdown of Skype were described above. But how can you close a program if it freezes and does not respond to attempts to do it in the usual way? In this case, the Task Manager will come to our aid. You can activate it by clicking on the taskbar, and in the menu that appears, selecting “Start task manager”. Or, you can simply press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Esc.

In the Task Manager that opens, in the “Applications” tab, look for the Skype program entry. Click on it, and in the list that opens, select the “Cancel task” option. Or click the button with the same name at the bottom of the Task Manager window.

If, nevertheless, the program could not be closed, then call the context menu again, but this time select the “Go to process” item.

We see a list of all processes running on the computer. But you won’t have to search for the Skype process for long, since it will already be highlighted with a blue line. Call the context menu again and select the “Cancel task” option. Or click on the button with exactly the same name in the lower right corner of the window.

After this, a dialog box will open warning you about the possible consequences of forcing the application to close. But, since the program is really frozen, and we have nothing to do, we click on the “End process” button.

As you can see, there are several ways to disable Skype. In general, all these methods of disconnection can be divided into three large groups: without logging out of your account; with logging out of your account; forced shutdown. Which method to choose depends on the program’s performance factors and the level of access of unauthorized persons to the computer.
