Dir 300 does not distribute Internet via wifi. Assigning a network name

The first thing that owners of a newly purchased item are interested in is D-Link router DIR-300 immediately after connecting it - these are configuration issues wireless network wifi After all, this is why you buy the device. A wifi network is quite enough to provide Internet access to all gadgets in the apartment. If previously households had conflicts over access to the Internet, now with the acquisition D-Link DIR-300 all their worries will melt away like smoke. But this will happen only after we correctly configure wireless wifi network. In addition to setting up this service, the router also supports other communication technologies, such as VPN. The router's admin panel has options corresponding to them. But we will not touch on these issues here. We are only interested in wifi!

Like other settings of the D-Link DIR-300 router, wireless network settings are carried out via the web interface. You can access it from a browser on the computer to which the device is directly connected. We will consistently describe all the actions necessary to organize full support wireless network in a confined space of your home. Read carefully and repeat after us.

Assigning a network name

Our first wifi setup on the D-Link DIR-300 router will be to assign a network name. To begin, let's do the following:

  • In the menu on the left, select “Wi-Fi” -> « General settings». .
  • In the panel on the right, check the box "Enable wireless connection.".
  • Set the “MBSSID” option to “Disabled”. .

Let's move on to actually setting up the router's network name. For this:

  • Go to the “Wi-Fi” menu -> "General settings"..
  • In the “SSID” field enter the name future network D-Link DIR-300. It should be typed in the Latin alphabet - no Russian letters! By this name you will search for a network among others.
  • Field "Channel".- \ assign the “Auto” mode. . This parameter is usually adjusted when communication interference occurs. If wifi is not working very well, then try playing with this value.
  • Field " Wireless mode"set to the value "B/G/N Mixed". . If you work with a laptop or use a smartphone, you can set the value “G Only” here - this will allow the system to work at the limit of its capabilities.

Assigning access rights

Routers like the D-Link DIR-300 provide a signal not only within your home, but also a little further away. If you live in apartment building, then the signal from your device will reach neighboring apartments, and maybe spread further.

If there are particularly cunning people among your neighbors, they can easily steal your traffic. In this case, the speed of your Internet connection will decrease as much as your neighbor’s speed will increase.

Distributing traffic to family members is one thing, but sharing it with strangers and not very decent people is quite another. That's why next setting Wifi on D-Link DIR-300, which we will do, will concern restricting access to your router from outsiders. Only those who know the password will be able to connect to the system.

We sequentially perform the following manipulations:

  • We launch the browser on the computer and enter the IP address of our device into the address bar: http://192.168.0.1.
  • In the menu on the left, select “Wi-Fi” -> "Security Settings"..
  • "Network authentication" set to “WPA-PSK/WPA-2-PSK mixed”. .
  • Enter any desired password in the field "Key PSK encryption». . Do not assign a password that is too primitive, like “123” - such wifi can easily be hacked.

Here, in fact, are all the minimum settings required to organize a wireless network based on the D-Link DIR-300 router. If something doesn't work, then the reason lies somewhere other than basic settings. We will look at some problems of this kind for the D-Link DIR-300 brand router below.

If you want to get rid of annoying cables, not be tied to one place of work on a computer/laptop, and easily move everything computer equipment-needs to be purchased and configured wifi router. A series of articles about setting up various routers will help you easily set up a Wi-Fi wireless network at home.

In this article I will describe setting up Wi-Fi using the Dlink Dir-300 NRU B5 router as an example. The first thing to do is to the last. Then you need to configure the network on your computer/laptop to automatic acquisition of an IP address and DNS server. After this, we connect via web interface at Dlink (this applies to those cases if you closed the web interface after updating the firmware). We enter into the browser (it is advisable to use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) 192.168.0.1 login admin, password admin(default).
After this we get to the web interface of Dlink Dir-300 NRU. Click on the button "Wi-Fi Wireless Network Setup Wizard".

In the first settings window you need to check the box "Enable wireless connection" I think it’s clear why :). MBSSID parameter (allows one access point to serve up to four wireless networks at once with various settings) and BSSID (this is the physical address of the access point (MAC address) for the corresponding network.). At home, these functions are used extremely rarely, which is why they are initially turned off, and we will leave them as such. Click "Further".

In the next window in the line "Hide access point" We don’t check the box, write the name of the wireless network in the SSID line, select the country, leave the channel at auto or indicate free, how to determine free channel described in the article How to select/change the wireless channel on the router/router . Select wireless mode « 802.11 B/G/N mixed» , in order to various devices could connect to Wi-Fi if the line "Maximum number of clients" leave 0 this means that NRU can connect to Dlink Dir-300 unlimited amount devices, if you specify, for example, the number 5, then maximum amount There will be no more than 5 devices that can connect to the wireless network.

In order for all devices, both new and outdated, to connect to the Wi-Fi networks, select network authentication "WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK mixed".

In the PSK encryption key line, enter the password that you will need to enter in order to be connected to the Wi-Fi network (I recommend using complex password, at least 8 characters with letters, numbers and special characters). All other settings relate to encryption and I recommend leaving them at default.

In the next window we look at all the settings we specified, if everything is specified correctly, click "Save" otherwise press "Back" and fix it.

Now you need to save the settings on the Dlink Dir-300 NRU, to do this, press the button at the top "Save".

On this Wi-Fi setup on the Dlink Dir-300 NRU router can be considered complete, close the browser window, turn on Wi-Fi device, we find our network.
Enter the password and enjoy the Internet wirelessly.
After configuring the router, you can start setting up local network on

I've already written a dozen instructions on how to set up Wi-Fi router D-Link DIR-300 for working with a wide variety of providers. Everything is described: router firmware and configuration different types connections and how to set a password for Wi-Fi. All this is there. The link also contains ways to solve the most common problems that arise when setting up a router.

To the least extent, I touched upon only one point: the buggy nature of new firmware on D-Link DIR-300 routers. I'll try to systematize it here.

DIR-300 A/C1

So, the DIR-300 A/C1 router that has flooded into all stores is a rather strange device: neither with firmware 1.0.0, nor with subsequent versions, it works for almost no one as it should. There are a variety of glitches:

  • it is impossible to configure the access point parameters - the router freezes or simply does not save the settings
  • IPTV cannot be configured - the router interface does not display the necessary elements for selecting a port.

About latest firmware 1.0.12 they generally write that during the update the router hangs, and after a reboot the web interface is unavailable. And my sample is quite large - 2,000 people come to the site every day using DIR-300 routers.

The following are DIR-300NRU B5, B6 and B7

The situation with them is also not completely clear. Firmwares are stamped one after another. Current for B5/B6 - 1.4.9

It’s just not much use: when these routers first came out, with firmware 1.3.0 and 1.4.0, the main problem was the interruption of the Internet for a number of providers, for example, Beeline. Then, with the release of 1.4.3 (DIR-300 B5/B6) and 1.4.1 (B7), the problem practically ceased to appear. The main complaint about these firmwares was that they “reduced speed”.

After that, they began to release subsequent ones, one after another. I don’t know what they are fixing there, but with enviable frequency all the problems that the D-Link DIR-300 A/C1 also has began to appear. And also the notorious gaps on Beeline - 1.4.5 more often, 1.4.9 less often (B5/B6).

It remains unclear why this is so. It can’t be that programmers cannot rid software of the same bugs over a long period of time. It turns out that the hardware itself is worthless?

Other noted problems with the router

The list is far from complete - in addition, I had to personally meet with the fact that not everyone works on the DIR-300 LAN ports. Users also note that for some of the devices, the connection setup time can be 15-20 minutes, provided that everything is in order with the line (manifests itself when using IPTV).

The worst thing in the situation: some general pattern that allows you to solve everything possible problems and there is no way to configure the router. The same A/C1 comes across and is fully functioning. However, based on personal feelings, the following assumption arises: if you take 10 DIR-300 Wi-Fi routers of the same revision from the same batch in a store, bring them home, flash them with the same new firmware and make the settings for one line, you will get something like this:

  • 5 routers will work perfectly and without problems
  • Two more will work with minor problems that can be ignored
  • And the last three D-Link DIR-300 will have various problems, because of which using or setting up the router will not be the most pleasant experience.

Attention question: is it worth it?
