Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) is a smartphone that holds a charge for a long time. Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) smartphone review: what does the brand mean?

Hi all! 😃

Before 2017 ends, I want to write about last year’s gadget - the Samsung Galaxy J7 smartphone. I bought it as a birthday gift for my mother (to replace the “old man” Samsung Galaxy Premier - my review of the shaggy 2013), and, as expected, I happily tested the phone for two weeks. In this review I will tell you in detail about the pros and cons of the device, as well as my impressions. .

I think everyone determines for themselves which characteristics of a gadget are important to them. I bought the phone for my mother, who needs a smartphone with a large screen, high-quality communication and a decent camera. For not the most demanding user of functions Galaxy J7 (2016) That’s enough, moreover, I’m sure that for my mother it won’t be obsolete for a few more years.

Samsung Galaxy J7 quite correct to compare with mine Meizu U20 , because both smartphones were released last year and are in +/- the same price category. So, my Chinese one has a noticeably better screen (resolution, number of pixels per inch and image quality), more RAM (3 GB), has a fingerprint scanner, and more internal memory (32 GB). Overall, I think it's a little faster. But Samsung has a better camera, a removable battery, and the slot for the second SIM card is NOT hybrid (you can put 2 SIM cards + a microSD memory card).

DESIGN.

The smartphone looks Samsung-style, simple and without pretense of exclusivity. Budget line Galaxy , after all. If you want a phone with a more interesting design, please, there are rulers Galaxy A And Galaxy S .

There are a total of three body colors available to choose from. I have white:

The back panel is made of matte plastic, resistant to scratches and abrasions:

Side faces Galaxy J7 very beautiful and made of real aluminum, unlike my mother’s previous Samsung, which was completely plastic.

The home key is narrow and much less convenient than Meizu U20 , however, this is a matter of habit, it seems to me.

The volume key is located on the left side:

The camera lens is located in the center - this detail is typical for many Android smartphones and I personally don’t like it visually. Therefore, my phone seems better to me in this regard.

The dimensions of the J7 are impressive, but in 2017 the 5.5-inch smartphone no longer looks like a “shovel”, especially since it fits comfortably in the hand:

So, externally Galaxy J7 - a pretty nice thin smartphone, but, of course, far from being as handsome as my glass Meizu U20

SCREEN.

Large - 5.5 inches, exactly the same as my Meizu . But the Chinese have better resolution and higher quality images. There is no automatic brightness adjustment on Samsung.

The color rendering is simply superb, all shades are rendered as colorfully as possible. At the same time, the colors on the Meizu U20 screen are more realistic. Well, as they say, it comes down to taste and color...)

OS.

Android 5.1. Sorry, but I will never be able to understand and love this OS if it is in the form it is in Samsung. Is it a Chinese shell? Flyme on my smartphone! And even if it is somewhat crude and unfinished even in the updated version, use smartphones Meizu MUCH nicer. But I don't like all this:

IN Samsung Galaxy J7 I don’t like visual aspects such as widgets, desktops, icons, keyboard design, menus, etc.

Yes, yes, I know that you may have a different opinion about Ondroids. But for me, it’s either iOS or a high-quality shell like Flyme.

CONNECTION.

Here the smartphone showed its best side: in 2 weeks it never lost the network, LTE showed confidence. There are also no complaints about the quality of communication during a conversation, as well as about video calls in Skype/WhatsApp.

BATTERY.

When the phone is new, there are few questions about the battery, especially if it initially has a good capacity (more than 3200 mAh). Galaxy J7 can easily withstand 1.5 days without recharging - tested, and repeatedly. Moreover, I used the Internet very actively, wrote reviews, took photographs, listened to music in the application and, in general, tinkered with my phone a lot.

The big advantage of the J line is its removable batteries. It is convenient, practical, economical. You provide a removable account for each smartphone. Charging is carried out via a standard micro-USB connector.

MULTIMEDIA.

Samsung Galaxy J7 It has an excellent speaker and generally sounds above all praise, especially in contrast to my Chinese one, whose sound is its weakest point. The headphone jack is standard.

Watching videos on this smartphone is a pleasure: the picture is high-quality, extremely clear, and loads instantly if you have a strong Internet connection.

CAMERA.

If the camera is on my Meizu U20 It’s good to shoot only in VERY good lighting, but with Samsung everything is a little more rosy. Camera Samsung Galaxy J7 can take relatively decent shots even in artificial light (my Meizu , although he’s handsome, he’s not capable of this):

This is an example of taking a photo for a review:

Example photo in good daylight:

Example photo with flash:

Photo in cloudy weather (what other weather could there be in November, and even in St. Petersburg):

And finally, selfish. Not a fountain, of course, but you can live (in daylight, the quality of the photo from the front camera will be much better):

Yes, 13 megapixel camera Samsung Galaxy J7 It’s not even close to the flagship smartphones S7 and S8 (my brother and sister-in-law have exactly these phones, so I even compared the pictures). But for a budget device, this shooting quality is very, very pleasing!

Autofocus is very fast, you can choose the photo resolution (there are a lot of options), there are also various filters with enhancements. All this is implemented BETTER than on Meizu U20 .

OTHER SMARTPHONE FEATURES.

Samsung Galaxy J7 It has the ability to install two SIM cards and a memory card at the same time. While mine Meizu U20 the second slot is hybrid, which means you have to choose what to put in the phone. This is the main reason why I didn't take a more beautiful one Galaxy A7 (2016) , because my mother needs both a memory card and two SIM cards at once.

GPS navigation is very reliable. Lately my Chinese has started to glitch a little and sometimes loses its location. Samsung doesn't have such problems.

There is NO fingerprint scanner in the smartphone. For my mother, this point is not important, so I decided that it was not worth overpaying for the model of the older Galaxy A family.

EQUIPMENT.

MY IMPRESSIONS.

Generally, Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) I like it. This is a fairly modern, attractive smartphone, with the characteristics that my mother has already appreciated: firstly, she loves Samsung, and secondly, she enjoys the big screen.

What do I need LIKED on a smartphone:

✔ Large screen with good color reproduction.

✔ High-quality case materials.

✔ Good sound.

✔ Capacious removable battery.

✔ Decent camera.

✔ Price: now in online stores you can buy a smartphone for just over 11,000 rubles, which is very, very inexpensive.

✔ Accessories are sold in many stores, unlike Meizu U20 , which most sellers have never even seen.

What do I need DID NOT LIKE:

✘ Android on board. This is the main reason why I didn’t take one last year Samsung Galaxy A7 , although I understand perfectly well that it is better than Chinese Meizu U20 . Meizu also has Android, but with a completely different shell, the usability of which is as good as the moon for a regular Android. But this, again, is solely my opinion.

✘ The design, like other Samsungs, is not for everyone.

It’s hard to say whether I recommend buying last year’s smartphone... If you love Samsung, are looking for a screen of at least 5.5 inches, do not require top-end characteristics from your phone and want to save money, then, of course, I RECOMMEND! In all other cases, I think it’s worth choosing a more modern model (for which you’ll have to pay more).

I wish I could Samsung Galaxy J7 I didn’t buy it: I like the different design and the operating system is especially important.

Thank you all for your attention!

Today we received for review another smartphone from the budget “J” line from the South Korean manufacturer. Despite the fact that the device is a solution from an inexpensive line, its price already borders on mid-segment smartphones. Let's try to figure out the reason for the not-at-all-budget price in our review today.

Packaging and equipment of the device

The smartphone hits store shelves in a classic white branded box. Its design, as always, is minimalist, and the materials are pleasant to the touch. The name of the device is printed on the front side.

On the back of the box, in Russian, the main advantages of the model, brief characteristics and a minimum amount of legal information are noted.

Removing the top packaging reveals the smartphone itself, covered in shipping stickers. Underneath there is a folding tray, opening which we will see the package included with the smartphone:

The entire delivery set is made of pleasant, high-quality plastic in white. The headset is made in the form of plug-in headphones with some semblance of repeating the structure of the auricle. No ear pads are provided. The sound quality of the headphones is very dull, suitable only for telephone conversations; for this purpose, the headset has a single button to answer and turn off the call.

Appearance and ergonomics of the device

The device is made in the same style with most of the company's devices. However, if the user is at least a little familiar with the line of smartphones from Samsung, he will immediately understand that the device is a budget class one. In my case, the device is golden in color; in addition to it, black and white smartphones of this model are sold on the Russian market.

The front panel is made almost identical to the previous generation. The main part of the front panel is occupied by a display with fairly thin frames. This has a great effect on the ergonomics of the device.

I have never used devices with such a diagonal and was pleasantly surprised that even with one hand you can use a smartphone with some skill. For those who have small hands, there is a special window mode and then there are no problems at all using the smartphone with one hand. This is partly due to the thin body, less than eight millimeters thick.

A small minus for me was the screen recessed into the metal frame. It does not have any curves or effects, but the frame around it has sharp edges at the junction with the glass. Therefore, when you work with the edge of the screen, you constantly touch the metal frame; although this is not critical, it certainly does not have a positive effect on ergonomics.

Above the screen there is a front camera, a speaker, and proximity sensors. The automatic brightness control sensor, according to Samsung, is the prerogative of more expensive lines of mobile devices. But instead, the device is equipped with a front-facing flash, which is useful for taking selfie photos even in complete darkness. There is also no notification indicator, for a device with a price above ten thousand this should be in bad taste in 2017.

Below the screen are standard buttons, a menu of open applications, a home button and a back button. The central home button is mechanical and does not have a fingerprint sensor or other functionality. The touch buttons on the edges work flawlessly, but are not backlit.

The frame of the smartphone is made of metal. This gives the smartphone solidity and pleasantly cools the hand. “Antennas” are painted on the top and bottom edges of the device to create the illusion of a non-separable body. The top side does not have any connectors or sensors; the left side has a separate volume rocker, and the right side has a power button. The buttons are made of plastic and have quite a lot of play, which makes the feeling quite unpleasant. However, this does not in any way affect their performance; they press clearly and with good feedback. The bottom edge carries a 3.5mm audio jack, a microUSB connector and a microphone.

The back cover is made of plastic, stylized as brushed metal. The main camera is located at the top, to the left of it is a metal grille for the multimedia speaker, and to the right is a flash-LED. Below is the company logo in shiny stamping. At the very bottom of the cover is the DUOS logo, which indicates the presence of two SIM card slots in the device.

Having removed the cover, we are presented with a fairly large battery that can be removed without special tools. To the right of it, in a row, there are separate slots for two SIM cards and a separate one for a microSD card. A bold plus model in the age of combined slots.

The plastic cover is very thin and fragile, you need to be careful when removing it. A large number of latches are placed very tightly around the perimeter of the lid, so when assembled the device does not make any crunches, squeaks or sounds. In general, the build quality is at a good level, except for the play of the mechanical control buttons.

Display

The device has a 5.5-inch display made using proprietary SuperAMOLED technology. The screen resolution is not high, 1280x720 pixels. Not the maximum smoothness of fonts, after switching from high-resolution devices, is immediately noticeable. However, a pixel density level of about 270 ppi provides a completely sufficient level for comfortable use of the device.

Otherwise, this is a classic SuperAMOLED display, which is rightfully recognized as the best in terms of performance ratio. The colors are rich and bright, in the settings you can select screen modes, which changes the contrast and adds either warm shades, or, on the contrary, makes the image blue. There is no automatic brightness, as mentioned above. All adjustments are made manually. The minimum brightness is not low enough, in complete darkness it is unpleasant to use the device, and your eyes get tired quickly. Maximum brightness is activated by the “outdoor” mode; it turns off automatically after 15 minutes of screen inactivity. The image is easy to read even in bright sun.

There is no change when tilting the device, as expected. There is no loss of brightness, nor is there any color inversion. The top of the screen is covered with protective glass. The manufacturer does not provide information about which one. But during the use of the smartphone, no scratches or abrasions appeared. The oleophobic coating is excellent; fingerprints remain on the screen very reluctantly and are wiped off very easily. Your finger glides across the glass easily, making using your smartphone a pleasure. The sensor supports up to ten simultaneous touches.

Device performance

The test device has a processor of the company's own production. This is Exynos 7870, which has eight cores that are capable of operating simultaneously at maximum frequency. ARM Mali-T830 is used as a graphics accelerator. For our market, only this solution is available, while for some other regions the smartphone comes with Snapdragon 617 from Qualcomm.

After testing the device in the synthetic AnTuTu test, we got a result of 45458 points. Normal values for this class of devices. During work and games, the smartphone practically did not heat up, the system works very stably.

Despite the fact that the system is not a gaming system at all, due to good optimization and low screen resolution, you can play fresh games. For example, in World Of Tanks stable performance is observed up to medium graphics settings. If the settings are set to maximum, the average frame rate drops to 15-20 frames, even dropping to 10. It’s quite possible to play Asphalt 8 at minimum settings, but the device often freezes in the game menu. Not very pleasant moments, but if you need to kill time, a smartphone will definitely help with this.

Software

The smartphone out of the box ran Android 6.0.1 operating system with TouchWiz shell. This is the well-known latest version of this interface, since about a year ago the company abandoned this shell and offered users a new solution.

Its main difference is minimalism in design and a general reduction in details in hardware resources. The smartphone has received an almost uncut version of the shell; it is very similar to the one in the company's flagship Galaxy S8. Everything works very smoothly and beautifully, with very nice screensavers when opening applications or galleries. I did not notice any obvious shortcomings or crookedness of the update.

Sound and multimedia

The quality of the multimedia speaker is good, but its volume is average. Even if the device is in the inside pocket of your jacket, you will not be able to hear the call in all conditions. In addition, its location is also depressing. Now almost all modern smartphones have a speaker at the ends of the device so that the sound is closer to the user when watching videos or gaming. Here, not only is the speaker itself weak, but the sound comes in the opposite direction from the user.

The earpiece is also quite quiet. It is quite difficult to talk in a noisy place. It doesn’t make any noise or extraneous sounds, and thank you for that. The headphones sound good, but without any special revelations. With the included headset, of course, it costs nothing to listen to. However, having replaced the headphones with more serious ones, in my case they were Sennheiser CX 300-II, the device began to play very well. There are all proprietary sound settings, ranging from an equalizer, bass and treble controls, as well as various sound “enhancers” and surround sound effects.

For conversations and recording audio tracks, the smartphone has one microphone on the bottom edge. Works correctly, sensitivity is normal. The interlocutors did not complain about voice audibility. When working with navigation, I also perceived commands correctly. Vibration alert is above average.

Gallery and video viewing work smoothly, no stutters or lags. The application is standard for the company's smartphones. Playing video up to FullHD is not a problem for the device. The YouTube app works great.

Communications and wireless interfaces

The device received support for working with two micro SIM cards. There is only one radio module, this should be taken into account. Both cards support LTE. In the menu, you can select in advance from which card voice calls will be sent, which will be responsible for SMS messages, and which will allow you to access the Internet.

There were no problems with calls or mobile Internet. Communication works perfectly, on par with other devices. The device operates in Wi-Fi networks at a frequency of 2.4 GHz; there were no problems with disconnecting connections. Bluetooth also works correctly and quickly connects to all available devices.

Navigation works great. The smartphone supports GPS, A-GPS and Glonass. Finding a location takes place in a matter of seconds, and I rate my work as a navigator excellent.

Camera

The camera interface is standard for the company's smartphones. There are various modes, including manual settings. There is a set of ten filters for the image. I worked with the camera in automatic mode.

The main camera has a 13 megapixel sensor. The manufacturer claims that the lens aperture is f/1.9, which should have a good effect on shooting at dusk and at night. In addition, there is autofocus.

In the daytime, the camera leaves an extremely positive impression. The resolution is enough to get details. In addition, the pictures are very accurate and the color rendition is natural. I really liked the quality of the resulting landscapes. Macro photography also works flawlessly.

In the evening, the quality of photographs certainly decreases. But you can take an interesting photo in twilight conditions. The flash is quite weak, so you shouldn't count on it too much. But good aperture and software processing do their job, extracting maximum light. Of course, the camera is far from expensive devices, but it definitely earns the money that retail chains ask for a smartphone

The front camera received a module measuring five megapixels. There is no autofocus, but there is a set of facial enhancements. Like the entire “J” line, the smartphone has a front LED backlight. Thanks to this, selfies can be taken in complete darkness. The quality of the resulting photos is standard for the price category, I didn’t see any revelations, but it’s also impossible to say that the camera is weak. There is a wide-angle shooting mode, so your entire large group will fit into the frame.

The video frames are of very good quality. Even at night, the image remains smooth. The detail is not great, but the quality of the video frames is definitely enough for amateur videos.

Memory and battery life

The device is presented in only one version, with 16 gigabytes of internal memory. About 10 gigabytes are available to the user. For some users this volume will be enough, but most will prefer to install a memory card, since such an option is available. Supports installation of microSD cards up to 128 GB.

The device contains a removable 3300 mAh battery. Despite the increase in battery capacity and the metal frame of the device, its weight remained at the level of its predecessor - just under 170 grams. This was made possible due to the increased voltage to 4.40 V. This will most likely have dire consequences for owners of smartphones that are no longer fresh. Usually, even with a lower voltage, batteries do not show miracles of endurance and very quickly lose their useful volume. In this case, we can say that the battery will not last more than a year and will need to be replaced. Fortunately, complete disassembly of the device is not required and you can do it yourself.

Optimization and battery capacity do their job. The manufacturer claims that the device can play video for more than 20 hours on a single charge. There is video confirmation of this fact on the YouTube video hosting network. And in everyday life, the smartphone is very long-lasting. He easily survives until the evening even with games and work in the browser. On average, it can easily withstand up to 10 hours of active screen time. In addition, there are various energy saving systems that are standard on the company's smartphones. But there is no fast charging in the smartphone. The device charges from the included charger in about 2.5 hours.

Results

Samsung has firmly established its position in the mid-price segment of the market. It’s not for nothing that the junior smartphone of the “J” line became the company’s best-selling device worldwide this year. And the oldest model in the line is not far behind.

The device has a lot of advantages. These include: high quality display matrix, metal body frame, good photo quality and selfie flash. In addition, two SIM cards are supported, and the device shows excellent battery life.

The disadvantages include the low clarity of the display, as well as the absence of a notification indicator and a light sensor. For users looking to purchase an inexpensive phablet, this would be a good option. Of course, there is a large selection of “gray” devices from Chinese manufacturers on the market, but the end user must set his own priorities.

Thank you for providing the device online store

Samsung Galaxy J7 is an entry-level smartphone for users who do not need fancy hardware. The device occupies a starting position in the company’s line, but judging by its cost, it can be regarded as a “strong mid-ranger.” This is a device with a good, high-quality display, which has on board everything you need for high-quality and trouble-free daily use.

Model

Design and management

Samsung Galaxy J7 has four body colors: black, blue, gold and pink. A smartphone in a black case looks a little more advantageous and more solid. Blue and gold look interesting, but a bit flashy, like pink. The body is made of durable metal, without gaps or backlash of individual parts. During use, the coating applied to the body does not wear off. At the back there are inserts for antennas; they are made of plastic.

There is a button on the front responsible for Owner's fingerprint recognition. The fingerprint sensor works quickly, no false positives have been detected. The front location of the sensor turned out to be a very convenient solution; you have to reach for it from the back, but here it is always accessible. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the phone fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. Relatively small size and weight allow you to carry the device in your jeans or trousers pocket.

On the front there is also a camera, flash and light level sensor. Unfortunately, there is no backlight for the virtual keys. The volume and power buttons are placed on separate sides so that the owner does not confuse them when pressing “blindly”. There is a speaker above the power button. The solution is unusual, but it allows you to maintain internal ergonomics. The charging and headphone jack are located at the bottom. The overall impression of the design and controls of the Samsung Galaxy J7 is quite pleasant.

Screen Features

The display of the Samsung Galaxy J7 is made according to proprietary SuperAMOLED technology. Compared to last year's revision, the screen has improved noticeably. Colors have become brighter and more saturated. In addition, they can now be manually adjusted up to 350 nits. If you select the automatic mode, say, “on the street,” then the indicators will be increased to 550 nits.

Important! A big plus of this model is its excellent readability in natural light. In the sun, the screen practically does not go blind.

Color rendering has become more natural, the gamma is bright and voluminous. Special praise should be given ability to manually adjust white balance. If you don’t want to tinker with the settings, you can set the automatic mode, there are several of them in the settings.

The Samsung Galaxy J 7 phone has a screen diagonal of 5.5 inches. The resolution is FHD matrix, and the gadget doesn’t require more. If we compare the device with its main competitors in 2016-2017, its significant superiority will become obvious.

This budget model has Always On Display option. A pleasant surprise, considering that it is more typical for flagships and some smartphones in the company’s mid-price segment. The implementation of the “non-switchable display” is not without its drawbacks; rather, this is the point when one should rejoice at its presence. What immediately catches your eye is the greatly reduced ability to select the information that will be displayed on the screen. In this case, it all comes down to showing the time, message notifications and a few application icons. The clear advantage is low power consumption in this display mode.

In general, the display of the Galaxy J7 smartphone is its clear advantage, which distinguishes it from other gadgets in this price category.

Memory and performance

The specifications of the Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 show good performance. Three gigabytes of RAM allow you to keep several applications running at once. The amount of internal memory is quite small by today's standards, but the available 16 gigabytes are easily expand with a memory card. The device supports flash drives up to 256 gigabytes.

The device's processor remains the same as in last year's version. This decision was made because the architecture has proven itself well. The available capacity is sufficient for everything needed. Besides, The chipset does not overheat, and this is a very important indicator for an entry-level processor.

On a note! The smartphone scores 47 thousand points in Antutu. Not a bad result for an inexpensive device.

The power of the Samsung Galaxy G 7 is enough for undemanding games and most applications. It is possible to play the latest games in the gaming industry, but they will not work at maximum graphics settings. However, the device was not positioned as a gaming device.

operating system

The Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 phone runs on the Android operating system version 7.1. At the time of the model's release, Nougat was the current OS for most new products. Of course, the interface has undergone some modifications by Samsung. This is not a completely pure Android, but it is not a full-fledged graphical shell either. Unlike the "empty" OS here There are several software improvements, which are inherent in many mid- and high-end smartphones. An example would be the AoD mentioned above.

Important! There is full hardware and software support for two SIM cards, which is very convenient. Users who are used to switching between accounts to use different numbers will be pleasantly surprised by the improved synchronization.

Most of the Android OS features have not undergone major changes. The user has a phone with a simple, understandable and very convenient system in his hands. And, importantly, with a minimum of pre-installed applications.

Call and sound quality

Since Samsung Galaxy J7 smartphones are a budget solution, you definitely shouldn’t expect exclusive sound from them. The available equalizer is capable of processing different bitrates, depending on the format and quality being played. The settings provide a minimum level of comfort, but lovers of high-quality sound will definitely pass this device by.

As for the signal reception level, everything is at a decent level. During a conversation the user hears his interlocutor perfectly. The signal level rarely drops to a low level. When switching to speakerphone, the speaker may distort your voice slightly.

Communication with navigation satellites is quite fast. The error level is low, so the phone is quite can be used instead of a navigator. The transmission of Internet traffic is not satisfactory. Measurements show that the gadget provides excellent throughput in third generation networks.

Battery and autonomy

The Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 smartphone is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 3600 mAh. This is slightly more than last year's version. On the other hand, the screen diagonal has grown. However, the increase in diagonal is compensated by a change in the manufacturing technology of the matrix itself. SuperAMOLED has slightly reduced power consumption.

At the maximum brightness level, the smartphone is capable of play the video for nine hours. Of course, if all communication modules are active, the operating time will be significantly reduced. However, user reviews indicate improved battery life compared to last year's revision. On average, this figure increased by 20%.

There is no fast charging function, but there are energy-saving modes. They can significantly improve autonomy. On average, under moderate load, the phone lasts about a day or a little more.

Camera specifications

The Samsung Galaxy J7 review should end with the parameters of the photo module. The main camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels. This is quite enough to create good pictures in natural light. In a dark room, using a flash, it will most likely not be possible to achieve high-quality photography. However, in comparison with last year’s model, progress is, again, obvious. Manual settings now allow set white balance. There are several more options for debugging at your discretion.

The front camera has also increased its resolution, now it has 13 megapixels versus 5 in the previous model. This is quite enough to create a high-quality self-portrait. Built-in set of filters and high-quality flash will help all selfie lovers take many interesting and bright pictures.

Conclusion

The device feels quite confident in its class. It costs a little more than Chinese devices, but outperforms them in quality. At the time of its release, the model gained great popularity and remained in high demand for a long time. Smartphone price at the time of sales ranged from 15 to 20 tr. depending on the store. There are no differences in technical characteristics within the model; the user can only choose the color.

  • high autonomy;
  • there is a fingerprint sensor;
  • the case does not heat up.
  • there is no possibility of fast charging;
  • little internal memory;
  • outdated processor model.

In which the Galaxy J5 (2016) did not perform well. Well, let's see how the flagship J-series smartphone turned out this year.

Let's take a quick look at the characteristics of the device and move on:

The device came out quite heavy. From its brothers from the older family - Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 - it received a FullHD Super AMOLED matrix, albeit with a different diagonal: 5.5 inches versus 5.7 in the Galaxy A7 and 5.2 in the Galaxy A5. The processor here is simpler, and the permanent memory is not enough - only 16 GB, which, however, is partially compensated by a separate slot for a memory card. In addition, the smartphone is not waterproof. The smartphone is also distinguished by the presence of an outdated microUSB connector and a very large weight for such a diagonal.

Contents and box

The device is delivered in the usual blue box, inside which, in addition to the standard set in the form of the smartphone itself, a charger, a cable, a paper clip and a set of documents, Samsung also included headphones. A very nice bonus for a budget series device.

Design

Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) is a monolithic aluminum slightly glossy “brick”. The case, it should be noted, is very easily soiled, fingerprints stick to it. The device fits well in the hand, the material of the case does not slip, although, of course, it cannot be called light and holding the smartphone in one hand for a long time is problematic. The lock button is located on the right side, the volume control buttons are on the left. Next to the lock button there is a hole for the speaker. I must admit, this is a very unusual design decision.

There is a physical Home button combined with a fingerprint scanner. On the left and right sides there are touch buttons for calling up the list of running applications and a “back” button. At the bottom end, in the center, there is a microUSB connector; to the right of it is a 3.5 mm jack. There is nothing on the top edge except plastic inserts. Overall, the device is pleasant to the touch, although we personally did not like the fact that the headphone jack is located at the bottom.

Screen

The screen in the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) is made using traditional Super AMOLED technology. The display diagonal is 5.5 inches and the resolution is 1920x1080. Color rendition is pleasant, the screen does not fade in the sun, although it is inferior in saturation to more premium models. There is Always On technology, which allows you to display information on a locked smartphone. There are no complaints about the matrix: for a budget model the screen is very good.

Operating system and software

The operating system is Android 7.0. Samsung has its own shell and differs from stock Android. By default, applications from Google, Microsoft and, of course, Samsung are installed. However, there are not so many of them and the extra applications are not an eyesore. Menus and animation sometimes do not keep up with user actions - this is due to weak hardware (but more on that below). Otherwise the shell is pleasant to use.

Processor and memory

We have come to the most important drawback of the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017). The processor performance of this smartphone cannot be called sufficient. Synthetic tests confirm this. Of course, it is enough to run a navigator or applications for social networks, but it is hardly capable of more. In 3D games, especially demanding ones, the smartphone will slow down and skip frames. Only setting the graphics settings to the lowest can somehow smooth out the picture.

Surprisingly enough RAM was installed - as much as 3 GB, which is very good for a budget A-brand smartphone. But the permanent memory is only 16 GB, which is very little in the current realities with increased appetites for even simple applications. Of course, you can install a separate memory card, especially since there is a separate slot for it (which is not bad), but, firstly, its speed will be lower than that of the built-in one, and secondly, not all applications still support transfer to a memory card.

Fingerprint's scanner

As mentioned above, the scanner in this model is combined with a physical Home button and is located on the front surface of the smartphone. It works great and recognizes fingerprints with a light touch. There are no complaints about him.

Interfaces

Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) has the standard set of a mid-budget smartphone: it has Wi-Fi Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (operates in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands), Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS (also A-GPS, GLONASS and BDS), 3.5mm headphone jack. There is compatibility with ANT+, support for Samsung Pay (which, however, has slightly lost its relevance with the introduction of Android Pay). But they left the old charging connector - microUSB 2.0, which is a little sad. FM radio is also supported.

Battery

What we can praise the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) for is its autonomy. In video playback mode at medium brightness, the smartphone lasted 16 hours. This operating time on a single charge is achieved thanks to the sAMOLED matrix and a capacious 3600 mAh battery. Unfortunately, fast charging is not provided; the standard charger only supports a current of 1.5 A at a voltage of 5 V. Using it, the smartphone will be charged to maximum in about 2 hours 20 minutes.

Communication and sound

The sound quality of the speaker can be considered good, but slightly quiet even at maximum volume. When talking, the interlocutor can be heard well, and he can also hear us perfectly. Unfortunately, there is no noise reduction, which results in some problems when talking in the wind.

As mentioned, the smartphone comes with headphones. Exactly the same ones are supplied with Galaxy A series smartphones. They sound pleasant: the highs, mids and lows are balanced. I can’t even believe that they included good headphones with such a budget solution.

The smartphone supports LTE bands 7 and 20, which are the main ones in the Russian Federation. Unfortunately, there is no support for the 38 band, but in most cases you will not need it.

Camera

The resolution of both cameras - the main and the front - is 13 megapixels, and flashes are installed next to both. We like Samsung's tradition of putting cameras of equal resolution on its smartphones. Of course, the main camera takes much better pictures, but the attention to the front camera cannot but please fans of selfies and Instagram. In addition, the front camera in combination with the flash produces very good photos.

Various shooting modes are supported, including PRO mode with manual settings.

You can judge the quality of the photographs from the pictures below:

Of course, the photo quality cannot be called excellent - the camera of the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) is far from being up to par with its older brothers, but the quality of the images cannot be called bad either. HDR mode helps in some situations. By the way, when HDR is turned on, the camera shoots quite quickly, which is surprising. In general, both the main and front cameras shoot quite well. The front camera will even be better than that of competitors in this price segment.

Verdict

The smartphone is not the best in its class, that's for sure. At a very high cost, it offers very weak hardware. On the other hand, it has many advantages: good build, excellent screen, separate slot for microSD card, good camera, capacious battery, latest version of Android, excellent fingerprint scanner, availability of Samsung Pay and Android Pay. In general, it can be recommended to people who can’t stand the “Chinese” (sometimes for good reasons) and completely trust only A-brand products, and also do not play games, but do not have the money to buy flagship solutions. We, in turn, would advise adding 4-5 thousand rubles and taking the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017), which performed very well in

Time does not stand still. Communication methods are constantly changing. And so, in 1876, the first telephone was created. Of course, it was different from modern ones. It weighed about 3 kg and could only be used to make calls. But scientists worked tirelessly, and in 1998 they created the first mobile device with a touch screen. 20 years later, technology has made a leap, and there are already countless such devices. When we go out into the street in a city or village, we see people with neat, not large-looking, lightweight gadgets.

Samsung, Huawei, Apple are all the best manufacturers of our time. Their products filled store shelves, television, radio, after all, won the hearts of millions of people on the planet.

So which company is better to purchase products from? The answer is simple - Samsung. It has taken a leading position because it produces mobile devices of various prices. We suggest you look at the rating of high-quality smartphones Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo and J7 (2017), and you can answer the question of which model is better to buy at the end of the article.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo

The model name sounds very nice. The “Neo” part in Latin means “new, young,” and it’s true that the new product first hit the shelves of shopping centers in 2017.

Design

The design is quite attractive. The monolithic body is made of plastic. Due to its streamlined elements, the gadget is comfortable to hold in your hand. On the back there is a rear camera, flash and a hole for the speaker. On the right side there is a power button, and on the left side there is a volume control button. On the front, lower part of the display there are three buttons: on the right and left sides - touch, in the middle - mechanical. Above the screen there is one front camera, a flash, proximity sensors and a speaker. At the bottom of the smartphone: a micro USB input for a charger, an opening for headphones, and one microphone is embedded. In addition to black, there are gray and gold.

Equipment

Equipment is one of the most important points. When you open the package, you will immediately see the smartphone, under which there will be all the extras. Putting it aside, you will find instructions, along with a warranty card. Next, in a small but capacious box, the developers included headphones with a microphone, a 1.5A power supply, a micro USB cable, and a battery, or a battery bag. If the bag is empty, do not be alarmed, it comes from the battery that is already in the device. Please note that developers may change components without notice.

Some features

The popularity of models does not always indicate their quality. We suggest you consider the characteristics before running to the store to buy. Productive, but with modest characteristics, the device brought functionality to the market. The device is equipped with an eight-core processor, has two slots for installing a SIM card and one for a memory card. The case cover opens, allowing you to remove or replace the battery without any difficulty. Freely connects to Wi-Fi, has a GPS navigator. The phone weighs 170 grams, width is 78.6 mm, height is 152.4 mm. It is lightweight and quite comfortable, unlike its counterparts.

Camera

The camera is an important part, especially for girls. After all, sometimes you want to record a minute of your life on your phone’s memory. To do this, a front and rear camera were installed in the gadget. The main camera has 13 megapixels, which is quite enough to capture a colorful moment and convey all the sensations that you experienced. Unlike the main one, the front camera has 5 megapixels, with which you can take amazing selfies! And autofocus will make the process easier and faster. To the question “how does he take photos?” — people are happy to show high-quality photographs.

Display

Super AMOLED screen. Diagonal - 5.5 inches. HD resolution will allow you to see the image in rich color. Control over the viewing angle will provide comfort when using the gadget. The screen is also famous for its efficiency when using dark colors. Its dimensions allow you to use your smartphone for games. For example, Super AMOLED produces green in most displays, but the Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo produces images in normal, closer to realistic color. If something seemed like a minus to you, then don’t be upset, read on.

Performance

As mentioned above, all disadvantages can be covered by advantages. About the advantages: the performance of the gadget is quite good. There is an eight-core Exynos 7870 Octa processor with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. Memory card type - MicroSD (TransFlash). The phone's built-in memory is 16 gigabytes, and the RAM is 2 gigabytes. The device also supports memory cards up to 256 gigabytes. This is quite enough for active games and constant viewing of videos.

Autonomy

Autonomy, nothing without it. After all, why buy a device if it is chained to an outlet? This smartphone allows you to walk for about 80 hours while listening to music. Cool, isn't it?) The battery capacity is 3000 mAh. This is enough not only for 80 hours of audio recordings, but also for 11 hours of Internet use. A reliable Li-ion battery, it is advisable not to allow it to completely discharge, but to operate it up to 10%. It is recommended not to use the device at a temperature of -20 degrees, as the aging process of the battery accelerates sharply.

Sound and video

When discussing autonomy, we started talking about audio. Unfortunately, one of the disadvantages is the poor sound. For those who like to watch or listen to video/music louder, you will need speakers. Well, or the developers have provided headphones that are sold along with the phone. The music will definitely sound a little better in them. Fortunately, not everything is so bad; during a conversation, the smartphone perfectly performs the function of good audibility in both directions.

The 1280x720 pixel resolution perfectly displays small elements on the screen. It is possible to view videos in 1920x1080 (Full HD) resolution.

Interface

The fast Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo allows you to work in multi-window mode. The size of the windows can be adjusted. With this function, it will be convenient for you to simultaneously watch a video and manage the settings. Speaking of settings, there is one more feature - “double account”. You can configure it to use two messengers for different purposes.

Screen unlocking is standard, like most smartphones. In general, there are no more unique additions.

average price

On the Internet, reviews say that the smartphone is sold at an inflated price. The selection criteria do not deceive. Budget options of the same year can be purchased much cheaper and with better characteristics. For example, our Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo sells for $200, and a phone of a different model (2017) with improved characteristics can be bought for $150-200. Even the same J7 (2017) is purchased for $150.

Samsung Galaxy J7

But still, despite the price, let's summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo smartphone.

Advantages:

  • Eight-core processor with a frequency of 1.6 GHz;
  • Super AMOLED matrix;
  • Design;
  • User-friendly interface;
  • Dual account function;
  • Good autonomy;
  • Convenient diagonal, or overall dimensions.

Flaws:

  • Unjustified price in relation to other budget gadgets of the same year;
  • Bad sound;
  • Modest equipment.

As a result, we see not a bad smartphone, with more advantages than disadvantages. But is it much different from its predecessor J7 (2017), which is much cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo.

Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017)

We consider everything in the same order. The name sounds much simpler. The predecessor also saw display cases for the first time in 2017, but a little earlier than the Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo. Both smartphones are budget options. So let's start with the design.

Design

The material used to make the case is plastic, although it very much resembles metal. The durable, matte plate will not fall apart from impact. There is a power button on the right side, and a volume control button on the left. On the back of the smartphone are installed: a camera, a flash, a slot for the speaker. At the bottom of the display there are two touch and one mechanical buttons. At the top of the glass screen there are: a proximity sensor, a flash, an earpiece, and a front camera. Two openings were introduced on the lower side of the phone. One for micro USB, the other for headphones (3.5 mm). A small, discreet microphone is located on the left side of the USB connector.

Equipment

The equipment is no different. Everything is still packed in a small, capacious box: headphones, battery, instructions, documentation, micro USB cable, 1.5A charger. By the way, the cord length is standard, and the warranty period is 12 months from the date of purchase of the gadget.

Camera

The developers took care of our selfies and installed a 5 MP front camera into the device. In good lighting, selfies turn out great, but in an apartment, photos can be better. The same goes for the main camera. It has 13 megapixels and a flash, focusing is automatic, sharpening takes about 1-2 seconds. How does he take photographs? At night it could be better, during the day it’s simply amazing, sometimes you can’t even tell that it’s a 13 megapixel rear camera.

Performance

Despite the fact that this is a budget option, the performance is not inferior to its future competitor. Eight-core Samsung Exynos 7580 processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz. Core type Cortex-A53 (64bit). Such characteristics will easily handle a complex game, for example, GTA.

The memory is a little worse, since the built-in memory is 16 gigabytes, and the RAM is 1.5 gigabytes. Using micro microSD you can expand up to 128 gigabytes and enjoy huge data storage.

Please note that the gadget has a dual sim function, which allows you to use two SIM cards without swapping them. There is really one drawback. When there is a conversation on 1 SIM card, the other is out of range, that is, inaccessible. In addition to SIM cards, the device offers the so-called “exit to the world” - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS navigator.

Interface, display, sound and video

Unless there is an annoying menu button. There are no more features. Therefore, we suggest that in this section we also consider the display, sound and video, since there is something to tell about them.

The Super AMOLED matrix does not reflect green or blue colors. The glass has a special coating that leaves almost no fingerprints. A 5.5-inch screen is ideal for watching movies. Both inexpensive new products reproduce video/photos in HD quality.

The sound is not bad, calls are heard well, during a conversation, the audibility function in both directions is excellent. For a music lover, the quality of audio recording may seem insufficient, but for everyday use this is quite enough.

Videos, if possible, will be produced in HD (1280×720) quality. The battery charge lasts up to 8 hours while watching videos.

Autonomy

The battery has 3000 mAh. This is enough for two days purely for calls. Unlike its competitor, the J7 (2017) does not have a “fast charging” function.

What is the price

The price is approximately $190. It's up to you to decide which model is better to buy. But in terms of design and not many specifications, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo takes the lead.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo

Where is it profitable to buy and how to choose

Look at your needs and compare them with the characteristics. If they match, then buy the smartphone that you really need.

You can buy it in online stores. It all depends on the country you live in and the cost of delivery. Since the J7 (2017) has already been withdrawn from sales, it can only be found in stores or bought used. Again, I want to remind you that if you don’t need a phone for beauty, then you can buy the J7 (2017), the advantages and disadvantages are almost the same, but the cost is much lower than its competitor Samsung Galaxy J7 Neo.

Example photos taken by J7 (2017)

Advantages:

  • Super AMOLED matrix;
  • Good autonomy;
  • Convenient dimensions.

Flaws:

  • Modest equipment;
  • Annoying menu button that cannot be removed;
  • The camera doesn't take good pictures at night.

Good luck with your choice, thanks for reading this article!
