Programs for receiving and sending SMS messages on iPad.

Apple iPad is a functional, successful and convenient device, one of the shortcomings of which is the inability to work with classic GSM standard messages - SMS and MMS. Many users note the importance of the ability to receive messages on the iPad - this option expands the capabilities of the device. Sending messages using an iPad is profitable in a number of different cases:

How to set up an iPad to receive a call and sms no SIM card.

the phone is completely discharged; there are no funds in your mobile account; there is a desire to discover new capabilities of your own device; speed up typing of long messages thanks to the larger screen.

The iPad (iPod Touch) software does not allow them to send SMS to mobile numbers. This issue can be resolved by working with numerous websites that provide free SMS delivery services. This process is not convenient for everyone - most Apple device users prefer to use VoIP telephony to send messages.

Programs such as Skype, Mail agent, Viber, Hangouts allow you to send messages to subscribers connected to the Internet, but at the same time they are completely useless for those who use only GSM standard communications.

For the lucky owners of devices with iOS 8.1 (or OS X Yosemite), there is no reason to worry - thanks to synchronizing devices using Bluetooth, an iPhone call is displayed on the iPad display (using the HandOff function).

For owners of devices with iOS version higher than 4, a better option would be to implement the standard iMessage messenger. Owners of earlier versions of Apple devices will probably like applications from the App Store that allow you to send or get SMS messages using iPad.

HandOff function running iOS 8.1 (OS X Yosemite)

Developers of modern devices are keen on synchronization, involving all devices in contact with a person in cooperation. Mobile phone, tablet, laptop - now there is no emphasis on one thing.

Thanks to the HandOff function, you can receive messages on your iPad, make calls, and work with documents on three different devices at once. The convenience is that this operation does not require moving from device to device - all configurations in the documents are recorded by each of them.

If you didn’t have time to finish the text or send a message from your laptop, you can finish it on your tablet (finish it and send it using your phone)! Now the Mac platform is synchronized with the iOS platform - all devices of these lines communicate with each other via WiFi in order to perform one, more important function. To do this, all devices within “family sharing” are linked to one iCloud account

Receive and send SMS messages on iPad using the Apple IMessage application.

For owners of “smart devices” with an iOS version higher than version 4, the IMessage application has proven itself to be the most ideal. This program was created specifically for messaging between Apple devices.

This specificity has both advantages and disadvantages. The positive thing is that you don’t have to spend money to exchange SMS. Comfortable usability and the presence of contacts “at hand” allow you to receive or send messages using the iPad at any time, without interrupting important matters.

Watching a movie, listening to music, or carefully working on a document can simply be combined with lively correspondence.

The disadvantage of the IMessage application is that it is aimed only at users of Apple devices. If the user’s relatives or friends use devices on another platform, it will not be possible to “link” them with each other a priori.

Special SMS exchange programs for iPad.

In the Russian AppStore you can download and install the SMS Center program. This app allows you to send up to 30 free SMS per month; exceeding the limit will require certain currency injections from those who like to communicate. To send SMS you have to enter the phone number (on behalf of which they are sent) and go through the verification function.

In addition, for the program to work, you need to be connected to a WiFi/3G network. The disadvantage of the application can be considered the lack of a function for receiving messages on the iPad, as well as the low reliability of its operation.

The EasySMS HD program works with a micro SIM card using a 3G module to connect to the network. You can send only 5 SMS messages to your iPad for free. The program can work with a limited number of mobile operators. The downside is its paid base, limited comparability, and the inevitable synchronization of the microSIM card with a phone or USB modem.

UMS software from Megafon operator allows you to send(receive) SMS and MMS messages using a special web resource that connects contacts from the phone book and social network accounts.

This allows you to switch between correspondence on a GSM network and online services. The advantage of the program is the ability to store all SMS correspondence “in the cloud”, the disadvantage is its low security.

And one of them is the inability to interact with traditional GSM standards messages. That is, you cannot receive SMS directly on the tablet or send it to another person.

Why the manufacturer ignored such an important function, and what to do about it - we’ll try to figure it out in this article.

Many users of an Apple tablet (mini or other model) consider the ability to receive SMS on their gadget to be extremely important. This feature will significantly expand the functionality of the iPad and will be useful in the following situations:

  • when the phone is 100% dead and SMS simply cannot be received;
  • ran out of money in your mobile account;
  • there is a desire to discover new dimensions of using your tablet;
  • the need to quickly type large messages (thanks to a larger display compared to a telephone).

Today it is impossible to send SMS to tablets due to software features (lack of the necessary software). But this issue can be resolved by resorting to one of the resources on the network that provides message delivery services. However, this is not suitable for every user. Most still prefer VoIP telephony technologies. What software uses it - read in the next section.

VoIP telephony programs

They are probably known to everyone. Who hasn't heard of Skype, Mail Agent, Viber, Hangouts? Perhaps only those who are far from modern technologies, and there are few of them today. The listed applications allow you to send SMS to all those who have access to the global network. However, they will be completely unnecessary for those who use only GSM communication options.

For the lucky ones with devices running OS versions 8.1 and older, there is no reason to worry. Thanks to the exchange of data between devices via Bluetooth, the call from the smartphone that is currently incoming is shown on the tablet display. The HandOff option is used for this purpose.

For owners of gadgets with operating system version 4 and higher, the most suitable solution would be to use standard iMessage. If someone uses an earlier version of iOS than the four, they will probably choose something suitable for themselves from the App Store. For older iPad models, selecting an application for sending SMS is still sufficient in the store.

HandOff function

The authors of modern technology are extremely passionate about synchronization processes, involving in cooperation all devices that come into contact with human life. They pay attention to laptops, tablets, and phones—one thing doesn’t stand out.

Thanks to the HandOff functionality, it became possible to receive SMS messages on tablets and send them, make calls, and work with documentation. And all this – on 3 gadgets at the same time. The convenience lies in the fact that the process does not require switching from one device to another. Any change is saved in each of them.

If the user did not have time to type an SMS or send it from a laptop, he can finish the work on a tablet or phone. Nowadays, even the Mac platform communicates effectively with iOS. All elements of these lines are connected to each other via Wi-Fi in order to perform one, most important task. To do this, all devices are attached to a single iCloud account.

Apple iMessage

For owners of “smart” devices running OS 4 and older, this application has proven itself to be the best. It is designed directly for exchanging SMS between iOS devices. This feature has its drawbacks. The advantage is that you will not need to spend money to exchange SMS. Comfortable usability, the necessary contacts are always “at hand”, allowing you to receive and send messages via iPad whenever you want, without taking time away from what’s important. Dynamic correspondence can be carried out in parallel with watching videos, listening to music tracks or printing documentation.

The downside is that it only targets Apple devices. If the user’s friends own gadgets on other operating systems, interaction will not take place.

Special software for SMS exchange with iPad

The Russian segment of the AppStore contains an interesting application called “SMS Center”. Under the conditions of its free use, the user is offered the following list of functions:

  • Sending up to 30 free SMS per month (more for a small fee);
  • The connection condition is the presence of a 3G or Wi-Fi network. No matter what you do, you won’t be able to receive SMS directly on your tablet. To send SMS you will need to enter your cell phone number and confirm your rights to it. Of course, response messages will also be sent there.

After downloading the application to your device, launch it. After this, you will be asked to answer a series of questions. You will need to decide whether you need notifications from the system, and also familiarize yourself with the rules for using the service.

Next, you will need to enter the characters of the telephone number on behalf of which messages will be sent. Then the program will ask you to confirm the number by sending an SMS with a code. This code will need to be entered into the line specially provided for this.

Create a new SMS via iPad

  • In the program window, in the top right corner, look for the icon for creating a new SMS.
  • We click on it and in the pop-up window we enter the phone number where the SMS is sent. You can add it to the list of contacts and then select from those available without entering it again each time.
  • Go to the line just below to type the text and click on the submit button. In such a simple way you were able to send SMS.

After a moment, the message will be displayed to the recipient. It will display the number that you entered at the very beginning when installing the software. Upon receipt, he will be able to immediately see it and understand from whom the message came.

Features of the SMS Center interface

The appearance of the program is attractive and convenient. You can receive messages in one second. The incoming SMS opens in an instant.

In the center is a list of SMS messages sent previously from the tablet. At the bottom right there is an information button with details of the terms of use of the program.

In the settings, you can refuse or agree to accept notifications that messages have been delivered, and also select the option to display characters in the typed text. Here you can also change the phone number on whose behalf the SMS is sent.

What difficulties may arise when working with SMS Center?

Fortunately, there are few of them. The only serious problem with this application is the vulnerability of using the user's phone number for other purposes. For example, purchasing paid subscriptions or adding spam mailings to the list.

However, judging by the reviews, the program works correctly. No additional fees will be charged to the user.

Now you know how to receive SMS on your iPad. Regardless of the mobile operator (MTS or any other), sending SMS from an iPad to an iPad is an absolutely realistic task. Receiving SMS, as well as sending SMS from an iPad mini, is possible only if you have the appropriate software. If you are wondering why SMS messages do not come from your iPad. Or you cannot receive them on your device - check to see if the desired program is working correctly. First of all, let's see if the installation was done correctly. If problems are found, you should perform the installation again.

How to disable duplicate SMS on iPad?

Sometimes such a nuisance happens that the message is duplicated on all iOS devices of the user. The same can happen with calls. Agree, it’s not very pleasant when two or three phones ring at the same time?

When you disable the duplication function, you must go through the following steps:

  • Go to the settings of the tablet that acted as the initial recipient of the SMS/call.
  • Select the cellular call switch and deactivate it.

This innovation in iOS 5 is also worth talking about separately. iOS 5 introduced the iMessage application (messages), which allows users of iDevice to exchange messages. This is both a plus and the only serious drawback of this built-in application.

The first step is to look at the application settings, and then move on to the application itself.

Settings -> iPad

Enables/disables the messaging feature. Leave it on.

Read receipt- enable if you want a read receipt to be sent to senders after reading.

Receive on- here you can add or change the address for receiving messages. That is, if you and your friends have one email in their address book, then this email should be entered here. If there are several emails, then you can add them all.

Show thread- enable if you want messages to have a subject (any message can consist of a subject and a message body).

That's all the settings - go to the iMessage program itself. Sergei Volgin volunteered to test the application with me for review, for which we are especially grateful.

Adding a person to communicate in iMessage. You can select from the address book, or manually enter his email address. Click on the button marked in the screenshot below and add your email in the field on the right. If you already have a contact in your address book, click the blue plus sign and select it.

Then in the form above the keyboard we type the Subject of the message (you don’t have to type it) and the message itself below:

Press the button Send

The message is sent very quickly.

Important: The number of messages is not limited by anything! You only pay for your traffic. If you have an unlimited tariff, do not pay anything. Messages are sent and received on iPad over both Wi-Fi and 3G.

Messages can be deleted or forwarded (to do this, click the arrow button in the upper right corner).

The application allows you to send photos (both from the album and taken with the camera from the program) and videos, as well as contacts.

Take a look at the screenshot below. If you see three dots, it means the other person is preparing to send you a message and is currently typing it. You can also see the delivery status in messages.

As a rule, the iPad does not have the function of sending messages to subscribers, because Apple has blocked this feature on the iPad with communication support. Now you will not be able to make calls or send SMS or USSD commands. Why did it happen? - you ask. The fact is that the company implements this function through the SMS Center application, which is located in the AppStore in the Russian segment. The application can be downloaded for free and installed on your iPad. And then you can send SMS from your tablet without any problems.

Features provided by the SMS Center application , consist of granting the rights to send up to 30 free instant messengers in one month. Of course, you can send more SMS, but for a fee. In this case, the tablet must be connected to a WI-FI network or have a 3G connection function. Unfortunately, this application is limited in its ability to receive notifications. In order to send a message, you need to enter not only the subscriber’s number, but also your number, and also provide your rights to the number.

After you have downloaded the application to your iPad, open the “SMS Center” and launch the “Messages” section. Write the text of the messenger, and in order to send it, you need to press and hold it, then activate the “More” position, and then click the arrow symbolizing sending the letter. Finally, enter the name of the recipient of the letter from your contacts and click the send icon.

How to save and delete messages

If you delete a message, you will not be able to recover it later. Therefore, it is important to save messengers if they have value to you. How to do it? Go to the “Settings” menu of your iPad and select the “Messages” section, where you activate the “Leave Messages” function. In the same section, determine the period of time during which the messenger will be saved.

If you decide to delete an SMS or conversation, then during the conversation, press and hold the message that is selected for deletion, and then activate “More”. And then select the “Trash” image and give the “Delete message” command.

When you need to delete all messages on your iPad, follow the same steps, only instead of the “Delete message” command, click the “Delete all” command, which you will find in the upper left corner.

If you decide to delete a recorded conversation, then you need to open the “Messages” section in the “Settings” menu and swipe on it with the left hand, and then select the “Delete” command.

When there is a need to delete a collection of conversations, go to the main “Settings” and select the “Edit” option at the top left of the window, and then execute the “Delete” command by activating the circle at the bottom right.

Typing methods

You can choose a predictive typing method, in which the text will be entered or supplemented with entire sentences at once, and you will only make a couple of taps. The suggestions that will be offered to you as writing options will be formed based on past conversations. Moreover, the writing style will be similar to yours.

If you are not comfortable with this writing style, you can turn off the predictive typing option by pressing and holding the “Predictive typing” option.

When you need to turn off the incoming message notifications option, go to conversations and select the “i” icon in the circle by tapping it. This will enable Do Not Disturb mode. After which a moon symbol will appear near the conversation.

Blocked messages will not appear in existing conversations, but may generally appear from other contacts. In other words, only messages in specific conversations are blocked, and not in general.

In addition, you can block all messages that come to you by activating the “Do not disturb” mode in the “Settings” menu. In this case, set the blocking mode to “Scheduled” or “Manual”. After that, messages will not arrive on the iPad.

How to find attachments

Open your conversation with your interlocutor on your iPad and activate the “i” icon in the circle, which is located in the right corner of the window. There you will find the “Images” and “Attachments” options. To open any image or other attachment, press and hold the photo or painting itself, or other document, so that other options “Delete”, “Copy”, “More” appear.

How to send your location

Using Viber or Skype, you can easily send any messages and attachments from your iPad with Internet access. For those tablets that only support GMS communication, even these programs will not help you send a messenger from your iPad.

Forwarding messages

If you wish, you can set up messenger forwarding on your iPhone. To do this, go to the “Settings” menu of your smartphone, where in the “Messages” section select the “Message forwarding” option. If your MAC computer or tablet has a common registered ID, then just mark the iPad on your device by dragging the activity slider to the right, after which the incoming messenger will be sent to the iPad.

If you have a modern tablet version iOS 8.1 or higher, then thanks to the Bluetooth function you can synchronize your iPad and iPhone, so that in the future incoming calls will be displayed simultaneously on the tablet. Also, thanks to the HandOff function, if you have an iPhone, you can receive and send instant messengers from your tablet.

If you have an iPad with version 4.0 or higher, then you can use such a convenient method as the iMessage messenger, thanks to which you can receive and send messages from the iPad.
