When will the new iOS 12 firmware be released? Accelerated QuickType keyboard. Screen Time feature

Just yesterday it became known that the release date iOS 12 scheduled for September 17. Initially, many analysts predicted that there would be no release before October due to the optimization of the interface for the new iPhone XS Max with a six and a half inch display.

In horizontal orientation, the navigation elements there resemble iPad, which is possible thanks to the large free space. As testers noted earlier, all changes are cosmetic and insignificant, but they look nice.

Which smartphones and tablets will receive iOS 12?

There are practically no technological differences with the eleventh version, so the minimum requirement has been retained - iPhone 5s, or iPad mini 2, Air 1,iPad 5. Music player iPod touch will also receive the long-awaited firmware update. It's nice that Apple does not forget about these gadgets, supplanted by multifunctional and productive smartphones. We all remember the scandal associated with artificially slowing down processors to save battery power. The story is in the past, now the brand intends to more carefully optimize the firmware to use all available resources.

Innovations and release date of iOS 12

The performance gain will be up to 50-60 % , which is determined by running applications. There are minimal differences in the basic menu, but the icons move much more smoothly. In the new generation iPhone The display refresh rate will increase to 120 hertz, which is comparable to professional tablets for artists, designers and animation specialists.

The speed of launching programs will increase by 60 % , and in the case of a camera - for everything 80 % . Working with video chat FaceTime will be simplified thanks to support for group conferences, the maximum number of which will reach 32 people.Battery usage statistics will also be a useful innovation, allowing you to more effectively monitor possible defects, as well as the natural wear and tear of the battery.

Authorization and verification codes, which previously caused inconvenience for some users, are now sent via SMS. To enter it in the browser, just click on the window once if the system determines that both devices are currently being used by the same user. More information will appear after the release, surprises are possible.

Already tomorrow September 17, 2018, the final version of the new one will be released iOS 12, and here are some of the things you should do to make sure you're set up for a great renewal ritual.

What to do first?

For those users who are installing iOS 12 for the first time (have not participated in testing this OS before), we want to tell you some of the things that are necessary or desirable to do to ensure a safe and trouble-free update of your favorite device.

1) It is necessary to check the compatibility of devices. After all, there is no point in waiting for the release of a new version of iOS if your device does not support it. Luckily, iOS 12 supports all devices that are capable of running iOS 11, so this is great news for those who have it installed.

List of devices that support iOS 12:
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone SE and iPhone 5s
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (both generations)
- 10.5" iPad Pro and 9.7" iPad Pro
- iPad 6 and iPad 5
- iPad Air 2 and iPad Air
- iPad mini 2, 3 and 4
- iPod touch 6th generation

2) As they say back up copying There can never be too much, which is why you need to try to save all the data on your Apple device before starting the update process. Even if you are sure that nothing will happen, it is better anyway play it safe. This procedure will not take much time.

3) At the moment, it is not known exactly how much the iOS 12 update will weigh. That is why, if you are going to install it over the air, you need to make sure that you have enough free space on your device. Be sure to check what you have available at least 3 GB space, or better 4 GB. The more free space, the higher the likelihood that everything will go smoothly, otherwise iOS will simply won't install due to lack of memory, forcing you to free up more space. Therefore, it is better to prepare and remove everything unnecessary.

4) The process of downloading and installing the update takes a lot of time and system resources. This is why when installing iOS 12 over the air, it is best to connect to an AC outlet. Although this is not necessary if you have enough battery power on your phone (say 80% or more), but it never hurts to take extra precautions. Plus, after the update you won’t get a dead iPhone or iPad that will need to be charged, but you can immediately start testing.

We tried to collect for you the simplest, but at the same time important tips when updating iOS. I would like to ask right away, will you update to version 12?

At the last presentation, Apple announced the exact release date of the final version of iOS 12. The release will take place today, September 17, presumably at 20:00 Moscow time.

Which devices will iOS 12 work on?

Apple announced the list of smartphones and tablets that will receive an update to iOS 12 back at WWDC 2018. It pleased us with support for the iPhone 5s, a smartphone released five years ago!

Moreover, on this “old man” the system literally flies.

Here are all the Apple gadgets for which iOS 12 will be released:

  • iPhone 5s and iPhone SE
  • iPhone 6, 6s, 7, 8 and corresponding "Plus" models
  • iPhone XS and XS Max (will ship with iOS 12)
  • iPod 6th generation
  • iPad Pro (10.5"", 12.9"" 2nd generation models)
  • iPad Pro 9.7""
  • iPad 5th and 6th generation
  • iPad Air, iPad Air 2
  • iPad mini 2, 3, 4

Agree, Apple behaved with dignity. All smartphones and tablets that received an update to iOS 11 can count on installing iOS 12.

What's new in iOS 12

There are a lot of changes in the new operating system. We talked about them separately. In short, iOS 12:

  • It has received better optimization, due to which it works faster and more stable. You may notice this when launching applications such as Camera or while typing.
  • Improved multitasking menu.
  • Improved optimization for older devices like iPhone 5s and iPad Air.
  • There is now support for Memoji - “live” emoticons created based on the user’s face.
  • Four new Animoji have been added.
  • Improved algorithms for augmented reality on the ARKit 2 engine.
  • Detailed statistics on device usage have appeared.
  • A feature has been added to block notifications for a certain period of time.
  • Advanced Do Not Disturb mode.
  • Improved search in the Gallery, selection of the best photos.
  • Siri shortcuts.
  • Improved privacy protection in the Safari browser. It now has a built-in password generator, just like the desktop version.
  • The iPad now has a voice recorder, iBooks and the Stocks app have received a redesign.
  • iOS 12 offers an auto-fill security code feature (the moment an SMS message arrives, the form is filled in automatically).
  • CarPlay now supports third-party navigation apps.
  • More statistics about battery usage are collected in Battery Settings.

Apple also promises to introduce FaceTime group video calls, supporting up to 32 users. But, according to the company’s official website, this will happen a little later.

What to do before updating?

As per tradition, don’t be lazy to create a backup copy. This can be done either using iTunes on Mac or Windows (after updating it to the latest version), or by sending a backup copy to the cloud.

Please note that the backup may require more than 10 GB of free space. How much exactly? Depends specifically on the load on your device.

Backup using iTunes

Step 1. Open iTunes and connect the device using a USB -> Lightning cable.

Step 2. Select your device from the menu.

Step 3. Select an item Create a copy now, and go to drink coffee - a long process.

Backup using iCloud

Step 1. Connect your smartphone or tablet to Wi-Fi.

Step 2. Open Settings -> iCloud Name.

Step 3. Select iCloud backup< —>Create a backup.

Please note that there must be sufficient free space in iCloud before creating a copy.

P.S. The most important! If you go on shift today, don't forget to bring your charger ;)

Apple has announced the release date for the final version of iOS 12 - in five days, on September 17. Its release was preceded by 12 beta versions for developers and 10 builds for public testing.

The update will be available on the evening of September 17 and can be downloaded over the air: go to Settings → General → Software Updates and select Download and Install. Happy update!

The main innovations of iOS 12

Faster work

iOS 12 includes numerous performance improvements that make everyday tasks faster and more responsive on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The camera turns on 70% faster, the keyboard appears 50% faster, and typing response is even better. Even when system load is high, applications can launch up to two times faster. iOS 12 improves performance on more devices than any previous version, from the iPhone 5s introduced in 2013 to the cutting-edge iPhone X yet.

Memoji and new video effects

In addition to Animoji, you can now create and customize your own Memoji avatars. Choose from a variety of Memoji characters right in Messages and customize them to convey your personality. Ghost, koala, tiger and T-rex have also been added to the existing Animoji. All Animoji and Memoji can now wink and stick out their tongues, reflecting even more different emotions.

New camera effects let you use Animoji, filters, text, and stickers in Messages and FaceTime. Filters such as comic and watercolor add even more expressiveness to photos and videos. New labels and shapes let you add captions and titles to highlight parts of an image. In addition, you can now add any stickers from iMessage sticker packs to your images.

Group FaceTime calls

With Group FaceTime, you can easily chat with up to 40 people at once. Participants can be added at any time during a call: they can join via video or audio from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac—or even participate in a FaceTime voice conversation with an Apple Watch.

Quick access with Siri Shortcuts

Siri Shortcuts help you get things done faster, allowing Siri to work in any app. Siri's smart features can prompt you to take action when you need it, such as ordering your morning coffee or starting your afternoon workout. Users can customize Shortcuts by creating simple voice commands for specific tasks, or download the new Shortcuts app to customize a series of actions across apps and complete them with one tap or a simple voice command. Developers can easily leverage this new capability using the Shortcuts app API.

Do Not Disturb, Notifications and Screen Time

New tools built into iOS 12 help users monitor their interaction time with iOS devices. Do Not Disturb modes automatically turn off at a specific moment, location, or activity, and Do Not Disturb at Night helps you get a better night's sleep by dimming the display and hiding all notifications on your lock screen until the morning.

To help you stay on task, iOS 12 users can customize how notifications are delivered by turning on silent mode or turning off notifications completely. Group notifications give you the ability to view and manage multiple similar notifications.

Screen Time displays detailed information about how long you've been using apps and websites, helping you better manage your device usage. Daily and weekly activity reports include total time spent in specific apps, app usage by category, number of notifications received, and how often the iPhone or iPad is turned on. In addition, Screen Time gives parents access to their children's reports directly on their iOS devices through Family Sharing in iCloud, as well as the ability to limit the time a child can use an iOS device, such as preventing it from being used at night.

iOS 11 only recently came out officially, and the official release date for iOS 12 will be in 12 months. But that doesn't mean we can't watch Apple's future mobile operating system develop. When iOS 12 releases, how long should we wait?

Assuming Apple maintains its previous traditions, the company will show off iOS 12 for the first time during a keynote at the 2018 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Tim Cook will introduce iOS 12, while Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering, will demonstrate new features in iOS.

It is likely that the first beta version of iOS 12 will be available worldwide on the same day as the presentation date. As with recent iterations of iOS, the public beta should arrive later in a couple of weeks. The official release date of iOS 12 in Russia will take place at the time of the release of the new iPhone from Apple in the fall of 2018. What devices will there be?

How iOS 12 can unlock the full potential of the iPhone X

If iPhone X is the future, then iOS is the vehicle that will help us get there. Apple's latest iPhone introduces all sorts of little changes to iOS that make up for the lack of a Home button (such as , power, home indicator, and more). But for the most part, iOS on the iPhone X isn't all that different from what's on the iPhone 8.

In fact, if the iPhone X shows us anything, it's that iOS is a little behind the competition. Apple has refreshed iOS 11 with new gestures and animations, but compared to the sleek and curved OLED screen of the iPhone X, iOS feels less modern. And if the iPhone X sequel is truly going to lead Apple for the next 10 years, then iOS will need to be three steps ahead.

Here are 10 features that iOS 12 could get:

1. Increase your Face ID capabilities

Face ID is very impressive on the iPhone X, but it's not quite perfect. Just like the debut of Touch ID on the iPhone 5s, Face ID is a big step forward, and Apple will undoubtedly improve the speed and reliability of it on future iPhones. Two features we'd like to see are larger recognition angles so we don't have to focus so closely on the screen when unlocking, and the ability to add a second face.

We've had our spouses and kids register fingerprints on Touch ID so they can use our phones without asking for our password (or our fingers), and we'd like to do the same with Face ID.

2. More functionality of the top icons

Okay, we admit it: the ramp camera isn't as bad as we thought. While it still looks a little silly in pictures, it's actually cool in practice. But one thing is for sure: it's not going away anytime soon. If that's the case, we'd love to see Apple add even more functionality to the space around the frame (where the camera sits), turning the panel into a fully interactive space that eliminates the need to frequently open the Control Center.

For example, tapping the battery icon can show how much percent is left or tapping the time to view the date. And here's a really cool feature: the Reddit app Apollo (see above) uses the top-right space to display audio settings.

3. Swipe anywhere to unlock

There's no doubt that in the future our iPhones will automatically go to the home screen as soon as we look at them, but until that day comes, we'll still need to turn them on with our fingers. The problem is that you have to swipe from the very bottom edge of the screen where the home indicator is.

And we often forget about this, which means that we must twice miss to unlock the iPhone. Just like Apple removed the bar in iOS 7 and let us jump to the access screen anywhere, being able to unlock the screen with a double tap will save hundreds of seconds every day.

4. Create a panel for notifications and time

Now that Apple is finally using OLED in the iPhone and can take advantage of the power savings, it's time to display useful information at all times.

This feature has been available on flagship Android devices for years. It's incredibly useful, showing things like time, battery percentage, and notifications, all you need to do is look at your phone. We'd really like to see this feature on the iPhone X. It would be nice if our phones didn't light up every time they needed to alert us that a notification was coming.

5. Fix your keyboard

The iPhone X gives us more screen to work with, but when you're typing a message or email, you don't actually get any benefit over the iPhone 8 Plus. This is because Apple decided to create a keyboard with few features below it so as not to interfere with the home indicator.

Fair enough, but it's pretty much wasted space at this point. Apple put buttons for dictation and keyboards there, but why not add a line of favorite emotions? Or at least let third party developers customize with their own buttons?

Every pixel on the iPhone X is valuable, and it's a shame to have so much free space that isn't used to its full potential.
