When buying a phone, few people pay attention to the presence of an oleophobic coating, preferring to immediately stick on a protective film or glass (if the manufacturer has not done so). The problem is that most users don’t bother and buy the most affordable Chinese films. After removing them, the entire oleophobic coating will remain on the film, which turns using the phone into real agony.

To be honest, I’m not particularly fond of all sorts of additional glass and films, so after several days of using the new phone, I got rid of the annoying element. But along with the film, this “magic” coating also went away. The search for a solution to this problem led me to a forum where they advise using car polish to imitate oleophobic properties.

But I know that such products, even though they are made on the basis of soft abrasives, are still capable of harming the protective glass, and their long-term use can completely scratch off the glass (possibly the appearance of depressions or irregularities on the surface). And you don’t want to constantly come into contact with automotive chemicals on your skin.

I came to a solution to this problem while cleaning the house. To wipe wooden surfaces, I use a special polish, which covers the surface with a special protective layer. Plus, it is completely harmless to human skin. So after a couple of minutes of thinking, I tried applying it to the glass of my phone. The result pleasantly surprised me.

So, we need any household furniture polish (preferably not the cheapest one), microfiber and a “problem” phone.

We first clean the phone from dirt so that the screen is perfectly clean. Then apply a small amount of the product to the microfiber and rub it lightly over the phone screen. It is better not to overdo it with the amount of polish, so that during application the excess does not get into, for example, the speaker holes.

Then you need to wait about 5-10 minutes for the protective layer to dry completely and wipe the screen again with a dry part of the microfiber.

We have before us a perfectly clean protective glass, which will repel grease and fingerprints for the next 3-4 days.

Yes, the effect of such a polish is not as long-lasting as we would like, but I don’t think that repeating this process several times a week will greatly complicate your life. But the phone is now much more pleasant to use. Yes, and it smells good. This option is perfect for those who have already worn off the oleophobic coating, but do not want to glue a protective film.

Application order:

  • Seal all the holes in the phone with tape (which are made for the earpiece, microphone, i.e. seal all vulnerable areas so that the spray does not get there).
  • Apply the spray to the screen according to the instructions on the product packaging
  • Repeat the previous step 3-4 times, i.e. apply 3-4 layers.
2. Apply car wax to the screen.
You can buy the product at auto parts stores, but these products are not cheap and not all are effective.

Application order:

Since 2012, it has been used in smartphones. The very first phone to receive an oleophobic coating was the iPhone 3GS. After that, it began to be used by other manufacturers. Today, this coating is applied not only to device displays, but also to protective films for the same displays.

  2. Using thin pieces of masking tape (painting tape because it is easy to peel off), we sealed the speaker, the camera hole, and any other vulnerable areas where the tape could get caught.
  3. After applying the coating, it was polished with a silk cloth, approximately the same as is usually used for cleaning glasses.

You can take a dubious path and resort to “folk remedies,” which are a dime a dozen in Russia. But they all boil down to one thing - purchasing any water-repellent/dirt-repellent nano-liquid designed to protect car windows, and then applying it to the screen. Who knows, maybe this method of protecting the display is effective, but where is the guarantee that such products are non-toxic and will not cause problems later when in contact with the skin.

You can take the appropriate route and purchase a special Japanese-made Fusso SmartPhone liquid or its equivalent on eBay. The cost of a well-proven product varies between 1000 rubles per 3 ml. The liquid applies a new layer of oleophobic coating to the screen.

And finally, the fourth method. Expensive. This is a screen replacement at a service center, which is not entirely advisable, given that there is an effective way to restore the oleophobic coating described above.
