How to update sound drivers. How to quickly update sound card drivers? How to reinstall a sound card on Windows 7

There are many pages on the Internet where they offer to download sound drivers, don’t rush. In every computer, netbook or laptop, be it Asus or another.

Depending on the operating system Windows 7 or XP, the sound cards are different. Therefore, you need to choose exactly for your model.

You can most accurately determine it using the DEV and VEN codes of your sound card or the Everest program.

For beginners, such definitions can cause some difficulties, so I will describe simple ways to find and install the best sound drivers.

I would like to note right away that the search method described below is suitable for absolutely everyone, and not just for sound. It is the simplest and most accessible to all novice computer users.

How to determine sound drivers

As written above, you can use the Everest program, but there are two problems: you need to download it and be able to use it, so let’s put this option aside for better times and use a simpler method of searching for sound drivers

To do this, open the “control panel” (press start, it will be on the right side), look for “device manager” and click on it.

There is access to all installed drivers including for sound. We are only interested in the following “audio video and gaming devices”.

On the contrary, on the left side there is a small black triangle (advanced menu), you need to click on it.

After clicking you will see your drivers. If you right-click on them, a new window will open; in it, select properties at the very bottom. Look at the picture.

In most cases, it is completely enough to find out the supplier’s website. (see figure below) After that, go to it and look for your sound drivers.

If you need additional information for a more precise search, you can quickly find it out in the “information” option, as shown in the figure.

You can also try to update the sound files directly from the device manager (this method does not always work).

Just click update drivers, indicate where to look (if you have a disk, insert it into the drive, if not, select via the Internet) and update.

There are no difficulties in installing those responsible for sound. After downloading, they are usually in the archive, so we unpack them.

  • By the way, I almost forgot. Recently appeared. You can download it by following the link. It is small and in Russian.
The main thing is not to forget to indicate accurate information about your hardware when searching; you often have to indicate the name of the motherboard, since it depends on it whether they can work together.

That's all. The method described above is the simplest and at the same time very effective. The whole point is to choose them specifically for your motherboard.

I think after reading this article, you will be able to independently search for and install sound drivers on your PC.

No sound is a very annoying problem that can occur on a computer. As a rule, in most cases, sound drivers are to blame. The article will discuss how to update sound card drivers.

Updating drivers is a simple procedure that will only require a few minutes of your time.

Automatic driver update

To begin, open "Start" and right-click on the item "Computer" . In the context menu that appears, open the item "Properties" .

On the left side of the new window, open the item "Device Manager" .

Here you will need to expand the item "Sound, video and gaming devices" , and then right-click on the name of the sound card and select "Update driver" .

Select an option "Automatically search for updated drivers" and wait for the search to complete. As a result, the computer should display any driver updates it has found and prompt you to install them. If, as a result of the automatic search, the drivers were not updated, you will have to perform the installation procedure manually.

Updating drivers on a desktop computer

Method 1. If you are the owner of a desktop computer, then the easiest way is to download the necessary drivers from the motherboard manufacturer’s website (this information can be gleaned from the documentation for your computer).

If you don't know what motherboard is installed in your PC, then go to the motherboard manufacturer's website, from where you can download sound drivers.

Method 2. If you do not know the model of the motherboard, and you do not have a disk with drivers from your PC, then the process can be automated by using a driver pack.

The best solution for this is the program DriverPack Solution, the link to which you will find at the end of the article. The program will automatically find the necessary drivers and offer to install them immediately.

Update laptop drivers

The task is easier if you are the owner of a laptop. To solve sound problems, you will need to download sound drivers, which can be found on the website of your laptop manufacturer. Below are the main websites of laptop manufacturers.

A system failure due to a virus attack or incorrect reinstallation of the operating system sometimes leads to the loss of drivers for the sound card and, as a result, no sound on the computer. Let's look at how to install a sound driver on your own, without resorting to the help of a computer technician, using Windows 7 as an example.

By default, when installing the Windows 7 operating system, the Windows Update service is launched, with the help of which all drivers are periodically updated, and in automatic mode. First, check to see if this service is disabled. Through the "Start" button and Windows search, open the "Services" window, find it and restart. Next, also through the search, go to the device manager window, according to the screenshot. From the list of presented equipment, select the “Sound, video and gaming devices” section and click on it.

The sub-item that opens is the name of your sound card. Most often, if the system is installed incorrectly, a warning flag (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark) is located in this place, which indicates the absence of the required driver. But this does not always happen, so take this into account and right-click on the sub-item, and in the context menu activate the “Update drivers” item.

In the dialog box, click on the “Automatic search for driver...” tab, just don’t forget to check your Internet connection at this moment, because the driver will be installed via the network.

If you have a pirated, non-activated copy of Windows, then there is no talk of any automatic updates. Download the drivers yourself, for example, through the website “devid.info” using the identifier (code) of your sound card.

Return to the device manager you already know and right-click on the name of the sound card, in the context menu activate the “Properties” item. In the properties window, go to the “Details” tab and select “Equipment ID” from the list, and in the “Value” box, copy the identifier.

Go to the website “devid.info” and enter this very copied number into the search bar, and then click “Search”. From the list of opened titles, find a driver suitable for your operating system and download it to your computer using the site’s prompts.

Note! On the page with drivers, the installation file with the software product looks like: setup.exe, and next to it there is also information about the name of the driver and a list of devices that it supports.

Run the downloaded installer, following the prompts of the installation wizard, install the program on your computer. Immediately after this, the sound will appear on the PC. Or return to point No. 4 of our instructions, just activate the “Search for drivers on this PC manually” tab in the dialog box that opens, specify the folder where you downloaded the file through a resource with drivers. How to find downloads from the network - read.

First of all, I want to warn you that if you want, it is not necessary to delete old versions. New driver versions can be installed on top of old ones! Well, if you want just reinstall the drivers for some other purposes, then welcome to this lesson.

Now I'll show you 2 ways, following which you can reinstall the driver for your video card or any other device. One of the methods can be performed using standard system tools, and the second can be done using a simple program.

1. Reinstall drivers using Device Manager

The first step is to decide which device driver we want to reinstall. I will show using a video card as an example!

Right-click on the Computer section and select Manage.

In the window that opens, go to the tab device Manager and find the device whose driver you want to reinstall. Right-click on it and open Properties.

Here we need the "Driver" tab and the "Delete" button, it is at the very bottom.

In the confirmation box, check the box " Remove driver programs for this device" and click OK.

Fine! So we've done half the job - driver removed. Now all that remains is to restart the computer, then download the latest driver and install it. I recommend the following lessons on this topic:

2. Reinstalling drivers using Driver Sweeper

There is a convenient program called Driver Sweeper. Using it, you can COMPLETELY remove the driver, and then manually install another one. To reinstall the driver we need to follow these steps.

It’s worth saying right away that you need to use this program carefully. If you delete everything in a row, you can greatly harm the system, so I can’t vouch for your actions!!!

So, if you still decide reinstall the driver using the described scheme, then let's go. Everything here is actually very simple. Download and install the Driver Sweeper program. After launching the tab Analysis and purification Check the box next to the drivers you want to remove and click Cleanup.

Then we confirm the removal of this driver.

As in the example with the first method, all that remains is to restart the computer and install a new driver.
