Why do you need icloud mail? What can you clean up on iCloud? iCloud Mail: its undoubted “advantages”

What is iCloud - general information

iCloud stores your photos, documents, and more in the cloud and wirelessly transfers it to your enabled devices.

The best example of iCloud in action is shown in the photo below:

Let me explain the photo: let's say you took a photo on your iPhone. It goes to cloud storage and is automatically transferred to your other devices: iPad, MacBook, etc.

This is just one example of using iCloud, we will look at others in great detail below.

Setting up iCloud on iPad

Initial setup iCloud

What do you need to start using iCloud? Your Apple ID and password. Let's go to Settings in iOS 5 and we see a new menu item iCloud.

Enter your Apple ID and password and click the Sign in button. If you created an account when installing iOS 5, then you won’t have to do this either.

We enter and see this picture:

What do the top parameters mean?

Mail- disabled by default, and I don’t see much point in reserving it.

Contacts— when you change contacts on one device, the contact information on the other will change. Leave this enabled if you are using the standard address book.

Calendars— leave it enabled if you use the standard iOS calendar.

Reminders— leave it turned on if you use reminders. Your reminders will be duplicated on all devices connected to iCloud. This is a new program in iOS 5.

Bookmarks— leave it enabled if you use bookmarks in the Safari browser.

Notes— if you use the standard Notes application on the iPad, then it is advisable to enable it, but this requires an email like [email protected].

Photostream— enable if you want photos taken using iPad or screenshots to automatically go to iCloud.

Documents and data- included. But we will configure this parameter separately below. Required if you want to transfer documents and data between devices.

Click the “Storage and backups” button.

Each Apple ID has 5 gigabytes of free storage available. If we click the “Buy more free space” button, we will see tariff plans for large amounts of storage.

Tariff plans

10 gigabytes - $20 per year

20 gigabytes - $40 per year

50 gigabytes - $100 per year

Theoretically, 5 free gigabytes should be enough for you.

We are closing tariff plans. Turn on the switch Copy to iCloud.

Important! button "Create a copy" don't press. Press the button "Vault".

Click on the button with the name of your iPad. Next, you are asked to select the data you want to back up. I note that It is not the programs themselves that go to iCloud, but only their data (for example, books from the Shortbook library or Save from a game).

We see that by default we have everything turned on. I disabled copying of all data except the most necessary programs. Click show all programs and one by one we disable those whose data is not necessary to be stored. The process is tedious, it’s strange that Apple didn’t add a button to turn everything off. I'd rather turn everything off and only turn on the programs I use.

After we have turned off everything unnecessary, we go back to the place where there is a button "Create a copy" and press it. We started creating a copy of our data in iCloud.

In general, according to Apple's idea, automatic backup to iCloud is carried out when the iPad is connected to a power source. In this case, the iPad must be locked and connected to a Wi-Fi network. But nothing prevents you from creating a copy manually at any time.

Setting up mail and notes for iCloud

As was written just above, for mail you need your own address like [email protected]. You can create it directly from your iPad. Move the mail slider (Settings->iCloud ->mail slider to ON). A message appears where we press the button Create.

Enter the address of the form [email protected].

Advice: Try to be imaginative when choosing a name. Choose a unique name - probably names like [email protected] or [email protected] are already busy and you will receive a notification about it.

Click next - that’s it, the name for the mail has been created. Now the data from this mail will go to iCloud and from there to all your devices. We go into the mail and see that iCloud items have appeared in it. Congratulations, you have a new mailing address like [email protected], linked to iCloud.

Author's opinion: I don’t see much point in creating this address, but without it you won’t be able to send notes (Standard app in iOS) to iCloud. It is also unclear why synchronizing mail in iCloud is needed in this form. A gmail account using the imap protocol, in my opinion, is no worse.

Photostream - General information. How Photo Stream works

If you have activated the function Photostream(Settings -> iCloud -> Photo Stream -> switch the switch to On), then all photos and screenshots taken on the iPad will be automatically uploaded to iCloud and immediately appear on all your devices that support iCloud.

After turning it on, we try to take screenshots or photos. We go into the standard photo program on the iPad. And we see a new tab photostream. Our new screenshots and photos will be displayed there.

Important! It is worth noting that the maximum that a photo stream supports is 1000 photos. Therefore, after the 1000th photo, the following will happen: the oldest photo will be deleted, and a new photo will be uploaded to the photo stream.

How to delete data from a photo stream

Remove them from the application Photo it is forbidden! If you turn off the Photo Stream feature in iCloud (Settings -> iCloud -> Photo Stream -> switch the switch to Off), a message will appear: Disabling a Photo Stream will delete all photos in that Photo Stream from your iPad.

And even if you press delete photo, then only photos on the iPad that were duplicated in the photo stream will be deleted.

Attention! Photos and screenshots from the Photos section of the Photo program will not be deleted. Photos will remain in iCloud. When you turn on the Photo Stream function again, they will simply be downloaded from the network.

Using iCloud through the official website

iCloud has an official website - . Go to it, you will be asked to log in with your Apple ID:

The screenshot shows the Developer Sign In button. The button may be called differently, maybe someday there will even be a Russian interface. The main thing here Sign In- "Sign in".

We log in with our Apple ID and its password, we see 5 icons:

How Mail works in iCloud

When we access mail, we see exactly the same email client interface that we see on the iPad. Everything works the same way, except that on the iPad we can have a ton of mailboxes configured, but here we have only 1, and only one of the following type: [email protected]

When working with letters, all changes are instantly displayed on all devices connected to your storage. Comfortable? Comfortable.

How Contacts works in iCloud

We go into this application and see all our contacts from the address book. Let's try to make a new contact directly in the browser.

After clicking Done, open the application Address Book on iPad and, lo and behold: a new contact literally appears on the iPad within a few seconds.

We try to edit a contact in the browser - look at the iPad. All changes are reflected almost immediately in the iPad address book. To do this, you didn’t even have to press any “Update” buttons - iCloud works on the principle of Push notifications.

The opposite is also true - all changes on the iPad in the address book are immediately displayed in the browser.

How Calendar works in iCloud

Go to the application Calendar in the browser. The interface is almost the same as on the iPad.

Let's try to create a new event in the calendar in the browser:

This event immediately appears in the Calendar application on the iPad.

When you edit an event in the browser, the changes are immediately reflected in the iPad. And vice versa.

How Find My iPhone works in iCloud

I would like to tell you more about this function. If you have lost your iPad, you need to go through the browser and select the Find My iPhone function. You will be asked to enter your Apple ID password.

We enter and after some time the location of our iPad (and any other device of yours connected to iCloud) is determined on the Google map. In the upper left corner we see information about the last time the data was updated.

On the map, click on the green dot with our device (if it is found, of course), and click on the icon with the letter i. And we get this pop-up window.

As you can see in the screenshot above, there are three buttons - I’ll explain their purpose.

Play Sound or Send Message function

Designed to send a sound signal to your iPad (you never know, suddenly you lost it in your huge house) or send a message (useful, for example, if you lost your iPad not at home and want to write something to the finder).

Click on this button and see this form.

If we simply press the Send button, a sound notification will be sent to the iPad. Moreover, the sound will be loud, regardless of whether the volume on the device is turned on or not.

If we write a message in the text field, then our text will be sent to the iPad:

In addition to all this, you will receive a letter in the mail stating that you used the Find My iPhone functions:

Remote Lock function

With this feature, we can remotely lock the iPad with a four-digit password. Relevant if you do not want information from it to get to attackers.

Press the Remote Lock button and see the password entry window. Enter it twice:

That’s it, the iPad is locked and you can’t view its contents without entering a password:

Remote Wipe function

Remotely erase data on iPad. The most drastic way to get rid of the contents of your iPad is to hide data from prying eyes.

The phone is broken and I need a phone book. iCloud is the solution.

Many have experienced that when a phone breaks down and it cannot be restored, the lion's share of a person's life is lost - his photographs, contacts, messages.

But if you took care of this a little in advance, then by picking up a “new” iPhone, you could return everything. Sometimes, personal information for the user is much more important than the phone itself.

Moreover, all the capabilities are already available in the iPhone itself. You just need to enable the necessary checkboxes.

Let's learn to use technology like iCloud. This will be discussed in our article today.

What is a cloud service?AppleiCloud and how to use it?

Let's first understand what a cloud service is? Where are these clouds anyway?

The essence of the technology is that all content (photos, videos, documents, etc.) is located not on the device, but on Apple’s servers. At the same time, having access to the Internet, you can access your information from any iOS device iPhone or iPad. This means that your contacts and photos are additionally copied and stored in a safe place.

The most common example of cloud services is email. All your information is stored on a mail, yandex, google or other service server, and you can access this data from any computer, of course, if you know the user and password. And we’ve been using this for a long time, so we’ll start using iCloud.

iCloud is a free service that is available to iPhone and iPad users starting with iOS 5, as well as Mac and PC users with iTunes 10.5 and higher. The main idea of this service is to create a common storage for all sorts of things and the ability to see all your information on different devices.

To log into the cloud service you only need your Apple ID and password. There is no need to create additional accounts. I hope you have already created an Apple ID account.

! Important point: Account AppleID must be unique for your personal iPhone and iPad. You won’t be able to use it if several phones have the same Apple ID; you’ll simply erase each other’s data.

Each user gets 5 GB of memory to store mail, application data and other small items. This is a free limit; if it is not enough for you, you can purchase additional volume for an additional fee. When purchasing, money is debited from your account.

There are no restrictions on size for photographs, but there are restrictions on quantity - no more than 1000 pieces. for the last 30 days.

How to setupiCloud oniPhone,iPad for backup?

It's simple! Go to Settings -> iCloud -> Account and here we enter the email and password that you use in the App Store, that is, your Apple ID. Here you can configure those applications that need to synchronize their data. Feel free to include Contacts and photos, and who cares about the Calendar.

To synchronize notes, you will be prompted to create a free e-mail @iCloud.com. Just indicate your nickname and use the password for your account.

And now the best part, go to Settings -> iCloud -> Storage and backups and turn on the checkbox in the Backup section - Copy toiCloud. Here it is a miracle, the iPhone will start copying your contacts and photos to the server. Now your data is not in danger of any problem with your phone, including complete destruction or loss.

Automatic backup occurs when your device is plugged in, locked, and connected to the Internet. Wi-Fi is a must. That is, we connect the phone to Wi-Fi and charge it overnight. And in the morning a backup copy has already been made.

For those who swallow tons of information, and for whom 5GB is not enough, you can buy space. To do this, go to Settings -> iCloud -> Storage and copies -> Buy more space. In practice, there is more than enough space to store contacts.

How to restore from a backup?

We hope that we will not need this, but we should know about it. There is a backup copy, everything is stored somewhere far away. But then the phone “pah-pah” was lost or completely broken. There is no way to find it or repair it, but all your life, contacts, and telephone numbers are there. Dont be upset. Thanks to the created backup, we will return everything to its place.

We buy a new iPhone, start activating it, and when the menu appears in front of us:

1) Set up iPhone as new,

2) Restore from iCloud backup,

3) Restore from iTunes backup,

We boldly select point 2. Next, enter your Apple ID, select the latest backup and click Restore. All our contacts and photos will be downloaded from the server and loaded into the new gadget. Everything is safe and sound. And we’ll survive the loss of our previous phone.

What else can it doiCloud?

iCloud allows you to do several more interesting things, for example, if you connect your devices to the cloud service, then taking a photo on your iPhone, it can automatically appear on your iPad. In addition to photos, you can synchronize bookmarks in Safari, settings in games and applications, etc. To do this, you will need to be connected to the Internet and enable the necessary checkboxes on your devices.

Let's get to know them.

What is a photo stream?

If you go to Settings -> iCloud -> Photos, you will see My Photo Stream. This feature allows you to automatically synchronize photos and screenshots taken using iPhone and iPad between iOS devices. If you find this feature useful, just turn it on, and when you connect to a Wi-Fi network, all photos will automatically be sent to all your iCloud devices.

How to synchronize purchased applications, games, music? Automatic synchronization.

Settings -> iTunes Store, App Store and mark in the “Automatic downloads” section those items that interest us.

iCloud via browser on computer

The web version of iCloud is located at iCloud.com. Enter your AppeID username and password and get access to your mail, calendar, contacts, iWork documents, as well as the Find My iPhone service.

Today I want to talk about how to use iCloud. For those who don’t know, iCloud is from Apple. It includes not only file storage, but also functions for synchronizing notes, calendar, contacts and files, as well as the ability to store for later or painless migration to a new phone. With all this, you need to remember that the capabilities of this service are available not only on the iPhone, but also on other Apple devices. We will touch on this and many other aspects in this article.

Registration

The first thing you need to do in the question of how to use iCloud is to register an account in this service. It's likely that the first time you turned on your iPhone, you already created an AppleID account - a single account for all Apple services. However, here I want to talk about the registration process through the company’s website:

  1. Open any Internet browser.
  2. We go to the web portal dedicated to the Apple ID: appleid.apple.com.
  3. On the page that opens, click “Create an Apple ID” and go through the standard registration procedure, indicating the user’s name and other details.

Once your account has been created, you can start using the services provided.

Before registering, make sure you have not created this account before. If you made purchases from your phone in the AppStore (or simply installed free apps from the store), then you already have a user account.

Login from browser

Since we started covering this topic by registering an account through a browser, we’ll do the first one through it, because how can you use iCloud storage if you don’t log into it first? So we need:

  1. Open browser.
  2. Type “icloud.com” in the address bar.
  3. Press the “Enter” key and wait for the page to load.
  4. Enter the information from the created account into the login form.
  5. Click on the button with the arrow.

Connecting a service on your phone

The next thing that logically needs to be sorted out is how to use iCloud on the iPhone. By default, the service is always enabled, but to make sure this is true, or to enable it (if it is disabled), you need to:

  1. Open phone settings.
  2. Go to the "iCloud" section.
  3. Enable cloud functionality and activate the necessary applications included in it using the appropriate switches.

Important! In the same menu, settings related to the automatic synchronization of certain content between your devices connected to the same Apple account will be available. Naturally, do not forget to log in to your phone using the account you created.

All other actions related to downloading updated content, transferring contacts, etc., will be performed automatically by the system, which is undoubtedly very convenient.

In conclusion, I would like to answer the eternal question of many inexperienced users: how much does it cost to use iCloud. Initially, the service is provided free of charge - all functionality is available to you, but the cloud storage size is only 5GB. If you need to increase the amount of allocated space, then this can be done for a certain amount, a list of which can be found on the website icloud.com (read about how to clear iCloud storage).

Or other Apple technology, you will have to create your own Apple ID. Do this and remember the password, or better yet, write it down somewhere. An Apple ID is required to synchronize and store data in iCloud, as well as to download programs and media files from the App Store and iTunes Store.

Select what you want to sync

If you go to iCloud settings, you will see a bunch of items, and opposite there are switches. Select the types of data that should be on all your devices: photos, contacts, calendars, notes. It’s better not to disable the “Find My iPhone” function - in case of theft or loss, you will thank yourself.

Additional items that can also be synchronized are hidden in other menu tabs. For example, you can receive calls on all devices, regardless of which one you are being called on. Just turn on the toggle switch in the FaceTime item. To sync all messages across devices, go to the “Messages” section. There you can add all the email addresses and phone numbers where SMS should be sent.

When purchasing second hand, make sure that all data is deleted

If you are starting to use a phone that someone else has already used before you, take a look at the iCloud settings at the seller. The former owner of the device must delete all data from the iCloud, iTunes Store and App Store sections. You won't be able to do this yourself - the device will ask for a password. Make sure that the seller completely removes all data that was already on the phone/tablet. For your own peace of mind, you should reset all settings in front of the seller - the “Basic” item.

A guarantee that your device will never remember the previous owner will be that he removes the gadget from the list on the website. We advise you to check it.

Don't give your Apple ID to anyone

It's simple - never give your Apple ID to anyone. Even your best friend, with whom you have been together since the cradle. Stupidly, it might set up your devices to sync. In the worst case, change the password. If they did give you a password, check to see if someone else’s phone has been added to your devices. This can be done in iCloud settings.

If suddenly you did give someone your Apple ID and password, there is a huge chance that the devices have synchronized and are being monitored. This is especially true for separated couples: after all, it was so romantic - shared access to iCloud and the App Store.

To understand whether your data is on someone else’s device, scroll through the photos in the photo stream - are there any strangers? The same should be done with the contact list and Safari. The latter can show open tabs on synchronized devices. Don't forget to check your notes in the iCloud section.

Another sign of synchronization is extra contacts in iMessage. Try creating a new message and typing each letter of the alphabet in turn. Doesn't it show strange contacts?

Change your password and check your messaging settings and associated devices

The easiest way to correct the situation is to contact this person and ask him in a good way to erase your access from his phone, at the same time deleting all the data that has already been synchronized.

If a person does not want to get rid of your phone, then you need to change the iCloud password. Then go to the message settings and check which numbers and email addresses SMS messages from iMessage are sent to. Delete unnecessary ones in the “Sending / Receiving” section.

To delete all data from someone else's phone, you need to go to iTunes, connect your phone and look at the associated devices. Remove all other people's gadgets from the list.

After all the above manipulations, the data may stop synchronizing - or not. They can be deleted from someone else's device. Or not. If nothing has changed, contact Apple Support. After much correspondence and questioning, they will definitely help you.

Don't let your Apple ID be hacked

Today, no one will be surprised by hacking of email and social media accounts. In order to get money, scammers hack your Apple ID, activate “Lost Mode” and turn your phone into a brick. To avoid this, first, never sign into someone else's iCloud. Secondly, set different passwords for mail and Apple ID (as for all other applications).

So, if you entered someone else's Apple ID and your phone is blocked, only support can help you. Call 8-800-555-67-34 and prepare a check. Without it, your phone can be sold for parts, unfortunately.

If the scoundrels found the password to your mail and account, you have a chance to get everything back. To do this, you need to reset your password. Let's go to the official website iforgot.apple.com. You will have to answer three questions and indicate your backup email address: the password reset email will arrive there. After this, you need to go to and in the “Find iPhone” section disable “Lost Mode”.

There was a time when cloud storage was just a high-tech term used by industry insiders. Now everything is different, and every user can access such services. They are designed to make your life easier by significantly expanding the memory size of your device through digital means. Where is the cloud on the iPhone and how to use it?

What is cloud storage?

The name “cloud storage” evokes images of information floating in the air, but in practice this is not the case. When you store something in the cloud, that data is located on a remote server. This is contrary to saving directly to your device. These servers can then be accessed remotely by users. Typically, these servers are owned and operated by the hosting company that maintains them.

So why is it called "the cloud"? The origins of this phrase can be traced back to the early days of the Internet. Back then, cloud designs were used to represent the telephone company that provided Internet access. The term has recently been brought into the modern era. Where is the cloud located on the iPhone and what is it for?

Why is it useful to use cloud storage?

There are several good reasons to use cloud storage. For example, Apple likes to charge extra to increase device memory. The problem is that modern devices continue to consume more and more storage space. Despite this, Apple has no plans to reduce the price of 256 GB iPhone models, so an alternative is needed.

This is cloud storage. Remote servers can store a ton of photos, videos and other data at a reasonable cost. Beyond that, you rarely have to take extra steps to access them.

Cloud storage also makes it easy to transfer data between multiple devices. Imagine the simple process of copying photos from your phone to PC without the cloud. You'll have to deal with wires or the cumbersome process of sending files via email. Synchronizing your iPhone with the cloud avoids this.

However, one of the most often overlooked benefits of cloud storage is the backup options it offers. Ideally, you should make a copy of every important file you have on the server. This will allow you not to worry about the risks of losing information.

However, the best reason to use cloud storage is relatively simple: it's the future. People may one day live in an era where the cloud becomes the dominant method of storing data. Therefore, it is best to familiarize yourself with this now.

How difficult is it to use cloud storage?

With the right service, cloud storage is incredibly easy to use. Most modern devices give you the ability to immediately save to the cloud. From there, accessing your data is as easy as through the built-in media.

The main obstacle when working with cloud storage is data management. It is possible to log into the cloud from an iPhone, but this requires using a third-party browser. In addition, the habit of having information in several places causes difficulties. Luckily, most cloud services make it easy to automatically back up your data and manage your files.

How much cloud storage do you need?

It depends greatly on your needs. If you are a business owner, you need as much as you can get, since the cloud is your best option for creating copies. Based on your needs, this could mean subscribing to a service that allows you to store terabytes. Since you can always log into the cloud from your iPhone, for a fee you get the ability to backup any information.

However, this storage space may not be necessary for everyone. If you're a mobile user who just wants to back up some photos and videos, consider a service that allows you to store about half the space available on your mobile device.

Also, see how much space your photos and videos take up and get the service that you practically need. Just keep in mind that your needs may increase.

What is iCloud?

iCloud Drive is Apple's solution for managing documents and files on iOS and Mac. If you have an iCloud account, you can use this storage. Subscription prices range from free to $19.99 per month, depending on your volume needs. First of all, you will need to go through the setup process and get started with iCloud Drive.

How to enable iCloud Drive manually on iPhone

  4. Enable the option for cloud storage.

You may receive a pop-up warning if you have other iOS and OS X devices that are not currently using iCloud Drive. Remember that they all need to be updated to ensure compatibility between them. So just repeat this process on each one.

How to choose an iCloud Drive subscription plan

  1. Launch the Files application
  2. Click Browse at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select iCloud Manager under Locations.

  6. Select the files you want to delete.
  7. Click "Delete" in the lower right corner.

It is worth noting that when deleting there is no confirmation of the operation. Deleting files only pre-marks them. They can be restored in the Files application.
