Windows 10 install fall creators update

The next major update to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update has been released. There are few noticeable innovations in it; for example, only some of the built-in applications are designed in the style. But, if you want to get this update now, then there are several options for this.

Four ways to get the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

The first method is Windows 10 Update

The easiest thing is to wait for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update to arrive via the standard path. To check open "Options" ("Win+I" or "Start" - "Settings"), go to section "Update and Security", open "Update centre" and click on the button "Checking for updates". If the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update has already arrived, the system will download and install it. During the process, the computer will reboot several times. Microsoft uses the new Unified Update Platform to distribute updates, thanks to which the size of installation files has been reduced by approximately 35%.

The second method is “Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant”

Go to page "Download Microsoft Software", press "Update Now" and download Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant. Launch it and click on the button "Update Now". The utility will check your computer's compatibility with the update and, if everything is in order, the update will be downloaded and installed.

The third method is MediaCreationTool

Download from the same page MediaCreationTool, run, then accept the license agreement and select the option "Upgrade this PC now". Specify that your personal files and applications should be kept and follow the further instructions. You can also choose to install the update without saving files and applications to make a clean installation.

The fourth method - Windows Insider

Join Windows Insider program, then open "Options", go to section "Update and Security", further in "Windows Insider Program" and press the button "Begin". After this, you will be offered the latest test build of Windows 10, which is currently released and distributed as the Fall Creators Update. In the future, you can quit this Windows Insider program and stop receiving test builds.

The major Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will be available to users worldwide on October 17. With the Fall Creators Update, Microsoft will be introducing some exciting new creative features. As part of the update, we'll offer an enhanced photo app that lets you tell stories in a whole new way using photos, videos, and 3D effects. Expect improved games, security and accessibility features, and new immersive experiences made possible by Windows Mixed Reality. All these innovations will be available on modern devices with beautiful design and diverse functionality created by our partners. New partner devices already went on sale last weekend.

How great it is to be in Berlin at IFA, one of the oldest and largest consumer electronics exhibitions, together with a huge number of our customers and partners. For many years, IFA has remained one of the most important events where you can see the most innovative and original solutions. In 1930, Albert Einstein opened the Seventh Great Exhibition of German Radio Engineering and Phonographs, the forerunner of the modern IFA. The 1930 exhibition marked the debut of a prototype “television receiver” – a year before television broadcasts officially began in Germany. Participation in the exhibition this year is a great honor and privilege for us.

The last week of August was important for Microsoft: , including the first wave of immersive content. On Wednesdaywhich will allow you to access the Alexa digital assistant through Cortana on a Windows 10 PC. On Friday, we talked about the next step in the development of Windows 10.

We are preparing for the fourth global update of Windows 10. Our main goal while working on it was to create a platform that inspires creativity. We see schoolchildren playing and learning with Minecraft, lawyers creating with words, accountants drawing with numbers, designers sharing their ideas with presentations, and engineers crafting with code. Creativity is inherently universal, and in its nature based on purpose.

Unleashing the creativity of all people through new user experiences is what drives us forward into the future. And for us, it all starts with Windows 10, the most popular version of Windows on the planet. It's installed on more than 500 million devices, helping you create and play at home, work and school.

Today we're excited to announce that the next Windows 10 update, called the Fall Creators Update, will be available on October 17th. With the Fall Creators Update, we're introducing some exciting new ways to create.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update releases worldwide on October 17

Windows Inking keeps getting better and now lets you annotate PDFs directly, making it easier and faster to annotate and share information with others. The possibilities are about the same as when using pen and paper, only even wider. Smart Ink applies artificial intelligence technology to your drawing: it aligns the geometric shapes you draw or combines cells into a table without any additional effort on your part. Just like we can have a hard time finding our keys, wallet, or phone, sometimes it can be hard to find a digital pen to take notes with. Windows Find my Pen fixes this issue in the Fall Creators Update.

Photo and video

We've updated the Photos app to give you the ability to create unique, personalized stories using photos, videos, music, 3D, and even drawing with Windows Inking.

OneDrive Files On-Demand

You can save all your creations to OneDrive Files On-Demand, and your cloud files will be just as accessible as any other file on your PC, without taking up space on your hard drive.

Games

Play often inspires creativity. With the Fall Creators Update, we've enhanced Game Mode, which lets you experience your device at its full potential, just like it's an Xbox console. Just press the new button on the Game bar. To help you experience this power, we've created a great lineup of games on Xbox Play Anywhere, including Cuphead, Forza Motorsport 7, Super Lucky's Tale and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. By the way, if you're a fan of these Xbox Play Anywhere games, starting November 7th you'll be able to play them on the most powerful console on the planet - Xbox One X.

Safety

Our goal is to keep you protected and safe as you create and play. Windows Defender is smarter with the Fall Creators Update and can protect you better than ever. This will be helped by elements of artificial intelligence in the cloud, creating new levels of protection against ransomware and vulnerabilities. Speaking about safety, we cannot fail to mention Windows 10 S. Windows 10 S, introduced in May of this year, is easy and secure to use, with significant improvements in battery life and performance. Its launch in the market was very successful and it received the highest ratings from users.

The Fall Creators Update is all about helping you unleash your creativity and have fun while staying completely protected.

Availability

We also want to tell you about some exciting new technologies that support Microsoft's mission of making products accessible to everyone in the world. In the Fall Creators Update, we're doing Windows more accessiblefor people with Lou Gehrig's disease, a progressive degenerative disease of the nervous system that affects the brain's ability to control the body's muscles. The only muscles that the disease does not affect are the eye muscles. The new Eye Control feature introduces incredible eye tracking technology that allows a person to type and control the mouse using just their eyes. This technology will change the lives of people with Lou Gehrig's disease. This is a real breakthrough, we will make Windows more accessible around the world with the release of the Fall Creators Update.

And finally, with the Fall Creators Update, we're giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a new reality - the world. Mixed reality is a combination of the physical and digital worlds and is the next step in the evolution of digital computing. For the first time we are talking about a mixed reality system that is not limited to the screen of a mobile device. An interface that's easy to install and doesn't require you to outfit your entire room with cameras. Just put on your headset, connect it to your PC and go! Your hands will be free to interact with the world of mixed reality. A number of our partners produce such headsets, including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. The minimum cost of the devices will be only $299.

Windows Mixed Reality headsets will be available starting October 17, coinciding with the Fall Creators Update.

And if you don't want to use headsets, you can take advantage of mixed reality capabilities on your computers. With Mixed Reality Viewer, you can place 3D objects—both from the Remix3D community and ones you create in Paint 3D—directly into your existing environment using your computer's camera. Take a photo and share it to tell your story.

Microsoft is expected to release the final version of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709) on October 17, 2017. This is the fourth major feature update for Windows 10 (and the second update of 2017), bringing many exciting new features and improvements.

The Fall Creators Update introduces visual changes to the Fluent Design System. You can easily communicate with family and friends using the “People” function. Files on demand in OneDrive can help you save space on your device. Windows Defender Security Center will receive protection against ransomware and exploits. You can customize even more system components and features in the Settings app, etc.

However, since Microsoft will make the new version available to millions of devices around the world on October 17, that doesn't necessarily mean your device will receive the update on day one. Here's what you need to know.

Who will receive the Fall Creators Update first?

Microsoft will roll out Windows 10 version 1709 in phases similar to previous versions. Starting October 17, the company will gradually begin updating new desktops, laptops, and tablets that definitely do not have compatibility issues with the new update. (Typically these are devices awaiting a new release, particularly Surface devices and devices with Windows 10 pre-installed.)

During the initial rollout, Microsoft will collect feedback through the telemetry feature, and based on these results, the rollout will continue to other devices.

Other factors that may prevent you from getting the new version include incompatible software, device drivers, or hardware. Microsoft is known to block the availability of new updates on devices that have known compatibility issues until the issues are resolved.

Your region and how you obtained Windows 10 may also affect when you can receive the update.

How to get the Fall Creators Update?

If your computer does not receive updates, and you do not want to wait, then you can try alternative update methods.

On a device that meets the minimum Windows 10 requirements, you can use the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant to quickly get version 1709 without waiting.

Update Assistant is simply a tool that Microsoft introduced during the rollout of version 1703 that allows you to force an update to your computer if the automatic update mechanism is not working properly. You can use this method regardless of whether Windows Update is running or not.

Another tool you can use is this one, which allows you to update your device to the latest version of Windows 10 without waiting for a Windows update. Using this tool, you can install Windows 10 Fall Creators Update while maintaining your settings, applications, and personal files.

If you begin to notice problems with your system, you can use the Media Creation Tool to perform a clean installation of the Fall Creators Update. However, after this process, you will need to reapply your settings, install applications, and restore files from backup.

Let's sum it up

Microsoft will launch the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update on October 17, 2017, but it will take several months to roll out the update to all supported devices. While there are many ways to force an update on your device, it is always recommended to wait until the Fall Creators Update is automatically offered to you through Windows Update.

When will you install the new version of Windows 10 on your computer? Write to us in the comments.

Starting October 17, Windows 10 users around the world will receive the second annual update. Dubbed the Fall Creators Update (codenamed "Redstone 3"), the latest version of the desktop platform continues the concept of developing people's creative abilities and is aimed primarily at creating content. Of course, by tradition, the list of innovations does not end there - the Fall Creators Update also has many interesting new features for ordinary users.

In our detailed review of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, we look at what Microsoft has been working on since the spring, what the improvements are to the OS, how things are going with the new Fluent Design, and what creative opportunities are now open.

Fluent Design

With the Fall Creators Update, Microsoft is gradually moving Windows 10 to a new design language - Fluent Design. It was presented in May at the annual Build 2017 conference and showed how the operating system will transform in the coming years.

Fluent Design is based on a series of layers that together will turn Windows 10 into a modern, stylish and user-friendly experience - Light, Depth, Motion, Material and Scale. At the moment, not even most of them have been implemented in the Fall Creators Update, so there is no talk of a complete redesign yet. For example, now instead of the usual translucency in applications, the Start menu and Action Center, a new graphic blur effect “acrylic” is used.

According to Microsoft, the company plans to switch to Fluent Design in stages, so the Fall Creators Update is a test run. Windows 10 is expected to undergo a complete design overhaul with the release of the next major update (Redstone 4) in early 2018.

Contacts in the taskbar

A new system for quickly managing contacts through the taskbar, known as "My People", was supposed to appear in the Creators Update in April. For unknown reasons, Microsoft was unable to implement it on time, so it was postponed until the Fall Creators Update.

People in the Taskbar is a new way to communicate that will give Windows 10 users quick access to the contacts they need. With just one click, you can interact with your friends, colleagues, family and share content with them. The feature allows you to pin up to 3 contacts to the taskbar and uses services such as Skype and Outlook Mail. To transfer content, you can simply drag files or images onto the contact icon without having to open separate applications.

The new feature of pinning people to the taskbar is really very convenient and will be useful for users of the Microsoft ecosystem. However, without support for third-party applications, it is practically meaningless. Skype and Outlook Mail are the only services that My People currently supports in the Fall Creators Update. If Twitter or Facebook, one of the most popular social networks in the world, does not appear, then the function will probably remain uninteresting for users. There is definitely a prospect, so it will be very sad.

Windows Mixed Reality

The Mixed Reality Portal app (Windows Mixed Reality) was originally released in the Creators Update, but it wasn't ready to use without the right hardware. With the release of the Fall Creators Update, Microsoft launched the first mixed reality headsets from manufacturers Acer, Asus, HP, Dell, Lenovo and Samsung.

Now computers with Windows 10 can work in mixed reality mode - you just need to connect the accessory and launch a special application. The technology allows you to view 3D models from the Remix 3D community in VR mode and 360-degree video, as well as use universal Windows applications with mixed reality elements. It is worth noting that for stable operation of the function, a powerful computer at the level is required.

To enable mixed reality, Windows 10 Fall Creators Update comes pre-installed with the Mixed Reality Portal and Mixed Reality Viewer apps.

Story Remix Editor

After updating to the Fall Creators Update, Windows 10 comes with a new photo and video editor - Story Remix. It is part of the standard universal Photos application in the operating system, so there is no need to make additional installations.

Without much effort, Story Remix creates interesting albums and videos by applying filters, text, unusual animations, music and special effects. This is not a full-fledged video editor like Apple iMovie, but it is quite a basic tool with a minimal set of functions - for simple content. Some of the special effects are only available to Office 365 subscribers. However, regular users get access to most of the effects featured in Story Remix.

It is noteworthy that Story Remix works automatically. You don't need to save changes when creating an album or video - the editor will do it for you. When everything is ready, you can send your work to your friends. At the same time, Story Remix suggests how to do this in the most suitable way for you:

  • File size S: Very fast to load, best suited for emails and small screens.
  • File size M: Best suited for transmission over the Internet.
  • File size L: Very long to load, best suited for large screens.

Updated Microsoft Edge

Microsoft's proprietary browser for Windows 10 has become faster and more functional. The Fall Creators Update for Edge brings several new features: pinning favorite sites to the taskbar, support for full-screen browsing, and an updated PDF viewer with the ability to add annotations while reading files.

Smaller additions include an updated design with Fluent Design elements, the ability to transfer cookies from Chrome to Edge, editing URLs in the favorites list, changing website permissions, now built-in Microsoft Translator and, of course, noticeable improvements in performance.

Anti-cheat TruePlay

One of the under-the-radar new features of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is the built-in anti-cheat system for games. The innovation was called TruePlay and was tested in the operating system under the Windows Insider program since July 2017.

TruePlay is similar to the Valve Antivirus (VAC) software that the popular game developer uses on Steam. The system works in the background, tracking certain data changes in games (automatic aiming, looking through walls, in-game currency increases, unusual content purchases, etc.). When cheats are detected, TruePlay displays a warning to the user asking them to disable the intractable software, and sends a report to the developers with the relevant information.

TruePlay is disabled by default in Windows 10 gaming settings, but Microsoft is starting to make the API available to developers. Developers will be able to use TruePlay in their games on the Microsoft Store, so for now this restriction is only limited to games on the Universal Windows App Platform (UWP).

It is possible that the TruePlay system will subsequently move from Windows 10 to the Xbox One platform. But if it only applies to UWP games, then this is not a threat for those who like to use cheats. There are simply no worthwhile games for real gamers in the Microsoft Store.

Minor innovations

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update traditionally includes minor innovations - things that are less noticeable to the user when using the OS. Some of them have been waiting for a long time.
  • New Notification Center design with interactive features.
  • Windows Sonic technology for improved sound and headphone experience.
  • On-demand access to local and cloud files in OneDrive.
  • Graphics system (GPU) task scheduler displaying the current load and amount of video memory used.
  • Sync your Android phone or iPhone (notifications, messages, websites, and continue on PC) through the Cortana app.
  • New emoticons and dialog box for Emoji.
  • Updated touch and pen capabilities.
  • Currency converter in the Calculator application.
  • Recover PIN and password from lock screen.
  • Beta version of Eye Control technology.
  • New Get Help app for solving problems and providing feedback.
  • New logo for the Microsoft Store content store.

How to install

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is already available for download and installation over the air through the built-in Update Center. The version number is 1709, build 16299. If for some reason your computer does not detect the autumn OS update, then you can use the Media Creation Tool utility to create a DVD or USB flash drive with a bootable ISO file. It can be downloaded for free at

The innovations of which we discussed in the previous article on the site, Microsoft began to implement right on the day of its official release - October 17, 2017, from 8 pm Moscow time. However, not everyone will see it in the Update Center yet. It will be distributed in stages, and owners of more modern computers will be the first to receive it. Moreover, in automatic mode, if, of course, updates were not disabled or postponed. In general, guys, in the best case scenario, you don’t need to do anything to get the Fall Creators Update. But, alas, the best scenario will not take place in every case. Like, for example, in this one.

This computer was included in the priority list for delivery of the update on the very first day of its release, but the Fall Creators Update (also known as build 1709) did not want to be installed. What should I do to still get the update? And in a case such as this, and when a PC or laptop is not among the priority devices.

Microsoft takes the position that there is no need to rush to update, and if it does not appear in the first days, then you just need to wait your turn until everything appears in the Update Center. But we will not adhere to this position and will implement the Fall Creators Update at all costs. And below we will look at 3 ways to do this.

Note: friends, in my tested cases the update was relatively successful. The only bug was that Alice (a voice assistant from Yandex) flew off. I solved this problem by reinstalling the program. However, as practice shows, as a result of implementing crude updates, you can encounter much more serious problems. Therefore, I strongly recommend that before the steps outlined below, you create a point or backup copy to be able to roll back the system.

Method No. 1. Update centre

So, the easiest way is to go to the Update Center and run the scan.

If this does not happen, but the system attempts to download build 1709, remember what we did with the Update Center - did we change the terms of delivery of updates? Let's look at the additional parameters.

And we check that the default values are set.

As a result of downloading the Fall Creators Update components, we will see a system notification in the tray that will contain options for our further actions.

Among these options is the ability to postpone the process of directly implementing the update for a specific day or for an indefinite time with a reminder. To immediately begin implementing the update, click, respectively, “Restart now”.

And wait for the computer to update.

If the build 1709 component package is not yet available in the Update Center, follow any of the instructions below.

Method No. 2. MediaCreationTool utility

If problems occur with Update, Windows 10 can always be updated using the MediaCreationTool utility. Download it from the Microsoft website:

https://www.microsoft.com/ru-ru/software-download/windows10

Let's launch. We agree with the license and select the first update item.

For some time we will observe the progress of the operation in such a full-screen window.

And then the system, as in the previous case, will enter the pre-boot mode for installing updates with an indication of progress. Then it will start up updated.

Method number 3. System ISO image

Friends, both the first and second methods have one drawback. After such an update, the “ESD” folder appears on the disk (C:\) - a folder for storing temporary Windows installation files, which can weigh several GB. After a while, it usually empties itself and does not pile up the total disk space (C:\) with its weight. However, the fact that before implementing updates into the system, components were downloaded to a folder on the disk (C:\) to carry out this process may not please owners of SSD drives who are sensitive to the resource usage of the media. For those, there is an alternative way to implement the Fall Creators Update; it does not require unnecessary data overwriting. This method is in many ways similar to the previous one, but allows users to choose the storage path for the Windows distribution and specify the HDD partition for these purposes. Below we will download an ISO image with the latest Windows 10 distribution and update the system using it.
