Watermark on photo, XnView program. A program for creating watermarks. Download for free

Supported Formats

Visual Watermark supports JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF and BMP image formats. Visual Watermark supports RGB, CMYK 8bit and photo color spaces with color profiles. Protected photos are always in the RGB color space and sRGB color profile. Automatically rotates vertical photos. Saves EXIF and IPTC information in JPEG files. Supports 100% quality for JPEG images. Does not use color compression when saving in JPEG format. This ensures the highest quality color reproduction.

Watermarks with text

Adds watermarks with name, company name and your brand. All system fonts can be used. Comes with 260 additional fonts. Supports styles: regular, italic, bold, bold italic. Visual Watermark allows you to change the size and position of the watermark using the built-in visual editor.

Watermarks with logos

Your company logo as a watermark. Replace the template logo with yours on the brand personalization screen. Supported stamp formats: JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF and BMP. Visual Watermark will remove the background from your logo if required.

Batch photo processing

Visual Watermark allows you to place a watermark on a group of photos at a time. Select photos and folders to protect and the program will place a stamp on all selected photos. Visual Watermark uses up to 4 processor cores for maximum performance.

Changes stamp size automatically

Visual Watermark supports full and cropped photos in one package. The auto-size feature resizes the watermark to fit all photos. You can enable this option in the output settings screen.

Copyright metadata

Visual Watermark adds your copyright to the metadata of protected photos. This allows you to attach your contact information to a photo file without increasing the size of the watermark. Your clients can read the copyright from the downloaded file using Preview on Mac and the File Properties screen on Windows.

Renaming photos

Gives new names to protected photos. Use this feature to give meaningful names to files before sending them to clients. The Visual Watermark program can replace “DSC03682.JPG” with the meaningful name “Nikiforov’s Wedding 1.jpg”.

Integrates with iPhoto on Mac

Visual Watermark for Mac accepts photos from iPhoto. Select and drag the images you want to protect into the Visual Watermark window. The program will put a watermark on them.

Effects for watermarks

Visual Watermark comes with 66 effects. All of them take into account the established transparency, rotation and filling of the stamp. You can apply the effect to text and logos.

Shadow and background

Use shadow and background to avoid brand illegibility in low contrast images. A translucent background and shadow will create the necessary contrast around the stamp.

Fill mode

This function repeats the watermark on the photo until the latter is completely filled. Enable this feature on the personalization screen. There you can also change the space between individual stamps.

Vertical and rotated watermarks

Rotate your watermark. Sometimes a rotated stamp is less noticeable and distracts from the photo than a straight one. A watermark rotated at an angle of less than 90 degrees looks better when filling in a photo.

System requirements

Visual Watermark works on all computers running Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10. MacBooks and iMacs running Mac OS X Lion (10.7) or later are also supported. Visual Watermark supports high-definition (Retina) screens on Windows and Mac. One license allows you to install Visual Watermark on Windows and Mac.

From time to time, people who work with images (who themselves draw, photograph, or post copyrighted pictures on their websites) are faced with the problem of applying watermarks to pictures so that they are not spread all over the Internet without indicating the original source. If you need to tag several images, you can get by with an on-duty graphics editor. In the case of batch watermarking for several files, you can use the on-duty, advanced graphics viewer; they usually have the ability to do this. Although both options have their drawbacks, the first is very labor-intensive, try doing it on 5 pictures in a row as an experiment, and the second does not allow you to make fine adjustments. An excellent option would be to use a specialized program that can only apply watermarks, allowing you to make numerous settings.

The program installation process is standard, no unnecessary questions or additions that should improve our lives. After confirming the license agreement, selecting the folder where the application will be installed and where to place the icons to launch Watermark Image. Yes, do not forget to make sure that you have the .NET framework 2.0 runtime installed, although now for most programs this is a mandatory requirement and is installed automatically, but who knows, your computer may be one of the rare exceptions.

We freeze in anticipation of the first launch of Watermark Image and finally we see the main program window, however, in English, although on the developers’ website we were assured that the interface had been translated into Russian. After a short search in the main menu we find the “Select language” item, where there is the desired “Russian-language” item, although such a strange name for the localization leads to bad thoughts, but we click on the treasured point. What was called translation here can be considered a bad joke; 95 percent of the phrases were not translated; the result was a mess of Russian and English words practically unusable. To save your nerves, it is better to use English.

The program works on the principle of a master who carefully guides you through each point, there are four in total. We move between them by clicking the “Next” button in the lower right corner, although, as an option, each item can be reached immediately by clicking on the corresponding tab, the list of which is located at the top.

At the first step, we select the files on which we will apply watermarks or indicate the folders to be scanned from where they will be added en masse. Separately, you need to indicate the “Select preview image” image, on which you will see the works of your creative experiments in creating a watermark.

The second step is the most interesting; in fact, this is why the program for applying the one and only watermark was created. You can use a picture, text or a simple frame as a basis for creativity. Then we boldly press all the buttons and change the numbers, figuring out what’s what, trying to make our dream come true.

Finally, you can apply the created watermark to the selected files; before that, you can choose in which file format the finished result will be saved, and whether you need to change the resolution or aspect ratio. Be sure to specify the folder where the finished files will be written, otherwise you will receive strange errors and not understand what to do. I almost forgot, press “Start” and enjoy the work done.

The only tab that stands apart from the rest is the program’s operation log, where you can see which files were processed. To be honest, it’s not clear why it’s needed; it’s of no use to ordinary users, probably because it was easy to do.

There are no settings, everything is done as you go, although there is little that can be done, you definitely need to save “File->Save Setup”, otherwise after restarting the program you will have to customize it again. By the way, everything from the list of files to the watermark design is saved.

Watermark Image turned out to be a very controversial program. By and large, it copes with its functions of adding watermarks to images, there are a large number of settings that allow you to sharpen everything exactly as you intended, it processes files in batch mode. But as always there are nuances, here this is a hastily made interface that is inconvenient to use due to for the abundance of various buttons, checkboxes and items, although they divided everything into separate tabs in accordance with their purpose. In general, it’s worth a try, and then decide for yourself whether to contact Watermark Image.

The disadvantages include some incompleteness, it seems like everything is there, but you feel like you’re missing something, not everything is done intuitively. I also want to support a larger number of graphic file formats, it works with the most common ones, and if you move to the side you get into a dead end, they need to be converted first.

Watermark Image also has one feature: for home use the program can be used as much as you like, but for commercial purposes they want money, but to be honest, in this form the program is now offered, you can’t even raise your hand to count out the required amount.

Works great on 32 and 64 bit operating systems. Translated into several dozen languages, including Russian, although I recommend staying in English, it’s a mishmash of Russian-English words that’s hard to understand.

When distributing your intellectual property on the Internet, for example, photographs or illustrations, watermarks or, in other words, copyright are applied to them - this technique is a modern and widespread method of protecting copyrights on the Internet. On the other hand, installing copyright can be used to advertise a website, promote your own brand or organization. Installing watermarks is most relevant for those people who post their own photos on their blogs, pages on social networks and other sites.

An inscription or a translucent drawing that is superimposed on the main image can be used as a watermark on the photo. Programs for installing watermarks on images differ from each other in their capabilities: overlaying only text, only images, or both options on the main photo. Also, some programs are created specifically for installing copyright, while others have this function as an additional feature.

After reading this article, you will learn how to prevent the theft of your intellectual property, namely, how to put a watermark on a photo. There are many ways to apply copyright, but we will only touch on one - attribution using programs for Windows operating systems.

The process of protecting photos is as simple as possible, and at every step tips and hints are shown about the required actions from the user at a particular stage.

This concludes our acquaintance with utilities of this type. Remember that if you need to publish photos on the Internet, it would be a good idea to put a watermark on the photo and thereby ensure copy protection.

Advice for the future: when protecting your photographs and other images, take care of the correct copyright. The watermark should not stand out too much and attract attention, distracting the user from the content of the image itself.

Watermark software

Many of our readers are interested in how to watermark a photo. This is due to the fact that at the moment there are many people on the Internet who want to use other people’s photographs (alas, we are not blameless in this regard). In order to protect photos from plagiarism, you can use programs for creating watermarks. There are many programs for watermarks, but we will talk in detail about the free one.

So, we recommend to your attention the FastStone Image Viewer program for applying watermarks to images, which can be downloaded for free from this link.
Actually, in addition to watermarks, FastStone Image Viewer has other useful features. Here's what it says in its description:

"Program FastStone Image is a fast, stable, user-friendly image viewing, converting and editing program. The program is loaded with features that include image viewing, management, comparison, red-eye removal, mailing, resizing, cropping, and color correction. Innovative and intuitive Full Screen mode provides quick access to EXIF information, thumbnail views, and core program functions through hidden toolbars that reveal when the mouse cursor touches the four edges of the screen. Other features include high-quality zoom and music slideshows with over 150 transition effects, as well as lossless JPEG conversion, drop shadow effects, image annotations, scanner support, histograms and more. The program supports all major graphic formats (BMP, JPEG, JPEG 2000, animated GIF, PNG, PCX, PSD, EPS, TIFF, WMF, ICO and TGA) and popular digital camera RAW formats (CRW, CR2, NEF, PEF, RAF, MRW, ORF, SRF, SR2, ARW, RW2 and DNG)".

So, now for a specific example. Let's assume that you decide to create a site dedicated to culinary recipes (as they say, there are two most popular topics for creating sites dedicated to cooking and treatment. That is, they always love to eat well, and then they are treated for the fact that they ate well). You already have a large number of photographs ready and you need to prepare them for publication on your website.

How to prepare photos for publication on the Internet?

  1. Reduce the photo size, for example to 640 x 480;
  2. Reduce photo resolution;
  3. Apply a watermark to the photo.

The first two points are carried out in order to reduce the “weight” of photographs. For example, if we take a photo using a camera with default settings, we will get a picture with a size of 3648x2736 pixels and a volume of about 4 MB. At the time of writing this article, the most popular resolution of user monitor screens is 1280x1024; at this resolution, only a seventh of the resulting image will fit on the monitor screen.

Thanks to the capabilities of FastStone Image Viewer, photo processing requires a minimum of effort. The fact is that the program allows you to perform so-called batch image processing, i.e. there is no need to process each photo separately. All existing photos can be prepared for publication on the Internet using the same settings.

Step 1. We place all the photos that need to be processed in one folder. For example, I'll place three cooking photos in a folder on my desktop called "entrance." For processed photos, immediately create an “output” folder.

Step 2. Let's launch the program.

Step 3. On the menu File select a team Open and indicate our “input” folder. After which the contents of the folder will be displayed in the working field of the program.

Displaying the contents of a folder in the program's working field

Step 4. On the menu Service select a team Batch conversion/renaming. In the window that appears, press the D button add all(or select only those files that need to be processed) select the “output” folder as the output folder.

Selecting Output Folder

Step 5. We leave the output format as JPEG. In the same line, click the “Settings” button, in the window that appears, indicate the required quality of the processed images.

Adjusting Image Quality

As you can see in the picture, I set the image quality to 51% And unchecked Apply JPEG quality of source file(by default it is).

Step 6. Press the button Additionally and on the tab Resize indicate the required dimensions of the processed images. The default size is 560x420 pixels. In principle, it is quite suitable for photographs posted on the site, so I will not change it.

Setting the image size

Step 7 Then you can go in two ways: add regular text as a watermark, indicating its transparency, or using an image prepared in advance. In this example, I will add a test as a watermark using the “Text” tab.

Setting text options

As you can see from the picture, I decided to add text with the domain name of a website dedicated to cooking MyRecipes.rf. Font color white, transparency 70%.

Step 8. Save the settings by clicking OK. After this, press the button Start. After which the image conversion process will begin, the end of which you should wait for.

Well, that's all. Now you can look into the “output” folder and see the result of the program. As an example, I show an image of a salad with green peas.

Result of the program

The volume of the resulting file was 25 kb with an image size of 560x420 pixels. As for the image quality, it is quite acceptable for posting on the Internet.
