There can be a lot of options, but the correct choice of font largely determines whether the project will be successful or fail. Sometimes it is enough to overlook even minor details to negate all the creative efforts that went into creating an outstanding design. Luckily, there are plenty of resources to help you with typography.

Many designers, especially beginners, tend to strive for everything new. They closely follow all trends in typography and use the newest and, as it seems to them, “unhackneyed” fonts in their design. This is mistake. Typography is a conservative discipline, and new here does not always mean better. To see this, just look at which fonts were the most popular in 2016.

The FF DIN font was created by Dutch designer Albert-Jean Poole. The first version was presented in 1995, then development continued and by the time the work was completed in 209, the FF DIN family included 20 styles. The font is great for editorial and publishing, and can also be used in advertising and packaging design, branding and other creative fields such as poster and billboard design. FF DIN also looks good on a computer screen, so it can be used in web design. FF DIN has limited support for the Cyrillic alphabet, which is important for Russian designers.

The Proxima Nova family is a reconstruction of the famous Proxima Sans font. The Proxima Nova set has been expanded to 48 fully functional Open Type fonts. Univers is one of the favorite fonts of designer Adrian Frutiger, who put a lot of effort into its creation. The Univers font has gained great popularity primarily due to its legibility. Work on the font took place over several decades, but the designers managed to maintain unity, thanks to which different versions of Univers can be used in one project. In 1997, Linotype management, together with Frutiger, decided to redraw all existing styles. Close attention was paid to the proportions of the letters, the harmonious combination of symbols and small details. After this, work on the project was completed. The Univers font is the embodiment of calm elegance and rationalism. Univers was used in George W. Bush's election campaigns in 2000 and 2004, and can also be seen in the logos of Audi, eBay and Montreal Metro. Unfortunately, this wonderful font does not support the Cyrillic alphabet.
