Compare cell phones. Some of the most amazing and innovative mobile devices

Russian buyers of equipment still believe in the immutability of the following primitive proportion: the higher the price of a product, the higher its quality. Although in the mobile market this law has long been in effect “to the extent” - the cost of a product here depends on the brand, technical characteristics, how much the manufacturer had to spend on advertising, and on many other variables. The quality of the gadget as a pricing factor is far from at the top of the list.

The current market situation is the most favorable for buying an inexpensive but high-quality smartphone. Check out our rating of smartphones - and you will find out which of the devices of 2017 will justify every ruble invested in them.

10. Meizu M2 Note

  • CPU: 8-core MediaTek MT6753, clock frequency 1300 MHz
  • 2 GB / 16 GB
  • Display:
  • 13 Mpix / 5 Mpix
  • Battery: 3 100 mAh

Price: from 9,649 rubles

7. Ulefone Power 2

  • CPU: 8-core MediaTek MT6750 clock frequency 1.5 GHz
  • Memory (RAM/user): 4 GB / 64 GB
  • Display: diagonal 5 inches, FullHD resolution
  • Cameras (main / front): 13 Mpix / 8 Mpix
  • Battery: 6,050 mAh

Price: from 11,298 rubles Ulefone Power 2 went on sale only in the spring of 2017, but has already earned the love of Russian users; According to Yandex.Market, this smartphone has 88% of ratings - “five”. In the reviews, current owners of Power 2 urge potential buyers not to worry about the fact that the brand is little known, and to boldly prefer Ulefone to the well-promoted Samsung and Sony.

The main advantage of Ulefone Power 2 is its impressive battery capacity. Just think about these numbers: a smartphone allows you to talk continuously for 2 days, and in standby mode it will last as long as 2 months!

Advantages

Flaws

  • Massive – the gadget weighs more than 200 grams.

6. Nubia Z11 Mini S

  • CPU: 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953, clock frequency 2 GHz
  • Memory (RAM/user): 4 GB / 64 GB
  • Display:
  • Cameras (main / front): 23 Mpix / 13 Mpix
  • Battery: 3,000 mAh

Price: from 17,000 rubles Nubia Z11 Mini S is too good for the middle price segment - but due to some misunderstanding it belongs to it. The main advantage of the gadget is the camera; The Nubia user will definitely not have to remember where his “soap box” is. At the back there is a Sony IMX318 sensor with hybrid autofocus and three-axis stabilization - the peephole, by the way, is protected by sapphire glass. The selfie camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels and includes 5 lenses.

3. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X

  • CPU:
  • Memory (RAM/user): 3 GB / 32 GB
  • Display: diagonal 5 inches, FullHD resolution
  • Cameras (main / front): 13 Mpix / 5 Mpix
  • Battery: 4,100 mAh

Price: from 8,790 rubles

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X is a big step forward compared to the previous model in the line, Redmi Note 4. The 2017 gadget has become more productive, received a capacious battery, a new IMX258 camera module - and turned out to be a smartphone with almost no weak points, especially for its very modest price. Note 4X is perfectly assembled, looks great and, judging by user reviews on Yandex.Market, works flawlessly - if the “Chinese Apple” continues to delight us with such devices, it will very soon displace the real Apple on the pedestal.

Advantages

  • Thin body (8 mm), made of metal.
  • Bright and contrast 2.5D screen.
  • Long battery life (up to 2 days).
  • The presence of a fingerprint sensor.

Flaws

2. Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017)

  • CPU: 8-core Exynos 7 Octa 7870, clock frequency 1.6 GHz.
  • Memory (RAM/user): 2 GB / 16 GB
  • Display: diagonal 2 inches, HD resolution
  • Cameras (main / front): 13 Mpix / 13 Mpix
  • Battery: 3,000 mAh

Price: from 13,570 rubles Samsung cannot be called a “cheap” manufacturer - even within the budget lines of the Korean company, smartphones cost from 10 thousand rubles. However, in 2017, Samsung pleasantly surprised by showing the updated J5, which justifies its price by 100%.

In just one year, the J5 has gone from an ugly plastic duckling to a beautiful aluminum swan. The 2017 model boasts a premium metal design and a SuperAMOLED screen made using 2.5D technology. In addition, the device received a fingerprint sensor, thanks to which the user can make payments for purchases using Samsung Pay, and a selfie camera of killer quality.

Advantages

  • High-resolution front camera with a lot of tools for processing selfies.
  • Powerful proprietary processor.
  • Samsung Pay support.
  • Adaptive display that can automatically adjust to external conditions.

Flaws

  • The battery is less capacious than the 2016 model.
  • Low screen resolution.

1. ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE520KL

  • CPU: 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953, clock frequency 2 GHz.
  • Memory (RAM/user): 3 GB / 32 GB
  • Display: diagonal 2 inches, FullHD resolution
  • Cameras (main / front): 16 Mpix / 8 Mpix
  • Battery: 2,650 mAh

Price: from 14,200 rubles When ASUS calls the Zenfone 3 ZE520KL “a masterpiece of modern engineering” on its official website, it is not exaggerating - it’s difficult to find a smartphone that looks as beautiful and original. The back panel of the device is decorated with a pattern of concentric circles - a mandatory element of the famous ASUS branded Zen design, which was awarded a separate award at Computex 2016. The Zenfone 3 ZE520KL case, made of durable Gorilla Glass, has a minimum thickness of only 7.69 mm.

However, the ASUS device gets the title of the best smartphone in terms of price/quality not only for how it looks - it is also a jack of all trades. Photographers will be pleased with the 16-megapixel camera with triple autofocus, which supports both optical and electronic stabilization. Gaming enthusiasts will be delighted when they test the 64-bit processor from Qualcomm, made using 14 nm technology. Music lovers will be impressed by the sound processed by SonicMaster audio technology.

HTC is not represented in our rating either - and this is easy to explain. Devices from well-known companies are overpriced. No one questions their quality, but you can find cheaper smartphones with similar characteristics, assembled just as meticulously - just look at the products of mid-range Chinese manufacturers, like Doogee or Blackview.

Unfortunately, overpaying for a brand is the norm in the current mobile market. However, there is hope that the “Chinese invasion” will change the situation and buyers will understand: giving money for big names is stupid.

Choosing the best phone of 2017 is very difficult, because there are a large number of characteristics, and each manufacturer tries to focus on the strengths of their model.

But it is best to choose based on all the characteristics combined.

Let's say right away that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was recognized as the best model to date. Why? Let's find out further.

Parameter No. 1. Phone performance

At the same time, the most objective characteristic of power is the rating in the AnTuTu Benchmark program.

At the beginning of March 2017, a study was conducted in which a rating of the most powerful processors was compiled. First place there was taken by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.

In AnTuTu Benchmark, any phone model with such a processor will score at least 130,000 marks. That's why you need to look at phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.

So, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor has 141,000 marks in AnTuTu Benchmark.

It is competing with the LG G5, which scores 143,000 marks. Both phones have 4 GB of RAM, and a 2.2 GHz processor with 8 cores.

Yes, there is also Xiaomi Mi5 Plus with 142,000 marks in AnTuTu Benchmark, but later we will see that due to other characteristics, Samsung is still better.

In addition, so far there are simply no programs or games for which 131,000 marks would not be enough.

Moreover, today's heaviest games, such as Nova 3, run smoothly on phones with 41,000 marks.

So the truth is that there is absolutely no point in having that kind of CPU power yet.

But it’s still worth buying a powerful device so that in the future it will be ready for the heaviest loads.

Parameter No. 2. Battery

To service such a powerful processor you need a good battery. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a capacity of 3600 mAh, which is good news.

Its standby time is 119 hours.

In music player mode it will work for 76 hours. Its only drawback is that the battery is not removable.

The aforementioned LG G5 has only 2800 mAh, which provides 96 hours of standby time and 61 hours of player mode.

Xiaomi Mi5 Plus 3500 mAh – 116 hours in standby mode.

Again, there are models with larger batteries, but all other characteristics, including processor power and RAM, are much smaller.

In general, in the processor to battery ratio, Samsung clearly wins.

Parameter No. 3. Screen

Here the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge looks like a clear leader. Its resolution is 1440x2560 pixels, like the LG G5 and Xiaomi Mi5 Plus.

However, almost all modern powerful devices have this resolution.

But Samsung has a proprietary Super AMOLED screen, while the other two have IPS. This means that its saturation, brightness and, ultimately, viewing angles are many times better.

Let's not deviate from comparing the same three phones. This is how the user will look at the side of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

This is how he will look at the LG G5.

Xiaomi Mi5 Plus looks like an absolute outsider in this comparison.

In general, even if a model with a Super AMOLED screen had a lower resolution, the picture would still be much clearer and more saturated than phones with IPS screens and higher resolution.

In addition, Samsung has its own proprietary technology that makes even Super AMOLED screens better. We can safely say that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge wins by this criterion, and it is twice as good as its closest competitors.

Parameter No. 4. Camera

Clue: The most objective criterion for evaluating a camera is the size of the aperture - the smaller the designation "f/...", the larger the aperture and, accordingly, the better.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has an aperture size of 1.7, the LG G5 has 1.8, and the Xiaomi Mi5 Plus generally loses in this comparison with an aperture size of 2.0.

Yes, LG has more megapixels - 16 megapixels while Samsung has only 12 megapixels.

Xiaomi has as many as 13 of them. But the front camera of the representative of the progressive Chinese brand is only 4 megapixels, the eternal classic LG has 8 megapixels, and Samsung has everything as standard - 5 megapixels.

But all Xiaomi phones take pictures very poorly in low light - you can’t make out almost anything.

Therefore, in terms of camera, the Mi5 Plus is not even a rival to the other two models.

In the photo below you can see that the photo taken on Samsung looks brighter and better than the photo from LG.

Sony phones are also famous for their good cameras. But recently, experts from the world-famous DxOMark resource recognized the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge camera as the best on the market.

Below you can see another confirmation of this fact - the detailing of this phone is at the highest level.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has the best camera in the world today, so this phone is clearly leading the race for the title of “best phone brand”.

Xiaomi has managed to quickly win a large customer base by offering high-quality smartphones to the market at an affordable price. But initially, Xiaomi’s lineup was not as diverse as that of its main competitors, and it was obvious that in the foreseeable future the Chinese manufacturer would be developing new phone models.

Today, the Xiaomi lineup has become very diverse, but at the same time, you can easily understand the features of a particular branch of smartphones, unlike, say, competitors such as Meizu or Samsung.

To make it more convenient for you to choose the right Xiaomi phone for yourself, we suggest comparing all the models released by the company at the moment, finding similarities and differences in them, and thus determining the competitive advantages of each.

If we want to compare Xiaomi based on all known models of the company’s gadgets, then we can distinguish three main lines:

  1. Mi. Phones in this line have flagship hardware and are suitable for the most demanding customers. There is a large power reserve and expanded system capabilities. Qualcomm series processors provide high levels of performance. Excellent build quality and the use of metal cases guarantee the durability of the gadgets. Here are the best Xiaomi cameras, characterized by optical stabilization, the ability to shoot in manual mode, and, of course, a large number of megapixels. The most frequent firmware updates are organized specifically for models of the Mi line.
  2. Redmi. Here are the best budget smartphone options. Since 2013, they have been equipped with MediaTek processors, and now some models receive Snapdragon, which, however, does not increase their cost. All Xiaomi Redmi phones will be an excellent choice for those who want to get a reliable gadget without making excessive demands on it. The device will not be able to handle games with extreme graphics, but in business and everyday life Xiaomi Redmi will become simply irreplaceable. The use of simpler components compared to the Mi line allows you to significantly reduce the price of Xiaomi Redmi gadgets and make them closer to the mass consumer. The design is also a little simpler than that of its flagship brother, but the body is also metal. Every year, the technical characteristics of devices in this line are improving, and therefore it is no wonder that Xiaomi Redmi is currently considered the most popular on the market.
  3. MiPad. Comparing Xiaomi fully means remembering also the line of tablets from this company. At the moment, 3 tablets have been released in the line, and the real breakthrough was created by the appearance of the MiPad2 model - it was seriously compared to the iPad! The technical indicators are indeed competitive, and we’ll talk about the advantages of each model further.

For convenience, each of the lines can be divided into several more categories, which is what we propose to do now in order to fully compare Xiaomi across all models on the market.

Features of the Mi line

In general, we recommend considering the Mi line in three main branches. We compare them in a table to make it easier to understand.

Branch name List of models Peculiarities
Xiaomi Mi
  • Mi 1S
  • Mi 2S
  • Mi 4C
  • Mi 4I
  • Mi 4S
  • Mi 5S
  • Mi 5S Plus
  • Mi Mix
  • Mi 8 Light
  • Mi 8 Pro
  • Mi Mix 2
  • Mi Mix 2S
  • Mi A2
  • Mi A2 Lite
  • Mi A1
There is only the best hardware and a 5-inch diagonal screen with slight upward deviations in some models.

Models from Xiaomi Mi 1 to Xiaomi Mi 3 are no longer relevant, although it was with them that this Chinese company began conquering the market. For the summer of 2011, when the first model in this line appeared, an 8 MP camera, a dual-core processor and 1.5 GB RAM were impressive indicators.

Today, models starting from “four” and higher are relevant. Mi 4 with a 5-inch diagonal, a 13 MP camera and 3 GB of RAM was a discovery in 2014, and its technical characteristics are still relevant today. The developers realized that the model was becoming more and more popular, and therefore released three more “fours” with minimal differences, but only the Mi 4 version was successful.

In 2016, the Mi 5 model was finally released, qualitatively superior to all the “fours”. It had a 16 MP camera, a powerful Snapdragon 820 processor and a convenient and attractive design. Later, the S version of the “five” was released with even greater battery capacity and processor clock speed.

The newest Mi model at the moment is the “six”. Everything is even cooler here: 6 gigabytes of RAM, two excellent cameras (even the front one is 8 megapixels) and the Snapdragon 835 processor is the best among all from Xiaomi. The original Mi Max model was also released in 2016, the highlight of which was a huge 6.44-inch screen with competitive hardware specifications.

Mi Note
  • Mi Note
  • Mi Note 2
  • Mi Note 3
  • Mi Note Pro
The difference between the Note models is the large screen diagonal. Xiaomi Mi Note is, in fact, the twin of Xiaomi Mi 4, but with a 5.7-inch screen. Mi Note 2 is not much different from its predecessor, but has a slightly larger diagonal and various additional bells and whistles like a fingerprint scanner.
Mi Max
  • Mi Max
  • Mi Max 2
  • Mi Max 3
The similarity with Mi Mix is noticeable to the naked eye - the screen diagonal of 6.44 inches allows us to call this branch a classic “shovel”. The performance under the hood is far from flagship, so you should only choose this option if you really like a larger monitor size.

Features of the Xiaomi Redmi line

We also propose to conduct a comparative analysis of the “state employee” based on the table:

Branch name List of models Peculiarities
Xiaomi Redmi
  • Redmi 1S
  • Redmi 2
  • Redmi 3
  • Redmi 3 Pro
  • Redmi 3s
  • Redmi 4 Prime
  • Redmi 4a
  • Redmi 4X
  • Redmi Pro
  • Redmi 5
  • Redmi 5A
  • Redmi 6
  • Redmi 6A
  • Redmi 6 Pro
  • Redmi S2
These smartphones are the most compact among all with a screen diagonal of up to 5 inches. Initially, a polycarbonate body was used, but starting from the “troika” a metal body is installed and a fingerprint scanner is present. All Xiaomi smartphones from the Redmi series that came out later have improved in quality, and, looking at their characteristics, you can’t even say that these are “state products.”
Xiaomi Redmi Note
  • Redmi Note
  • Redmi Note 2
  • Redmi Note 3
  • Redmi Note 3 Pro
  • Redmi Note 4
  • Redmi Note 4X
  • Redmi Note 5
  • Redmi Note 6
  • Redmi Note 6 Pro
As with Mi, the addition of Note to the name indicates a larger screen. Starting with Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi phones come in a premium style, have an aluminum body and have a fingerprint scanner.

Features of the MiPad line

It’s easier to make comparisons between tablets - there are only three models here. The Xiaomi Mi Pad was a trial version to see if the tablet would be as popular as smartphones. It turned out that everything was in perfect order, and therefore the Chinese launched Xiaomi Mi Pad 2, starting with which they firmly established themselves in this niche in the market.

The differences between the first and second models are noticeable to the naked eye. The body of the “two” is made of metal, not polycarbonate, the RAM is already 2 GB, and you can choose between Android and Windows 10 as an operating system.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 has gone even further - here you can already choose between two main configurations that differ in the amount of built-in and operating memory: 3 GB of RAM with 64 GB of built-in or 4 GB of RAM with 128 GB of built-in. The chipset has also been improved in comparison with the more budget “two” - instead of the Intel Atom X5-Z8500, the Intel Atom X7-Z8700 appeared.

Xiaomi Redmi S phones

In 2018, Xiaomi expanded the Redmi line by adding a device called Redmi S2 to the Xiaomi Redmi S2 (the company did not release the S1 phone). Who is this phone for? To get the answer to this question, it is best to compare this gadget with some other device in the Redmi series. And it will be more convenient to compare it with Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. After all, both of these phones are equipped with a 5.99-inch display, a Snapdragon 625 processor, and have almost the same price. How are these smartphones different? Redmi 5 Plus has a higher quality screen, the resolution of which is Full HD+ (not HD+), and which produces a clearer picture. Another significant advantage of this device is that its battery capacity is 4,000 (and not 3,080 mAh), and it can work in autonomous mode from 1.5 to 2 days (Redmi S2 can only last a day) .

What then are the features of the S series phone? The first feature is that the gadget has a two-module camera. In practice, however, images from both devices have the same quality, comparable to each other. Unless Redmi S2 can take photos with background blur. The real differences between the phones are that the S2 has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, and selfies from this device are sharper. This phone is also equipped with a digital stabilization function when shooting video, and also has a three-section tray for 2 SIM cards and one memory card. A budget smartphone for selfies with the ability to install dual SIM cards and a flash drive costs from 15,990 rubles in Russian retail.

Pocophone smartphones

In 2018, a significant event occurred at Xiaomi. For the first time in its history, the manufacturer released a smartphone not under the already well-known brand “Xiaomi”, but under the new sub-brand “Pocophone”. The new device is Pocophone F1. Pocophone F1The main feature of the gadget is the presence of the latest high-performance Snapdragon 845 chip (the same as on the super-flagship Xiapmi Mi8). Moreover, the device became the cheapest smartphone on the market equipped with this board. If you compare the Pocophone F1 with the flagship Xiaomi model, you will immediately notice that for less money you will get a device with exactly the same performance, the same (in diagonal size) display, the ability to expand the memory by installing a flash drive, and a headphone jack 3.5 mm, stereo speakers and a more capacious battery (4,000 mAh versus 3,080).

Xiaomi Mi8 will have more premium body materials (Pocophone F1 is simply plastic), a higher quality screen matrix (Super AMOLED) and a more advanced camera. The Mi8 camera has optical stabilization, a lower focal number that allows you to take better pictures in the dark, and a higher resolution of the auxiliary (second) module of the main camera.

The cost of Pocophone F1 version 6/64 GB during the premiere sales on TMAll is 20,900 rubles. The Xiaomi Mi8 model, which has similar characteristics, costs 29,600 rubles.

What to give preference to?

Before choosing one or another Xiaomi smartphone model, decide why you need the phone. If you plan to use it at home or for business, then you can safely choose one of the “state employees,” saving money and getting a very high-quality product for your investment. If you want to follow the latest fashion trends, trying out every game that has just been released, then it is better to immediately consider one of the flagship Mi smartphones.

In addition to price, one of the parameters for assessing whether Xiaomi meets your expectations will be the screen size. There is plenty to choose from - from small and stylish business models to “shovels” with a huge monitor. If it’s “shovels” that attract you, then finding them is very easy - find a name that contains Note, Mix or Max, and after that all that remains is to decide on the preferred technical characteristics of the device.
